Best custom ROMs for LG G4? - G4 General

Hi, guys!
I saw there is already a thread about this, but it is quite outdated so I decided to start a new one. So since there would most probably NOT be an update to Nougat for our phones, I plan installing a custom rom, but since I am a newbie in this field I decided to ask for opinions. Honestly I am mostly attracted by the LineageOS 14.1/15 as successor of the CM, but there may be better options. I found some threads about LineageOS 15 been released but the link for our phones has been removed, reasons unknown. The 14.1 seems quite stable and with good reviews. But nevertheless please share your experience with any custom roms that you have, also please share whether G4 specific features like the double tap to lock/unlock the screen work with it?
If relevant I have a h815 model.
Thank you,

It is personal. You can ask that what do you use custom rom or why do you use LOS etc.
You will get more answers like this way.

Advice on Purchase

Hello,
I'm strongly considering picking up a LePro 3, but I do have some concerns. I understand that the stock software isn't very good and I'm looking towards the community to create excellent ROMs for this device, but I do have some questions:
Do we have a clean method for root/unlock/recovery?
Is there anything stopping developers from putting together ROMs that are optimized for every aspect of the phone? i.e. enough source from LeEco?
How would you say developer support is for this device? I'm a fan of official ROM builds instead of using unofficial. Has anyone announced upcoming support for this device that I can look forward to?
Aside from that, feel free to mention anything else I should be aware of before purchasing the phone!
Thanks so much!

I have no idea what you mean by clean but if you can use adb then yes we do. If you are looking for a one stop shop all in one unlocker then the answer is no. look here for current method:

I believe all source code has been released.

There is minimal development currently. One person is trying to build a Nougat 7.1 Rom. That's a pretty big feat so it will probably be a while. Look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/le-pro3/how-to/7-1-progress-t3511474
There is a developer that posted a debloated version of the x720(international version) of this rom already. It will work on our x727(US version). It is an older version though so there's that. Look here:

This is literally the smallest compilation of threads I've ever seen for a phone so starting a new thread to ask these questions is pretty silly. Since it's the holidays, I've been nice and responded to what could have easily been found in a couple of minutes.

Thanks for the reply.
The reason I compiled these questions were because I was hoping for more specific answers and some clarity. Perhaps I wasn't clear enough my initial post and for that I apologize.
I was reading what seemed to be conflicting information about the recovery software and process in which to flash it to the device. It looked as if there wasn't any goto method or specific TWRP version to go with and that this was still somewhat experimental.
It's good to know that the source has been released. I was seeking info about LeEco and people were saying that they didn't release source code for their phones as company policy.
While I've visited the ROM forum section, I was hoping someone would have insight into official ROMs instead of what currently exists there.
For the US model Le Pro 3 (X727) I would recommend using this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/le-pro3/development/x727-model-persistent-bootloader-unlock-t3500388) method to unlock the bootloader. That's what I did and had no issues. From there you can use TWRP to do a full wipe and install the ROM of your choice. Of course, I would recommend taking a backup of everything before doing this.
I'm running that CM 13 build with no issues on my X727. It's also possible to get the IR blaster working if desired.

H990DS roms and kernels

Hello all.
The h990DS is one of the very few phones that can take 2 sims and an SD card. It really has an awesome software.
But let's be honest, LG is terrible in both the updates and software departments.
Now that it has root, are there any roms or kernels that support the H990ds? the LG slow software and random lag are killing me.
Roms/kernels developers please add the h990ds support.
Thank you.

Admittedly there isn't much out there, but what there is is what you can find in the Development section of the V20 subforum. The closest thing I've seen to a H990DS kernel is in @emdroidle 's root thread. Someone posted their own fork of an updated kernel there, but I know he's currently working on bringing the 990DS kernel up to date and as stable as possible. That's probably the closest you're going to get for a custom kernel for now. As for ROMs, there's a few AOSP ones, but you lose 2nd screen functionality, at least until the guys in the 2nd Screen bounty thread have got it working (from what I've seen they're making solid progress) so for now, personally, I've opted for the latest stock ROM since I love the second screen.

I really hope rom developers start adding the h990ds to their support list.
Lg make really good hardware, but terrible software.
And we need the community to work on that for the h990ds.

Question about custom rom safety/security

Hey guys, so I’m a fairly new android user. On S7 Edge running stock nougat touchwiz firmware. I am very interested in trying a custom rom like remix resurrection to get a snappier stock android performance and have things like software navigation buttons on screen but a couple of things worry me a little.
Stock firmwares have security updates etc. How safe is it to use a custom rom, like a well known one? What’s stopping the maker of a custom rom from baking in some malware or virus that collects data/passwords and other private information? How often does this happen and does it happen at all? Is it safe to use a custom rom as a daily driver in terms of security?

That is highly unlikely to happen, most of the devs that Build roms are well known and respected, as far as security patches custom roms are almost always up to date, and the kernels are for the most part set to enforcing (more secure than permissive) , so if you don't do anything stupid and shady, you won't encounter a problem.
On a side note, you are asking in the wrong section, next time ask a question in the appropriate place.

This section is for rom development, questions go in the questions and answers section, with that many posts under your belt you should know things around here, but anyway I hope I helped.

Thanks, have a great day!

Mod Edit:
You have already raised this in Q and A. One question at a time please, in one place.
Thanks
A good rom is Lineage OS 14.1 Official for the S4. It is stable and good for daily usage.
There are pinned posts at the top of the Galaxy S4 General subforum that should be of help in actually rooting the device, though actually rooting it is not difficult. The main question I ask people lately when it comes to a ROM is whether they care about having Touchwiz features or not, as that will narrow down the available choices. From there, only by trying out the ROMs will you find one you like.
Before flashing anything, I recommend booting into download mode to confirm the model number.
Try it and find out. I don't use LineageOS so I can't tell you if it will or will not work. @audit13 no longer has his S4 if I recall so he's not going to be able to tell you, unless he used it in the past. Asking your questions on the forum is more than sufficient, though you will have to be patient when it comes to replies. PMs are dicey. I ignore tech support PMs and audit13's stance on them is unknown to me.
I no longer use an S4 but it's important to know the exact model number before flashing anything. The 9500 is very different, internally, than the 337 and 337m.

Galaxy S6 model SM-S907VL - Out of luck forever?

I have seen very few threads on this forum about this device being very challenging and difficult to root, and little to no custom ROM's available for this device. Only information I know about this device after researching is that it is a " rebranded Verizon device." I saw one post about a test rom to root the device on 5.0.2, which I may try, but that's not what I was looking for. Many people (including me,) have been looking for custom ROMs for ages just for a slightly outdated device. If there is any ROM out there that works and removes all of the bloatware that the stock rom has, let me know and I will be willing to try with this device. And yes, my device is on stock 6.0.1.
You, the viewer have a great morning/afternoon/night! Thank you.
A potential device gone to waste.....
