Just noticed that my moto x ( Rogers) was assembled in China, not the USA. As I was able to unlock my bootloader, does thus mean that the China units have the non encrypted bootloader or is Motorola pulling the wool over our eyes.
Just food for thought

I believe only motomaker devices are assembled in the USA.
I think they were all assembled here in the USA. They just put a China plate on it......

Assembled only means the parts are put together not manufactured AFAIK. Is yours a motomaker? Or stock AT&T or Verizon?
So if I understand correctly, moto x are assembled in China except motomaker.
What I have read is the moto x was assembled in the US, Motorola has made a huge deal about that fact.
I also assume the firmware is flashed during Assembly, this being said, I would assume the chinese version have a non encrypted bootloader and this is why I was able to unlock my bootloader.
I'm not a developer but the fxz firmware , do they have any files pertaining to the bootloader?

Pretty sure all Rogers Moto X are assembled in China. I have a flawless sample, no complaints!

Same with mine build quality is probably higher in China than the us due to the fact they do it all the time. The bootloader is my question

Rogers Moto X bootloader unlock is supported by Motorola and Rogers. It has nothing to do with where the phone was assembled IMHO. Even Sprint and US Cellular Moto X can be bootloader unlocked and so will be T-Mobile Moto X.

I got a stock AT&T (not motomaker) and it says assembled in USA on it.

you are correct but my point was that unlocking BL has nothing to do with where the phone was made or assembled. it's upto the carrier.

Yeah I read that the China units are for the rest of the world... Just for the stock varieties, it seems strange that that includes Canada...

How so? Moto maker isn't available in Canada, so why would we get US assembled devices? We do have the Queen on our money after all.

I have a non-custom VZW black Moto X and it has "DESIGNED & ASSEMBLED IN THE USA" on it.
So I looks as though all american carriers are caring the US assembled model and all other countries are receiving the made in China variant

Will this work?
It appears to support all the necessary radios/bands.
I would love the droid turbo (camera/screen) vs. the nexus 6.
Would be cool if the droid turbo (bought full retail) could be used on T-Mobile.
Any thoughts/comments?

I believe the Turbo will be launched for other carriers (T-Mobile/AT&T) as the "Moto X Play", from what I've read. This was based on FCC filings, but I forget where I saw it.

Seems like a better phone than the nexus 6.
I'm going to buy the 6 at launch but feel the 6" screen will be too big for me,.
-RR
I'm curious if the Moto X Play will be like the "pure" edition and will work on Verizon. It seems like the Nexus 6 will support all bands for all carriers, so there is only one SKU for that device in the USA, and a second SKU for international use.
If the Moto X Play is literally a carbon copy of the Droid Turbo but supports the additional bands, I'll buy it from Moto instead of VZW.
Only 6 days and 20 hours left...
Edit: I said pure edition, which is a Moto X thing, but really meant the N6 idea of having all bands on one device. Having the Turbo and Moto X Play is to get around the exclusivity of the Droid name, which is now locked up with Moto and Verizon only.
I think GSM version that visited the FCC might be called the Moto Maxx instead of the Moto X Play

Thanks! I was hot on the Verizon Droid Turbo but now I will wait to see if Motorola will come out with a Pure Edition model of it! Not sure they will however! Motorola seem to be giving out the high ends to exclusive tied U.S. carriers. Hope I am wrong! Love to buy a U.S. version Moto Maxx or Moto X Play unlocked 5.2" with the specs of the Nexus 6 inside!
I've been debating which phone to get and decided to get the G2. Was also thinking of S4. I would get a current flagship but they are all just too big. The G2 specs seem good with decent small overall size. I'm on straight talk via AT&T. I would like to load cyanogenmod on it. What model G2 would be best. The D800 or 802 or doesn't matter? Does either model have better Dev support?
Thanks

d802 has more support for roms. in stock.. but d800 has a patch that makes you run any non d800 rom on it..
so best bet its d802 just make sure dont get a refurbished with ls980 motherboard and imei and phone says d802. as it isnt it what the motherboard says . they sell d802 and come up as d800 too.
Thanks. What about the Korean version, good support? Would be nice to have SD card slot.

But the battery is 2600mAh so its sd card for battery... although you can get separate battery. Also the rom support for the korean is not as great as the EU (D802) version.

Thanks. Sounds like 802 is the way to go.

D800 should have the best band support for ATT. For example, it has the band 17 and band 2. I am on att network, and my phone spends a considerable amount of time on band 2, followed by 17. D800 is also cheaper, with ebay vendors offering it for $140 bucks..
Yeah just noticed d800 is a bit cheaper. I'm usually on band 4 on. Att do the 800 should be good with that right? Hmmmmm I guess if the 800 also has almost equal Dev support no reason to spend more on the 802?

Hi,
I'd like to buy a phone for my daughter (12y) and can't decide between the G4 Play and the E4. They are the exact same price here, and while it seems that the G versions are normally better than the E, the E4 seems to have the slight edge performance wise.
Can anyone enlighten me whether I should go for the G4 Play or the E4?
Thank you
Moto G4 Play is the better choice IMO, since it has a Snapdragon CPU, while Moto E4 has a MediaTek one. Snapdragon CPUs are generally faster, better-performing and more future-proof than MediaTek CPUs.

are you sure? everywhere I look it says Snapdragon (and a slightly faster one than the G4 Play)
edit: oh well, seems like there are 2 versions out there...
The Moto E4 has MediaTek, the E4 Plus has Snapdragon.
https://www.motorola.com/us/products/moto-e-plus-gen-4
"system architecture/processor
Quad-core 1.4 GHz , Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 427"
I think both E4 and E4 Plus outside the US both use Mediatek.
The regular (non Plus) version of the e4 (in the US) also uses a Qualcomm processor - Motorola's e4 page (full specifications near the bottom).
The international version (and the Plus variant) have a MediaTek processor. The international version and the Plus variant are also physically different from the US version, so if you buy a case online make sure you get the right one.
Some stores already reduced and cleared out their supplies of the carrier unlocked retail version G4 Play - Walmart had them for about $78 and Target had them for about $90, while the e4 is about $130.
For most phone apps they probably will work about the same. If picture taking is important (outer camera), the e4's camera has some weaknesses. Some e4 models have a fingerprint sensor, some don't. Both accept SD-cards, have headphone jacks, and removable batteries. The G4 Play comes with Android 6 (Marshmallow), and if you get the phone from your carrier it may or may not get 7 (Nougat). The e4 comes with Nougat out of the box.
What phone would be considered the next step up from the G4 Play? I'd like to keep it at $150, but might consider spending a bit more if it's worth it.
I don't care what brand, don't want a screen bigger than 5" and don't care about camera quality. I pretty much just use the phone for calls/txts, internet and music, so a nice speaker and microphone would be a plus.
Thanks.

Consider the G5 plus. Fully unlockable variants hover in the $200 USD range but will likely drop during local holiday promotions.

Is there a regular G5 or just the G5 Plus? When I google Moto G5 only the G5 Plus pops up..
I checked out the side by side comparison. How does # of cores/clock speed affect performance vs RAM? The G5 Plus has higher core and clock speed, 8 core/2.0 gHz vs 4 core/1.2 gHz, but the same amount of RAM, 2 GB on both. Will that improve internet load times, or is carrier and reception the only factors for that?
Also, it says that compatible 4G frequencies for MeteoPCS are 700 MHz and 1700 MHz while 3G is 1900 MHz. The G4 Play and G5 Plus cell band is listed as: WCDMA (UMTS) / GSM 850/900/1800/1900 / CDMA2000 1x 1900/850. Does the lack of either 4G frequency slow down the 4G LTE speed? I'm getting LTE 95% of the time, so my G4 Play still works.
Plus the G4 Play is listed as having Verizon for a carrier while the G5 plus has AT&T.
Would it be ideal to get a phone that not only have the compatible frequencies, but on the T-Mobile network, since that's Metro PCS's backbone. Or does none of that make any difference?

There are three G5 varients; only the G5 Plus is available in the US.
As for your other questions the best answer is to purchase from a distributor with 15-30 day return privileges. Then pop your G4 sim into the G5 and see how it performs. You may have to trim the SIM for the G5 and purchase an adapter for the G4. Good luck.
First time I will say this .... Totally agree with Davey; Moto G5 Plus is a lot better !

How would I trim down the SIM card and what kind of adapter are you referring to for the G4 Play? Also, for an additional $80 you can get 4GB or RAM compared to 2. How does this affect phone lag? I'd like to avoid dealing with a refund. Not only is it a pain in the ass, but you can only activate one phone every three months with metro pcs. I'm not sure if there's a grace period for phone activations...if I had to return the phone and buy a different one, I'm not sure they'd let me activate it.

The G4 Play uses a micro SIM (larger) while the G5 Plus uses a nano SIM. You can Google options for modifying the size of an existing SIM.
4GB of RAM would be most beneficial if you do extensive multitasking. 2GB is fine for most...especially on a mid-range device. Given your modest budget an additional $80 for 4GB RAM is probably not a good spend.
