[GUIDE] [FIX] Unstable 4G/3G Network On OxygenOS [No Root] - OnePlus 3T Guides, News, & Discussion

If you use a OnePlus device specifically a OnePlus 3/3T then there's a really high probability that you've been effected by the unstable network problems(Data network automatically switching to 2G or 3G when the 4G signal becomes a little weak even though the device is capable of receiving the signal) caused when the signal strength is very poor. Even if you select 4G/3G only in the settings the signal becomes 2G.
If you are getting affected by this issue then you can solve this just by installing an app from the play store.
STEPS-
1. Install the app " JOnePlus Tools".
2. Open it and then click on "More Settings" icon on the top right corner.
3. After that click on phone info.
4. In phone info select drop down menu and choose the option, "LTE only" or " WCDMA only" according to your need.
5. Done.
I've been testing it for a few hours now and and haven't faced the issue.
If you are still not able to understand what to do then watch this video, everything done step by step.

But if you choose LTE only when there is not LTE the mobile signal is lost right?

This does not seem to work any more. I think since Android 8.

I tried the OP3T Cellular Settings 1.1 as suggested, but that didn't seem to work on my OnePlus 3T (Android 8.0.0).
However the Dial *#*#4636#*#* and in "Phone Information => Set Preferred Network Type:" as suggested by @lover, and then using LTE only worked perfectly. Thank you!

[GUIDE][No Root][5.0][4.X] Enabling LTE Without Root

EDIT: Clearly now that there are custom ROMs, this will be less likely an issue. But @icheyne pointed out a good method that will work on most ROMs I believe, since it uses Android's default testing menu.
For those seeking a permanent solution, you WILL need root.
Currently no permanent solution on LG Stock Lollipop.
Here is some information about my situation:
-Currently on Fido Network in Canada (LTE Band 7 [2600 MHz])
-I have achieved LTE speeds of 31mbps (Down) and 25mbps (Up).
-I am rooted, but it should work without root access.
-Firmware is stock V10h-TWN-XX
-Network mode only shows GSM / WCDMA
Before you begin, this is what you need:
-An LTE micro sim.
-Do some research on which LTE bands your network uses and if your variant has the ability to use that band.
-Correct LTE APN settings for your mobile carrier. Make sure it is LTE APN, my carrier has two separate ones (Regular, LTE).
-Mobile Network does NOT have to be turned off (You can keep data on during all of this).
-With Mobile Network on, go into Settings -> About Phone -> Network and remember what is written under "Mobile network type".
-Make sure you are in a location that has decent LTE connection.
METHOD FOR LG STOCK LOLLIPOP
1) Open up your Dialer, and type in the following to enter LG's Hidden Menu: "3845*#855#" for D855 (If your model is not listed, please do Google it!)
"3845*#850#" for D850
"3845*#851#" for D851
"3845*#852#" for D852
2) Go down and select "LTE-Only" and go into "Modem Settings"
3) Now select "RAT Selection" and click on "GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto"
4) Without rebooting, the data icon switched from "H" / "3G" to "4G" for the first time (Turn on Mobile Network if you haven't already)
5) Now go into Settings -> About Phone -> Network and under "Mobile network type" it should have "LTE" instead of what you had before
Currently no permanent solution, each time you reboot, switch to 2G/3G, or go into "Mobile Networks" menu, you will lose LTE
But it's okay, redoing steps 1 to 3 will get LTE back once again. Tedious, but at least it works
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
QUICK METHOD (Working for all Jelly Bean ROMs & some Lollipop ROMs) (Thanks to @icheyne)
1) Go into Dialer -> Dial *#*#4636#*#* -> Phone Information
2) Scroll down to "Set preferred network type:" and click on the pull-down menu
3) Select what type of setting you want, I personally keep it on "LTE/GSM/WCDMA"
4) Select "LTE-Only" and go into "Modem Settings"
5) Without rebooting, the data icon switched from "H" / "3G" to "4G" for the first time (Turn on Mobile Network if you haven't already)
6) Now go into Settings -> About Phone -> Network and under "Mobile network type" it should have "LTE" instead of what you had before
7) [ROOT][Permanent LTE] For myself, I used a root explorer (ES File Explorer) and go into "/system/app" and delete (or move) LteConfigs.apk and LteConfigs.odex. Now you should be able to go into the "Mobile network" menu and it should have the "GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto" setting. Thus making LTE a permanent option.
Those without root access will lose LTE if they restart, switch to 2G/3G, or try to go into the "Mobile network" menu.
If you have any questions, please leave a reply. Hope this helped.
If anyone who cannot get this to work, please post with your details (firmware, carrier, LTE band, etc...).
i have heard some reports that updating some settings in the hidden menu will work, but after restart, it will just go back...hmmm.. this one retains the LTE option?
Yes, after having it on for a few days, restarts, as well as going to an area of weak reception will not affect it. It will sometimes jump back to 3g in weak signal spots (underground), but after I go outside, it will switch to LTE automatically. I should probably update the title since I've learned that this applies to other models as well.
EDIT: @chacho_2me So I found out what breaks the LTE, but it's not major unless you manually switch from LTE to 2g or something like that. Step 11 should say it all, just don't go into the mobile network menu, and you should be fine.
thanks dude..currently im roaming....will try this one when im at home
thank you so much sir.. hope i could help you sometime
I really dont know why LG didnt notice not having the LTE option on othe releases
anyhow...thanks again dude
@chacho_2me Very sorry, I don't know what happened, but unfortunately restarts reverts it back to 2G/3G. But I'll look around to see what I can do to get it to retain, will most likely need root.
If it already states LTE under Settings > About Phone > Network, would you still recommend going ahead with this tweak?
@Curleyyy Are you getting LTE reception though? If you are, then you don't need to do this. This isn't really that much of a tweak, more like just some hidden settings, that's all.
If I'm not mistaken > 2G > 3G >4G > 4G LTE ?? Reception around my place is usually 3G with a bit of 4G occasionally.
@Curleyyy In terms of speed, LTE is currently the fastest. But reception wise, it might not be the best choice. If you are in an area with poor 4G/LTE reception, it is best to go with 3G connection. If you like to find out exactly which regions have 4G/LTE, I'm sure your carrier will have that information on their website.
Thank you so much
It's working fine on Fido. A heartfelt Thank you
Cheers
I found a solution that doesn't require knowledge of the network's LTE bands:
Dial *#*#4636#*#*
Click Phone Information
Scroll down the page to the GSM/WCDMA dropdown.
Select LTE/GSM/WCDMA - the data icon should switch from H or 3G to 4G.
[ROOT ONLY] Using a root file manager (ES File Explorer) go into "/system/app" and rename LteConfigs.apk and LteConfigs.odex to LteConfigs.apk.bak and LteConfigs.odex.bak
Reboot
Go to Settings -> Tethering & networks -> Mobile Networks → Network Mode and select GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto.
@icheyne I confirm that works, I will change the post.

Oh dear, that's inconvenient. I don't have lollipop installed yet, since it's been quite busy for me and I need my phone. I will try to update the guide for Lollipop.
When I can test it personally, but for now, if you could try to surf the forums. I am short on time lately, I do apologize.

On mine, only the .apk file was present, not the .odex file. I have flashed a stock-based lollipop rom. I renamed the .apk file and the lte was added to the mobile networks menu, but my phone is still not connecting to lte .
It is correct, the "phone information" menu loads on lollipop, but an error message pops up overtop and you can't get to the settings due to this.
I sure hope I can get this working or I'm going to have to get a different device!
@vinistois Thank you for reminding me about this. I do apologize in advance for not keeping up with this as I am still sticking with JB for the time being. I just flashed L to try to clear things up. Are you currently rooted? And do you have the D855 model?

Enable WiFi Calling & VoLTE on T-Mobile US onOP 5 w Original OxygenOS 4.5.5 Firmware
Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to let you know that I was able to enable Wi-Fi Calling and VoLTE on T-Mobile US on OP 5 with the original OxygenOS 4.5.5 firmware by doing the following:
1.) Ignore for a moment that you are already on T-Mobile. This was preselected for you automatically by the virtue of inserting a T-Mobile SIM card.
2.) Go to settings and manually search for/select mobile network. Let the phone search for a mobile network for you.
3.) You will get T-Mobile to appear but the only connection choices you will be given are 2G, 3G and 4G. There will be no choice to select 4GLTE.
4.) Ignore the fact in 3.) and proceed to select the "plain" 4G option
5.) Go back to SIM & Network Settings. The preferred network type for you will appear to be 2G/3G/4G (automatic).
6.) The WiFi Calling and VoLTE options now appear on right under the Preferred network type. Select WiFi calling/or VoLTE
7.) Switch to WiFi. You will get a notification on the top right bar that you are on WiFi/VoLTE calling.
8.) Try it out - it works
9.) Now turn off WiFi. This will switch you to your T-Mobile network.
7.) Check your notification bar on top, it will show that you are on 4G LTE.
8.) Test your 4GLTE connection speed with a program like speedtest.net.
9.) Mine was ~ 55 mbps download and 12.4 Mbps upload - definitely 4GLTE speeds.
10.) Enjoy

You don't need to go thru any dance on this...my phone has always done this with out changing any thing... T-Mobile in Atlanta..
On my OP 5, VoLTE and VoWifi did work instantly.
All of this was enabled without any effort for me on TMobile.
I am curious though, are you saying that 4G (by itself) is an option for you on preferred network type?

My old Samsung S7 EDGE working fine with VOLte and WiFi calling at the same SIM card.
Is there any fix for this on my OP5?

Default band for jio - band 3,5,40 ... Lock these 3 bands or all bands to get default.
Profit and volte issue solved.
Disadvantage-
Net Speed may vary upto 14mbps+. But still you can manage to get 1mbps download speed.

What is the status of SMS from JIO?
First thing is Jio is 4g only, whatever solution provided by you will not solve network drop because lock bend is not solve ROM issue. So provided solution will not work for MIUI PRO, I am using network signal guru from long time to lock band base on area and signal strength to get maximum speed when network signal is low

Try dialling *#*#4636#*#* and select the first entry (Telephone information). You can set your preferred network type there. On my phone there are a lot of options to choose from, including LTE only, WCDMA only, etc.

not receiving incoming calls...

just got the phone yesterday and updated it to the P beta. everything works amazingly well for a beta in my opinion, BUT i cant receive calls. outgoing calls, texts, web and apps are just fine.
spent almost 2 hours at tmobile flipping all the settings around and no luck. any ideas would be appreciated.
Same issue here bro...Incoming don't ring but I get voicemail notifications.... Really annoying, even if it is a DP.
Turns out the beta doesn't play well with the essential LTE. Switch to 3g and calls will come through. Hopefully it doesn't take long to find a work around for it
I believe the people having this issue have volte enabled...try and disable volte (it's broken anyway and more than likely why calls won't ring through) and see if that works
Got same issue... My experience was that I could solve the problem with reboot.
Issue came after playing on settings for mobile network.
Is meaning, when you do this you have to reboot afterwards otherwise you can't receive calls
Try it.

Tried rebooting multiple times while changing settings around. The only way I can get the calls to come through is by going without LTE completely.

Settings/network settings/mobile network/advanced/enhanced LTE?
I had the same issue and to fix mine I just enabled Wifi Calling.
When on wifi I didn't get a call, just missed call notification. After enabling wifi calling, it comes through without issue.
I tested calling off wifi and on wifi and all calls come through good now.
This could be similar, so you guys might want to look at that also.
Good luck!
Heard from a few that this was solved by going into phone app settings -> calls -> calling accounts, then turning on "receive incoming calls". Seems it's disabled to save battery? Can't confirm as I just flashed to try it out and then went back to 8.1 because I like themes too much. Lol.
I'm on Sprint and was never able to make or receive calls regardless of Network settings in the easily accessible options menu.
The following fixed my issue. You can access this menu without downloading an app but I forget how so it's easier to just download the free app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xsquarestudio.forcelte
I had my network mode set to LTE/CDMA when first using this app, and somewhere in the middle I changed it to CDMA but I'm not sure how much that impacted the actual fix.
These were my steps. I'm not responsible for any damage this may cause to your device as I'm not sure if messing with these settings is foolproof or not.
First, opened previously linked app "Force LTE" then under "Set Preferred Network Type" I changed to CDMA only. Enabled/disabled airplane mode. This seemed to do nothing as LTE was still showing in statusbar.
I then chose CDMA auto (PRL), airplane mode on/off, didn't seem to do much either. LTE still showed in statusbar and couldn't make calls. Also "Voice Network Type" showed "Emergency Calls only" inside the app.
I then chose the 3 dot menu and chose "select radio band". I changed that to United States, without resolving problem. Then selected "Cellular 800" and this may have solved the problem, but I continued on and selected PCS, fiddled with some settings in Phones settings menu. Was finally able to receive calls and my signal indicator showed 3G. In app Voice Network Type was listed as 1xRtt. I decided to select radio band once more and chose Class 10.
Calls were still functioning fine. So I went into Main settings menu and changed mobile network from CDMA to LTE/CDMA. LTE kicked in and calls still work!
Again, these settings may only work for Sprint hence the PCS Network option, and I believe Sprint may utilize the 800mhz frequency. The app might show you different options depending on your carrier. I don't know.
Anyway, fully functioning! Woohoo!!

I don't have anything in my settings that says "enhanced LTE" .
Tried using the 4g/LTE and the LTE only options. Neither would let calls through.
I have this problem using the Essential PH-1 with Android 9 Pie in South Korea on the KT network. It should be fully compatible, according to radio specifications, however it only works when I change the following setting:
Settings | Network & Internet | Mobile network | Advanced | Preferred network type | 3G
This is not ideal, since it makes the Internet slow, but at least I can make/receive voice calls. I submitted a support ticket to Essential requesting their official help (I'm well within warranty).
I had the same issue when I use my Att prepaid plan. The problem is caused by wrong network type, you can send text and browse internet, because they use the different channel. My PH-1 wrongly recognized the sim as CDMA/LTE mode, just switch it to 4G/LTE, it will be work. Go to Settings, then search "wi-fi calling", point "advanced" then you can see an opinion "Preferred network type" if you are ATT or T-mobile user, and your preferred network type is "LTE/CDMA“ then your phone cannot make call. Switch it to "4G/LTE", you phone will be work. BTW, Verzion uses CDMA, so if you are Verzion user, CDMA/LTE will work for you phone.
