Where do I find OEM Unlock switch? - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

So i want to flash my S8 to a new firmware from G950X to G950F/D and there are no options for oem unlock. The OEM Unlock is on but when i install the TWRP, it keeps on blocking it and I cannot start flashing. Is there another way or does someone know this? Im using the Exynos version of demo unit. Thanks!

Have you got developer options enabled? If not you have to go to settings-about-software info- and then keep on tapping building number until it says developer options, now go into settings again and you have an option now called developer options right at the bottom, go into that and you can turn oem off

I'm not 100% sure then, demo units have no radio modem, what was you planning to do with the phone?

oem unlock is boot loader unlocking, if you try to root or install twrp that breaks knox without enable oem unlock the phone will be completely bricked. If you have successfully enable oem unlock and able to boot in twrp , you need to wipe data and internal storage to remove encryption, so twrp will be able to read data and flash. but if you stay on stock rom you need to flash others files before rebooting but for that refer to tutorials

My plan is to get the unit to G950F/D instead of G950X to get the full function of the phone such as security, full charge, etc. But not the GSM ofcourse because all demo units dont have this feature

From what I've read you can flash a firmware via Odin but there things thst will be broken. There's actually some tutorials on YouTube on how to get a normal firmware onto a demo unit.

What are the things that can be broken? Tutorials on youtube are so few and some are in other language so i cant understand, the only thing that im following now is the tutorial on youtube which he turned his S7 flat demo unit, i dont know if its the same because when he installed the TWRP, there were no problems but mine has (S8)..

Just an FYI for unlocking the bootloader

Two things first while this has been said already make sure to go into developer settings and enable the OEM unlock option. Secondly it's going to have a screen saying erasing when you reboot after unlock. It will take a while and you'll want to reboot thinking its stuck but it seems like encryption makes the wipe take like 5 or 6 minutes. YMMV but I accidentally let it download stuff before I unlocked the bootloader so I'm sure that made it take longer.

Thanks for this.
I am hesitant to unlock the bootloader until I can confirm that it's being done safely by many...already saw someone brick their device by not checking OEM unlock and/or rebooting too soon!
However, I'd like to get it done so I don't have to worry about erasing my data again!
i thought it was supposed to be checked to begin with (as opposed to the N9 which was not checked)
http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/1...-6-9-requires-checking-box-developer-options/
it's old news, but thanks for the reminder
For what it's worth, when I unlocked the bootloader on my Moto X, the factory reset portion seemed to take a very long time there, too. Not sure if it was because there was no status updates on the screen like other methods show (SBF shows each step, from recovery shows steps in yellow (from what I remember), etc). I think it -feels- like it takes longer because of that. It just said "wiping" or "resetting" or something like that when I did it.
This is how I unlocked the BL on my N6,
enable developer options
make sure enable oem unlock is checked
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot oem unlock
once this happens the phone will reboot, for me it didnt wipe data automatically, it just put me at the recovery screen (stock) if this happens you need to wipe data manually or the phone will not boot.
power + vol up then choose wipe data/factory reset
wait for it to complete will take about 5 minutes
reboot system

If you click the start option after it returns you to the bootloader screen it will wipe itself and you get the erasing message.
I'm gonna be completely stock for a couple of weeks to have a baseline of the device and 5.0 when chainfire and TWRP roll out their magic I will unlock bootloder/flash root/install custom recovery. Taking my sweet time for now
My phone actually got stuck on the android screen after it erased everything. I got scared and started looking for a factory image after 30 minutes. Google didn't release it yet so I ended up holding the power button and itnjuat rebooted fine. I thought I caught a brick before I could use the phone

unlocking the bootloader doesn't affect performance, so why wait if you're going to root later on? seems like extra work to unlock/wipe data after using for a while.
not sure how it happened but i ran "fastboot oem unlock" even without selecting the checkbox in developer options and it still ran the process. maybe it's only necessary if you had a pin to lock your phone.

Guessing it may not show up if the BL is already unlocked, since it wouldn't prevent anything from happening.
My "OEM unlock" was checked when I took the phone out of the box. Had no issues unlocking the bootloader or wiping data. Works like a charm with an unlocked bootloader (as a Nexus should).

I don't mind restoring data/settings after a wipe, I do that all the time when switching ROMs, and now you can restore your user apps through NFC from another device so you don't need root/tibu on the initial install
development is going to take some time to kick into gear so I will enjoy the device as a regular user , I hope xposed get support for 5.0 asap though

no oem unlock area in the dev tab

hello all,
im currently working on a samsung S4 (GT-I9515) and i ran into a small problem.
i have rooted phones more then ones and i know the drill more or less.
but when i tried to sellect the unlock oem option in the dev options it was not there.
normally it is located under bluetooth HCI-snooplog and above Process stats but the oem unlock option seems to be non existing on this phone
can someone tell me whats wrong or is it not needed ? Because i did get a message when i tried to install something trough the default recovery menu that the system was still locked. (also it runs android 5.0.1(lolipop))
Best regards,
Darkdevel
You can't install anything unsigned with the stock recovery. No phone gives you such privileges. That's why people made custom recoveries.

But you can't install a CR without OEM unlocked.
I am having the same problem right now (same device, gt-i9515), no OEM unlock option in developer options.
I kinda need it to install TWRP, it won't let me do it otherwise. I openned a new thread about it and explained the issue I have in more details.

Dude, all S4 models, except for the Verizon and AT&T models, have an UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER.
An OEM Unlock option is, therefore, redundant because there is absolutely nothing to unlock. And the ones that do have a locked bootloader CAN'T BE UNLOCKED.
If you want TWRP follow a guide on how to install it. They even have one on the TWRP website and nowhere does it say that you need to OEM unlock. In fact, no S4 rooting/twrp flashing guide will mention any OEM unlock option.
If it does, it's garbage.

It's very strange then. When I had a root (same device gt-i9515 for SURE), I managed to flash TWRP on my first try, no mistakes.
I recently flashed a firmware (from sammobile. I9515XXU1BOE3_I9515DBT1BOE1_DBT, because my PDA is i9515xxu1boe3) and wiped everything. It's like a new device now.
In it's current state (non-root) I couldn't install TWRP via the same method I did before (ODIN + TWRP.tar).
About the comment on the other thread, yes, I am sure it's gt-i9515 and I know that if the USB is getting disconnected, ODIN writes it on screen, so I could see it.
Here's the guide that told me about OEM: http://www.theandroidsoul.com/how-to...ry-using-odin/ (I understand that it's a trash guide lol)
Update:
I finally did it, explained here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...p-cr-galaxy-s4-gt-i9515-t3668461#post73680660

Fastboot oem unlock waiting for any device

Hello:
I am trying to follow the instructions to unlock the bootloader on my Sprint G900P Galaxy S5.
I installed the ADB SDK, the Samsung USB driver, turned on USB debugging on my phone, and connected it to my computer.
I typed adb reboot bootloader and the phone rebooted into a screen to download software to it.
Next, I typed fastboot oem unlock and I get a message on the screen < waiting for any device >
and it does nothing.
This is strange because obviously the computer was able to send the adb command to the phone so there is communication.
Why would is stop at the fastboot step?
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Neil
Ummm dude your booloader is already unlocked since it's from Sprint. You just go into your Dev options and toggle on OEM UNLOCK and your all set

Hi,
Just wondering what are you going to achieve ...
1. Don't bother with any "oem unlock" options as there is no any in your phone model. Your bootloader is uncloked by default and that's it.
2. Rooting is different story - if you didn't root your device yet then the root checkers will tell you exactly this -> so you need to root your phone to get different reply

Enable OEM Unlocking/Debloat Script for Tmobile/Sprint

all you have to do is extract the zip file, make sure your phone has adb debugging enabled, plug it into the computer, and run the script and it will debloat your phone and enable you to slide the oem unlocking toggle in developer options that was previously greyed out
********WARNING*********
this script will remove the keyboard app from your phone leaving you without a way to type, i dont know which exact package it is but you can always look them up and just remove that line from the script. otherwise make sure you have a usb-otg cable and keyboard to use or a program like Vysor/scrcpy or you wont be able to type. just reinstall gboard or whatever other keyboard you use and it will be fine

Just getting the unlock token from Oneplus. Successfully flash and unlocked bootloader. Is it have any way to unlock network?

Hey does this mean what I think it means. Can you unlock a bootloader and convert to global if your phone is network locked? Can someone explain how I can unlock bootloader after enabling oem unlocking?
Yes, can covert to Global but sim remain locked.

Thank you. I went ahead to start the process and the oem unlock switch worked after some trouble having my pc recognize my phone in fastboot. Anyone know what actually locks the sim slot? And how can it persist even on Global rom? On Tmo devices there is a "Device Unlock" app that gets deleted after you sim unlock the phone by carrier.
But global rom doesn't have the proprietary unlock app, so what is actually keeping it locked? Does the modem have the locking instructions in it?
Yes, something like that which is impossible to remove.

The previous OP devices it was possible after flashing Int. rom.
Question is where/how did they place the restrictions now. It had something to do with the modem after the t-mo app unlocks the phone.
But I don't think backing up and restoring a modem from an unlocked OP8 and flash it to locked OP8 will work as intended anymore.
I guess no one cared enough to reverse engineer this again

Hello, thanks for the reply.
LineageOS I wanted to install on the device according to the instructions (https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/gts4lv/), unfortunately did not work, in the LOS forum I also asked for help, but none get useful help there. I enabled the developer option and unlocked OEM and enabled USB debugging. Then something went wrong with Odin
But now OEM is still enabled and the box is grayed out so I can't disable OEM again. But I want to disable OEM again, is there a tutorial?

You would need to re-lock the bootloader. If the bootloader is unlocked, OEM Unlocking remains grayed out with the message "Bootloader is already unlocked"
However, if you want to install a custom ROM, you need to leave your bootloader unlocked.
What problem did you have with LineageOS? If you have TWRP installed on your device, it should be easy to flash a GSI.

GSI = Generic SYSTEM Image. You would flash it to /system and use it with the stock kernel.
