Hey XDA, first post here. I've been looking for a mid-range smartphone and I've decided to go with the Nokia 6. It looks like a great phone without breaking the budget.
However, when it comes to Android smartphones, I have one major requirement. I want to be able to use the Google Assistant. My current phone, the Samsung Galaxy J3 (2016), despite it meeting all of the requirements for Assistant, never received the update.
In my research of the Nokia 6, a few reviews and forum posts claimed that the Google Assistant was working on the Nokia 6, but others said they never got it (or it didn't work).
Does anyone here actively use their Assistant on the Nokia 6 (or has in the past)? If so, how well does it work?
Its already there, but only with a few language, you get him by 7.1.2 update.
I've only used Nokia 5 and 8 global, and it's available on Nokia 6 Global Variant.
If you decided to buy Nokia 6 TA-1000 from China, you can install Google Play manually - you know, just find Play Store APK from APKPure or somewhere. You needn't to root Nokia 6 TA-1000.
Remaining things are easy to deal with.
Well to be honest I just came back to Android after a long stint with my BB Z10.. having the Nokia 6 TA 1021 , it's a nice little phone and I've used Google Assistant quite a lot and it has ok and has worked fine..
I have the TA-1003 (Hong Kong/Taiwan), and Google Assistant works fine on it. Doesn't support a lot of languages though
Hi! I bought my Nokia yesterday. And yes, it's available in 7.1.2 (language Spanish, EEUU) TA-1039

Google announded Android M today... So when will we get Android M (Mars Bar) for Cricket Galaxy Grand Prime SM-G530AZ
After all the Android L is so yesterday and we only have some KitKat 4.4
Sorry to break this to you, but we most likely won't get it.
Why not. This is what gets me upset.. Microsoft with Windows 10 and apple push updates to the phone... Why can't Google handle android updates for the base operating system. Microsoft will be doing it with Windows update tool. It is a black eye that about a year later after 5.x came out most phones don't have it. Stupid crappie like this makes me love apple more and more.

android is very open, which makes it impossible for google to update all the devices in market to the latest android version.
Dude, I won't even get the Lollipop update in my country..

I am not a hater. I own a Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime and before that I owned a Nokia 1320, Nokia 635, Nokia 630, Nokia 5xx all on Cricket. Before that I used an unlocked Moto g 2nd edition, a Moto G 1st edition... I started about 10 years ago on Windows Mobile on a HTC Apache PPC6700 by UTStarcom on Sprint, then had the HTC Mogul, Palm Treo WIndows, HTC Touch Diamond, and some others... So I went back to Windows Phone and liked it but the applications are missing and no official google apps other then google search. I am simply saying that if Microsoft is now going to push updates to all Win 10 Phones then why cant google do it as well. This issue here with the updates taking over a year to get to phones other then the most expensive flag ship models is stupid. Now granted Apple has far less phones to deal with from the 4 to the 6plus but they do it as well... Microsoft does it with even the windows phone 8 devices from the developers preview program for $20... Hell i would pay google a small upgrade OS fee just to get them when google releases a new version. I would even wait maybe 60 days after the nexus gets it if i had to but not 1 year... Perhaps google needs to ban the custom skins and all and have everyone compete on hardware and look and feel of the device. and yes i do change my phone every few months after getting tired of it... But this Grand Prime is nice as it handles the encryption on the 64bit cpu and i dont see any real performance hit. For my 15 year old son I have for him a ZTE Grand X Max Plus that is cool but does not have nfc....

I hate Google too with this i don't care if there are lots of phones Google should make the drivers avaiable for all developers and companies so they can make some newer version of Android it doesn't have to be with all features just like Apple is doing for 4/4S releasing iOS 9 Lite that doesn't have all the features google should do this to all phones weak or old. But they don't give a damn.... :/
Should Google also lock down the OS like Windows Mobile is doing when it comes to the launcher
We should have massive protests over android updates... We should do a sit in at Google headquarters
Wow, this sort of ignorance must be what creates Apple fanboys. Android, unlike either of the mobile OS examples you gave, is OPEN SOURCE. They do not develop the updates for your device, that is done by your carrier our by the manufacturer (i.e. Samsung) at the carrier's request. Google does not develop the "drivers" you've mentioned, again that's the device manufacturer. Google makes the OS source and all APIs available to all carriers and manufactures. One of those parties, most likely your carrier, decides if they feel it would be advantageous to build (or pay for) an official update for your device model.
This is very basic information and common knowledge. If you don't know how it works, then obviously you cannot work it. Next time please Google before you bash Google.
I know the OnePlus 5 will *officially* be released today and should come with more definite information, but I still wanted to ask and see what you guys think. Is this iteration going to support always on voice with Snapdragon Voice Activation? A while ago I was thinking of getting a OnePlus 3T but what I read about always on voice support made me nervous. While it wasn't officially supported, some could get it to work and others couldn't. If Oxygen OS doesn't support the feature on the OnePlus 5, what about Lineage OS?
My phone upgrade path in recent years has been Moto X > Moto X 2014 > Nexus 5X (current)... so not being able to utilize the processor's low power voice listening would be a deal breaker for me.
I have a motobz play and this is something I would like to see as well.. Is extremely convenient to be able to say something beyond okay Google to wake my device at any time..
My money will be on, "No."
Google's strong hand against defragmentation, manufacturers can only launch new phones with Android Oreo
Since you have to put the batteries, make Flyme for our Meizu Pro 5 or let install roms by opening the code. Flyme skip if they want Oreo (you have a few months left) and start with Android P
Hopefully someone can make a ROM for the Pro5, because if not nothing, darkness with Flyme. Change of mobile in a year or two (with 4 already well amortized) :fingers-crossed:
Google closed Nougat certification in March, all new Play Certified devices must launch with Oreo..clic here :good:
Android oreo will come to meizu in 2029 don't wait.
Go and buy another phone because Google kicked Meizu's ass i think.
Totally agree!!
Meizu Pro 5 with Flyme dies:
Flyme 5 .. Android 5.1
Flyme 6 ..
- Chinese version: January 2017 based on Marshmallow (Android 6.0)
-Global version July 2017 based on Lollipop (Android 5.1)
Flyme 7 .. based on Nougat (Android 7.1.2), are there a beta version now, I think (May 2018)
Flyme 8 .. based on Oreo, far far away
Flyme 9 .. based on P, I do not think we'll see him in this life!!
------
PD:
Nougat .. June 2016 (Meizu level now)
Oreo .. Agoust 2017
Android P .. Agoust 2018
-------
you wait seated or better don't wait!
I've been observing that Meizu decided to abandon Global market and concentrate on local Chinese market. And it is not that they are very up to date in the Chinese market. Also abandon Android rate
Chinese versions (A): Flyme 6.3.0.2A (Android 6) (2018-4-12)
It's not stable. Battery drain. Many chinese apps (they are easily deleted) and Google Play Store is a simulation. *The applications hang, the firmware is not friendly with google apps, "No suitable appstore found" in some apps. Stay on 6.1.0.0A if you can! but it's very old version based on Android 5.1. You have to returned to the old version of the firmware, becase this 6.3.0.2A can not be used.
International (global) versions (G): 6.1.0.0G (Android 5.1) but from Flyme 5.1.11.0G Google Mobile Services (GMS) was removed....
Resurrecction Remix with Android 7.1.2. very good, the best we have!! Thank you, Faust93!! Good job!!
Meizu oficial firmware (that running ok) is on Android 5.1.. It's very sad!! No?
Ahahahaha Flyme 8 on our PRO5 ?!
More probable to see the end of this world before this happens...
It is frustrating when you spend a lot of money on an Android mobile and you see that the "little time" becomes obsolete. In the next mobile that I bought I will look for a very good policy of updates both by the manufacturer and by the Xda community. Technology is like that, in two years any phone is already very old.
In our case we have three options: settle for what we have, resort to the only ROM if we do not have money or buy a new phone if we have it.
That your Android phone does not receive the latest updates both system and security yes, it is very bad. I am against all brands that do not.
The easiest thing is to buy a new one, but I'm going to try to extend the life of this phone a little longer, at the moment it's not bad with Nougat, to see if a ROM release or a new ROM with Oreo comes out. I do not expect anything new because it is old and almost nobody has it. While It's working, I'll continue with him. I also do not like the phones with Notch
I currently feel that the purchase of this mobile phone has not gone well, how I feel like changing it but I do not want to throw away the 400 euros that the Pro 5 cost in the trash.

I bought a VERNEE X Pro 128 GB in February
Bit to ne honest, I stilo love my PRO5 and its camera
I bought a Huawei Honor View 10 in May, I will not buy anything from Meizu again. Now I'm happy!
guys, its happening, finally, you ca download flyme 6.3.0.3g from flymeos.com!
not that i'd ever buy meizu again, but wow, with this speed we can expect flyme 7
for pro5 in 2024!
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah!!!!!! How does it work?
yap,flyme8 for pro5,but it is android N
Even Meizu has android N i dont understand why only 7.0 not 7.1. Many app not compatible with this android version.
i have a qustion, for you one plus users..
im a pixel nexus user for a long time.
no pixel 5 xl this year. (BUMBER)
question is if i root the one plus device can i get all google apps . that i grown to love all these years. ????
i dont want to custom ROM . i could live with Oxygen OS
Yes, you can. And if you also root, you can get the Google dialer framework as well
Yes, a lot of google App's are included in stock os. The one's not included can be downloaded from the playstore...
Your thread says 9Pro, but this is the 8Pro.
I did not think there was a 9pro thread yet..
I was under the impression that some Google apps, are exclusive to pixel.
Like for example
Camera app.
Phone app.
Google assistant.
Calendar.
Digital well-being.
Live transcribe and sound notifications.
Just to name a few..
The phone and the camera app really are the only things that the oneplus doesn't have. The camera app is easily installed without root. I think for the phone app to work seamlessly, you'd need to root your phone.

Hi friends,
Background: I have DirecTV Streaming Service for my home because it offers 5.1 surround.
I HAD their mobile app on my Sprint Note 4 but before Sprint was purchased by T-Mo I was prompted to update the app in the Play Store.
When I tried a dialog popped up saying that my Android 6 Marshmallow phone was no longer compatible and that DirecTV Stream now required Android 7, Android 8 recommended.
If I successfully flash an OREO 8.1 ROM will the Play Store permit me to update my app or will they see that I am a Note 4 and deny me ?
And although YTTV/Hulu etc apps still work on Marshmallow they have poor audio for my home surround system .
No, it will only see the actual version of Android.
I actually flashed CRDROID Oreo 8.1 and was then able to download the latest apk from the playstore.
Installed and ran perfectly...
BUT, my WIFI connection repeatedly disconnected.
So did my bluetooth.
And my S-Pen was neutered.
Battery life abysmal.
Also, OREO was simply baffling to me.
Nothing like the Marshmallow that I am used to.
I wish that there was a way to "spoof" my android version and APPEAR as Nougat 7.
The Note 4 itself proved that it can run the app A-OK.
When Sprint died I just assumed that the latest Samsung offering would be better than my 7 year old phone.
So I bought a brand new A52 in August 21.
$450.00 wasted.
I hate it.
Stupid aspect-ratio results in black bands while streaming.
The display IS an inch wider (in landscape mode), 6.7 inches vs 5.7 inches.
BUT, considerably shorter (in landscape mode) which translates to LESS screen area.
As a result, typing is nearly impossible on the diminished keyboard.
No replaceable battery.
No S-Pen.
Overall, a big step BACKWARD !
<rant off>
Maybe try https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...experience-pie-trlte-tblte-trlteduos.3925885/ (PixelExperience 9)?
There are tons of roms and at least 1 will suit your needs

Thanks pal...I have only flashed the OREO I mentioned so I am a very green newbie.
I have seen positive comments about Pixel so I will give it a shot.
Android 9 > 8. Any apps for 8 will work on 9 (or 10 and 11 and so on)
Hi Gang,
I thought that I'd update my results for those who are interested.
I eventually got comfortable flashing the Custom ROMs/GApps and tried many variants from 7(Nougat) up to Lineage 18.1(Android 11).
I tried a Pixel Experience package with included GApps that was very nice but on THIS particular ROM the DTVS(DirecTV Stream) APK would not install.
I suspect that the very comprehensive included GApps somehow betrayed my device's true identity.
All the other ROMs that I successfully flashed permitted the installation of the DTVS APK and it streamed flawlessy on each of them.
I do not understand why Marshmallow 6.0.1 is no longer considered sufficient.
Anyway, in the end I was really enjoying CRDroid 10 but something I had not considered made this entire exercise moot.
My home has terrible cellular reception and WIFI-Calling is indispensible for phone connnections.
What I had not realized was that WIFI-Calling is associated with each carrier's customization and cannot be incorporated into Custom ROMs as it is closely held proprietary information.
And so I have returned to the stock T-MO ROM I started out with.
Like anyone else I must be able to reliably contact emergency services for police, fire, medical, etc.
So my current solution is to leave my Mint Mobile SIM Card installed in the Note 4 while I am at home.
And if I wish to stream DTVS(via cellular) while I am out and about I must transfer the SIM to my Huawei Mate 10 which runs EMUI 12 (Android10).
It lacks WIFI Calling so it cannot be my home phone, BUT, it streams DTVS perfectly on a nice 16:9 display (no black bands on each side).
Swapping the card is a hassle but it's the best option I could think of.
I hope other users can somehow profit from my experience.
Weird. The app is not looking for the phone model; it's looking for the Android version.
Correct !
I can only assume that the model and droid version are conflated since the Note 4 was last updated in 2015 (marshmallow 6.0.1) and no further updates were/are authorized.
And so if the app sees Note 4 it can only be 6.0.1 max.
Just guessing here.
I spent alot of time studying build.prop mods to spoof my version but that never panned out.
I feel like I need to restate this: it doesn’t care if you have a note4 and limit based on that. It only limits based on version of Android.
Weird that PixelExperience didn’t work….

In this comprehensive guide, we will show you the steps to spoof/fake the current Android version on your device to an older one.
droidwin.com
Trying to understand how this might work to make MY android version masquerede as a newer version that would permit the installation of the DTVS APK.
It appears that having rooted via Chainfire that I would need to unroot and then start over with Magisk.
Something about the stock boot.img being patched creating an obstacle to the installation.
Has anyone successfully installed Magisk while previously rooted ?
I tried and the app installs but two critical buttons are grayed out at the bottom of the app.
SU and Modules.
Anyone ???
