Anyone out there with a rooted ZTE Axon 7 that can do a quick speaker test with the Axon 7 using a certain Mod?
Thinking on getting one but just want to see if the request I ask makes a difference in speaker quality & loudness.

Yes I also forgot that this mod normally doesn't work with Android 7.0 or higher, only works with Android 6.0 so sorry but yes the mod is called Waves MaxxAudio (Alcatel Idol 4S Port)

What does it do better than V4A+Dolby Atmos?
I guess it would work if you used stock 6.0, but I'm on 7.1.2.

Yeah I guess I just wanted to see and personally I believe it provides better speaker quality than V4A and/or Dolby Atmos but I can just test when I get it thanks for at least replying!

Well, using V4A alongside Atmos improves the soundstage a lot (even though some noise appears), but the AKM DAC helps a lot with that. I'll try that mod if I ever go back to stock, might work there

Maybe it's too much to ask for DSEE-HX
But, seriously, sounds like sh*t on headphone mode
much worse than stock 4.4.4

edit:
It seems fixed after "walkman" is updated to "music"
Try update it and take a reboot

Very soft speaker and i am yet to test the headphones. We need to wait on some mods like dreamingonmusic. To be honest the Z1 never had good sound quality anyway.

Yeah never been good without mod, known to be worse than Xperia Z
Big drop as i used to use Dreamingonmusic
but 4.4.4 without mod seems still better than 5.0
I feel that sony just copy and paste 90% files from Z2 and Z3 690 so..... not well calibrated
Honestly, I find that music with headphones sounds great. I just make sure to turn on studio surround sound and adjust the equalizer based on what headphones I use.

No need for an apology. At least you got the attention of others for the same problem I'm wondering about.
Now isn't there anyway we can increase the loudness of the speaker? Maybe even the clarity too. Because the Audio mods for Kitkat are able to do that. I'm sure we can do the same on Lollipop

I actually found the headphone volume is lowered too, maybe tends to be a bit more bass by its decrease of clearity. Yeah the speaker sucks and suffer feature loss x_x
Low volume isnt problem for me as i dont need high volume, just give me more clearity and resolution!!!!!!

Updated to Lollipop yesterday. Of course I'm using Sony's official update and not CM12. So yeah I didn't bother to.watch any videos or listen to music because I updated my phone very late at night. But today, I realised the Audio seems broken. How is it broken? Well, I play a YouTube video at max volume. Seems fine but a little soft for being at max. As soon as I drag it down just a bit, it's like impossible to hear anything. When it reaches half volume, it feels like the minumum volume and the minimum volume feels like it's muted. Anyone have the same problem?
Tl;dr: Can't hear jack **** on near max volume

I'm guessing you guys are facing the same issues? The speakers are WAY too soft. The difference in volume from Max to 3/4 is just too big. Too quiet on 3/4 and just average on max.

I've gone back and forth now between 6.0.1 and 7.1.1 listening to my favorite songs and I definitely find that marshmallow sounds noticeable better than Nougat. The sound is more detailed and less "muddy".
Does nougat use some sort of audio processing or bass enhancer or whatever? I want to like the nougat sound more as I’d like to stick with nougat but the difference is noticeable enough for me to stay on marshmallow because of this reason.’
You sure Dolby is off?
Exactly, dolby on equals ****ty sound. However when I was on Marshmallow it kept turning itself on. Now I'm on a LineageOs-based ROM so I don't know.

I find that it ruins earphone sound quality. It's a lazy alternative to an equaliser without doing the job effectively.

Hi,
I am considering purchasing this phone and use it as a HiFi player. The reason is that it uses the Snapdragon DAC (same as the one inside HTC 10) furthermore, looks like the aptX/HD libraries, coming from Oneplus, work on it as well.
For those having this phone already, I have 2 questions:
- have you tested the sound quality on it with decent headsets?
- is the HiFi enabled at all times or only in it's music player? Some competitor phones display HiFi in the status bar to show the DAC is enabled
Thanks!
I have ordered the phone. Will confirm ASAP.
I thought it would have good DAC like Vibe X3.

Received the phone today and tested the audio via Vivo XE800 and Monk plus. It's not good. The output volume is very low too. Monks which are 64ohms needed volume at almost 90%. Monks didn't sound as good, low end struggled. Vivo which is bright had even worse sound on these. Even speaker volume is very low. Tested via both poweramp and Neutron player.
Better buy a used Vivo X3 which has 9018k2m if you want just for DAP.

Do you plan to return or keep it? For the later, I guess you will test some custom roms - maybe the sound improves with a different rom...
Of course, you should try on custom firmware based on MM.
At the 4pda conference there are feedback about the sound output Hi-res 24/192 using Poweramp (beta). And also additional mods Ainur pandora and Davine beats.
To amplify the sound, V4A and Magisk modules were used.
I do intend to keep it and use custom ROMs since the Stock UI is pretty bad and hogs almost 45% RAM without any app running. But as I am reading a lot of complains online about this device's unreliability so I am not going to unlock the bootloader anytime soon to void warranty. Right now I am trying to find a 'certified' USB C to micro USB cable to connect an external DAC. If you guys have any idea about this pls do report.
P.S> Since this device doesn't have OTG I am not sure if external DAC will work. Will find out.
Just received Z2. Well... It sounds pretty awful, expected more from this device. No software will help if hardware implementation of codec is bad.

I have no claims to speaker, it's pretty loud for me, both on stock and custom. Zuk has the most loud speaker from devices that i owned. Just not satisfied by headphone sound. I listened it more, it's not so bad, but not HiFi level, as all phones without dedicated DAC. Anyway, Xiaomi Mi5 with same built in Snapdragon DAC sounds little better.
From my experience the headphone sound is... Ok but not amazing. It uses the in built SD820 DAC and I've had an overall mixed experience. When hooked up to my Sennheiser HD 215's the sound given by the Z2 is passable but nothing special. After installing the Arkamys 2 sound mod (which is more of a tweaked codec than anything else) sound quality did improve a decent amount but it still isn't going to beat out a proper HiFi music player or hell even a sony droid phone.
In my opinion at least sound quality is... passable but it isn't going to win any awards any time soon. Stuff like the Arkamys sound mod do help improve it but again because the DAC is the one built into the SD820 it's kinda expected. I mean, for a phone at this price point a few corners would have to be cut somewhere. Either way if you're really serious about your music then just stick with your current setup.
Despite that though the Z2 is still a really nice phone and is well worth picking up if you want a nice powerful phone while you're on a budget

Sound from Lyf Flame 1 which has same SD DAC has better audio compared to ZUK so it would should improve with custom ROM and with further enhancements like V4A it should help it reach it's max potential.

I wanna suggest for everyone who want better sound - install Hiby Music player. My favourite music player for years. It outputs the most clean audio compared to any other android/ios player.

on Nexus 5 and on OP 3 there is such fashion where it is possible to involve the acoustical loudspeaker for reproduction of music, games.
I also search for such a mod.
Would be great if there is such a thing.
Connect your Bluetooth speaker and problem solved.. In most other situations it's not appropriate to use full volume with gaming or watching movies anyway.. at least not in public.. unless you're living in ASIA haha
There was a mod for some phones which enabled the ear piece as a loud speaker , I'm also searching for an option like that.. That way we will get dual speaker effect
