Does anyone know how to get the missed phone call or text message indicator to show up on the App icon? Example: On my S7 on the Text message icon, it would show a red circle with a number in it showing how many unread text messages I had, and on the Phone Icon it would also have a red circle showing the number of missed phone calls I had, and a red circle with the number of unread emails I had on the email App icon. Does this phone even have that option or support that.. -? I'm using the same Text messaging app I had on my S7 called "Textra" and on this Essential I could have 10 unread texts and you would not know by looking at the app. Thank you for any help or advice
I have the same question.

I didn't buy this phone yet, but planning to get it soon. So if you want icon badge as you explained above, then you can do one of the following:
1) Install another launcher such as Nova, Action or other. I used Nova Launcher and the option is there. (I just don't remember if you need premium ver. or not)
OR
2) Wait until Android Oreo(8) is released for your phone. This should add support for that unless Essential removes the feature(they shouldn't)

Thanks. Nova Prime is required for notifications. For only $4.99, it's a truly amazing app (must-have, even?) app!

What you are seeing is TouchWiz Home's badge provider...
Totally not available on Launcher3...
Go get Nova...

As I am new to Android I maybe missing something.
Does the OS notify you have how many voice mails you have. EG: If your blackberry was turned off for a while and some left you 4 messages. You will see the total number of voice mails on your phone.
Does android do that? Or does it need an app for that function.
an icon at the notfication bar will appear if you have new voicemail, but to actually see the number of voicemails, you have to pull down the notification bar.

OK..Well I must be doing something wrong or my phone is not setup right.
I just left two messages for myself..the phone gave off the two alerts and the icon showed up but no number indicating 2 messages...
I take you also have a nexus one?

there will only be one icon for each type of notification you have. to see how many messages you have you must slide down the notification bar (the white bar), it will show you a list of the type of notifications you have and how many you have.
yes I do have a nexus one.

Hi Melterx..I understand the notification bar....it shows the number of applications etc that you have downloaded....but I do not get two voice mail notifications from the two messages I left for my self...
Any ideas on what I may be missing?
I think you're simply missing familiarity with Android. Your phone is fine. Like Melter said... slide down then notification bar and you'll see details on each notification you have.
Can I just say I can heartily recommend HulloMail as an alternative voicemail system. It's free and in the market place. It will sync with you google contacts, sms and/or email you and essentially behave like visual voicemail.
Not affiliated, just a happy user.

When i get a message I get a notification in the notification bar, but when i open the text the notification stays until I click on the text bubble and the text is displayed on a black background. Is there anyway to change it so the notification disappears as soon as i open the text?
Thanks
Agree, this is annoying the hell out of me. One time I had 50 text messages (conversations from 7 people) and I had too many notifications. WTF is up with that. LOL
if u use back to get out of the msg app it will go away

True, but I'd prefer if the notification went away when I read the message, sometimes I read the message and go to the home screen and the notification is still there until I go back in the message app and click back.
use handcent messaging app instead. it works properly. Also use a custom home screen so you can set handcent as your main messaging program icon at the bottom.
hope that helps

You can do that without a custom homescreen too. When in the applications menu, press the menu key and then choose 'Edit'. You can move the apps in and out of the bottom bar just like you move other apps around, by holding your finger on them for a second and dragging them.
Nope, this doesn' work for me. I use Handcent and like I said, even after many text messages, all the notifications won't go away. Just have to "clear" all of em.
Very annoying indeed.
To clear multiple message notifications (per contact) you'd have to hit menu button -> More -> Discard
It's very annoying.
I'm looking for a workaround too. I really don't min this phone at all, coming from a Touch HD hehehe this is a major improvement (speed wise, screen wise, response wise even features are up there) but I do miss my custom energy cookie roms which brought my touch hd back from the dead a few times over the last year.

I also do this for the meantime I can start customizing my phone...
I think the best way to fix this is use Handsent SMS program and disable messaging notification.
so far the back button seems to be working lol (i used to press home)
Ever encounter if u receive a notification, the preview name and sender is different. Meaning if you go inbox and read the sms, its the correct sender. If its at the notification bar, it another name. Hmm. Wonder why.

What you should do is use SMS Popup to notify you of a new text message.
Without this is what I get when I get a sms.
1. SMS arrives, phone rings + vibrates or w/e it's set to.
2. I press home to turn on the screen, and I see a SMS notification, and a SMS notification on the lock screen.
3. I swipe the glass.
4. I scroll down the notification bar, or press launcherpro's SMS icon that has a badge that says 1 at this point in time.
5. I read the sms, at this point I have to...
6. Press back, this clears the notification in the top bar.
7. Go back to home screen, and click the launcherpro icon if I choose to use the notification bar.
The worst bit is that I could dismiss the SMS after reading it entirely in the drawer, or when I 'got' it and saw it displayed on the screen.
I'm pretty sure Samsung's SMS app is just broken and doesn't report intents properly when messages are still alive and read and such.
issue no longer there
I've tried to get FROYO going on my phone using the registry hack
unsuccessful but what I ended up with a rom that's fixed this sms notification issue when multiple sms's are received from the one contact.
Basically no BACK button or MENU -> MORE -> DISCARD
needed for the notifications to disappear. I'm only guessing that this is also going to be fixed with Android 2.2
My current version is:
Firmware 2.1-update1
Baseband I9000UGJH2
Kernel 2.6.29
Build ECLAIR.UGJH2
HI i justed returned a iphone to get driod x. i was wondering if there was a way to get number notification on the message icon on the main screen. lets say it had 2 messages , it would have a little number 2 next to the icon.
I believe Handcent does this.
I have these on my xdandroid (froyo) tp2 with launcherpro, from homescreen press menu, den preferences and dock settings. Then check the boxes under 'dock notifications' heading which enable new email/sms and missd call notifications.
thank you handcent does do it. do u know any app that would do it for email and voicemail.
AnderWebs released an app today called ADWNotifier that does exactly what you're asking for. You have to be using ADWLauncher, and it only supports SMS, Gmail, and Missed Calls at the moment, but more development is planned!
Hi,
I installed ADWnotifier and i want the missed calls to show only in my main dock phone icon. Now i have one notification in the status bar and one in the main dock and i have to click twice to make it disappear.
Any suggestions?

I have the same problem. Can't find where to disable missed call notify in status bar. Turning off missed call LED doesn't help either.
I had same problem and googled it... simple solution.
Call your cell from another phone, leave a message.
Then go into voicemail on the cell and delete messages... it somehow takes care of the stuck notification, even if you've tried deleting THAT message before...

I don't think you understand what they want done. They don't want the phone to show a missed call icon in the notification bar.
Seeing as how to get rid of the messaging notification was under messaging app, i would think it would be a setting in the phone app but the phone app has no settings :/
I'm using Nova Launcher Prime and Tesla Unread.
My email app unread notification badge works, but it doesn't work for my Google Messages SMS App.
There isn't a native unread notification badge counter in our settings, is there?

Be sure that you go into the TeslaUnread app and turn on Notifications.

Thanks, it was turned on, but I think what happened was that it wasn't jiving with an icon I was using on the homescreen.
The native icon within my app drawer showed the unread, so I just removed the homescreen icon.
As much bloat as Sammy put in here, there are actually far more tuning features in the os than I would have expected.
I'm still with the OP on Nova/TeslaUnread,
but I thought I saw a built-in notification badge function I may try at some point.
I have Nova Prime but I have been trying out the stock TouchWiz launcher. Is there a badge count in settings? I am wondering if Google Voice icon supports it as I am using that for messaging
Inaccurate SMS/MMS Badge Count
I have a OnePlus 6T running Android 9.0.5 (OxygenOS). I downloaded Evie launcher and i've had inaccurate unread badge counts for my SMS app since then; it seems every time a new group thread is started, the number goes up by 1 and never falls below that (eg, if i have 4 "unread" messages and a friend texts me, the number goes to 5 until i read it, but if i get a new group chat 5 becomes the new minimum number).
I've gone through every message and thread; i've deleted multiple group threads which are finished; I've tried clearing the cache and i've downloaded Textra which has the same problem.
Anyone have any ideas on how to get the count accurate?
