Amazon Ad Moto G5 Nougat Xposed and Magisk question - Moto G5 Plus Questions & Answers

I did some searching, however I was getting a lot of results not related EXACTLY to the my question and a lot outdated (since Xposed is just now officially working for Nougat). So I figured it would be best just to ask. I'm not asking for people to do searching for me or HOW to do these things, I can do that on my own I just want to make sure its all possible before I go and buy a new phone. My LG G3 is currently in my oven and I'm trying to fix it, its been a good phone to me but I don't think its going to last long.
I've been eyeing the Moto G5 plus. My question is it possible to systemless root with Magisk (I want to bypass SafteyNet) and also get Xposed working on this device? There are quite a few xposed apps I can't live without anymore.
Thank you.

You can get magisk and xposed working in the g5 plus, I was running both for awhile. However, I don't think it's possible to pass safetynet if you install Xposed framework since it modifies the system.

Can you just "turn off" xposed? I thought there was systemless xposed?

Yes, you can toggle it when you need to pass safetynet.

Just an FYI... NONE of these things are possible on an Amazon ad supported Moto G5+ because the bootloader is not unlockable... No root, no Xposed, no custom ROMs, nothing. You need the full retail version for that.

And that was why I asked, thank you... Apparently the standard version is cheaper on Amazon regardless, go figure.

Must be a sale then... The ad version is normally about 50-60 bucks cheaper.

So I can run systemless root with Magisk and systemless xposed also with the non Amazon Moto G5 Plus then?

On the standard retail version? Of course... even if purchased from Amazon. The bootloader is unlockable, Magisk supports the device, and Xposed supports Nougat now. Just make sure to backup before flashing TWRP (boot it and make a complete backup since we don't have current software images).
But you will never be able to do it on the Amazon supported version.

Does Magisk / Systemless work with our root?

In short, Pokemon GO's new update is just taking a massive dump on it's rooted supporters and we can't play the game on the new update. Would our root be able to hide it and allow it to played on our phones with root, still?
Rooted s7 edge.... Pokémon go running strong. No issue. App is up to date.

Are you on the new update with the buddy system? Cause the update didn't full rollout yet...

Yeah I am, but I read somewhere that Magisk requires an unlocked bootloader, but I don't know if the Systemless portion is different.
Most people would say, forget the game, and keep root, but I'd like to keep both, as I've put a lot of time into the game to have this crappy company screw us like this...
If xposed and Pokémon is incredibly important to you I suggest trying the following. There's a work around for snap chat. Same scenario. You have to install and log into snap chat before installing xposed. Get it to build cache so it doesn't do the device check then install xposed. Profit. I'm not sure but it's worth a try.
I had it working then it ****ed my phone up couldn't get it again

The problem is that the new version of poGo is using the same SafetyNet check that Android Pay does to check for root.
Apparently, the only thing that works for this is Magisk (at the moment).
The latest Pokemon Go app is using SafetyNet checks, so this goes far beyond the Snapchat workarounds.
Ah. I wasn't aware don't have the update yet

Accurate.
So the question is can we flash magisk with flashf ire?
Or would something like rootcloak possibly work?
More and more every day I hate niansh*t and it feels like it's no different than if crapple themselves have made the app.

Root Cloak won't work. I tried that on 2 different Samsung phones :/
I'm on tekx rom and when I tried to unroot via SU my s7 edge would only boot into recovery... so I restored a backup.
It's awefully silly to keep rooted users from playing. Seems like they run out of ideas to find GPS spoofers lol
I have rooted my S7 Edge SM-G935F using chainfire-auto-root ODIN method
^ New Pokemon Go update does not work with this root method - I have used rootcloak from xposed - also does not work. You need to root using MAGISK so here is my question.
1. How do I unroot my phone that I rooted using ODIN Chainfire-Auto-Root file?
2. How do I root S7 Edge SM-G935F using "MAGISK" so i can play pokemon go after this new update?
has anybody tried rooting S7 Edge SM-G935F using MAGISK method yet? does it work? please reply and please give a guide or step by step i am a newb

I'm afraid I have to tell you that over on reddit the developer of magisk said that Samsung devices are only supported if they're on a "custom" kernel.
Although I don't know at which point a kernel stops being stock :/

So... You're using the NEW version with the buddy Pokemon and able to use Xposed/Joystick as well and... actually login!?!?
If so... How did you do it?
I'm curious as well. I had to reflash back to stock due to bootlooping so I'm a little more interested in this subject now that the icy plunge or returning to stock has already been made.

Unlocking Bootloader now trips SafetyNet

Its been reported that merely having an unlocked bootloader now trips safetynet. Google has officially turned their backs on developers and enthusiasts.
I never had a problem with xposed or magisk tripping safetynet; but an unlocked bootloader is by no means a security risk. So I'm not happy having to choose between snapchat and an unlocked bootloader.

Well RIP AP....
Pixel and now this, I guess Google is becoming Apple 2.0
can confirm, I have unrooted stock 7.0 as my primary on multirom and is tripping safetynet, no more AP for me I guess since I'm NOT locking the bootloader, nice play Google

IIRC chainfire DID warn us about this..saying if we keep trying to hide root, they'll keep trying to make it harder for us to do so.
Doing it to the pixel? Fine..but to a nexus phone? Kinda murders the whole selling point of Nexus.
Either way elgoog has been making some really odd decisions this past month or so.
I have an unlocked bootloader with everything stock and no root and I got past safety net for Pokemon Go.

Yeah, that one isn't a part of this as its not unlockable. I'm talking about the Google Pixel.
This f's people who just want to install the latest factory image too; non power users who don't root and just want the latest OS..considering you need an unlocked boot loader to flash the images.

Not if you side load the latest ota files posted the same day:good:
By the way, does re-locking bootloader wipe data or internal? Factory image page says that "Locking bootloader will wipe the data on some devices. ".
Pretty sure on the n6, we wipe everything on both unlock & relock.

You can still customize. You just can't do crap that you probably shouldn't be worrying about anyway. Android pay is a sham, since your credit card has an RF chip in it that works on the same scanner... but ONE FEWER companies get to track all your purchases when you use it since it leaves google out of the loop.
Indeed; also as long as you log into Snapchat once before you install root, it seems to continue to work after root / magisk installation.
I'm on 7.0 stock, rooted and unlocked bootloader and snapchat works fine.

Amen.
I wonder what the hook is that it uses to check if the bootloader is locked...? It *must* go through the kernel, so maybe this is as simple as telling the kernel to LIE about it.
Well, that is simple conceptually, but not necessarily *easy* to implement.

wlan_custom.zip REQUIRED?

Hi,
I'm comming from a Moto G4 (not plus) to Moto G5+... I know that without a custom kernel with proper wireless support the WIFI has troubles when rooting. This is true with the G4 with stock firmware, and seems to be equal with the G5.
So, at time, when you root the G5, you need to apply the "wlan_custom.zip". However, this writes a new custom kernel module (.ko) in the SYSTEM partition. But, if you modify the system partition, then you lose the OTAs.
As I like to be in stock with a full SYSTEMLESS phone (with Magisk), I request if someone has a solution for the WIFI.
Can someone compile/patch the kernel for make this "wlan_custom.zip" unnecesary?
Thank you! :fingers-crossed:
Just so you know you posted in the wrong thread
Hi,
Incorrect 'forum'. My question is for G5+, not G5 ! :crying:
I did not applied the "wlan_custom.zip" and the phone works very well
Haven't applied or even heard of a wlan_custom.zip file and my wifi works as expected.

Hi,
Thank you for your comment! Two points:
1) I ask for the G5+, I don't know if G5 has identical problem.
2) This problem is when rooting: you lose WIFI if you don't flash this ZIP.

Never heard of such a problem with the Moto G5+.
I'm rooted on stock 8.1 with Magisk since I own the device, did a lot of research for it but this WLAN issue seems to be related to the Moto G4.

Restoring Moto G4 Plus (XT1644-US) so it can pass Safety Net test

Hi,
I had my Moto G4 (with the official Nougat 7.0 upgrade) rooted with Elemental using SuperSU, but it was then blocking some apps due Safty Net test fail.
Is there a way to set the firmware as something like "Brand New", I don't know, factory reset or some other possible configuration...?
I just don't care If I loose the data or root advantages, I just want to use those apps again, without having to buy a really brand new phone.
All ideas or tutorials are really apreciated.
Thanks

Use magisk for root, probably only this can pass safetynet for now
Also if some apps block from starting then under magisk hide just select that app and the app will work

does rooting phone make google pay not work?

I still haven't rooted my phone and installed a custom rom and it's been awhile since I've done that, being I came from OnePlus one.
If I root my phone will Google pay not work at terminals?

Magisk takes care of that. You should be okay with rooted and stock.
This is my first time using Magisk & systemless root. If I were to make system r/w, does that automatically cause SafetyNet to fail, making Google Pay unusable?

No.
If you are using Magisk SafetyNet should pass.
I'm just using a custom kernel and safety net passes. No Magisk only ElementalX
Google pay works for me with Magisk hide, safetynet passes.
If you unlock bootloader you must install Magisk to have Google pay and other payment apps working.
It's not only linked to root or not root, ASA your BL is unlocked your device doesn't meet the safety data integrity criteria for payment.

I rooted my 6T and have Magisk 17.3 on it. I used Magisk Hide on every App without the root Apps. Safety Net passes and Google Pay worked for me. Yesterday I used it for the first time in an Wasgau-Market in Germany and I was able to pay with it. Had a really funny look from the people behind me in line the Moment I hold my phone at the Terminal. Also the cashier said that she is wondering if it works. Was awasome!
