Hi all, I have a 2012 Mazda 3 with an MFD, the stock Android music player shower the track playtime. I don't really use that app and mainly use PowerAMP. The MFD shows "Other" with the MFD, is there a way to make it display the playtime or maybe the song title?
Is there any other music app that shows info on the MFD?
Thanks

The responsible for displaying data on the mfd is the can bus
There are some apps responsible to communicate to can bus using private services from the head unit (not standard services from.android)
You would have to program a module that overwrite the music data on the headunits private services with the music data from standard android multimedia services (the ones used by almost all players)

I don't have the knowledge to do any of this, what I also noticed is, the radio app shows the frequency instead of the radio station name on the MFD like the OEM headunit...I hope someone would be able to come up with a workaround one day.
*bump*
Anyone have any updates for this?

Hi,
I have a Nexus 4, Android 4.3. I upgraded to 4.3 for AVRCP 1.3+ support. I am using my car head unit (KD-X50BT) to control the media player on my phone (Poweramp) and my phone stream the audio back to the head unit. This part works like a charm. :good:
The problem is that the song title displayed on my head unit is wrong. :crying: It is either "Stop", "Pause" or the title of another song. After investigation, it looks like the phone sends to the head unit the information from Google Play Music app instead of Poweramp.
- I have enabled the metadata option of Poweramp.
- Poweramp is the default media player
- I have tried disabling Google Play Music
- I have tried multiple media player other than Poweramp, even the app from JVC.
- I have tried installing Media Button Router.
Please help me to resolve this. Thank you.
I have the same problem, now that JB 4.3 sends info through BT, I've tried in my car and can only see song, album, artist title using Play Music, it looks like PowerAmp has a bug.

Probably more than Poweramp, since I have seen this problem with multiple Audio player. I found out this week-end that MusicXmatch does not have this problem. I can probably live with this player for now. I will keep PowerAmp for my headset, and MusiXmatch for BT streaming.
I've got a new Sony BT ready head unit, and it's not picking up any information from any of my players (PowerAMP, Google Music, or Apollo).
I currently with PowerAMP and Android 4.4
Had the same issue with Pebble and my car stereo (Titles not shown). After enabling settings-BT-Metachanged intent and send album - Artist in Poweramp settings the song title and artist is showing OK on both devices
Never worked for me in my kenwood car stereo but I assume its because of the stereo. Couldn't find any reliable info on it though.

I recently got a new car that allows song metadata to be displayed on the in-car dashboard when connected to my GNote2 via bluetooth, and to some capacity, yes, it does work. However, it only seems to correctly display the metadata when using the Google Music app, with other apps such as Grooveshark, Music Unlimited, etc. not displaying anything. Is there anything that can be done to fix this problem? My current ROM is Jelly Beans Build 1.
Nothing at all?
Works for me on the stock ROM, so this is probably more of a ROM-based question.

The stock Samsung music player displays metadata and offers full external control over functions (EG: shuffle, repeat). Samsung's own Music Hub doesn't show metadata. It allows external control of forward, back, pause, and play and that's about it. Like someone else said, it's app dependent as the (stock) BT firmware supports it.

Which apps work for you?
Hi how is everyone ?
Hi, I am currently using Shuttle+ music player. Is there any way I can get it to recognize the next and previous buttons on my steering wheel? If not, can anyone suggest a music player app that can do this?
There is a default music player on my android headunit, but I really dont like its UI, so I am trying to look for other alternatives.

Do you have a Rockchip cpu?
If so, download this from the playstore.. for the dualcore cpu: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.petrows.mtcservice&hl=nl
For the quadcore cpu: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ws.petro.rk3188.headunit&hl=nl
It's a app for the Ownice C200 quadcore cpu, but you can try it.
Disable your default player... Go to settings, go to advanced settings, select apps, go to everything (swipe to the left), look for the the factory radio app and music player app. klik on it, select disable, klik on ok. the factory app won't start up again.
After that you can handle tracks with Jetaudio or Poweramp from you're steeringwheel.
Good luck.
Thank you. I'll try your suggestion. I'm not sure what cpu my headunit came in with. I just got it last weekend. I'll try to find some more info about it.

You can install this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cpuid.cpu_z&hl=nl
Hi again, unfortunately the apps you suggested didn't work. I'm posting a CPU-Z screenshot of my headunit.
Tested and MediaMonkey works on mapped controls.
EDIT: sometimes in options you need to enable Always react on Controls.
Poweramp, Hiby Music, PlayerPro...
Hi all,
I have installed an Android 7.1 headunit in a car, I have replaced most of the default apps, but one I am struggling with is the Bluetooth media app. The Default app on the HU allows me to play music from my phone, but it has only 3 buttons on it, play/pause, forward and back, it doesn't give any track information, or have any visual indication that music is even playing, the device does support A2DP (and so does the phone).
I thought it would be very easy to find a media player that does this, but it seems not, now I realised, this app is very rare, its not usual for an android app to be receiving the stream, normally it would only send the stream. So wondering if anyone has found an app that can do it?
Also has anyone else ever replaced the default FM radio app on a headunit? I believe its not possible because its customised to the specific hardware but I am interested to look for an alternative to this aswell (current one has a bad interface and doesn't save stations if power is lost)

Also looking for this! anyone?
Bluetooth App
I completely agree. I just got an 8.0 head unit from Pumpkin ( px5). The BlueTooth App seems pretty basic:
1) sound quality is noticeably lower
2) app is buggy -- after a call, which was ended, the green call icon stayed in the lower right corner until I did a reset of the unit
3) no info about what is being streamed
4) UI of the app is really plain - not much color, etc.
Is this open source somewhere?
Same question here....
Waiting also!!

Hi guys, i'm looking for an online music player but can't figure out whats the best version displayed on chinese head units. Apple music is slow, icons are small, takes many clicks to play, search does not show partial results as you type (like on the phone).....all those make it hard to use while driving.
Spotify is also strange, has small icons, even on premium you can;t simply play what you save it always adds other stuff or skips to other songs.
how are your experiences with those, what do you recommend for driving? are there any special or older versions that have a better UI for our headunits? thanks

Your description of Spotify doesn't sound right. I have Spotify installed on 3 different vehicles with Android head units, and I have no problem with playing my playlist the same way I saved it. Are you sure you didn't forget to log into your account on your head unit?
Now, I used to have a problem with Spotify in the car wanting to play what it thinks was the last thing played on my phone. Sometimes it would show a pop up and ask me which source I wanted to play from, and others it would just play from the phone instead of the head unit, or switch to the phone in the middle of playing a playlist from the head unit. Even disabling the option where it shouldn't try to play from other sources didn't help. I am thinking it was a Spotify app bug, because it doesn't do it anymore.
I like YouTube music as most. I have a Premium Account and it works like a charm. It is also controllable through Google Maps and Waze. I like it.

I use Spotify also and I am happy with it although some of the buttons can be small and hard to press.
There is an Auto/Car UI you can switch to. It will auto switch also I believe. I turned it off so has been awhile since I've seen it.
