This has been plaguing my phone for a few months i can't even get 24 hours without it dieing. I can't figure out what the problem is and i have tried everything except a full wipe which i want to avoid.
Before i would get about 2 days with normal usage (few calls, browsing the net, msn, music and little bit of gaming)
Now when i unplug it at 7AM it is almost dead by 3PM (15%) but nothing has changed so i can figure out where the drain is coming from. I'm using Doc 9.6.6 (was on 9.1.4 and did a NO WIPE of 9.6.6 yesterday to see if i could get better battery) and SpeedMod K13C 500.
Everything that uses data is disabled or set to manual. Wifi is disabled, GPS is disabled, Bluetooth disabled. Google/Facebook sync is disabled. No Live Wallpaper, Email is set to NEVER, Fancy Widgets is set to NEVER. Reset the battery state in recovery numerous times, wiped cache etc.
Last night phone was at 60% when i woke up the phone was at 35% and that's only about 10 hours and after a FRESH shutdown and reboot. So nothing out of the ordinary like a game was running.
Whats Running after a fresh boot is in the pictures below, ending things like Tango and Galley, Facebook make no difference.
What is causing this massive idle drain?
If i need to do a full wipe is there a way to save my games saves? don't care for anything else just dont wanna start angry birds over again for a 3rd time.
You got 2 days before??
I've always only ever gotten max 12-14 hours out of my battery. Wifi off, bluetooth off, gps off, 3g on, background data & auto-sync on for: 2 gmail accounts + facebook (no auto refresh) + twitter (updates ever 30 mins) + whatsapp. BeejiveIM, GoSMS, Lookout, weatherbug elite widget (updates every 12 hours), agenda widget, NoLED on, and go launcher ex. Running stock rom JL2. Drains about 15% overnight (7 hours).
Not sure how you got 2 days before, but sounds about right to me that you get less than 24 hours from your battery.
Myself and many others get 2 days with light-moderate usage. I'm on 2 days 9 hrs and 10% left right now with 2 hrs 15 min screen time.
If you can't figure it out you might just have to bite the bullet and wipe it to see if that works.

can you post your usage habits and what you have running the background etc?
I've only ever been able to get 14 hours out of my battery with light usage (mainly texting every 10-15 mins or so). Even after a wipe

yes i did try that, its annoying the hell outta me that it used to last 2 days but now its like this and thats with everything off.
I used to have a live wallpaper on all the time and yes that did drain the battery allot but i would still have about 30% after a full day of usage from a full change.
Now it dose not matter what i change if i live wallpaper or not its still dies about 3PM
any way to save my games says if i have to do a wipe?
That's awesome! I get 8% an hour drain on idle with 2 gmail accounts, and a few apps synching... with usage (bluetooth music, browsing, texting...) I have about 15% an hour drain.
Wiping, battery stats wipe, new roms, kernels, and modems don't fix anything... I guess we just have to accept that some units go through more battery than others!
If you're using Google Latitude service (configured via Maps), try signing out of it and see what it does for you. I've been suffering from excessive battery drain as well and after a lot of experimenting I've found out that using Latitude on Froyo ROMs (any Froyo) leads to phone not entering sleep mode properly for some reason and therefore draining battery a lot.
Nexus S users are experiencing this as well and I've even had confirmations from Desire users experiencing this, so this might be some bigger issue not related to SGS.

There's all the standard stuff running, gmail, swype, social hub, task manager, some other widgets, etc... There's no talk time on this run, it can burn it up pretty quick probably 20+% per hour.

Wow. I'm insanely envious of your 3days! and also, your display only sucks up 53%. Something is odd with my phone, my display usually takes about 98%.

No, no Latitude.
The display will suck up 90+% if you're using the phone alot since it burns battery much faster than idle or networks.

Interesting, I'm going to give it a go without Latitude on after I reflash stock JL2. My "Time on" for Display is usually something like 40mins or so when I check it at 98%
Idle drain seems to be what are most worried about.
Ok first fix permissions from cwmedia recovery in speedmod.
Then wipe cache and dalvik partitions, don't worry your phone will rebuild them.
Next I would try something if you want avoid a factory wipe.
Disable swype and clear app data then re-enable. Swype seems to have non wipe issues thru kies.
Now use OS monitor app to find apps which lurk in the background and then check their permissions, ones that can keep the phone awake are the culprits. Wipe their data or uninstall.
Facebook app sometimes doesn't shut down properly so watch that.
Also after a session I like to use clear mem level2 to stop Facebook or another app eating battery.
Finally what modem are you using? Jpy modem sucks for me at least. The latest jve from the gingerbread leaked rom is superb!
Hope this helps and good luck!
Stock JPY, Insanity SpeedMod OC-1200Mhz/UV, ext4, JVE gingerbread Modem,
Something I did a while ago seemed to help.
I ran down the battery till it switched off. Phone wouldn't power on. I plugged in the charger and powered on again. To my surprise the battery showed about 25%. Unplugged the charger then used it again till shutdown. Took about half an hour to do so, even though it was only connected to charger for a minute or so. Did that about 5 or more times till finally booting up with charger connected showed 0%.
Generally it not a good idea to boot with the charger connected as it stuffs up the battery stats or something, but I think in some cases it can help. Charged it to full and had no problems since.
Obviously this wont help if something in the background is killing the battery.

May be you have a task killer running in background and killing tasks that you shouldnt kill, by example any widget you have in your screen, it will cause that it will be reestarting and consuming CPU each certain time.

Remove TANGO !!! This soft was draining more than 25% overnight on my SGS (even if there's no service running and if it's not in task manager), After removing it, now my battery decreases 3-4% in 8h !
Funny Tango was the one thing that jumped out to me from the process list, but I don't have any experience with it myself. Shutting that off for a while is probably worth a shot.
This is my batterystats. "Taleanrop" is phonecalls or whatever the english term is.
hi i make some battery "meters" to compare with others and see if we have a bad battery or something its draining our battery. after several test freezing apps, motoblur services and so on i get some interesting stuff like freezing sometimes motoblur service will not help on battery in fact could cause some FC, and not sure if some apps are "calling" the freezing services that make drain faster.
i make a "chart" using gingerblur with apps, fresh sbf test, sbf with apps and so on.
i was using live wallpapers and without LWP, i noticed an maybe "obvious" if you arent in home screen LWP will not drain your battery. maybe only when you wake and stay too much in homescreen, perhaps its not to much IMO yes you can save Battery using a normal wallpaper i can say 5% max.
in my test i use NO DATA, since data will drain a lot the battery and its kind "unestable" to check because bad signal data transfer and so on, i will research more later, in all my test i leave the screen doing nothing i didint execute any process and FULL BRIGHT, and i use Battery Monitor widget to chech 1% by 1%
Using GingerBlur 2.5 in .57 version and all my apps drops from 99% to 63% ( 36%) in 2 hours using LWP in homescreen (secret LWP from SGSII)
After a fresh sbf .83 no apps installed,NO LWP after 1 hr drop from 99% to 88%, after 1:30 from 99% to 81% then i start using the phone and after 2 hr drops to 76%
then i install all my apps, using LWP drop from 99% to 70% then 2 hours later and one phone call drop to 61%
i use this .83 with all my apps 13 min phone call and 2 hours playing a movie in through my tv and drops 30%
and last using a LWP but i was in settings screen for 2 hours and i drop from 99% to 75% again using FULL Bright in all cases
(in airplane mode i get for 9 hour just 6% decrement using setCpu screen off 425)
i will compare this with my 2200mah anida battery (when arrive ¬¬ )
so im wondering who else can try "compare" this results so we can check averages and see if we have a good battery and then a rogue app.
And last i found 1 app that make me drain pretty fast
Enhanced Email (it drops in airplane mode like 7 hours like 16%)
lighflow seems drain a little no to much
My battery drains like 1% per minute on voice calls. I don't know how Moto thinks it gets 300 mins of 3g talk.
I hard reset last night and I'm getting ~3% per hour drain, which is typical for me. Screen time kills this thing no matter what brightness level I have it set at.
Here's my setup:
Blur doing FB and Twitter sync
Gmail set to push
Corporate Sync email, calendar, contacts set to push (setting this to 15 min or 30 min makes no difference in my experiance)
Docs and Voice apps, but not auto-syncing
Astrid tasks syncing with Google
A bunch of other apps that don't sync and aren't running by default (I just installed them, haven't run them yet)
I did a factory reset because something was trashing my battery usage. I burned through a full charge in 6-7 hours yesterday and my phone was quite warm.

yea seems the atrix get pretty warm a lot, in my "heavy" usage playing or watching a video can get 40+ degrees.
i get 1% per hour with no data and like 4% with data.
i was reading heavy usage and get like 24 hrs and i say no way my battery sucks lol.
i usually get like 12-14 hour with medium usage all day data on (maybe 1 or 2 off) posting on fb some browsing msn and like 4 hours playing music
i have 10% bright its enought for me. at least the atrix let me last a little more than my nexus one battery isnt amazing FOR ME perhaps isnt bad at all with "heavy" usage i guess i will get like 9 hours or little less

Lol. I came from Milestone and I am finding Atrix cold .
My Milestone in hardcore use was easily reaching 50 celsius degrees .
My atrix while I am in hard use usually stays in 42 degrees too.
Guys i get a full day out of this phone without even trying etheir you guys are not flashing the phone properly or your phones are corrupted this phone has better battery life than my iphone 4 did
I get at least 2 days. Now that I am not playing with it constantly, I normally get 3 days (and 2 inactive nights) to about 20-30%.
Not rooted.
Do fairly regular email, fb, maps, /. , etc.
No movies
Virtually all data is via WiFi
BUT
It is not my primary computer. I program days and do most of my work on a real computer. Tonight in my chair with a glass of wine, I am using an Eee netbook -- a real keyboard is dramatically faster for me.
And I have developed the following important habit: I always put it to sleep with the slanted key at the top whenever I am done, so my screen time is fairly low. I think this helps a lot.
I expected battery life to be a problem before I bought it and that's why I like the back cover -- easy to change the battery. However, this has even better battery life than my last Blackberry and I thought that was excellent. I won't be buying another battery until I have a year or so on this one.
I believe the essence of all of these power conversations is that if you use it as your primary computer, you will use up the battery fast. If you use it primarily as a phone and as a portable secondary computer, the battery is excellent.

FYI
I'm currently running 1.5.7 & a couple of days ago i froze updater 2.2.1 because i was sick of getting reminders to update (using gladiatrix). Since then (although it only just clicked) my battery drain has been horrid (10% per hour in standby), after thawing updater 2.2.1, my battery drain has gone back to normal (1% every 2 hours in standby)
Mmmmm I will freeze as well to se improvements perhaps there is no updates atm and maybe will not get better

Hi,
My Galaxy S5 has be very laggy and the battery has become so bad I have to carry a charger everywhere with me.
The lag is really bad and I've counted 5 seconds + opening Chrome Beta, the gallery, camera, etc.
I tried doing a search but it's hard to pinpoint because of the number of articles and threads about TW lag in general. I found a few suggested apps to see what the CPU usage is and it appears mine is quite high, even when just swiping through the home screens. I've attached screenshots from my tests today.
The problem goes away with a restart but eventually comes back. Sometimes it happens and eats my battery before I realise it's happening.
I've done three factory resets since I got the phone 1 month ago.
Any suggestions on what to do appreciated.

Look in /settings/battery/ and look for power consumption and install BetterBatteryStatts to monitor apps and processes. Its usualy user apps, wrong settings or maybe a bad modem that causes high battery consumption.

Currently my battery usage is:
Android OS 21%
Screen 20%
Android System 14%
Google Play Services 5%
TuneIn 5%
Cell Stanby 4%
Chrome Beta 3%
Fenix 3%
HD Widgets 3%
It's usually in the same approx order. Anything there stand out? (I wouldn't usually use TuneIn, just needed it today).

Looks pretty normal to me. You might want to install CPU-Spy to look for deep sleep issues.
What runs under "Phone Idle" on the V20. It's been the largest battery consumer for the last week of use that I've noticed. My wife's V20 is the same and I had my brother check his and his wife's V20.
I'm only asking because I'm not see great battery life like other have been reporting. I don't have live wallpaper, have only two widgets on the home screen. GPS is set to battery save, screen is set to auto but that doesn't even come close to chewing up the battery.
Sadly I feel like I'm still using my old 2.5 year G3 where it'll need a charge mid way through the day.

I agree with you. Although my phone is just beyond a week old and does have all my apps installed, a factory reset can't be the solution here. This is the typical "I don't know how to fix this" answer always given by manufacturers and carriers.

In the roughly 3 weeks I've had my V20 I've only seen this once where phone idle was higher than Screen. I started looking thru all running apps for 'keep awake' time being high and noticed Android OS had keep awake of over 2 hours when it's normally less than an hour after a full day use. I power cycled the phone and it stopped.
The weird thing was Android OS didn't show high battery usage even though something was triggering keep awake. Looks like the keep awake was causing phone idle to be high.
I'd look at everything in your battery usage to see if you have any high keep awake times.

Sorry did not mean to be short in my response. When you set up your phone did you restore it from another phone using the nfc bump thing? I did the same and my phone battery was the same way. Wouldn't last even half a day. After i factory reset and set everything up manually i get 18+ hrs with 7 hrs screen on time sometimes.
If this situation doesn't apply to you then maybe a reset won't help. But you have to understand your situation isn't normal.
Make sure Google now features are all turned off and not running in the background.

I'll have to go through the apps one by one like I did previously on my G3 and see. Now within the battery stats there is only a handful of apps like hangout, play music, chrome and camera. The rest is OS related so that's why I was curious what ran under Phone Idle.

No and sadly I was looking for that feature a week ago but couldn't find it so I had to individually install most of my apps I had on my previous phone...made for a long night along with the additional emails and configuration or icons and such.
I'll keep digging away at the phone...I really want to like this phone ?
Has there been a definitive resolution to "phone idle" battery drain? I just got a V20 2 weeks ago on sale for $360 and its a fantastic upgrade over the One+1 I've been rockin all these years, but I'm also suffering from mediocre life due to whatever phone idle is. Some forums (for other phones) say phone idle is related to your wireless signal. I'm still with the same carrier and frequenting the same locations and had no such battery drain with that old One+.
i finally discovered whats was goin on with me..
i had the same issue..
phone idle was topping my battery usage list
it turns google plays have this "locationmanager service " and locationwhatever" that kills your battery over wifi even with location button off
Go to locations/ 3 dots in top right corner/ turn off WiFi scan. See if that helps.
My phone has been suffering from poor battery life for quite some time now, here are the screenshots, Android OS has been this high on almost all battery cycles.
I disabled wifi scanning as suggested above and will watch the performance, does the community have any other inputs to fix this? View attachment 4212978View attachment 4212979

how about doze mode , isnt that meant to help with this sort of problem ? ( my phone is currently on a ship )

So what did you do?
Would also be grateful if anyone shared a solution.
I specifically have a SIM-unlocked Sprint model (LS997) which am using in Europe with another carrier.
Using it in LTE preferred mode drains about 10-15% overnight.
Using it in WCDMA preferred mode drains up to 5% per night (yes, wifi and cellular data OFF and many apps greenified) . So I'm really interested in how this can be fixed and achieve 0% battery drain across several hours.
Or maybe it's SIM-unlocked Sprint ROM related?? I can't root my phone since it has the Feb 2017 patch and is a ZV6.
I suspect rooting it and using another ROM would solve this + the annoying issue of not being able to send images via FB Messenger and Viber while on cellular data (I imagine the Sprint guys placed some kind of restriction to deny media transfer for these apps when using cellular data).
I have noticed this too.. wondered why "phone idle" takes most battery... any suggestions would be great!
I am also curious about the solution. Phone Idle is at top. Even without SIM card. 30% drains during a night (everything is disabled, but no airplane mode is on). I tried factory reset, reinstall older ROM, replace battery, use no app but still sucks.
hi
my v20 phone battery draining was about 1% per hour before (about 7% totally ) and recently increased to 2% during sleeping time overnight. (draining 15% overnight in sleeping state)
it seems that during day either performance off battery is decreased.(about 5h with wifi and screen on usage)
Fast charging while second screen is On , is slower than when it is off therefore when second screen is Off , fast charging goes better . exactly , first 30 mins fast charging makes about 40% battery charge(instead of 50%) and after 60 min leads to 85% and full charging taking place after about 100 min instead of 80 mins.
another important thing is that sometimes shades have been seen on the LCD that many users have complained about it.

phone is in Air Plane Mode and all data services is off.
system apps like Google services and Play and Assistance is limited by permissions.
following are some advanced battery drain overnight figures of my phone for more analyzing.
any help with this issue is appreciated.
Hey.
Has anyone else noticed this - very high GPS drain after updating to the AQI7 update? I am on the European Exynos model and usually GPS is sitting at 1-3% usage at most after a normal day. Today it's closer to 10% with almost 300mah drained within 10 hours. That's more than half of my screen time usage.
Going through Better Battery Stats, I saw that *net_scheduler* with Google Services under it was forcing about 2000 wakelocks in the span of 2 hours. Sometimes it appears under another app name, but after the update it seems to have risen up extremely high and is likely causing the drain as the system shows GPS to be 2nd in battery stats.
I tried wiping delvik cache, system cache from settings, re-logging from google accounts, re-installing the google play services updates, and even enrolled in the GPS beta and am now using it. The phone is charging now and I will see if the problem continues in the next few hours.
If it does, I wonder if there is anything else I can do about it other than factory reset? I don't want to go there, but I definitely will if need be.
It's so tiring to see this issue pop-up on all Android devices I have had so far after 5.0 came out. It's like a plague that cannot be avoided with any device...
Did this happen to anyone else after the last update, or is it just me for some interesting reason?

OK, after the last full charge the phone is behaving quite well and now indicates 94% deep sleep, which is not bad at all.
What might have done it is switching to Google Play Services BETA. If you cannot find it in play store, use this link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.gms
Scroll down and enroll in the beta. Check the link again after a few minutes and hit the Update button. Charge your phone and see how it does.
I will have to observe how drain goes over the day tomorrow, but for now with 4g and wifi on at my home, I have 2% drain over 3 hours and a bit over. Wakelocks still occur but they are in the 0-1% range of waking up in this period of time, compared to the 6-7-8% of the net_scheduler wakelock from GPS the previous day. If it stays like this I think the problem could be marked as solved.
Update: After last night: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0Bwg-0GLG0gP9NDJQd2NYSkZ3V0U
About 2% of the drain was lost during me sleeping with WiFi and LTE on. Maybe GPS beta really sealed the deal.
