In the nexus devices when you get a notification and ambient display is activated you can tap on screen and the screen will turn on and you can access the notification, here unless you click on the power button the screen turns back off... any fix for this? it's a bit annoying

Yeah, this bugs me too, but not as much as the fact the ambient display only shows when you get a notification.
I'd like a double tap or lift action to show it...

Seriously, I'm already really missing the blinking trackball of my Nexus One flashing ever second in different colors depending on what notification I have.
No Led is sort of working, but when I hit the power button it just turns the screen off and then the icon is there again, so I have to kind of hold it just long enough for it to turn the screen back on, but not long enough to make it launch the dialogue box in which i can choose to put it in airplane mode or power it off.
I suspect it won't be long before someone figures out how to put a part of that OLED screen to use as a notification light...

Better, imo, since NoLED drains more battery than this.
Does anybody read?
I said I AM using NoLED but it's giving me problems.
dinan, that app says it's only for 2.1...would it still work?

You have to hit the Home button to show the lock screen.

There's a froyo link, but no that's meant for the Galaxy S international version. I was just pointing it out because I think someone will port it to the Nexus S soon, so I don't suggest trying it on your phone just yet.

Thanks. That helps, but I guess the way NoLED works is that it turns on the screen each time you ask it to blink...and with the Nexus S there's that stupid screen off animation. So that keeps happening everytime it works lol. Any way to turn that off?
After using my S4 phone, when I leave the phone alone, it will stay at normal brightness for a while then it will dim (lower brightness) for about 5 seconds then the whole screen will turn black (sleep).
I want to disable the dim. How can I do it? I want it from normal brightness to turn black (sleep).
Thanks
(It is irritating during the dim because I can only press the screen to make phone to return to normal brightness and I tend to press wrong stuff as screen is dimmed, or no empty area to press. Anything pressed on screen will still take effect but I actually do not want to press anything. When it is black I can use power key to turn on again to normal brightness without pressing screen.)
Anyone know?

It does not work. That does not affect the dimming time. The dim I am talking about is the 5 seconds just before the screen turn black

I think he just wants to set the dimming duration to zero. But yea I don't really see any sense in this...
Why don't you just turn off the screen timeout as deakodude said? If not, even if the screen is dimmed, there is always a way to bring the screen back to "full brightness" (ex. by touching two times the menu button or just swiping across the screen, which usually won't trigger any actions).

I do not want to turn off screen timeout as I am happy to read the screen and then let it on for some seconds then shut down.
Read this and it will make sense: It is irritating during the dim because I can only press the screen to make phone to return to normal brightness and I tend to press wrong stuff as screen is dimmed, or no empty area to press. Anything pressed on screen will still take effect but I actually do not want to press anything. When it is black I can use power key to turn on again to normal brightness without pressing screen. Sometimes I am still reading message/map when the screen dims.
"by touching two times the menu button" > this is correct, but it is troublesome
"just swiping across the screen, which usually won't trigger any actions"> this is wrong. During the dim, anything key or anything on screen touched is still working as normal.
Please note: As stated in the thread clearly. Dim I am talking about is the 5 seconds that is lower brightness than usual, it happens just before the screen turns completely black. After using your phone, leave your phone alone untouched and look at the screen until it turns black, you will sure see it.
In the past week or so, my screen will not automatically go to sleep at all. I always have to press power button to manually turn it off even though I have screen timeout set to 1 minute.
There are times when I wake up and the screen has been on overnight due to a popup notification.
Any help?

How would I test that?
I think there is a proximity test app on the Play store.
Every time my Ring App notifies me, it turns on my screen, the problem is if i ignore it and it stays in my pocket, the screen will stay on while moving around in my pocket. Other notifications will sound and vibrate but not wake my screen.. i looked thru the Notification settings, but still cant figure it out.
any help is aprreciated, thanks
I have the Ring app, and never had that problem.

Interesting, so if you are looking a your phone with the screen off and trigger your Ring Doorbell.. your phone screen stays dark?
Maybe i need re-install the app.. hmmm
I've tried looking into my settings but I can't seem to find notification settings in the actual Ring app. I believe the usual behavior is the screen goes from AOD to with lock screen, if I interact with it it goes back to AOD. I don't know if the screen goes on when in my pocket, but it's never on when I take it out even after a motion detection

I have the same issue on Pixel 2/XL. It is very annoying. I have tried everything, but have not been able to disable the screen wake. I contacted Ring to request a feature to disable screen wake, but of course they did not respond.
This is still the most annoying thing. My phone is rooted and I have yet to find a solution that keeps the app from waking the screen. Of all the apps I have, Ring app is the only one that misbehaves this way.
Hi folks,
I think I need to tweak a setting.
When I'm done with my phone for a minute, I want to turn off the screen and set it down, screen off. So I tap the power button (and the screen goes off) but while moving the phone to lay it down the motion wakes it back up again, so it is back on for. Bit after I stop touching it.
Is there a way to set it so that after turning off the screen it ignores motion for a few secs so I can put it down without waking it again?
Thanks!
