Need help, no OS installed. - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

First of all, I'm rather new to android, considering I've been using iOS for a long time, until I got a samsung galaxy s8. Today, I decided to root my phone and I did. It went well, but after the first restart it went to recovery mode, in my case it went to TWRP. Every time I tried to reboot to system it just went back to TWRP. Then I tried wiping and once I pressed reboot it said there is no OS installed, if I did reboot it would just bootloop. I have run out of ideas on what to do and I would really appreciate some advice here! :fingers-crossed:

Download a twrp flashable rom for your device place on sd card and flash, Or use odin and restore your devices stock firmware.

Yup. Download, put on your SD Card, put SD Card in phone and reboot recovery.
You wiped a little too much and didn't install an OS...
Maybe be more careful before just wiping random stuff.

Quickest way.. download Smart Switch on your Windows 10 PC from Sammy's website. Connect the phone and type in it's model and S/N number. It will download the correct stock firmware for said phone and take care of the rest for you.
EDIT: Oops you can get into recovery. Yeah like they said transfer a rom to your SD card, or if you download the quick ADB setup you are able to connect the phone while in TWRP to your PC and can transfer files that way.

I have been updating the CM9 nightly for a while, didn't have any problem. But when I tried to flash 02-17 nightly, I messed up and in the middle of the install (flash), I hold the power forcing to reboot. Now, it keeps going loop back to the CW recovery screen every time I tried to reboot.

Had you flashed CmWR into eMMC?

@Dizzyden, thanks for the tip.
I did repartition to 1g/5g awhile back. I am not sure where to start. 12paq tried many things, which one was the solution? Your rombackup.zip?
Many thanks....
@votinh
what do you mean? I am not using the N&O apps or OS. Pure CM9, therefore I guess it is flashed in eMMC. If not, please advice.

Finally, with the help from the good people of this forum, I was able to restore back to B&N, and reflash CM9 from there.
Thank to you all.
Yesterday my nook color was working great. Today I turned the screen on and it hung. Now I'm having the above problem with it hanging at clockwork recovery.

Install the google drivers for adb... if you are in CWR adb is enabled... just have to get the drivers loaded on your computer.

It may be that your "boot to recovery" flag is set, and if so, it will always boot to that until it is cleared. When the cyanogenmod logo comes up hold the n button until the boot menu comes up. Then choose boot to emmc. If it works, go to ROM Manager and flash a new CWM Recovery to emmc.
Welcome to the nightmare I lived last week. Don't worry I woke up, was able to fully recover and forget the dream ever occurred.
I to tried to reformat to 1gb/5gb and ended up in the same boot loop.. If you are in the same spot I was, your boot partition got wiped out. And you may notice EMMC is gone.
After much searching I came across a file... Looking....Looking...Looking...
..........................Ah yes here it is. Here is what worked for me.
1. Boot to recovery (Should be easy at this point)
2. Format System, Data, and Cache.
3. Install the attached Zip file. (RecoveryFix.zip), this should recreate the Boot partition and fix the EMMC.
4. Reboot to recovery
5. Install favorite Rom or restore from backup.
6. Reboot to test.
Again this is what finally worked for me, and I went through a lot of trial and error to get there. I am guessing at your situation being exactly the same as mine.
PS. Ignore my since of humor if you need to.

Cant get Vibrant to start help plz!

Ok i was on ICS passion then all of a sudden my phone said something about encryption an that it had failed an only option was to reset phone so i hit reset then it went to recovery mode an green android came up with chest open then error message happened an so i booted in to recovery then i try to go in sd an it would not allow me to so i then tried to odin an flashed then i powered on it gies to vibrant screen then it just shuts off so i then flashed Eugene froyo that does not brick then it takes me to stock recovery an says an i cant click on anything in recovery can only move -- movi_checking done!...
update media, please wait
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
(No such file or directory)
E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount SDCARD:
your storage not prepared yet, please use UI me
nu for format and reboot actions.
Here are instructions i have followed an no luck http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1043892
Ok I think you got some extra cache or some other piece of data that did not get wiped. either way, do this in this sequence and you should be ok
1. Download Eugenes 'Froyo that does not brick' file.
2. Extract the files.
3. Open Odin, plug in your phone, then put it into download mode.
4. load the PIT file in appropriate area.
5. load the .tar file in the PDA area.
6. DO NOT check 're-partition'.
7. Click start, let it finish. Your phone will load and reboot into stock recovery. It will error out again. DONT panic! This is what's supposed to happen.
8. Now, pull your battery.
9. Load the JFD rom for the vibrant'.
10. Extract the files.
11. Once again, open Odin, plug in your phone, put into download mode.
12. Load the PIT file into the appropriate area and the .tar in the PDA area.
13. THIS TIME you want to check the 're-partition' box.
14. Now click start, let it finish, and this time your phone will load up just fine!
15. Then, root the phone and you can flash your new Rom.
doing this method will get everything back to normal and the phone will work just like it did right out of the box
It is #7 that is important when it reboots into recovery after froyo that does not brick then pull the battery and go back into download mode and flash the JFD, This will clear everything out and put you back into stock
Good luck
Got it started
I got it booted though a very hard process an now i cant get my sd card to mount it says when i go into anything media related it says "Your phone does not have a SD card inserted" an Externel dont mount either

Don't use eugene's rom, since you were using an ICS rom follow these steps
flash froyo bootloaders
flash regular jfd and TICK REPARTITION ( ICS/CM7/CM9 change the partition layout and you need to flash correct partition table for stock rom to work )
back in bussiness.

Hey Jason. I'm in the exact situation you're in. Loaded Passion for about 1 week, got the encryption screen and was forced to reset. Now my SD cards (internal and external) won't load. Have you found a work around for it yet? Cheers Mate.
nope nothing
either of you find a solution? Im having same issue
In the same boat
I am in the same boat. I was using the Euphoria ROM. Yesterday things slowed down on the phone. I rebooted a few times and it crashed. The last couple of times it told me about the encrypted data. That was when I tried to take it back to stock and it won't do anything now other than boot to the vibrant logo and shutdown. Searching for a way to odin a ROM/Kernel that has a CWM recovery so I can go in and manually format the SDcard.
Do what I did, sell it to someone as a wifi hotspot and buy yourself a hercules. You'll never look back

Webstas- Just out of curiousity, were you trying to mount your phone to your computer while on ICs when this happened? I have a theory that I believe I know why this is happening. Just need you to see if you remember a few weeks ago and if you had any problems mounting to your PC and then your next reboot you got the Ecnryption Error.

no i got up an took a shower then came back it gave me an encryption error then i odin back an more trouble odined a couple more times an now it boot loop an also wont start with eugenes froyo
I know it has been awhile but think back. Were you mounted to your PC at anytime between your last reboot and the Encryption Error? Doesn't have to be right before, the error gets throw on your "next" reboot. And as you know, reboots can happen manually or for something as simple as wrong UV settings.
Looking back in this thread, I saw that you got it to boot up. See if you can do that again and then mount your External via ADB and you should to push the proper commands then. Pretty much your internal is hosed, but me and a few others are working on that too.
Can't get it to boot it makes it to Vibrant screen an shut off an on Eugene"s froyo it gives me a couple of errors an I just can't get it to start anymore it there anyone who has encountered this an got it fixed like I really need this fix I am using a blackberry please save me
YAY
I got it fixed but now im on step 13 of that guide where you have to use ADB an i cant get the phone to show up on my PC what drivers do i need i already have Vibrant drivers but still nothing an the usb works its a samsung USB so can anyone help me with ADB
I am having a similar problem. Was running ICS 4.0.3 w/Euphoria without issue until this morning. Got a couple of errors after a normal recharge. Pulled battery and rebooted, but is stuck in boot loop. Cannot access either recovery or fastboot screen. Vibrant logo flashes and release buttons, but never enters mode. Then cycles to Android screen and would likely stay there until battery died. This is primary phone and need to put back into service quickly. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

[Q] Bootloader Ics v3.14.8 + Recovery Twrp v2.1.3, after you hit install?

Hey all! I've been lurking around XDA for years for various devices. I'm good with computers but newer to Android/Linux. And I don't have much of a programming background. I have done some installing of custom ROMS on a phone of mine and even dabbling in a kitchen some. So it's not totally foreign to me.
I've been reading about custom ROMS on and off for a few months thinking about installing a custom ROM. And then actually reading and researching it the last day or two. Since we're not going to get Jelly Bean I decided finally to update to a custom Jelly Bean ROM. I am finding all the information very unorganized and very spread out. And not very comprehensive. Which is making it hard to get a good grasp of everything. Things like what SKBs are and APX mode. And exactly what processes you need to take to install which ROMS. If you need to install a kernel or it does it automatically ect. Very confusing! I thought I had figured out enough to do it.
On my A500 I had the latest Acer ICS OTA update but rooted. I want to install the CM10 Jellytime ROM. I did a factory reset. Using AfterOTA v1.09 I installed first "Bootloader Ics v3.14.8+Thor v1.7.3". Then after that I changed to "Bootloader Ics v3.14.8+Recovery Twrp v2.1.3. It seemed to work fine. I got into the bootloader. I have the Jellytime ZIP file on my external SD card. The first time I think I just clicked install, picked the ZIP and did the swipe to install. Which brings me to my big question. What is it supposed to do after that? It just went back to the Recovery boot animation and back into the recovery without seemingly doing anything. If I rebooted holding the Vol-, it would just go into Recovery and not flash anything. If I just let it boot it would boot the factory ROM. The Thor recovery did something similar.
I then did the wiping/formatting of all of the cache, factory resets and system. And when I tried to install it again basically the same results. Except now it won't boot into the factory ROM since I wiped the system. Which will also not let it connect over USB and to the AfterOTA. If I turn it on holding the Vol+ and get the boot menu and pick the fastboot it tries to do the fastboot but just hangs on the Fastboot notification.
I've been searching and reading but can't figure out if I didn't do something I should have or missed a step. Any help would be appreciated.
Ah! I figured it out! I didn't realize that even though you're using a custom recovery program that you still have to name the ROM file "update.zip". I thought that might be the case but couldn't connect the tablet to the computer via USB and didn't have an SD adapter to connect the card to the computer and change the name. I ended up getting a card adapter. After I changed the name it worked.

MOTO X PURE (XT1575) does not power on

Hi, i have my phone rooted since last year, has Android 5.1.1. and today appears me a new software update to download, i tried to install it and my phone rebooted but the image of TeamWin appeared and desappeared too many times, i decided to turn off the phone then turn on again, the phone turned on well but past 20 seconds turned off again, i did the same process like 5 times with the same results. I decided to put it on recovery mode and wiped cache, symtem and data then reboot the phone but just appears the image of bootloader unlocked warning because of the root and does not want to turn on correctly.
Anyone who can help me please? ... i am new with Android and sorry for my english, it is not my main language.
thank you so much...
The same thing had happened to me last week. I had to flash back to complete stock using fastboot.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/development/pure-firmware-tuff-wip-t3224833
That will give you a link to files and instructions. There is an automated script, but it would not work for me, and I had to copy and past each fastboot command manually.
It does wipe everything, and if you have your sd card formatted as internal storage, it will wipe that as well. But if it will not boot up, there is no other choice.

Samsung J5 was rooted, did factory reset now I'm lost

Hello,
Like the title says, I have a Samsung J5, I rooted it as soon as I got it maybe a year or so ago.
I never had any issues with it. This morning, however I made a (now in hindsight) bad decision by factory resetting, dont even ask me why I thought I needed to factory reset it, I already did it.
Anyways, I did the factory reset from the phone and it instantly rebooted into TWRP, and here's where I got lost. I don't know what to do from here.
I assumed the phone would just reset itself, but it always reboots in recovery mode.
I thought maybe I had to flash a ROM again (I flashed a custom one and then stock back when I first rooted it, but my memory is terrible and I just have faint memories of it), I looked that up and found I needed Odin, the stock rom I wanted to flash and to reboot into download mode. So I got all I required and I don't think Odin is finding my phone.
My phone just has the blue screen saying downloading... and do not turn off target. Nothing else. and Odin doesn't show anything (I think it's supposed to show the device somewhere? Anyways, I'm super lost and I have no idea what to do.
I mostly just need someone to point me in the right direction, maybe some instructions I can follow or something, I'm not super experienced as you can tell but I can follow basic instructions when I'm not being dumb.
TL;DR: Did factory reset on rooted J5, now it only boots into TWRP, no idea where to go from here, stock rom flash?

Try factory reset in TWRP under "wipe" and try rebooting then.
If that doesn't work download a rom from xda for your device onto an sd card. Then put the sd card into the phone, Reboot into twrp and flash the ROM.
The reason odin isn't picking up your device is more than likely USB debugging isn't enabled which you can only do from inside the phones settings. Enable it once you flash the new rom and then flash your old firmware using odin afterwards if you wish.
Do you know what model it is?
Or even what year model it is? 2015?/16?/17?
If you can boot into twrp you have nothing to worry about as it can be easily resolved

Hey
I have already tried doing the factory reset from TWRP, but when I reboot after that it goes back into recovery mode, if I try to reboot from recovery mode into system it just goes back to recovery mode as well.
I'll try downloading another rom, I got the stock one in there but it doesn't flash it from TWRP, which I'm pretty sure is expected behaviour anyways.
The model is SM-J510MN 2016, I'll start looking for a rom.
Thanks

You can't flash the stock rom in TWRP because it is a .zip.tar file and twrp can only flash .zip files or .img files

Yeah, I may or may not have already tried hehe.
You wouldn't happen to have a rom that's not being hosted on Mega would you? I exceeded my limit when I was 95% done downloading one of them.

Yep, I tried that, although I'm not sure the USB drivers I downloaded were correct, since the official page isn't working at least for me. So I downloaded what the websites claimed were the correct drivers, I went into download mode that way, which has some debug info on the top left stating it's in Odin mode, but Odin still didn't recognize it.
I'm pretty sure usb debug options were turned on before this, but I'm not sure if the factory reset could've messed with that, thought I'm assuming it could be part of it.
I'm currently trying to download some custom roms to follow garylawwd's advice, I'll reply once I've got results.

Uhm, so after doing that I flashed the latest twrp version (I had 3.0.2 or something), rebooted after flashing the image, did a wipe from there, rebooted and it now didn't boot into recovery mode but instead I'm now on a white screen with the samsung logo in the middle looping from light grey to black. https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...nt/recovery-twrp-3-1-2-blue-dogerino-t3768707 Try flashing this recovery it's a newer version.Just download the .img file and install it through twrp as recovery when prompted.

So I downloaded one, wiped everything, installed it via twrp, it apparently installed it correctly, rebooted the system and it went straight into recovery mode again. It's not letting me reboot into anything that isn't download or recovery. Any other ideas? Am I doing something wrong?

Why would you try a ROM which has not been updated for months, get a recent one like Lineage OS just to try if it works, its also small in size.

He wants to just enable USB debugging in devoloper options because he wants the stock firmware and his pc isn't recognising his phone because this option isn't enabled.
He has twrp so flashing any rom will do just to get into the phone and enable USB debugging so he can flash the stock firmware through odin

Hey, so yeah, I was just looking for any rom, didn't really look for anything in particular, just got the first one I found in order to just get into the phone.
I ended up just taking it to a repair place after not having much luck myself, I don't know what exactly they did, but I now have that ROM flashed and I have access to the phone, I'm not sure if I want to try flashing either a different custom rom now, stock, or just sticking to this, since I'm sorta scared it will get messed up again and I'll have to go back to that repair place.

Nope, I'm on Extreme ux 8.0, which is what I downloaded to try to get into the phone to turn on the usb debugging option, the guy that repaired it must've noticed it was already on my SD card and flashed it without telling me.
Like I said, I kind of want to go back to stock but I'm sort of scared of touching it and having it get stuck again, I've kinda got used to this rom's little issues by now though I suppose.
