Is it possible somehow to get the floating button back? The pinch to zoom doesnt work on all aspect ratio media.
I saw that the crop button from samsung is called smartfittingservice and its a sistem app from sammy.
How can we get it to work back?
Yeah, the crop button worked for all aspect ratios regular and wide but the new pinch to zoom works only with regular aspect ratios otherwise it leaves two long black bars on the top and bottom of S8 which is annoying. I hope we get the zoom button back.
Yeah , no one else saw this, this is a big dissapointment, can we samehow get it back, those who are on oreo beta, please make a feedback to a sammy developer, we nees that crop button back....we cannot go full immersive anymore on all media with variat aspect formats.

Surprised no one has mentioned this, when I try to set a photo taken on the phone as the wallpaper, it asks me to crop a selection from the picture. After setting the wallpaper, it is blurry (in the same way a picture is blurry when you zoom in using gallery). I'm guessing this is just a bug that will be fixed in the next update?
When selecting the picture for wallpaper, Select an edge of the yellow box, and stretch it 'till you select the whole photo/as much as you want.
For some reason, multi-touch to zoom in here doesn't work, whilst it does on n1. (n1 running stock 2.2 [FRF91], and Galaxy S i9000 running stock XXJF3)

Hahahaha. God damn. I was wondering why it would only let me select a tiny bit of a picture as a wallpaper and thought to myself - "why the hell didn't they add in the feature that Rawat has just described". For some reason I had never even tried, I just assumed it wasn't there.
So, thank you good sir I can now apply a whole picture as my wallpaper
It's a retarded system. You give it the exact resolution and it makes you crop it.
If you use .jpg it seems to end up blurry not matter what due to poor recompression.
I've found using .png of the right dimensions works much better.
My setup is a folder of .png of 960x800 and "Wallpaper Rotator" to switch between them every x time.
Hey just wondering if anyone who has an LG G6 knows how to make youtube videos fill the screen. I was testing in store models of G6 and S8 and the videos on the S8 filled the entire screen.
I believe you can change the scaling on the G6. The s8 does for sure, however if you looked carefully you would have noticed when the s8 was displaying the YouTube videos and filling up the whole screen that some of the top and bottom (when viewing in landscape) were chopped off.
Scaling doesn't work on YouTube yet. I saw this in a review before I got my G6 and when I got my phone and tried to scale the YT screen, nothing happened. Apps that allow scaling have an icon you can click on to change the ratio. Swipe from the top of the screen and you'll see it. Not there with YT. Hopefully it will change soon.

interesting. I was definitely able to scale, with an arrow-like icon over-layed on the youtube video while testing the Galaxy S8... checked the version numbers on both phones; YouTube V 11.xxxxx on the G8, and Version 12.xxxx on the LG. Wonder if this scalability is a "feature" of touchwiz...

G6's unusual aspect ratio is the reason why - 18:9 instead of 16:9. (Not sure why they don't round down to 2:1, oh well!) But even when the icon is there, I've noticed that one game of mine gives three scaling options, but I can't measure the display changing at all no matter the setting. The only thing that changed was one splash screen while the game loaded (Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes) and who the hell cares about that. Otherwise, it's the same size at 16:9, 16.7:9 and 18:9. That's probably the only negative thing about this phone for me, although it's not a huge negative. I like it a lot and will keep it. Video today is produced typically at 16:9, I think a handful of streaming shows are now 18:9. So even if you were able to scale YouTube videos to 18:9 on the G6, you'd have to get cropping or mild stretching distortion? Maybe on a phone screen that wouldn't be too noticeable. I really don't know.
Like I said, not a dealbreaker for me. But I don't watch a ton of video on my phone and black bars don't bother me in general. But not everyone is like me, and I can understand this could bother people. Something to consider if you're thinking about this phone. Although the S8 has an even more odd ratio of 18.5:9. Maybe this longer format will become more common.

Gotcha. Then you're probably right about the software difference.
---------- Post added at 09:56 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:53 PM ----------
When you scaled the S8, did you notice any loss in video quality?
Not really, minimal if anything but that screen is so juiced with color (I like the LCD over AMOLED) that I'm not sure if I would've noticed.
I'm gonna stop in another store and give it a go.... see if theres something I was missing.
I have read on GSMArena that Google has given hints and helped apps devs to add scaling to 18:9 so that the apps can work properly with G6 and S8
Scaling works in YouTube Music but it pushes the video to the bottom of the screen leaving a big black bar at the top. Strange
For some reason, the software on the g6 limits manual control over app scaling to apps that were not preinstalled.
If you use the service code *#546368#*xxx# where xxx is your device model
Example: *#546368#*872# for T-Mobile H872
Then go to SVC Menu and scroll down to the bottom to find Force Long Display and set it to Enable, it'll force 18:9 in everything. You'll need to reboot after.
You'll still get black bars in anything that isn't formatted for 18:9, aka most videos and such but it won't default to lower aspect ratios for apps anymore.
I've attached a screenshot showing it.

Agreed!
Don't understand why you want to force a 2:1 ratio when the source is 16:9
The video will be stretched out, i'd rather have black bars and the correct ratio.

Found a solution: install uc browser open a video, make it full screen, then from the options menu select play with, and choose video player. It will play the video on native video player where you can zoom in.
Hello
I was very much interested in LG G6 and have even ordered it once in eBay yesterday and cancelled it after getting to know one information none of the reviewers have pointed it out.
I have heard that most of the 3rd party applications would show black border even in portrait mode because of the aspect ratio difference.
But I was also been told that applications would automatically utilise the entire screen at least in portrait mode.
I have also heard that LG provided scaling function is not of great help as well.
I am from India and I am not sure how much time it would take for the developers here to update their application for a new screen aspect ratio.
Please provide your valuable inputs.
I am upgrading from Nexus 5x
This model released just 4 months ago so expect little delay with specific apps but LG's scaling works fairly well in standard apps, I would say stick with ur current phone for few months.
Thanks for your kind reply.
I am using the mobile phone mostly for applications and in portrait mode itself and would watch YouTube videos also.
I am not using the mobile phone for gaming.
Can you please post some photos of the scaled applications ?
I heard that the navigation bar would be in black colour even when an application scaled.
Are all Google applications and prominent 3rd party applications support the 18:9 aspect ratio?
yes the navigation bar does turn black but it will be hidden under the app your are using in full screen and pull down on noti panel will bring back the navi buttons, so if u watch YouTube videos after scaling u won't see any back bar while in full screen.

You mean I won't see black borders while youtubing in fullscreen?
yes but only if the content is in 18:9 format, lets say if u resize YouTube app and the video is also coded in 18:9 format then the bar will be hidden, at least that's my experience on couple of occasions so far.
Hey friends
I really don't like the navbar which is reducing the screen to much, so I decided to install J Touch app from playstore.
Loaded a nice looking home button jpeg picture from the web. Give the button a one hit back function, a long press home function and a swipe up for recents.
Please see attached pictures navigating is nice and I whish I could even eliminate the navbar on the homescreen

No I don't think so. There is transparency setted, the button is popping if hitted and it is shifting up on home screen. You could be as scared or even more about a status bar burn in...
and look how much time is needed:
"Test Results
The iPhone X displayed burn-ins before the Galaxy Note 8 at 17 hours. However, it took 510 hours for the images to become permanently etched on its display which also marked the end of the test.
Compared to that, the Note 8 took 62 hours to show first signs of display burn-in, which is impressive. However, it had permanent marks way before the end of the test. The Galaxy S7 Edge showed signs of burn-in sooner than the iPhone X, however, it showed permanent burn-ins much later than the Note 8 and almost at iPhone X’s 510 hour mark."

I think so, you can also activate temporary move, which is helpful is s.th. is hided by the button. So you can move the button away for two seconds. You can hide button always in landscape, it is hiding when you are keyboard typing... it is perfect for 18:9 displays.
If navbar would have a one button control too, I wouldn't use J Touch.
You can also give it an iPhone look but ok I guess everybody is hating apple .
Edit: Ah ok you mean gesture. Sorry I didn't have this option until now.... don't know what is better
Looks like a nice app. I prefer LMT Launcher though as you can set it to do almost any task and only comes on the screen when you activate it so creates a really clean look with extra functionality.
Or you could try Gesture Control from Conena.. I'm very happy with the way the gestures work

Not sure. Not really a fan of stock. From other forum members, it's possible to disable it with the joneplustool app. Both that and LMT require root.
I've been using Swipe Navigation. It even has long press functionality. Loving it so far.
That looks bat **** ugly, why don't you just download https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.suphi.swipenavigation&hl=en ?

The very top of my screen is the Twitter bar. The punch hole is centered on that but obviously the screen cap won't capture it so I drew it.

You could also use Monument Browser which has had the same feature for a while, has a desktop application for windows and has a lot of features that are difficult to find. However it's a nice step for the Samsung Browser
most of the browser will make a black broder where the punchole/notch ist, so this is nice

This doesn't work with all apps. If the app has the capability the OS won't Force the status bar, otherwise the apps will continue to performance like they have before. Most apps don't support a full immersive mode because in previous versions of Android it was built into the OS and apps didn't have to support it.
Edit: I should rephrase that because I'm not taking into account the knotch area that didn't exist when immersive mode hit android. It seems immersive mode ignores that.

Samsung browser beta just became my default browser again. Wish edge would implement this. I was pissed when they removed it so now I'm a happy camper that they've returned the feature.
