Google Photos Uploading Screenshots! Please help - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hi,
Since I moved to S8 my phone keeps uplaoding screenshots to my google photos!
I dont have the screenshots folder selected to be uploaded to google photos. I have also went to the folder (es using file explorer) and created a file .nomedia that still did not fix it.
Anyone facing the same issue? anyone has a solution?
Thanks

I don't think there is a fix in afraid, though I wish there was one. It's because Google photos uploads anything it appears in the DCIM folder which Samsung have placed the screenshots in.
The workaround I use is to only upload to Google photos only on WiFi. So if I know I'm taking a screenshot I turn WiFi off. Not ideal but it works, so I can then move the screenshot to another folder. I'm sure I could do this with tasker but for me it doesn't warrant the time to setup the profile.
Hopefully Samsung will change this with Oreo.

I thought I'm the only one with this confusion. With OnePlus 3T I can have an option to disable automatic upload of Screenshot folders in Google Photos. but in S8 I just cannot find it. Now I know the answer. Thank you.

****ed up from samsung really man wtf its messing up my google photos

are you talking about Touchwiz camera or AOSP camera? The picasa sign in notifications are from Google+ app, remove/freeze that.
It was the stock photo gallery app with the Samsung S5 SM G900 FD.
It's just called photo gallery. I erased it and replaced it with a different photo app. Now i lost some functions like attaching photos from a text. I need to know how to reinstall it?
Any ideas?

Correct me if I'm wrong but what you're saying is that you have not flashed any custom roms, haven't rooted and yet managed to delete the stock gallery app?
If that is correct go to settings>apps>app manager find your new photo app and click reset/delete defaults
I did root the phone which is why i was able to delete the stock photo app

Ok. Download stock rom, extract camera app from there. If you have CWM/TWRP backups extract camera app from them with winrar or your favourite archiver. It should also work if you download any touchwiz based rom and extract the camera app from there.:good:
Thank you! ! You wouldn't happen to have a link to the stock rom would you?
I didn't back it up with cwm because i was so annoyed by the constant sign in attempts that i thought there's no way i would ever want it back lol! I'm pretty new to this whole thing of tampering with system files and definitely not a guy who knows much about computers so as much info as possible is very much appreciated! !
Thanks! !

That sign in prompt is Google+ afaik not camera app. Anyway here's a link to a touchwiz rom for your phone, download it and extract the camera/gallery/photo app from there. Next time remember to always make a backup in recovery, you never know when you might need it :silly: :good:
Great thanks a lot! !?
Strange thing i extracted the system rom from that link you gave me. I can't find the photo gallery app anywhere in it. Can find everything else but that, any ideas where it might be hiding?

OK I found it, it worked, everything back to normal! I used the search tool and it came right up. Thanks again for the help, it sure is interesting to play around with these gadgets! Amazing to see the sheer volume of information that goes into programming one of these things when you actually get to physically see the programming. A world few people will ever get to see.

Is there a way to change the lockscreen paper?

Maybe it'll sound stupid, but I don't seem to find a way. It only lets me choose between system wallpapers, not from the gallery.
I have root if needed. Any help will be appreciated.

Hmm, not sure what the problem is. When I go to set wallpaper on the lockscreen it does let me pick from the gallery. You do have pictures in your gallery right? Just guessing. I am rooted. I also have Dropbox activated and when I pick gallery I see photos from Dropbox listed since I have not taken pictures with the Tab 4 yet.

I can only choose between "Wallpapers" and "Travel Wallpapers". So desperate.
I recently overcame this problem using the 'xposed lockscreen wallpaper' module. Not sure if i got it through here (xda app) or from the xposed installer dowload section.

Picture from Gallery just got completely lost after opening it

Hey guys,
i just did some photo editing to a few pix from my vacation trip. I opened one pic in particular from the quickpic gallery and from there choose to edit via snapseed. once i finished editing and returned to the quickpic original version of the pic, i got the message "loading failed", just to discover then, that the picture was completely gone from the dcim folder.
only the edited version is in the snapseed folder.
what happened here? did i just lost a picture by the way?
thanks.

You probably lost the picture, but you could try seeing if google backed up the picture.

Empty Gallery App

Not sure what's going on but this is driving me crazy. The stock Gallery app is empty and won't show any pictures. If I try 3rd party apps, like Quick pic (or file browsers), they work just fine and I can view the pictures. I'd really hate to have to wipe my phone and start over because one app could be corrupted. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also, if someone could extract and link the Gallery apk I would be grateful. Thanks!

[OOS] Screenshots not visible in gallery app after restart, but still in folder

Hi together,
I'm on OxygenOS 10.3.1 and I was wondering, why my screenshots are gone "after a while" which means I don't see them in the gallery app. Yesterday, I found out that this happens after a restart.
I checked storage and noticed that all screenshots are still available in /storage/emulated/0/Pictures/Screenshot but gallery app says 0 elements in screenshots. If I take a new one, gallery app shows only this new one, but on next restart this is gone in the app.
To sum up, all screenshots are available in the folder but gallery app only shows the screenshots taken during current OnOff cycle.
Any idea how to solve this?
Thanks
Daniel

Thanks for your response. There was only a .escheck.tmp file in the Pictures folder. In the parent folder of Pictures, but there was a .nomedia. After I opened Google Photo app, they are all back. By the way, also in Office Lense, where I had the same problem.
Thanks a lot.
