Hi all,
I just transferred an mp3 file to the S8 and was wondering how I can listen to it. The default music player, Google Play Music, does not 'read' my mp3. The only way I could listen to it was through 'My Files' > 'Music' folder.
When I googled for instructions on using Google Play Music, I was told that it's only available in select territories — Indonesia is not one of them (where I am). Kinda confused here… So how are S8 users supposed to listen to their music without installing third party apps?
Perhaps I'm missing something?
Thank you for pointing me to the right direction.

Has anyone figured out a way to play externally downloaded podcasts (mp3s) using Google's "Listen" app?
(In other words, use Listen to play something that was not downloaded by the app)
I would love to know this too - if I download an mp3 of a podcast which is no longer hosted online can I somehow add it to the Listen app and listen to it through that or do I have to add it to the Music app?
I asked on the Google forums and it looks like it's impossible
The files have hidden information embedded or something so that Listen will pick it up.
Just curious, is there a certain folder I need to place my music files in to play on my player? Everytime I go to music, it grabs all the files from notifications and my ringtones folders!! Is there a easier way to play my music?
Regarding Music...
Can anyone help me out??
Personally I don't use the stock music player for that very reason. Check out an app from the marketplace callled MixZing Lite (it's free.) It has the ability to monitor a specific folder for music and also comes with a pretty slick widget.
You can created a blank file called .nomedia (notice the dot at the front) in your ringtones folder which will stop the Media service (Gallery and Music) from searching in there for files. I have not tested if this will break ringtone searching, so give it a go and just delete your new .nomedia file if all your stuff disappears from ringtones.
You also may be interested to know if you call your album covers AlbumArt.jpg then they will appear in music player when a song from that album is playing, but Gallery will not index them and take a thousand years to load cos of all the covers called different names in different folders.
I copied some music on the phone, I can see the folder and every song if I search them in ES File Explorer, and even play them with the built-in music player in ES, but I can't play any music with the default music player, it says that there's no files.
The default file browser also can't see the music, more specifically if I look for it in the "all files" I can find it and even play the music, but in the music section of the file browser it says that there's 0 file, here's a screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/CNCnQD9.png (it's not in English, but I think it's pretty straight-forward which one is the music).
How could I fix this?
Just recently I made the switch from Google Play Music to a third party player and put all my music onto the phone. Everything seemed to work fine until I realized random songs here and there aren't being detected by any music player I have, or they are detected but are shown with some crazy length (sometimes even negative) and will just sit at the 0:00 mark. I've verified the files are formatted as MP3s and all so I have no clue what the issue might be.
I have a similar issue. The default tones in the "Notifications" or "Ringtones" folders will show in Google Play Music. No other music in any other folders show up.
Basically, I can listen to all the default notifications and Ringtones in any music app, no other music in any other folders (or even the defaults for notifications and ringtones) show in any music app, and I've tried many. I can view and play them using Root Browser even though I don't have root, but I can't play them in a music app at all.
Hi all,
After copying my music files (mp3) to my OP8Pro I can't seem to get them showing in the YT Music or Google Play Music app. Once I opened them from file manager they will show....
With over 1000 songs it's no use opening them one by one to get them showing within the music app. Does anyone have a clue how to get them showing all at once?
I did the same and on Google music they show up automatically and YouTube music it's under local files I think

Click to collapse
Just get the best music player there has ever been on Android.
Poweramp, absolutely no equal. And of course it'll allow library editing amongst other features, definitely worth buying the pro version too, it's a great app..
