How to root 4.4.2 nakasig

Hello! Can somebody help me with the question how can I root this device?

As far as I know there isn't a Exploit for 4.4.2, so you have to unlock the Bootloader at any rate.
If you just want to root, the easyiest way is just to boot the CF-Auto-Root boot image for your device: http://autoroot.chainfire.eu/
If you just want to flash custom roms, theres no need to root your actual ROM. Just flash the TWRP recovery Image via fastboot.

-- BEWARE... THIS WILL FACTORY RESET THE NEXUS 7... and you will loose everything on it. All user installed apps and any files (music, video, pics etc.) will also be lost.
* Fastboot flash a Custom Recovery, such as CWM or TWRP, with fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
-- (where recovery.img is the name of the recovery image file to be fastboot flashed).
* Using that Custom Recovery, flash Chainfire's SuperSU root updater .zip.
* Reboot and you're rooted.

The only thing that's changed since, is Chainfire's SuperSU root package has been updated to v1.86, and which you will find here...

Hello! Thank you for your help. I did everything as you wrote. Unlocked bootloader, installed TWRP but for some reason root still don't work. Can you give me a link on SuperSu where I can flash it trough TWRP? Please?

Once you've got TWRP installed, just download the latest SuperSU (http://download.chainfire.eu/372/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.86.zip), and flash it through TWRP.

Hi, antila...
If you've unlocked the bootloader, and flashed TWRP... then you've pretty much done the 'hard' part..
As @jfmcbrayer says, download SuperSU v1.86 directly to your Nexus 7, and flash it in TWRP.
However, sometimes the SuperSU app icon doesn't always appear in the app drawer after the TWRP flash... although it's very likely you are actually (probably) rooted.
To fix this, see my post here.
If this **still** doesn't work... try flashing an older version of the SuperSU root .zip, available here...

This will flash SuperSU v1.75... and then go to Google Playstore to update it to SuperSU v1.86. You will probably be prompted to do this anway, as soon as it is detected you're running a slightly out of date version...

Why didn't you just boot the CF-Autoboot bootimage as I suggested? It's the easyest way and you could have kept your stock recovery (less trouble with OTA Updates)
Just fastboot boot boot.img and a few seconds later your device is rooted...

I'm on the same boat, but I think our answer will come soon. Today I found out that WugFresh will be updating the NRT Toolkit to support the Nexus Player. See this post.

Why not just download the image and flash it? Plenty of guides on how to do this

I didn't know that there were difficulties with 5.1.1. I used Wugfresh's tool to install 5.1.1 with the "no wipe" option and I had 5.1.1 just fine - but can't figure out how to get root back!! And I need root to expand the storage!! Right now I have a fresh, clean, 5.1.1 install on my NP.
I tried Wugfresh's tool, I sure wish it told me that it didn't work with the firmware that it had already detected!!
I also tried the Chainfire root.img that I used back on 5.0 and it seems to work until I tell SuperSU to update the binaries. At that point it basically times out and asks me to reboot.
What next?! Wait for Wugfresh? Is there another way to root?

I flashed the cm recovery from dhacker and used it to flash the newest beta of supersu. After that the app didn't show up until I installed it from the store but now it works fine

I just want to upgrade it without losing all my stuff (Saved games for my NES ROM, etc...)

Why don't you locate the save data in es file explorer and copy it to the cloud. Reimage nexus player and set up es file explorer, cloud and copy the saved data back to where you stored it.

would anyone be so kind to point me to one of the guides on how to use factory image/OTA to update from 5.0 rooted to 5.1.1? I don't care about keeping my settings, and I don't care about root. just want the latest and greatest.

The Nexus Player is a Nexus device, and you can always upgrade to the latest version by using the factory images found here: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images. The procedure to flash a factory image on any Nexus device has not changed since the Nexus One was released, so you can look at any of the guides for Nexus devices.
Essentially it boils down to this: The factory image contains a few files in an archive format. There are a few images within that you need: bootloader (I can't remember what the name of the file is but it's something like xxxxbootloaderxxx.img), system.img, boot.img, recovery.img). Extract those images from within the archive and flash them. You do this by booting into the bootloader, opening a command prompt in the same folder that you downloaded the image files) on your PC and type the following commands:
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot format cache
If you also want to start fresh and wipe all your data, execute the following command: fastboot format userdata
Then execute: fastboot reboot
Done.
Notes:
1) You need to extract these files in the same directory as where you downloaded the images before proceeding.
2) if you are using Windows, you need to install the the driver (found here: http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html)
3) The procedure above assumes your bootloader is unlocked. If not, you will need to unlock it (using: fastboot oem unlock) and it will wipe all your data.

Ok - whew! I know that I went through the process but I couldn't be 100% sure because I have tried so many things to get expanded storage working to no avail that I've kinda given up for the time being...

It's a nexus - use custom recovery to flash supersu and your rooted.... Done

Thats interesting considering both my nexus phone and samsung tablet are running stock kernels (boot.img) and rooted just fine using the above method.

[Guide] How to install a custom recovery and root

OK, I see that this subject has not been properly addressed in this forum and there are a lot of users who still use tool kits,etc. for this. That's fine but you're missing out on how to more effectively manage your device. I'm writing this off the top of my head, and on my n9 which is not so easy, so I may modify it in the future.
The first thing you want to do is learn how to use fastboot. Fastboot allows you to flash image, .img, files on your device. If you've never done that start here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-9/general/guide-how-to-unlock-bootloader-flash-t3035153
Rooting is as simple as flashing a custom recovery on your device and then booting into that recovery and flashing Chainfires supersu.
So how do you flash a custom recovery? Well I strongly recommend twrp. Download the latest from here, https://dl.twrp.me/flounder/ I always find it easier to rename the file you download to simply recovery. Make sure you maintain the .img file extension. Download this onto your pc and remember what folder you downloaded it to.
Then download the supersu.zip file to your device. Download from here, https://download.chainfire.eu/696/SuperSU
Now you're ready to get started. Boot your device into the bootloader and connect it to your pc.
On your computer open the folder where you downloaded the twrp image. On an open area in that folder shift, right click on your mouse. You should see a pop up and a place to "open a command window here" In that command window type, fastboot devices. If you see your device's serial number you're good to go to flash the twrp image file.
OK, the Nexus 9 is not as easy to root as other Nexus devices. So start by typing, fastboot boot recovery.img. (Remember I told you to rename the twrp image file to recovery, if you didn't do that use the full name of the twrp file you downloaded for recovery.img) Once you boot into twrp go to install and find the supersu.zip you downloaded onto your device. Install it.
Then from twrp, boot back into the bootloader.
Once booted into the bootloader open a command window in the same folder as you have the twrp image downloaded. Then type fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
You're now rooted and have twrp installed.

Having major problems trying to do this on Marshmallow, lol.

This no longer works as described on 6.0. I can get you rooted but I can't get twrp to work properly. It doesn't decrypt the device. But you'll need a usb stick.

If you don't have USB stick, adb sideload worked for me to flash supersu beta 2.5.1
And I'm using stock modified kernel chainfire posted to keep selinux enforcing.

No, you need a usb stick and adapter to the device. But what mrRobinson said should work too. You can do that from your pc.

I went and installed Busybox, not sure if I needed to?
I really want to get this thing decrypted now but am happy to wait for a Marshmallow solution rather than go back. I suppose I could flash a ROM without forced encryption from the flash drive too? As long as I do a full wipe?
I only got my N9 a week ago and haven't had time to play with it so all this encryption stuff is new to me.

One more question..
If I was to factory reset and then flash the kernel and supersu would I get an unencrypted device? Or if I hit the "decrypt data" button in the "wipe" menu in TWRP? I am scared to press it, lol.

Excuse me but this only adds confusion in case of 6.0. So far the most comprehensive guide I found here is this one (see also an answer there).
That solution involves wiping data, so you need your stuff backed up somewhere. In my case I restored playstore apps from google account and just reinstalled the rest from apks.

Any difference when already running 7.0?

I keep getting stuck in a bootloop after flashing SuperSu. Any thoughts on this? I've tried wiping caches/dalvik. Running latest stock version of 6, latest version of TWRP, installed proper ElementalX for Android version, boots fine after the kernel install.

For N (and MM in some cases), you need systemless support - which the current version of SuperSU has. (Magisk 12.0 has it as well.)
Where Magisk (vice SuperSU) has advantages is being able to hide that you're rooted (Android/Samsung Pay, Visa Checkout, SafetyNet, etc.) - which is, in fact, why I am evaluating Magisk.
So far, I have seen next to no disadvantages to N - even on "moldy" SoCs (such as the TI OMAP in my Galaxy Nexus - the oldest hardware I've heard of - let alone seen - running N on a daily basis; I run N as a daily driver). I even prefer N to MM, let alone anything older, on the selfsame GNex (which utterly flies in the face of "common wisdom"; it makes me wonder, in fact, if "common wisdom" is a coverup for "fear of change", since said "common wisdom" predates Android by several years).

Yet, I noticed in many threads of rooting in mediatek devices, that just flashing recovery.img and boot.img is the 1st procedure to make the device root.
Does it mean that mediatek device does not require unlocking the bootloader ?

[GUIDE] Sideload NOF27B/C on Stock, TWRP, Custom Kernel, Mods, Root - Updated 3/6/17

Follow at your own risk, I take no responsibility. This guide is for any stock(seems to work with mods) rom. I used TWRP RC1, but could possibly work with alpha 2(for adb sideload only). Not sure if this method is "better" than using flash-all.bat without -w, but the file download was smaller.
Required Files and Locations they should be placed:
TWRP RC1 Image placed in the same folder as your FASTBOOT executable
TWRP RC1 zip installer placed on phones internal storage
SuperSU 2.79 SR3 zip installer placed on phones internal storage
NOF27B or NOF27C - Rogers OTA placed in the same folder as your ADB executable
Ensure the TWRP and SuperSU zip installers are loaded onto the phones internal storage and the OTA zip and TWRP image are in the ADB/FASTBOOT executables folder.
Boot into current TWRP recovery
Make a full backup in TWRP
Connect the phone to the computer
In TWRP select the Advanced menu, click ADB sideload option
On the computer open a command window and navigate to the location of your ADB executable/OTA zip
Only execute one adb sideload command for your specific device
Execute the following command(Non-Rogers): adb sideload sailfish-ota-nof27b-8130b5a8.zip
Execute the following command(Rogers): adb sideload sailfish-ota-nof27c-fb487658.zip
Only execute one adb sideload command for your specific device
The command window should be displaying a percentage and the TWRP should be displaying the standard OTA step 1 and 2 - Let this complete
Click Reboot System and let the OTA finish installing
At this point TWRP and Root are gone, but can be restored
With the device powered off, hold volume down and turn on the device. Your device should now be in the bootloader.
With the device connected to the computer run the following command from the previous step's command window: fastboot boot twrp-3.0.2-0-RC1-fastboot-sailfish.img
Install twrp-pixel-installer-sailfish-3.0.2-0-RC1.zip in TWRP
Install SR3-SuperSU-v2.79-SR3-20170114223742.zip in TWRP
Click Reboot System
Install Kernel/Mods
Remember to restore any /system specific edits such as the tether build.prop edit, host file edits, or custom boot animations.

Just remove the -w argument from the flash-all.bat and flash the factory image...

Thank you dude, so what's the difference between full factory image and full ota zip, and ota automatically downloaded to phone.
the factory image is around 1.8 G and full ota zip is around 800 M, but the ota automatically downloaded to phone is only 47 M

I had good luck with this method getting to NMF26O. Just a couple of things to note. Make sure you have the latest ADB files, and while it probably is assumed that you are using TWRP RC1 I'm pretty sure this did not work in Alpha2. Also, when the OP mentions losing TWRP it actually completely removes recovery so don't freak out if you try to boot into it expecting stock recovery and get a no data (or something like that if I remember correctly) error. There is no reason to check, but last time I was curious to see if it would leave TWRP in place. All is fine as long as you can get to bootloader. One other thing is the fact that this is an OTA. I would not do this unless coming from NMF26O but that is just me.
I am in no hurry to do this update since by all accounts it adds no functionality, but I was going to try it this way again. I wonder if anyone has any reason other than habit to continue to use the flash all method.

so should we sideload the OTA over Q or download the factory image and remove the -w flag and run flash all.bat?

can this process be done if we are running stock rooted but with weta 2.2.1 installed? or does it need to be totallly stock? thanks

This is only for updating stock. If you want of weta then use the full image and remove the -w from the flashall bat file.

Because I'm groovy like that... (And had a nandroid backup) I went ahead and took the jump of sideloading the OTA update over weta 2.2.1. Personally, I wasn't too concerned about botching up the system, as the weta ROM is going away. Instead the author is now compiling his mod(s) to layer over this stock build. I'm assuming that the OTA sideload went without a hitch because weta is designed around the stock image. Of course, I had to install some of my mod's again that were lost in the "update"
**DISCLAIMER**
I'm not claiming or declaring the OTA update is safe to install over weta 2.2.1. I'm only giving my experience so others can weigh out the risks for themselves, if they decide to roll the dice. :silly:

Is something up with the OP or is it just my XDA app causing it to show like this..

Not sure why it displays this way in the two XDA apps. If anyone knows how to fix the formatting I would be grateful for the solution.

Oh I didn't realize root and pay could work simultaneously on the pixel yet. Not sure which thread, but there was discussion on using the dual slots to run one slot stock with pay and one slot stock with root. Then dual booting between them.

Required TWRP for Stock Android Pie........

Hey Folks, I am just a newbie here trying to root and try Custom ROMs. Currently, I am using Stock Android Pie with Unlocked Bootloader and 1 June 2019 Security patch. I can really appreciate some help here coz I cannot find a suitable TWRP and Steps for configuration of my device. Thanks in Advance

It may be working but which TWRP recovery did you use?

i used twrp-3.3.0-2-tissot.img
i found it in this thread:

i can upload it here if you want, but im not sure what website to use to upload because it tried using xda and it says file too large

it's only an img file right? there is no zip file

twrp-3.3.0-2-tissot.img

You can find TWRP in Mi A1 xda forum but the sad news is you can't get permanent TWRP in latest Stock Pie Rom. I just had the permanent TWRP in 1.0.8.0 Stock rom by flashing eXtreme Kernel then flash Cosmic Dan's TWRP Zip Installer otherwise i tried many times but never get permanent TWRP. You can also use official TWRP Zip installer from TWRP's official site

I just need root access for now can you please explain the process for latest stock pie rom? I have already unlocked the bootloader and the remaining process on internet is just confusing

1- Boot from patched boot image (ex: fastboot boot patched_boot.img).
2- Install Magisk Manager app.
3- Open it and Select install then direct install.
4- Reboot.
If you want to unroot then select complete uninstall from magisk manager.

Download stock june boot image from here - https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=79898593&postcount=3
To patch it,
1- Install Magisk Manager app.
2- Select install then select Patch file.
3- It will ask for the boot image, select the downloaded file.
4- It will automatically generate the patched boot image.
