Best combination of 64 bit ROMs and Kernels - Moto G5 Plus Questions & Answers

I would like to know the best combination of ROMs and Kernels for performance and battery life
Preferably has round icons

I use Validus + Alize. This setup runs smoothly. Battery life is also excellent. This is the first and only x64 ROM I flashed so I don't have comparison with others.

Any random reboots?

Icons are not rom dependent - you can change just using diff browser or something.
That being said - anything + alize should be good to go!

I've had some problems xenon and alize randomly factory resetting. Round icons are something that are determined by the framework Res Example (Stock pixel, Pixel experience and custom lineage 14.1 based ROM for my Nexus 10)

I had this problem using the Magisk v14.5 beta and installing v14.0 fixed it.

Issue with Magisk, the kernel doesn't make any rom random reboot or factory resetting.

Im currently on validus and it soft reboots every 5 to 10 mins. I had the same issue with xenon HD

Install stable Magisk v14 instead of 14.5 beta.

What's the most stable custom rom today? [November]

Sorry if this is not the place, and sorry for my eng too, but I have this doubt, I've seen differents cyanogens from China and the resurrection remix, I always had cyanogen on my Moto's I dont known the RR and I dont even know what is more stable today (I have a very bad internet and my 3s come this week, cant test any rom yet, but I want to download something stable to test when 3s arrived)
On another words... What rom are U using? And why?
PD: Sign please, https://www.change.org/p/publish-the-kernel-source-for-the-xiaomi-redmi-3s-prime-3x
With this we will have true roms based on the real code of the dispositive.
Thanks!
(Sorry my eng, again!)
I currently use Resurrection Remix 5.7.4 as of now.Its stable enough to be used as daily driver, only flaw is the vedio recording but it works fine when used via footej camera.Rest everything is great.RR is actually based on Cynogenmod only ,plus some more customisations and features like split screen multitasking etc.I also used CM13 for about a fortnight, its also pretty stable.YOu can use either of it!

Any noticeable lags, battery drain?
nope..i didnt notice any in the latest builds...the previous build of cm13 did drain battery a lil bit.and previous 5.7 RR lagged a little..but again the latest one is really good.it even has october security patch
I am currently on RR 5.7.0 as my daily driver for past week or two...it's quite stable...didn't bumped into any bug...waiting for kernel release so more custom ROMs can be made.
Please make sure you signed the petition on change.org, which request the xiaomi to release the kernel sources of R3S (If you want to see more custom ROMs).
Thank u very much for ur answers! I'll try the RR 5.7.4, when my 3s arrive, and yes, I've signed the petition when we were 240 aprox!! I'll put the link on top
PD: If someone want to share his experience with one of these roms or anothers are most welcome!

Yes they do...both CM and RR have a feature called "protected apps"...it locks any app ,and you can unlock them with fingerprint. Also if you use xposed, you can try "maxlock" which is a great module and provides applock functionality with fingerprint support(i myself have tried this module).

Hi, just want to know does audio recording is resolved? Because the last time I'm using unofficial CM13, it have this problem and will crash when trying to use audio input like google now (except native call).
And also, does doze work good too?

Yup doze works perfectly
At the moment I can only recommend this https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/6-11-3.35941/ which is actually a customized, well debloated and fine tuned MIUI builds. Until devs can get their hands-on quality sources officially from upstream (from Xiaomi and that's not happening yet), there is no other substitute.

Miui has bugs and problems. Currently, I'd recommend custom ROMs to only those who have problems using Miui (like me). And ported ROMs are not that bad - only VoLTE support issue, video recording problem and a little less battery backup. Everything else is fine and smoother.

For me significant reasons to replace a rom would be stability, battery life and I don't like miui look. But if I don't gain anything in battery life I just freeze most xiaomi crap including mi account and battery life management, install my normal greenify-titanium and other apps and stay at miui either developer or stable from miui-hellas. Only thing I really miss is the ability to run custom app from keys. If cyanogen could improve their battery life I think I would easily switch...

Stable Nougat Roms?

Hello everyone.
I want a little help from you guys in selecting a best ROM from amongst many.
I've tried almost all ROMs available, but not able to decide which ROM to use as my daily driver.
I flash my device daily just to get a stable ROM, which satisfy all my need.
My requirements in a ROM are as follows-:
Double Tap To Wake
Battery efficient
Stable in terms of Force Closes
4G and VoLTE working
Customizations
Please guys help me in selecting a good ROM.
Try Validus

AOSP EX. has some issues with double tap, it's not responsive. I've used it for around 2 weeks.
AND RR rom (VoLTE Version), I've tried it. It has a big issue with calling.
In the I-M-MORTAL Version, Whenever we call someone over VoLTE, then the calling screen gets stucked while hanging up, and nothing could be done by hard reboot also.
In its Feb built also, it has an issue with dialer app. That whenever we call someone, dialer app crashes, and nothing could be done to stop this FC.
This issue was reported by many users.
Then only cm14 last nightly i can suggest you ! That's my love !

You have only one choice.
Resurrection Remix (14 feb, 2017 build )
Latest build is 28 feb, but it lacks volte
Bugs-
DTW not supported (try any custom kernel)
HW codec video lacks smoothens, (use SW in MX player)
CPU at 1.2 GHz(Use custom kernel to OC)
Pros-
Excellent battery life (use greenify, and slow down your CPU to 400 Mhz if you need more)
Customisation 10/10
Volte support
Smooth fluid interface, no lags

It is pretty stable and as compared to others I think it is one of the most stable rom. Unless you don't flash a custom kernel or something.
Confused between AOSP EX. and GZR (Validus & Tesla) now.
Tried both.
But I've read many reviews about GZR Roms, many users says it gives random reboot, but here in this thread, mostly all saying that GZR is best (no reboot or any issue).
Actually, I want to use it for daily use. So want to stay away from random reboot issues.
And, about AOSP EX. I've not got such reviews (like random reboot).
I reason I want to move on from AOSP ex. is customizations and it's double tap unresponsiveness.

On a side note, with mokee's default kernel, antutu scored 26600, and with the latest HexaTurbo it scored 29500 Hexa was very stable on cm13 I bet it will be great on mokee
For daily use stable is better. Mokee 6 is awesome.

No, I'm not use it anymore, I used it about 6 months before change my ROM to PureNexus 7.1
Battery life about 5 hours normal, 1 day with Airplane Mode. No FC or something like that. No overheat. Though I recommended you to use custom kernel and audio mod (since audio will get better)
The RR 5.7.4 are better than Mokee 6 history version (battery backup, performance, etc..)? Another custom rom MM is good and daily usable?

Stock or Stock Beta with EdXposed and some Magisk modules.
Let's you do almost anything you can with a custom ROM.
Until recently custom ROMs didn't support the FP scanner.

I tried EdXposed and it is unstable AF and magisk modules just fix some annoyances.
If you are on Verizon, as of now 4-23-19, no custom ROM appears to support MMS. Except for Havoc, and even then, crappy picture quality has been reported.
So I'm going to go back to oos9013. Which is a major pain in the butt because I have to format my internal SD and use a USB drive to revert to the March security patch...

I was (and still probably am) a ROM flashaholic, but for the first time I've been very happy with stock OOS.
I may install a custom ROM in the future (probably Omni or Havoc) but users always seem to report some bug, whether it's big or small.
I haven't had any issues on OOS so I could very well end up sticking with it. Only downside is having to reboot to see Substratum overlays, but no where near a deal breaker.

Nope! And this is coming from a retired ROM Dev. I would keep stock and root it. If I were to make a no nonsense ROM it would be pretty identical to the stock ROM.
And this is not a dis to any ROM Dev either.

Nevermind. I went over to the Substratum forums and found my answer. Thanks!

Who uses MMS? That's so 2010 ?
No for real, is that still being used? I live in the Netherlands. Nobody uses that anymore since there are much better apps for that nowadays....
I'd rather keep the OEM developers of the phone updating my stable stock firmware well over some stranger online that does it as a hobby.
Pros and cons of custom rom on 6T
Pros:
- Slight interface change (OOS is very similar to AOSP)
- AOD
- Volume rocker music controls
- UI customization
Cons:
- Jagged rounded corners. OOS has a slight border that's smooths the corners/notch. Every custom rom does not have this and will leave you with choppy corners on the screen.
- FP reader isn't as good. It just hit custom roms and is buggy
- AOSP gestures are 100x worse than OOS
- Only a couple of stable roms. If you want a feature packed rom it will be unstable. If you want a stable rom it will only have 1 feature. There really isn't an in between rom.
I would stay on OOS. Custom roms are slowly dying as stock systems have implemented all the old great custom rom features. You're basically adding a few things to your phone while sacrificing stability honestly.

It's kinda personal preferences but I'll stay with stock OOS

Interesting.
I'm using TWRP 3.3.0, Beta 8, Magisk 19, ElementalX 3.15, Riu Core and Riu EdXposed 0.3.1.2 and my phone is very stable.
I'm also using Nova Prime as my launcher.
I get 0 force closes. No random reboots.
Currently my phone has been up for 2 days and 10 hours.
My phone only reboots only when I manually reboot.

So you recommend beta over stable builds?

I don't recommend either.
I was on stable ROM and decided to go to Beta based on what I've heard about stability.
I've found my current combination very stable. I've been up 4 days with no unexpected reboots.

Agreed with what he said. I'm perfectly content not changing ROMs.
Everything "works" on OOS.
Battery life is stout.
Volume Rocker can control music both with and without root (easier with) with simple app (Button Mapper). He's a dev on here.

Good luck having a working finger print reader on any custom ROM. I don't see the point of swapping out the ROM on this phone. I definitely see the points to root vs not root (despite initially not rooting this phone the first few months of ownership).
