Community development strength - Honor View 10 Real Life Review

You're a power user. Can the Honor V10 keep up? Rate this thread to express how "healthy" the development scene is for the Honor V10. A higher rating indicates available root methods, kernels, and custom ROMs.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

I like the mobile myself but I have no idea if this company releases kernel sources or allows unlocked bootloaders easily.

dude, how many phones did get oreo ? even the recently launched op5t (next to pixel in software updates ) has nougat pre installed . wait for 2018, you will surely get. and believe me, Oreo already has battery drain bug and that's why 8.1 launched recently .
consider famous brands like s8 and note 8 , they are still using nougat.
Of all oreo devices out there now is in beta phase only.
so.. do you want slow update STABLE os or do u want fast update BUGGY os ? believe me, i have used honor 6 and oneplus 3 and i certainly felt like you before switching to oneplus 3 but the weekly or frequent updates made a headache for me. well that's may be just me. but it's also a fact. neither am against a company nor am favouring anyone but i just stated my point

I don't know if everybody here thinks wrong, or I am wrong . Honor v10 comes with Oreo out of the box.

dude, what about Nokias, HTC U11, U11+, some Honors already, Xperia XZ1, Compact, Xiaomi, and many others, not mentioning all with Android One program? And "consider famous brands like s8 and note 8 , they are still using nougat..." Well, thats just Samsung, never been so fast with updates, nor it's a famous brand, the s8 or note 8 (but you've meant models, not brand, right?).

Honor v10 comes with oreo and treble support, so you can't even compare that to pre oreo phones that were born with nougat. In theory the treble support and the fact that Huawei released the kernel sources for this phone straight away, should allow for some decent community development
On top of that, I think Huawei was just giving out 100 free devices to willing developers because they want to strenghth the custom rom community for this phone

I think honor really trying to compete with one plus by helping developers by providing all the hardware details and documentation to develop custom Roms for the Honor View 10 and with the treble support soon we will get many custom Roms. I hope developers will take interest in this device.

What stable os are you talking about..
I bought the view 10 recently .. it was all good till i got the recent face unlock update..
The touch lag is pathetic ( couple of other member's here pointed it out too )
Before the update it was fantastic , but now for a person who types fast its very annoying..

Yes , wiped chache and even full reset , still i can notice the lag .
I thought it was just my mobile but found out in this forum couple of other guys too have the same issue ..
Can anyone post their touch latency figure's ?
If anyone could do before and after update it would be highly appreciated

Which community? Since the bootloader is locked this device is crap for me. I will replace my Honor view 10 with an OnePlus . Cu

Dead.. Community development is bad.
Broken recoveries.
Difficult and buggy flash procedures that render different results.
What works on one phone isn'tguaranteed to work on the next of the same make and model.
Really nice hardware.. Just tedious flash procedures.
Many other companies willingly help developers... While honor steals improvements and then locks down their phones.
If you really want a flash friendly phone.. Huawei and honor isn't.
My next phone will be a Samsung Galaxy note 10 international version.

If you're looking for a development-friendly phone, Honor is not the solution for you. We do have a program where we give out bootloader unlock codes to a select number of people every once in a while, but there is no official support for unlocking your bootloader. This results is a very small development community.

Just bought a Mate 8

Gold L29 - yay!
OK, I'm an Android phone snob. Chronic flasher, thought I'd only buy Nexus devices. Pixel XL not good enough for me. As much of a Google fan I am, that device is not an upgrade and looks like an iPhone. I'm keeping my Nexus 6, have Verizon grandfathered unlimited data, the Mate 8 will be a new play phone for me and wanted something flashy (LOL) with a BIG screen. I bought a pretty crystal butterfly grip/stand which will look so cool with the gold. Looks like a great device.
Was waiting for the Mate 9, but couldn't wait any more and seems the 9 isn't a huge upgrade from the 8. Processor looks better but I think I'll be happy with the 8, then wait for the 10 hoping that they make a little improvement with the screen resolution (I know it's not a huge difference to the eye, but still...).
I'm excited to unlock and root this thing, looks like the guides are pretty strong. Reading a lot on the ROM/tool options. Haven't unlocked bootloader on a device or rooted for 2 years since my N6....should be interesting. Not a large amount of development but I think I'll be happy here and will have a new hobby.
Welcome aboard!

Hi,
I can sense the happiness in your writing I feel the same too. Just purchased Huawei Mate 8 NXT-AL10 few days back. As soon I received my phone, I updated it to Android Nougat and the results are outstanding.
Phone is so much better. Battery life is fantastic. I already crossed 10 hour mark (screen on time) twice so far easily. Features are all working. I was bit sad not to find "double tap to wake up" by default even though I found few apps on google play store which fulfill this requirement. I was pleasantly surprised to find Call recording available even without root. Fingerprint feature is new for me, my previous phones didn't have it so I am really enjoying this feature. Camera is good too. Overall, Huawei did a brilliant job with this phone. There are so many reasons to smile with this phone. It is perfect in every way.
Huawei Mate 9 seems to have a better processor, GPU and camera. At the moment, it is expensive for me but I hope I am able to purchase it in coming months . I love Android phones, tablets and high performance laptops. I used to flash a lot with Samsung phones and tablets few earlier but I reduced it significantly over the years. And at the moment I am just having loads of fun with Mate 8 with Nougat I am sure you will have plenty of fun too once you update to Nougat. I highly recommend updating to Nougat to everyone. It is really awesome on this phone.
Cheers!

Hi,
You are right. There are bugs.
I have NXT-AL10 there are two more updates after B562. B573 and B575. They are slightly ok. I don't know what is the equivalent version of that for your model L29.But you might find minor improvements in the updates.
Can you take a screenshot of settings-> account e-mail>"add account" page?
Thanks,

So I spent several hours today with my Mate 8 unlocking bootloader and rooting. It was a little tricky, primarily with drivers issues - every device is different with unlocking/rooting. The whole DC unlocker and reading bootloader code - what fun!
So now I have a Mate 8 with unlocked bootloader and rooted...now what to do? Now I'm researching the different ROM options, nougat, etc. It still seems tricky with the encryption thing and the builds/versions thing and isn't as straight forward!
Back...to the boards.... LOL.
Love the device -- glad I got this thing.
just bought one a few hours ago today. replaced my (absolutely ****e battery life) 6P guess I know which board I will be on all night long tonight

If you're going to unlock and root it, give a shout if you run into any problems. I made it through but a few hiccups along the way.
Now the decision is what ROM to do!!!
It can get a bit tough especially with the bootloader code stuff. I recently did it myself and flashed it to L29c636b211 from c636b320 both stock and its running incredibly smooth and fast. Battery life is very solid as well.

Feel so embarrassed, the part on the bootloader code reading that got me what I thought I was all set when clicking Unlock OEM in developers settings and thought I didn't need to call in to change to manufacturer mode, but after a couple hours I realized I needed to do that! I'm glad though that I didn't wait the 14 days to get the code - seriously my impatience is worse than the $4.
If anyone has opinions on what ROM to flash please share. After the unlocking and rooting I'm ok with setting with a rooted stock Mate 8, but I'll get restless soon..... LOL.

i don't know why but i just got a feeling that you are flashoholic just like me, i was ok with stock rooted rom, but i needed to try something else, to change things a bit, so i had to flash nougat, and after that i found my self wanting to root, and i did it, so i am on rooted nougat Rom, i am so glad i did it, but still want more Lol

How did you get to nougat ROM? I am on l29. I am not clear how to get to any ROM given encryption and different builds and what you have to flash back to. Lol.

well i'm on L09 but the diference is just the model files everything else must be identical, the steps i followed are the following: 1- install twrp in your current emui version which i guess in your case should be 4.0 2- download the nougat Rom and the data file for your model and put it on your sd card 3-flash the rom first and then the data file (so far you are still encrypted but as you are using the sd card to flash the files then twrp is able to see them) 4- after you flash both of the files you will boot to nougat and can complete the initial settup process 5- now to get root (optional) you can flash twrp for nougat using fastboot and then the recommended supersu, the thread to do that is located somewhere in the development forum if i am not mistaken.... i know it was quite lenghthy but those are the steps i followed.

Thanks - very helpful! Helps me to understand the steps better.
I'm still reading about the ROM options - KangVIP, Twisted, Nougat...to see what I want to try first. :silly:
Keep us posted on what rom you try. Im also looking into nougat roms but have read so far they are not fully stable yet. My current rom, b211, runs perfect for me so i dont want to run into issues with essentially beta builds.

Will mate 8 get Android O ?

Android O seem very impressive for especially the under the hood stuff and performance increase with running apps.
I am sure if Mate 8 Got Android 0 it would get a second life, it would feel like you would get kirin 960.
Android Nougat sucks ... it drains more batteries then marshmallow .... Marshmallow was perfect ...

Personally to answer at all that.
I think Marshmallow was the best for the battery.
I've no issue with Nougat, except maybe like lot, the battery is less efficient. But I don't disturb with it because it works for the day. No need more. We shouldn't wait more of a phone with a big size. Say that 'O' could be worse with its consumption. Many new systems are less energy-consuming than their predecessors.
The only thing which will do that we won't have this new system, certainly, it's because the Android system doesn't do more than one or two update(s) on the devices. In addition, like it's a phone which is not followed, no one will develop unOfficial 'O' like LineageOS or AOSP on this phone. And I regret because this phone could work fine with this OS.
Sorry to say you! YOU, ME... WE had chosen the wrong phone to hope to have lot of updates!!!!
Until now, I was with Samsung Galaxy S serie, for that, this phone was really well desserved. Only thing which disturbs me was this damn knox. Now I almost regret it.
B.R
I agree franz , mate 8 is the perfect phone with almost of non related imperfections not pertaining to the phone its self lol. This is where the p9 kernel can be adudited and run Lin. If I could run mm with now let's say oreo animations ,boot , splash, shutdown like I found from a mate 9 fw for oreo ..
Yeah mate 8 is perfect phone but Huawei sucks with update and the really need to talk with their customers ....

Yeah I know that ... But I don't talk about the OS jumped .... Android also security update sucks ...

Android O promise easier upgrades for manufactures. So once on Android o it might be easier for them to upgrade to newer version also
Let's hope so
Yes , until I get new OTA for nougat c636B580 update last week . It solve the battery drain problem and it was perfect now . So guy get your latest patch or update then you will feel the different

It is possible to get Android O.because it's GPU is same as galaxy s7(just different is in cores). Huawei reason for nougat for mate 7 was gpu.but I don't think Huawei will update mate 8 to O.

Personally I would find it very strange and also a brand suicide to not give Mate 8 Android O.
Mate 8 is still one of the most fast performing phones and have that reputation. It is a top notch device minus the camera, but not every one care about camera, it is the screen, speed of software and form factor that counts for me..and it looks damn sexy to I think (I recently modded mine to mocha brown).
I will say this if Mate 8 does not get android o I will not buy Huawei again..
In terms of Mate 7 I can understand, it still got , kit kat, then lollipop then marshmallow it was kind of a lot of updates...even though I personally think mate 7 would really had benefited from nougat and android o.
I believe Mate 8 get Android O (last update maybe). Huawei already working on new "O" system.
https://galagram.com/2017/06/kakie-smartfony-obnovyatsya-do-android-8-0/
Mate 8 should get O, because its a 64 bit processor. Android O, is built on 64bit.
I hope its module driven, that way, it'll just built itself by downloading drivers for the hardware on the phone. Updates would become very easy, and bugs with things like the camera could be squashed really quick.
I don't know if this is a reliable source, but it says that we will be getting Android O in November 2017:
https://www.gammerson.com/2017/04/list-huawei-honor-devices-getting-android-oreo-update.html
Well... Will we get Oreo? I couldn't find any info....
No chance. Huawei abandoned this model already.
I am hoping for at least the Wi-Fi Krack fix through Android security patch but I am not very optimistic.
What do you mean by wifi crack?
Do you have the same problem with slow wifi connection?

Jack of all Trades, and Master of NONE??

Hello Developers, fellow users. I am Sam and I'd like to point out something that has been happening everywhere for years but it gets ignored.
I've been using Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 since when it was released in India and I was a XDA member even before that! Previously I had a Samsung Galaxy flagship phone.
Guys, all we've been doing is chasing our tails. Let me tell you why I say this. It starts with using MiUi and getting bored, then eventually Stock Android/AOSP ROMs are made (Of course because of the hard work the developers put in). We use them, they work really good, and their bugs are fewer.
However, as soon as there's a "Newer Version" of Android released, everthing else is left in the dust and forgotten!
Here's what I want to ask anyone and everyone who would answer it......
Why do we chase something that isn't even released for our device? What's the rush?
It started with Marshmallow release.
There were good lollipop ROMs and Marshmallow did not come out for our device, but nevertheless, the process started. Okay, but by the time when some good Marshmallow ROMs were being made, Nougat gets released and all hell breaks loose, "AGAIN"!!! Once more, the process started. And again on the verge of having some good Nougat ROMs, "Oreo is released"? Please see the pattern here!!
Now, we know that Nougat might never be made available, officially, for kenzo.
My point is we haven't had a bug free ROM with good signals, ever!
Not in any version of Android!!
I urge the developers to consider, even partnering up, for making a good and bug free "Marshmallow ROM", Nougat Rom before moving on to OREO
@Demon_sss @TheStrix @xyxx @GreekDragon @PhenomX1998 @psndna88 @abhishek987 @TheDarkStrix @Umang96 @jhenrique09 @AmolAmrit @wight554 @dadi11 @poad42 @O_dinochka @minz1 @Ashish94 @ValoXis @flar2 @rocknegi @srisurya95 @Sudeep Duhoon @EsromG5
@scrubjay55
I make no demands guys, but more people than just me will be obliged if this becomes something real!

Bored of MIUI is the basis for discussion? I'm in support of all devs I'm happy the way they progressed starting from Marshmallow & now we have stable Nougat where as Xiaomi is abandoning older devices.
Regarding the network strength there's not a huge difference between MIUI & Custom roms imo.
You have two choices try taking this to the next level of Xiaomi executives or never buy MI devices.

1. The basis of this discussion is, actually, the love for stock Android. Not only we get bored of MiUi but also by using TouchWiz, Flyme etc. Okay!!
2. No we don't have stable ROMs yet, not really!!
3. It's strategy to abandon older devices that Xiaomi also follows, nothing odd about it!
So, in short,
I thank thou for your UNvaluable inputs here!!
I think AOSIP by shrisurya is almost complete nougat ROM with best signals and stability.RR,nitrogen, los are pretty strong ones too,so no problem in focusing on developing Oreo ones.just a rookie's thought.

I would rather ignore you at this point but let me answer :
> If you love stock android that's k but bored of MIUI? Do you have a life or just keep staring at your phone lmao, if you give valid reasons like performance, battery life etc that's acceptable.
> We don't have stable roms yet? all Nougat roms are stable for usage in real life i.e. Network, Battery life, No lags or FCs , Theme support, Security patches etc
> Are you talking about strategy with me? Kid, in this case a device that has millions of users and had success there's a lot more to expect in terms of software updates. Abandoning a device with such popularity just after a year is a terrible decision.

Nougat ROMs are already plenty stable. Never experienced any bugs with the ROM I'm using for about 2 months now. Signal quality is the same with MIUI on mine. Using Desolation ROM by the way.
I think the 'Geek' in you is sleeping, you just need to wake him up and you will get the answer to your question.
This is positive post, No offence offered to anyone guys!!

Yeah 5.9 build of AoSIP is good for signals not much else though! None of the rest, i.e. including the newer version of the AoSIP, are even comparable with Global Stock Rom for kenzo!

Nougat ROMs are already plenty stable. Never experienced any bugs with the ROM I'm using for about 2 months now. Signal quality is the same with MIUI on mine. Using Desolation ROM by the way.

Okay, regarding the signal quality, no, it most unequivocally, isn't even as good as that of An MiUi Rom!

You're aware that people have their own choices right, also most of us are here because, even if we don't hate/get bored of Miui, We at least don't like/prefer MiUi as much, which includes you too!
1. Also battery is the most....
You know what, I know you can't help me man!
I'm not interested in this stupid quarrel!
So, it's now an EOC with you Vaibhav!

To be fair, your thread is actually pointless/stupid. It's just ranting. You claim there are no stable Nougat, yet there are a lot here that says otherwise. Your definition of stable is suspect here. Probably, stable = perfect.
It's easy to check if signal strength really is better in MIUI. Flash MIUI, put your phone down somewhere then take note of the signal strength(dbm and asu not the signal bar) with several second intervals for several minutes(until you're satisfied) then do the same for the other ROM you want. Mine showed no difference. The only thing better with MIUI was camera quality.
I am using Nitrogen OS nougat for quite some time now, and I must say it's totally stable, never faced any problem till now. And I have even compared the dBm and asu with miui roms, and there's no difference practically, and there's no call drops or poor call quality issues also. You can definitely give it try, I don't know what else you mean by stable.

About Android 8

Today I read that Android 8 goes on a modular structure, and the fact that the system is quietly put from one firmware to several smartphones. Do you think someone will be able to port under our smartphone?
I dont believe this phone is forgoten by its manufacturer Alcatel and I dont see anyone doing something it didnt even had the nougat update
Android 8? Are you crazy bro ??? first 6.1 + 7.0 + 7.1 more more more after 8.0
Alcatel is very bad company, all firmware uptdates impossible.
bad company
I know that now this was my first and my last Alcatel phone I like the phone but Alcatel showed that they don't care about their customers today Samsung announced that his 3 year old S6 phone will get also Android 8 update and so with newer device no upadate's... shame for Alcatel not for us
Oreo added a functionality called Project Treble which makes updating phones easier because it segregates the sections that need to get updated so that Carriers/Manufacturers can update their code quicker. Without that functionality, it is possible to get Oreo, but updates are just as hard to implement as Nougat would be.
In short, no, I don't think that Idol 4S will ever get Oreo. I do think that any future phone should have Oreo (with Project Treble) to potentially avoid this situation in the future.
We can not install any custom roms without opening the bootloader lock! Alcatel is a very dishonest company does not even give us this !! I sent a message to Alcatel over all social media accounts, but they did not even give me one answer. I really like my phone, but it gets so boring like this ...

Sometimes i just can't believe alcatel's flagship phone(yes i'm aware of the idol 5s) won't receive any major update... No android 7,no android 8, no nothing. Alcatel(Tcl) has become a joke, they only care about releasing as much crappy low budget devices they possibly can, while software support for said devices is non existent. Its a shame really, because every once in a while they can release a good smartphone(idol 4s) that is completely forgotten software wise. No more alcatel for me...
Do not buy Alcatel phones they Will not update the OS, i know for Shure i have bought a lot of their
Phones, none was ever upgraded, even no security patches.

Lineage ROM support dropped ... what a pity ! Is there an alternative ?

Does anyone know what ROM to install on a LG G6 to keep it safe for at least 2-3 years ?
A few months ago, I bought a second hand LG G6 H870 for its camera quality !
At that time, I thought that I could keep it "updated" at least for safety patches with a LINEAGE ROM beyond "the usual 2-years limit" more or less granted by sellers and Brands.
Unfortunately, Lineage DEV dropped their support for this phone ...
In other words, I was cheated by LG ... and i was cheated by LINEAGE ....
Who's next ?
Help me make sense !
You can use the camera even if you don't have the last update
You can simply use stock rom, debloat it and you will see, it's quite good experience. You can use Gcam also, there is thread with the best version in this forum

Yeah we still have one major update and a few security patches left from LG. It's not like the phone is completely abandoned.
Also, yup this man is right, you can perfectly use GCAM on stock software.

What makes you say that?
Lineage 16.0 is currently being developed for all LG msm8996 devices (g5,g6,v20).

The info is on the official Wiki : https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/h870
Of course, I don't talk about any Lineage roms eventually and unofficially developped on xda ... by a "lone" developper ...
I hate to say so, but if the official Lineage OS (or any other official and alternative ROM to the stock one) is droppred after 2 years, it defeats the purpose .... if the game is to extend the support for expensive gadgets ... and break the commercial practices BRANDS enforce on consumer ....

That page probably says that because in the past G6 was officially supported (I didn't check, but probably Lineage 14?).
Anyway, like I said Lineage 16.0 is being developed. It's not official, but you can't expect it to be when it's not quite ready yet.
Development has been slow on these LG devices. For me personally, on G5, it's not been an attractive option, but it's getting there
and likely will be official when it's ready.
Edit: It's mainly x86cpu which is developing now https://review.lineageos.org/q/owner:x86cpu.
So you see, I'm not talking about all those random roms that are about. Although some of their work probably will help.

Thanks Silver Wx,
You seem to understand very well what is going on with BRANDS such as LG, SAMSUNG, ONEPLUS, APPLE, and whatever **** !
Yes stock rom is a good experience ! Except when security support is dropped after 2 years ...
In case you missed my point, LINEAGE OS "was" a warranty a +3-5 years supported phone ...
What kind of buyer are you Silver Wx ?
Every 2 years, you buy a new phone ?
Go back to school ....
