Has anyone managed to get Viper4Android working on this device yet? I've managed to install it two separate times, via the Magisk module then the flashable zip after removing the module. The app loaded, but it didn't do anything audiowise.

Did you check driver status? Turn it on for the method you're playing (headphone or whatever) then play some music then open viper and check driver status.
Here's a screenshot of the driver status with music playing in the background.

It looks like it's working. But if your playing music when taking that screen shot, I think processing should say "yes" not "no."

Never mind then, I managed to get it to work by installing the Viper4Android FX Magisk module. It didn't install the v4a app and kept the v4Arise app.

Usually, you have to go into /system/vendor/etc and rename or delete (I always just append ".old" to the end) the audio_effects.conf file. I installed V4A via Magisk module, but can not get access to rename the audio_effects.conf file. I can write to the /vendor/etc directory but not delete or rename the file.

Editing things in /vendor causes a lock up. But you can do it using twrp file manager. You can delete or rename anything you want there. Hope this helps.

Hi, I tried to install viper4android sound mod but it is not installing. It says please check if the device is rooted or busybox is installed or not.
I am on PA 17th August and Franco kernel, with busybox and full root naturally. Is there any explanation or solution to install drivers?
I've tried:
°Uninstalling app and re-installing…
°changing Roms and kernels…
°turning on "safe mode" and "compatible mode" in the app
°deleting dalvik cache
°selecting A8 drivers and A9 drivers too (users said both work).
But still it won't install, it gives the same error if someone can be of help, I'd be really grateful thanks!

Make sure that u have installed busybox by opening that busybox installer app, people get confused by installing app only.
Rest I don't know, I have install this mod yesterday only working fine.

I had this problem as well, try downloading supersu and updating the su binary via TWRP. viper somehow worked after that.

Make sure you have the latest version by updating thru the in app settings. Also, superuser will not work. You must be using supersu for root.

Uninstall existing Viper APK. Locate XDA thread with viper_v2.3.3.0.zip in it (it also has 2 more tweak zips) and then first flash viper_v2.3.3.0.zip and then the other two from recovery. This flash wipes davlik cache so it takes some time to rebuild on boot. Then install Viper driver and boot again. Done.

I'm having this broken busybox or not rooted completely/correctly error trying to install any version of viper4android as well. I have always had viper on this tablet, latest complete install of firmware is when problem started. But I have tried all fixes as everyone else has including using a cached buybox apk from previous install just to make sure something hadn't changed in Stericson's busybox, no go.
This is a real head scratcher!

Here is what I found that fixes this:
OK all I have a fix for installing Viper on the Tab S.
Use any file explorer and navigate to /system/vendor/etc
Copy the audio_effects.conf in that location
Navigate to /system/etc and paste the file you copied there
Once copied change the permissions to match the other files in the /system/etc folder
Install Viper and it should work this time, apparently the audio.effects.conf file is expected to be in the /system/etc location and is not there by default for some reason....*"
Even though this file was where it said to copy to, contents were different. Either way, afterwards all I had to do was open the V4A apk and it asked to install driver, BAM........!!!!!!! Worked!
Zach

like I said, my /etc had the file already as well, but by pasting over it, obviously changed contents, afterwards V4A installed drivers and worked.
I also found another mod that works, V4A FX, is 16ghz, but by downloading and installing V4A XHIFI, then installing the FX over it (you just activate the XHIFI, first check option under settings, then go back to FX), you get 32bit sound! Yeahhhh Baby!!!!!!!!

Correct! I can read and(!) follow
open rOM Toolbox, scroll right to build.prop Editer and open
Scroll left and create backup
---------- Post added at 02:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:55 PM ----------
now open root explorer or file explorer
go to SD card rOM Toolbox build.prop backup file and insert the file that you downloaded
---------- Post added at 03:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:57 PM ----------
now go back to backup and restore in rOM Toolbox for build.prop and restore the file that you downloaded here's where it gets hairy
whatever you do do not let it try to install whatever it downloads if you keep touching and using the tablet it will not attempt it on its own it must be at idle.after you reboot go to settings and check version number it should have the new build.prop file and check for updates. I'm hoping it will attempt to redownload the downgrade file to cashe then you must immediately remove it from device and delete that ROM slot.
it may not even like the swap and not even boot in that case that's why we had safestrap installed. It will not work just delete the slot and move on with life
Ok! Did that, installed the downloaded file and did a reboout.
System works, but no text is visible, only icons.

now it doesn't really matter how you want to try to do it but what we need to do is edit your file to accommodate the newer version numbers
you can either go to those backup files and swap their and restore again or use the backup file for reference and do it line by line in the prop build editor

Unsupported Rom/Kernel
Kernel:
- Stock
- Jolla
ROM:
F.A.Q.
Q: Spotify isn't working with that
A: Force enable Viper4Android and turn FX Mode to compatible. Then restart both applications.
Q: Why ElementalX Kernel?
A: That's the only Kernel who works with Viper except Stock kernel. Elite Kernel may also work but it hasent been updated since the Dev Previews.
Q: Is that also working with the stock rom?
A: Yup. Also works with (nearly) any stock based ROM.
Is there a definite way of checking if it's working? Not by sound?
Yes, just check driver status in viper when something is playing in the background. If it says 'processing', then it's working.
Btw, why would I need custom kernel for viper?

use a file exlorer with root privileges like es or root explorer and go to /etc/init.d directory, create a file and named "08setperm" (without quotes) and add the below lines in the file and save it..
#!/system/sh
setenforce 0
And give full permission (rwxrwxrwx)
reboot and you should be good. if for some reason your init.d script doesn't launch then download and install universal init.d tool and enable it.
Nice that someone is trying to get Viper4Android to work on Nexus 5x with Android 7.0 (Nougat). Sadly it does not work, tried your way but it does not enable me to get Viper4Android to work in Spotify.
Selinux is in permissive, your viber4android package is in place, audio_effects.conf removed, Android 7 by tupac4u installed and complete factory image installation before all this. No go..
Viper4android driver status does not complain but processing is always "no".
Try some other app like play music, v4a won't work on all apps if they have their own equalizer.

For those who want to use Viper4android with Spotify change fx compatible Mode to compatible in Viper settings. Then Open Spotify and go to Settings->Equalizer that should bring up Viper. Select Force enable and close Viper and Spotify. Open up both again and Boom Viper is there.
How find Android 7 by tupac4u ??
EDIT.

My OnePlus 5 is unable to read or write the internal storage. I don't see any file in Gallery or any other app that lists media files. File explorer shows how much space is used up but it says my storage is empty. Can't download files, can't create folders or files. Sometimes it fixes itself and I could access all my files. Or sometimes rebooting the phone fixes it. I tried some command lines in adb trying to fix permissions, but got no luck out of it. Somebody, please help!
P.S.: My phone is rooted with SuperSU, runs on the latest OOS build, has Xposed installed and I haven't tried switching roms.
Update: Uninstalling Xposed solved it.

Yes, I have xposed installed. How did you uninstall it? There's no uninstaller zip for Nougat yet. Did you just restore your rom?

There is Uninstaller available for Xposed on Nougat :
Download and Flash this in TWRP, wipe cache and Reboot :

My OnePlus 5 is unable to read or write the internal storage. I don't see any file in Gallery or any other app that lists media files. File explorer shows how much space is used up but it says my storage is empty. Can't download files, can't create folders or files. Sometimes it fixes itself and I could access all my files. Or sometimes rebooting the phone fixes it. I tried some command lines in adb, but got no luck out of it. Somebody, please help!
P.S.: My phone is rooted with SuperSU, runs on the latest OOS build and I haven't tried switching roms.

I had this issue on the first boot after rooting using Magisk, a simple reboot fixed it. So maybe try rooting using Magisk? I know it's not a complete solution but just throwing a thought out there.

I've written a fix for this in the xXx no limits thread, go take a look. Easy can be done from terminal.

If it's fixing permissions via terminal then sorry, that didn't work. As I said, xposed was the problem. Uninstalling it fixes the problem.
Happend to me 2 times... a simple reboot solved it.

]This fixed it for me.
Cannot download due to SD card missing" Error.
Simply open a terminal emulator and type in the following.
su
restorecon -FR /data/media/0
Reboot and it should work thereafter.

Glad it worked for you. Sadly for me, fixing permissions or contexts didn't help. Anyways, I said it earlier, uninstalling Xposed fixed it.
@SynisterWolf please close this thread. The issue is fixed.
Yea I didn't have xposed installed you see, plus mine reoccurred. Was only trying to help.

Oh man, thanks. I spent hours trying to solve this.
As the title states, I want to make it get help making or have someone make(lol) a flash able zip to install hosts file of my choosing to /system/etc
Have you tried adaway? Only issue ive had is Google adverts on shopping listings.
Good idea though, but you'd need to update constantly.
Adaway is way more practical.
You need to use magisk, either a module or adaway with systemless hosts enabled in magisk manager.
^this!

Adaway does not work for, even using systemless mode with magisk. I have an older twrp flashable zip that works for Oero and older but don't know how to update it to work with Android 10+

I've tried version 4.03 all the way to newer version. The newer version doesn't work because I get not enough space which IS wrong because I would even delete apps from /system and /product to ALLOW more space just in case

Your don't have enough space because you're not using systemless mate, no other reason.
I'm currently on 4.38
Everybody using xXx using using it, everybody who's rooted is probably using it

Ahhh buddy, this is why you explain what operating system you're on, what firmware when asking about a problem, especially when it seems odd to others.
This question should be asked in the RR thread, as it's not relevant anywhere else.
I've never used RR but anything I suggest is going to be futile because of the fact that you're running RR.
For example, Titanium does not work for me on Carbon, simply would not see root so I couldn't restore a thing.
The advice I've provided in regards to what needs to be done in magisk to get adaway working is accurate..
For RR id have thought that it would be the same, now I don't think that's the case.
See what they say in the RR thread mate.

You can't delete them, it's impossible. All devices launched with Android 10 and dynamic partitions have read only system, vendor, product etc and zero free space is by design. That's why magisk is the only option.
Tell your custom rom dev to reserve free space and allow R/W for system when compiling the ROM, that's the only way to directly modify the system.
Systemless hosts does work on custom ROMs, I have tried it myself. After enabling systemless hosts, reboot, then open adaway and try again.

Not really. No one paid attention to the title. Update the flashable zip so we can just flash a hosts file of our choice and no apps needed

Yes, and it's called Energized Protection or whatever adblock module in manager. Take the source (as reference), edit hosts and zip it up.
It's pointless to update the zip because whatever installation method it has won't work, only a module will work which is basically creating a whole new zip.

My point was, that the hosts change, it will need to continually need to be updated.
Counterintuitive.

I see, well good for you..
I've also used this method and they do slip through, that happened in a lot under 4 years???
Either way I can't help with this.
So, not possible to flash a hosts file to /system_root/system/etc/ ? It seems that everytime I flash the file it get overwritten at boot.

It doesn't get overwritten because it doesn't modify anything in the first place. It's not possible to modify the system on stock software. Either magisk or VPN based adblocker like Blokada is your option.
