Essential Home device - Essential Phone Questions & Answers

Has anyone heard anything on the status of the Home device? I would love to burn my rebate on getting one of these little toys.

I hope it comes out before December 15 because that is when our credit expires. But I too would love to get one of these devices too.

mobiles.co.uk delayed to 17th nov

Dammit! Was expecting my HD to arrive from mobiles.co.uk anytime now (was flagged as 7th Nov) but notice on their site that it is now expected on 17th!
So far from "Beating the queue and be the first to own this phone with our unique pre-ordering system" it looks like I will be among the last.
Unless I cancel out and find another supplier - any suggestions?
Inpossible to get through to anyone on thier sales line right now so unable to confirm this yet - but not looking good.
Dammit indeed! I ordered from there too! If anyone else knows who does it on contract on o2 let me know too. Really upset!
7th could have been a typo maybe? Meant to be 17th from the start?
This is most disappointing, as I myself had also ordered from there and was eagerly awaiting dispatch!
There is also the possibility that they did get some stock in today, posted them out, and now the 17th is when they're getting more stock in?
No it was always the 7th. I rang them up a few days before with questions and they told me the answer woudl be with them by Friday - which is the 7th.
I am so angry. Got really excited about getting it soon and now have to wait nearly 2 weeks. If they get stock on 17th, we may get it on 18th. 11 days away.
Also, they say 'expected' stock - just like they said for 7th, so there is no guarantee they will get it on 17th and may change date again later.
They have informed me, after leaving the phone ringing for over 10 mins, that there will be no HDs from them until 17th at the earliest.
Expletives galore as my anguish gets buried under posts from people unboxing theirs.
Damn you Carphone Warehouse.
It is also possibly worth bearing in mind that the Touch HD was *supposed* to be an Orange exclusive (excluding SIM free obviously) and released on the 11th so this could have something to do with it...
source: http://www.trustedreviews.com/mobil...ange-Confirms-Touch-HD-Exclusive-UK-Launch/p1
edit: actually re-reading it doesn't mention the date... I can't remember where I saw the 11th advertised... still, it's supposed to be Orange exclusive...
This is just a SIM free version bundled with an O2 contract from an online reseller - the Orange exclusive oesn't (or shouldn't) effect it.
They probably did two things. Either got a few in stock and kept them for themselves or dished out to friends with discounts... or... knew they were going to get it on the 17th, but said the 7th to get orders in and therefore money in, to prevent us going elsewhere. Bad of me to think like this I know.
Lots of suppliers have them in stock so why could they not get any? 100 went to Expansys for crying out loud!
It's impossible to speak to anybody in this organisation - when their line isn't actually old fashioned engaged expect to be held for 10mins + to speak to a sales agent. A 10 minute queue for sales?! What's it going to be like if something goes wrong.
So pulling my order (assuming I can ever get through to them to do so) - just need to find someone else who sells it with contract online now....

That was my main concern as well. I sent them an email 2 days ago asking if the 8gb card is in the box as it was not mentioned on their site. Still got no response. What happens when things go wrong with the item? Not very good CS, I'll say! I think I'll avoid!
Play.com claim to have them in stock. Mine is being packed as we speak infact.
Paly.com don't seem to sell phones with contracts - which is what I'm after as I can get the HD free on an 18 month £35 O2 contract (don't want to go Orange - not sure why, just assuming their coverage and international stuff won't be as good).
Unfortunately it's looking like mobiles.co.uk are the only online retailer to do this.
Did I say dammit already?

ATT Pure gone?

Is the ATT Pure gone? I am looking to add a line to my plan, and cannot find them anywhere. ATT has them on the website, but only refurbs and only for new customers (free). Amazon has them online for new accounts and upgrades, but they don't do add a line transactions.
Am I missing something? Is there a replacement for this phone coming out? My wife likes the Tilt 2 that I just got, but thought the physical keyboard was not needed... that led me naturally to the Pure.
im existing and it shows up for me .
I spoke with AT&T this morning. The refurbs are only available to new customers due to limited supply. They also said that I could order it as a new customer and transfer it over to my existing family plan without any problem or cost.
The said that the phone is still listed as a available phone, but they have no stock and do not know if/when they will be getting them in. O'well. I guess it will be a refurb for me.
Read this thread from FEBRUARY: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=637163
I did order the phone. I was planning on doing the $100 HTC trade up rebate, but it is not good on refurb phone purchases. But since there was no actual cost to the phone no big deal. I get to keep the tilt as a spare. On my TP2 purchase last week, I am sending in a Treo that was collecting dust and getting my $100 rebate.
I don't care if the phone is old (which it is not really) or not selling well. It does what I want it to do. It has no real replacement, and definitely the right cost. I upgraded 2 smart phones and the total cost will be -$50. Not a bad deal at all.
2 Tilt 2's would have been o.k. but the wife did not want/need the physical keyboard. Plus I could see a day when we would grab the wrong phones on the way to work and then be screwed.
LetsTalk.com has them along with Wirefly.com. Both available under the add a line program. Cost depends on your timing, they run them NIB for free MOST of the time, but have seen them listed for about $50 US.

I did not see them there. The only HTC that came up for AT&T was the tilt 2. I do believe they are gone, (or going away quickly). Not to be selfish but, I got mine.... or at least it is coming.... since it is coming Us Postal Service, I have a great hope for it to show up on saturday.
I can see the problem. my wife on Wed said that she would prefer the one without the keyboard. Then after she found out that it might not be available, she was o.k. with going tilt 2 as an option instead. I can see that conversation occurring throughout the country. In this case however the tilt 2 (new) was $199 vs the Pure (refurb) at $0. I am pretty sure I made the right choice.

Wow.. I knew ATT was pulling them out of their stores but it seems EVERYONE is now. I've seen ATT pull phones before and places like Wirefly have them still 6 months later. I just checked on them 2 days or so ago when MY wife was eyeballing MY Pure..

As of thursday morning AMAZON was the only one who had them. They wanted 0.01 for a new line and $80 for an upgrade.
Amazon does not do the add a line, and phones purchased though them cannot be combined with an existing family account (like you can with att's own phones) without a $250 penalty within the first 6 months. ATT tracks by device ID, as long as the device is activated, they don't care how. Amazon get their comission based on account number. If you do the new account option, then try to combine the accounts, you will lose the new account number and be fined.
If you did upgrade by the end of May, you could do the HTC trade up rebate if you have an old device to send in and get $100 back. Then the phone would be -$20...even free shipping.
They did say that stock levels were low for the pure.

Ebay had some friday.. got busy and didn't get a chance to come here and post on it. Some of those dealers offer add a line. It's gonna suck if I ever have to do a phone swap though and no one has new ones. I love my Pure the way it is now. The stock ROM bites but the Energy is rockin'. A friend had a refurbed phone from ATT and whenever it got hot here his screen would fog up from internal moisture.

I have had some good luck with refurbs, but of course there are some horror stories. In this case I am sure that the cost saving will be worth it. The way I am upgrading and shuffling phones around, it will leave me with 1 line with an upgrade option on it. This will give me a chance to be able to replace any phone that breaks out of warranty in the coming months. Keeps the insurance cost down to zero.
First thing you do with any phone you get, new or refurb is check the white patch under the battery to make sure it is NOT pink in any way. That is the indication that the phone has been wet.
I love my Pure. Actually since me buying mine, my good friend and also my father have made the jump too. Its a pretty good touchscreen phone that is feels just the right size. I hope you all are successful in your attempts to get your hands on one. We knew they were going to get pulled months ago because of the low sales (wtf). I guess most people prefer the TP2 (meh).

I just got it and after a long 40 minutes on the phone with at&t the did all the juggling on my account and got it working. (even got them to waive the activation fee).
So far so good. I am charging it now, so that I can flash it to the (same) energy rom that I have on my tilt 2.
The battery in the Pure was draining the website so they stopped selling it :|

Units with august manufacture date

Anyone get pick one up from August yet?
I'm waiting until these come out after getting 2 with dead pixels... and I don't know how many more chances I'll have to open a good one @ gamestop, where my money is tied up. (Kinda regret trading in my iPad 3 with a perfect retina display....)
Please let me know if you got one and how the screen is!
I'd guess you were unlucky. My friend, mom, and I all have June ones and the screens are flawless. Also, August builds may not be available for some time, depending on how fast these things are selling. Guessing Google probably learned the N4 lesson and have stocked up lol.

Nexus 6 and Black Friday

I've been very tempted to get hands on with the Nexus 6, been following the news almost every day going online. Now its been released, still couldnt really get it online until when I went on motorola and almost checked out.
But now I think of it...Black Friday is getting really close. I have a feeling that Google will lower the price of Nexus 6 or have some sort of a promotion to hit the mass market. Plus, Best Buy will probably offer some sort of a gift card incentive. http://quikdocs.com/news/google-nexus-6-black-friday-deal-how-low-it-could-go/1006780/
When you are in demand and in rush of buying something you will always lose $, I think I will wait a few weeks until Black Friday to get my Nexus 6. (Even though I am using my friend's broken screen iPhone lol)
I can't think of a single reason why there would be any type of discount for this device on Black Friday. People are being quoted DELIVERY after Black Friday. The phone is in serious demand.
That would be the dumbest economic move ever. I think it would actually drive down their stock, due to people losing confidence in their ability to run a business.
A provider may offer some incentive for signing up for service, that you could combine with the purchase, but since the phone has been so hard to source from both Google and Motorola, I don't see any evidence that it'll be easy to obtain by Black Friday. Again, people are seeing DELIVERY dates of 12/2 for phones they are able to order now. Even 11/26 delivery on some means we won't be seeing availability by then.
Black Friday has become a joke. I don't even consider bothering looking because of how little stock there is and the fine print used to weasel out of pathetic discounts.
That said I strongly doubt a 3 week old device will get any BF love.

Nexus 5 was not discounted on Black Friday and don't think this device will either.
Lol people will be lucky to just get the device before black Friday... Forget about any deals. May be thru carrier you may get something if you sign a contract. Bit that probably applies to all the phones they sell and may not be particular to nexus 6.
Sent from my Nexus 9 using Tapatalk
Don't forget that Google shan't care if they sell 0 or a million of these as their exec stated in a interview so I don't Google week offer a deal. Carriers could offer deals but certainly not Google themselves.

When you say you have the feeling do you mean you find this device too expensive for you and you try to come up with some b.s story to get your hopes up?
The major BF ads are already out there (http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com). No Nexus devices at all to speak of.
What a waste of a thread, full of speculation with no substance.. Just some guy hoping for a deal.
He can buy mine on black Friday for 699+ tax so I can get a 64 GB?

Bestbuy $100 off Verizon Pixel 2

I just came across this deal with Bestbuy. It would lower the month rate for the 128gb version by $4.17 per month. Nothing be done or traded in. Still have the option for up to $300 on a trade in.

S8 S8+ and Note 8 are $250 off though.....in Bestbuy
I did this. No problems at all. Happy to get away from an LG G5 and to the Pixel 2.
Thanks for posting this! Think I'll be headed over to best buy today, was going to jump on the Pixel 2 anyway, I'll take the extra $100 break. Wish my Nexus 6 was trade in eligible.

according to Google, your phone is worth $70 for trade in (although, $100 off at best buy is better). on swappa, it's going for $135+
Interesting thanks for the info. I'll have to check out swappa!
FYI my local best buy didn't have stock on the Pixel 2. They got 2 in (yes two) and they were sold before they ever hit the floor with no ETA for more. Gave up and went to the Verizon store and they had plenty. Paid more but have a shiny new phone now. They said no trade value for the Nexus 6.

interesting. wish you did not boot up... folks on the other thread are trying to see if you can unlock the bootloader by leaving the SIM card OUT before the initial boot.
personally, I plan on waiting until black friday/cyber monday to see if the price drops to something more reasonable.
The Verizon person powered the unit up in the store, though I'm not worried about unlocking the bootloader myself. The email app I have to use for work checks for a rooted/unlocked phone and locks me out if I'm using one. Sucks.
I did notice however that when I enabled the developer options in the phone settings there is a switch for "OEM Unlocking" in the developer menu and the switch is available, it's not greyed out. If unlocking didn't factory reset the phone I'd give it a shot but really don't want to set the phone up all over again if by some miracle it were to actually work.
I wanted to wait until black Friday too but my Nexus 6 was getting so laggy I couldn't handle it any more, it had to go. I will say I really love the Pixel 2 so far. Such a nice upgrade from old Shamu.

thanks for the feedback.
i called VZW today inquiring about any upcoming promos/black friday. rep claimed that he did not see/know of any aside from the $300 trade-in credit (which my phone is not one of).
he did offer to waive the activation/upgrade fee ($35), free shipping overnight, and honor the $100 gift card (which I think is only applicable to new lines). he mentioned there was a sale of $15/month on the XL that ended on the 9th, but could not re-enable it for me.
so I'm going to sit tight (not really, just getting antsy), and wait to see what promos come out on Black Friday.
also, he did say that the device comes with the bootloader unlocked - I reminded him what that meant, as most reps think that this means password locked or something - but he sounded very certain he understood what I was referring to - so this could be a good sign, but I'm not holding my breath.
from my understanding, unlocking the bootloader does NOT root the device, as root has not been established on this device (yet).
looks like the $100 off at best buy is gone.
just waiting for VZW black friday announcement. last year, they announced it on 11/4 - so this year could be on Friday, 11/3.
I keep checking google for any other promotions, but no dice.
so if anyone sees any deals, please post it here.

i didn't buy them.... but why wouldn't we believe it?
on a side note, was showing my kids all of those "iphone drop from 1000 feet tests", and it got me thinking....
maybe the manufacturers place such a high price tag on the phones when they first come out to make these folks think twice about trying to intentionally break the phone. then, once they've been out for several months, the price drops for those that are really interested in keeping the device rather than experimenting on them....
just a thought....

Well - of course it is too good to be true. Doesn't take much to figure that out. Why the hell would they sell a new phone at a loss instead of just canceling the preorder or returning it.
