What do you guys think the main changes will be from OP5 to the T variant? We all know about screen size, but battery, SoC clock speeds, or other changes are possible.
Personally I think it'll be slightly larger battery + the screen size upgrade.

It'll be definitely costing more than the OP5. ??
camera maybe slightly better other then whats been said i doubt there will be anymore changes then that since its just an incremental upgrade.

Well it sucks ! bought one plus 3 and after a short time they released 3t got that one too, Then came 5 got it too and now 5t? What are they doing ? i dont understand it any more. They are making smartphone after smartphone just like others do.So whats the point of buying now a 5t and sticking with Oneplus?? because with in 6 months they are going to release 6! they are going way fasters with the number to achieve 10 or higher i assumme? time to move on to another brand.

It would be nice to get OIS, but I don't think we will see that in OP5T. I think we will see Electronic Image Stabilization.

Yeah i do! I am an hardware engineer so i do buy always latest hardware, own at the moment samsung s8, one plus all the versions, lg v30 and so on. Thats what i do.
I really don't mind , had the 3 then got the 3T. Have the 5 and now getting the 5t. They ain't forcing us to buy it and me personally don't mind as long as it's worth and it the screen on the same body to me it is. I have the 2 XL but thinking about extending it for the 5T. I liked that original 5 THAT much. .
I'm getting the feeling they might have not had enough time to do any major re-engineering aside from the screen in the 5T
Apparently as far as specs go everything is the same except the screen is now 18:9 with a 1440p and the camera 20MP rear is no longer a zoom it now has the same focal length as the primary. Still EIS no OIS
Battery is the same 3300mah
According to an early German camera review the camera is basically worse in low light compared to the OP5
I mean basically you buy this one because you really want the screen since it doesn't sound like the camera is that much improved and with the more pixels to drive the battery should be the tiniest bit worse than the OP5 I guess final pricing is what's left but everyone seems to agree they'll bump up the price.
I guess this year we did get a surprise in that the OP5 vs OP5T isn't a straight up upgrade depending on your priorities you may still like the OP5 more (front finger print, slightly longer runtime battery, zoom camera slightly better low light although still bad)
and the OP5T if you really like the more modern screen, prefer fingerprint on the back, don't care much about the slightly worse low light.
And really if that's actually what happened this year then OnePlus would've been better to just list the two phones side by side as alternative models and a lot less people would've been pissed off (yes I know they can do what they want but there were a lot of angry people on here)
If everything you care about is the camera, you should probably better invest the $500 in a good DSLR. (I did.)
I always buy a new smartphone when the old one has serious hardware issues. Mine has now.
Well they fixed the two main defects with op5 the crap camera on a supposedly camera phone and the jelly screen.
A major change IMO is that 5t has no notification LED, that may be important to some users.what do you think guys?

I hope so. I think ambient screen wake is rather wasteful. I get a ton of notifications though. Would much rather have just a tiny led fire that too. Exorbitant while driving at night, with my phone in a mount, facing me.

Hi,
I want to buy a new phone.
I'm considering to buy the OP 5, but is it safe to do that with the issues with the screen (and can these be fixed)? Or should I buy another phone? (I'm looking for a phone with a fast CPU, and a great (preferably near stock ) Android experience. The screen has to be at least 1080P, and I don't want the phone to cost more than 500 euros. (maybe the 3T?))
Thanks in advance!
Robert D.
Yes, you should.
I think you shold buy Op 5. I bought mine two weeks ago.Not all the modells have that screen issue,on mine is barely noticable. And no there isnt a fix for that.
buy oneplus 5
these specs will be enough for next 2-3 years :victory:

All models do have it, it's just that most people dont see it. I can see it if I want to, but it doesn't bother me at all. Besides, the videos exaggerate it because it doesn't look at all as bad as it looks in some videos. I read it was something about how videos can only capture at a certain framrate.
Honestly, it feels like it's just a reason to bash on Oneplus
I thought my op3 3 was fast, was even overclocked and everything. Then I got a op5 and jesus it's waaaay faster than a op3 ?
Best phone ever...Oneplus is doing really well so far!!

Doubt it... Two reasons:
a) Buttons placement (alert slider and volume rocker on the same side);
b) Look at the "T" of the alleged website: font seems different

I'm feeling like it's pretty credible at this point. And yes although it sucks for those of use with a 5 already since they'll probably not be putting that much effort into updates anymore it's kind of their pattern now I guess.

Updates will be merged. If a 5T is coming, it will have the same hardware as the normal 5.
I don't see why they can't update both then since the only difference would be the bigger screen.
Will they put the screen in the correct orientation is the question. I still don't understand how they got away with calling the 5's orientation "normal". I buy 1+ because of the dev support, but that stuff rubs me the wrong way. Consumers aren't stupid. And they better not take away the headphone jack!!

Totally agree if this is what 5t will be.
Although I have to say: I'm not getting the selling strategy OnePlus is enduring. It's almost like they're discouraging people to buy the first iteration of the new product...
Besides that, last year they said that the "T" scene was circumstancial and that they wouldn't repeat it... I guess it's getting harder for OEMs to keep a promise, these days.
Sent from my OnePlus 5 using XDA Labs
sounds like they have been milking the OP5 sales to get funding for the 5T, which would explain why they are continuously out of stock of the 5 now. they are cutting production cost of the 5 to redirect funds to production of 5T
Yeah after this experience I definitely feel like I'm actively discouraged to by the normal versions and just wait for the T. At which point the OnePlus will be competing with the new iphones, and all the new flagships released to capture the holiday season. Along with the discounted flagships that were released july. It'll be harder to justify getting the T and basically anyone that follows OP will just wait for the T all the time now if it becomes a pattern. Why get the normal one when a better one is only a little bit away?

There's zero mystery left - that answers every question. For some reason, even though I thought I was quite sure to buy one, I'm not feeling it. Looks like cameras are exactly the same, battery is the same (3300mah) and just a larger screen with FPR on back. Damn. Might start thinking about HTC U11+ again.

Really poor improvement...
-> No USB 3.1 (Type-C 2.0 again...)
-> No IP67/68 Certification
-> No MicroSD Slot or 256Gb Model
-> No OREO for the Launch
This is real One plus 5T before launch
https://youtu.be/E3Bko4sBgmM
As you can seen above , there aren't any surprises when it comes to the design of the OnePlus 5T. Just as most rumors predicted, the handset looks a lot like the Oppo R11s, sporting a 6-inch AMOLED display with 1080 x 2160 pixels and an 18:9 aspect ratio.
The OnePlus 5T measures 156.1 x 75 x 7.3 mm and weighs 162 grams. Thus, despite its larger display, the new handset is not much larger than the OnePlus 5 (154.2 x 74.1 x 7.25 mm), and its thin bezels certainly help in this regard. Another design change concerns the fingerprint scanner, which now sits on the rear of the phone (whereas the OnePlus 5 has a fingerprint sensor embedded on the front).
Large screen and rear fingerprint sensor aside, the OnePlus 5T offers pretty much the same features as the OnePlus 5, including a Snapdragon 835 processor, a dual rear camera with Portrait Mode, a 3300 mAh battery, and Oxygen OS based on Android Nougat. Things haven't changed when it comes to memory, either, so the 5T has two variants: 6 GB of RAM + 64 GB of storage space, and 8 GB of RAM + 128 GB.
Is it worth to upgrade from one plus one?
As long as our Bacon keeps running faithfully, why would there be a reason to upgrade? It still runs anything we throw at it and has all the functionality most people need. Let's face it, how revolutionary is the smartphone market today? Cameras get upgraded, there's some more power, they get an exaggerated amount of RAM (anyone had any memory shortage on Bacon yet??) and so on.
That said, OnePlus still releases bang for your buck. But so does Xiaomi, Honor, Motorola, ZTE, Huawei... OnePlus may still have the best development community though. That would be the most important reason to stick with the brand for me.
So yeah, if your hardware is starting to fail, it'll definitely be worth the upgrade. But I wouldn't do it just for the sake of updating.
Sizzled with Bacon ?
I don't like the idea that it will come out with Android 7.1.1 and not 8.0.
This will cause unnecessary frustration to buyers. I imagine they have to undergo a period of beta testing until the Oreo update will be ready. Not cool considering the price and the time of the release.
Nope cause less then 6 month from now Oneplus gonna release another flagship and by then you will wonder why you bought the phone in the first place...what make matter worst is that every Oneplus phone since OP3 have only 4-5 month of production before it stop completely to give way for other model in their line up...that can be consider the shortest production timeline ever for a flagship

I also had the same mentality as you, until recent and i decided to opt for the 3t.
i once thought the opo was smooth, fast and still with it (maybe not with games but i dont play them)
I also thought the camera kept up as well as everything else, mate i even thought it charged fast!
Lemme tell you, everything and i mean everything has changed pretty drastic.
from fluidity to even how smooth the glass it. I didnt think it was possible but somehow it is!
Even OOS is slick. Was constantly flashing different roms on the opo trying to find a well rounded rom but every single one had at least 1 issue, whether it be using the CM camera hal, or if it had the notification bug (notifications didnt come through instantly when device was locked) or even if it was shocking battery.
NO regrets to upgrading :good:
I still love the OPO, checking XDA for it more than the OP3T
We should also consider that we are in the verge of a new era with bezeless screens, new 120hz refresh rate technology, wireless charging will spread rapidly in public places and transportation thanks to Apple, new more accurate & more power efficient GPS chips, devices that will support Android 8 out of the box will also be completable with Google project Treble, and maybe fingerprint readers under the display, so think carefully before you go and spend 600$.
Not having Android 8 out of the box for OnePlus 5T will make me wait for OnePlus 6 or take a better look at Google Pixel 2XL. What other phones have Oreo oit of the box? Thanks!
And here we have a way better view of the phone in a new unboxing video

Agreed. :good: . That 120Hz is a welcome addition to the market IMO. I'd love to use a phone with that smooth scrolling . Though, I am not sure about wireless charging. You can't use your phone while charging. That tech must evolve to an "Ambient Charging", or something like that :cyclops: .
Specs in that leaked set of photos are wrong. Both cameras have f/1.7 Aperture and same focal length, which makes no sense.
So, I doubt whether we should assume it has Nougat.
I was thinking of getting the 5T as a work phone and keeping the OPO with my personal sim card. Do you think it's a good idea? I was also considering the xiaomi Mi Mix 2 or Mi 6. Another option would be to buy another OPO for 120€, since I'm sure the community will continue supporting it for a long time.

EXACTLTY! That's why I bought ZTE Axon 7 for like 200 USD from China now. It has front facing speakers, amazing DAC and QHD AMOLED, OP5T has none of them. I had OP5 for a day and sold it - because of PenTile the screen IS LESS SHARP THAN OPO's! It was pissing me off so much I could not stick with the phone, OP5T gonna be the same. Big things are coming, better wait for them if you can - especially Treble and this 120Hz displays - they say it is whole another level of fluidity. My Axon will be arriving in two weeks or so, and is getting official Oreo in December, it has official Lineage and others too. Perfect device for to wait for OP6/OP6T.

You say that like my phone's going to explode. The original cable is about 70cm and only charges 100ma faster than my 3m cable so I'll probably stick to the long one for now. I'm fairly sure the original plug was only putting out 0.2A last time I used it (and I can't find it) so that's also a lost cause. I'm not sure why the original charger would be so much better anyway. USB is standardised so I assume the recommendation is just Oneplus trying not to get sued for other manufacturers' dangerous chargers.
I'm a bit promiscuous when it comes to cell phones and I'm getting pretty tired of my 5T, it isn't that it lacks, I am as I said a bit of a hoar when it comes to phones. I know I'm not alone so what say so you folks about the 6T? I hate notches which has prevented me from bolting this far but it appears this one will be tiny. On the fence about it although I know I wouldn't touch it if there was a credible alternative sans notch. Anyhow, discuss.
Notch is notch IMO no matter is tiny.
DOA to me.
I will wait OP7 probably OP will get rid off completely notch and adopt truly bezel less design like their cousins Vivo Nex S and Oppo Find X.
Also 855 Snapdragon would be tempting too as first 7nm SOC from Qualcomm.
That would be truly upgrade compared to 5T
I’m skipping 6T 100% that for sure for me.

I am probably ditching OnePlus for once and all. Official updates are very disappointing, no fix for oil paint camera and statusbar header still looks ugly. It is like they want OCD people to switch to newer phones.
I may be buying a pixel 2 xl or the ugly pixel 3 xl. Im so sick of the 5t camera. I never thought camera quality mattered to me. It does now that i have crappy video and pics of important events that i can not take back. I cant zoom in at all without everything looking like an oil painting.
You will be hard pressed to find a smartphone camera that you can zoom on, sir... Digital zoom is fundamentally based on sacrificing quality.
Dito, a notch is a no buyer...
I eyeballed the Find X, still giving it some attention but there is no proof of an unlocked bootloader and ability to root yet. No root is a non starter for me and I've been burned before on phones I thought would get root but didn't. Love the design though; it's different, flawed, but different is good. And yeah, that notch on the 6T... *Heavy sigh*
I hope 2019 android phone may change much.

I'm okay with the notch but the lack of vibration strength on the 5T (my first OnePlus) is killing me.
And supposedly the 6 has the same (or less) vibration strength.
I have to set my phone to do three long vibrates on all notifications and even then I sometimes miss them when it's in my pocket.
I'll likely keep it till some good ROM's drop for the Pixel 3 XL (whenever it arrives).
Then I'm gone.
And it sucks because I really like the 5T.
It's a damn good phone.
Just one little deal killer for me.
The only way I'd ever buy a phone with a notch is if we have the option to hide it like on the 6 (a coworker has that phone). Honestly, the 5T running OpenBeta still runs pretty fast compared to this year's flagships
I would suggest to wait for Pixel mid-budget phone which will come early next year
https://www.neowin.net/news/leaked-...display-fingerprint-sensor-for-the-oneplus-6t
The notch is like r17's one. I think I will buy the 6T, especially if it ends up having an in-display fingerprint scanner.
I just swung by to mention the scanner; rumor of it's inclusion are getting more credible now and that's a serious check-mark in the plus column for me. I use my phones on the desk often and it's annoying as hell to have to pick up the 5T to get it lit up making it easily my biggest dislike for the 5T. Still pretty sure I'm not going to make friends with the notch even in it's expected minimal state but whatever, I'm a phone dude, buying the 7 or some other phone 6 months later would just be situation normal for me.
Interesting rumor about the 3XL being sans notch and it's all been misdirection with the huge one shown in the various "leaks." Getting a little more interesting out there...

Yep, more like lsd tripping...
Hello everyone,
so my question is what phone to choose?
Each one of them are great phones and I can't decide which one to choose.
Maybe someone will help me to choose?
Mi Mix 3 seems nice. I think id rather have the oneplus software. Also I wasn't always a fan of the notch but id rather have a notch than a mechanical sliding mechanism for a camera and ear piece. So for me the choice was easy. Oneplus.

Yeah, OnePlus' software also speaks to me. I am already acknowledged with it so I know what can I count on. Smaller battery (3200 mAh) on MIX 3 doesn't encourage me to buy it too but this notchless screen just makes me think twice before choosing which one is better. Wireless charging is a nice addition too - unfortunately 6T doesn't support it :/
Man it's really difficult for me to choose "better" one

Personally, I would rather have ceramic than glass. Notch is history. Technology is still developing, but the slider technology has been around since the days of the Samsung/Tmobile Sidekick. This has been a tried and sucessful technology, so there isn't a lot to worry about when it comes to failure. All phones have their drawbacks.
Mi MIX 3 doesn't work on Verizon.

I'm not from US nonetheless I would have to wait for global version of MIX 3 if I would decide to have one

Yes, it does. The 'upper shelf' version(256GB) in regard to storage, has 12 lte bands out of all 14 used in the US.

So, not everyone uses Verizon. In fact, most of the world doesn't use CDMA, but rather GSM.
if i'm not mistaken the mi mix 3 has a very good dxomark score which is the only reason i would consider it. of course i'd consider the mate 20 pro as well but can't afford a $1200 phone
I only worry because of the battery size on MIX3 do you think that 3200 mah is sufficient?
I actually like the slider camera on the mi mix 3. I'm only considering the op6t because it seems more busy here equals better development.
Battery has never been a problem for me on any device since froyo and gingerbread.
I'm going for the OnePlus 6T because I like the small notch, 3700 mah battery and the OxygenOS Software.
I'll keep it for 3 years and at that point will definitely consider Xiaomi Mi Mix 6 Vs OnePlus 9T

Mi Mix 3 already has great developers lined up so rom support won't be an issue.
The battery is a bit off putting. Many of us here are reporting 7+ hours of SoT with the 6T. I heavily doubt you'll be able to get similar results with the Mi Mix 3 considering its battery capacity.
If anything, the Huawei Honor Magic 2 looks more appealing. In screen fingerprint scanner, wide angled lens, bezel-less screen, 3500 mAh.. if that phone had the same dev support as the 6T, I think it'd be a serious contender for us.
I had the same questions
Mi Mix3:
- no notch
- better camera results
- sexy af
OP6T
- in display fingerprint reader (this is what finaly made my decision)
- water resistance
- will be supported for years
- easy root with warranty
- bought from amazon, so in case of warranty issues this is not an issue
- bigger battery

DEV support will be a problem and so will root. With locked bootloader your are at the mercy of honor for updates.
Also lots of LTE Bands missing!
