Halium 7.1 (Bacon edition) / Plasma Mobile - ONE General

*****UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE*******
(See Below)
Several month back I attempted and miserably failed at making a stripped down version of CyanogenMod for making use of Plasma Mobile. As of 17Oct17, I successfully compiled Halium 7.1 for the OnePlus One. Goto the links provided below for testing out Halium 7.1 and Plasma Mobile (CAF version)
-Halium system.img and hybris-boot.img
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B9YKnsRlFA8pMFN6NjkwZHVRYzg
Plasma Mobile rootfs.img (CAF)
http://images.plasma-mobile.org/caf-rootfs/
Halium-Install script
https://github.com/Halium/halium-scripts/
The process is to wipe device from TWRP recovery. Install hybris-boot.img to boot partition. Then from a computer (Ubuntu preferrably) goto the the cloned directory and run the following command:
./halium-install pm-rootfs-20171011-131506.tar.gz system.img
If all goes well your device will reboot and plasma mobile will start. This is not a daily driver by any means at this point. I am NOT responsible for any bricked devices or problems that may occur. If you have issues with "unauthorized device" messages, try using "sudo" before issuing the above installation command. Enjoy.

I've compiled the Halium 5.1 (CAF variant) for the OnePlus One. This one seems to be alot more responsive than Halium 7.1. Follow the same installation process as mentioned above; however, download the latest non-CAF Plasma Mobile rootfs. Follow the link below for the Halium 5.1 (CAF) hybris-boot.img and system.img

I believe Halium takes much of its coding from UBports. It took me about almost two months to figure out how to get it working. I'm working on Halium 5.1 CAF now. The current hybris-boot and system.img I made are not CAF; however, they only work on the CAF PM-rootfs.img. I believe this is the case because there is a bug with the hwcomposer on the non-CAF images.

They need directly posted here, if you'd like to be in the development section. Please look at similar threads, all include them as it is obligatory per XDA rules and GPL guidelines..

This looks great. A couple of questions / points:
The link to the porting guide seems to be broken ("there's nothing here yet"), and I was interested in how this was done, as I'd like to try myself.
When performing the script install from a computer, is the phone supposed to be in fastboot, or recovery?

xreactx said:
sorry for the delay, I'm usually trolling XDA developers forums and not the oneplus forums. I'll try to list the steps.
Prerequisite: You must have a rooted phone with TWRP recovery and wiped your device clean.
1. Download my hybris-boot.img and system.img from the google drive link provided above.
2. Install hybris-boot.img to your OnePlus One's boot partition using twrp. (or thru fastboot: sudo fastboot flash boot hybris-boot.img)
3. Clone the Halium flash install repo (https://github.com/Halium/halium-scripts/) to your computer.
4. Download the Plasma-Mobile rootfs. (http://images.plasma-mobile.org/rootfs/)
5. Relocate to the system.img and Plasma-Mobile rootfs to your halium-scripts directory on your computer.
6. While your OnePlus One is connected to your computer from TWRP recovery, execute the following command: ./halium-install pm-rootfs-20171011-131506.tar.gz system.img (substitute whatever pm-rootfs release date you download in the command)
7. Experiment with Plasma-Mobile once it loads after installing.

Hello mate, I was following your guide on oneplus forum and got stuck in step 6. I have rebooted my phone into TWRP and connected it to my PC running windows 10 via the USB cable, opened CMD from halium-scripts folder and ran ./halium-install pm-rootfs-20171011-131506.tar.gz system.img , This is what i got.
'.' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
Sorry if this is a silly question. Can you clarify how to properly connect and execute this command?. Thanks in advance for the help.

I would recommend to try first LineageOS (official one). When you get it running you can try other ROMs if you want.

Bodhi Linux on Iconia - Alpha 2

Hello all,
I'm getting prepared to upload my Alpha 2 port of Bodhi Linux for our Iconia. The thread for the original release is here. In the next few days, I'll be uploading the files to my server, writing up guides, and taking any questions. I highly recommend installing a GNU/Linux distribution before even attempting this. Using Linux in a VirtualBox *should* work, but I can't promise that. As usual, if this product bricks your device, it's not my fault. By attempting to use this release, you agree that it is not my fault. The same goes for instantaneous combustion, natural disasters, and acts of God.
New Features:
New recovery.img compiled using the Iconia, not at x86 processor (dunno if this means anything)
The ability to download, compile, and install the kernel/modules right from the device, no computer needed (after initial installation).
mkbootimg and mkbootfs
Scripts to automate grabbing the files needed for WiFi to work
Untested (May work, but I didn't have time to play with):
Bluetooth
Sound
3D acceleration
Here are the links needed to get started (not done yet):

I'd like to thank everyone who made Alpha 2 possible, including all kernel devs, etc. I'd also like to thank Jeff over at the Bodhi Linux forums.
Please ask as many questions as you'd like, even before Alpha 2 is released.
UPDATE:
The image is now up. Use gparted to partition your micro sd as follows: at least 1.5 GB (i think, it could be more) as the first partition, ext4 format. Name that partition "bodhi". Partition 2: atleast 128 MB, fat32 format. When done, mount partitions. Extract the bodhi tarball to the root of your card. Do it like this:
sudo su
cd /media/bodhi/
tar -jxvf /home/name/bodhi_alpha2.tar.bz2
Then type in ls, you should see etc , home, and the like. If you see a folder, you did it wrong.
Copy recovery.img to the 2nd partition. In Acer Recovery Installer, flash it using this custom image. Copy your nvram.txt to the card as well. Reboot into recovery. Enter the terminal. Type in setupwifi . This will copy nvram.txt to the correct place. I'll be writing up some official guides to get this working. BTW, what do you guys think of Plasma Active Two?
UPDATE (23 / 02 / 2012) : Bodhi will be on the backburner for a while. I've school stuff to do, and will be playing around with the leaked ICS.
It is very good
- Have you tested backlight regulating?
- Can you patch the kernel to overclock tegra?
Do you still need an 8 gig micro sd card for this? you mentioned something in alpha 1 about that being fixed in later versions. I really want to try this on an old 4 gb sd card so hopefully that might be enough
Great work btw! keep it up!

I have not tested backlight regulating yet.
I'm not too good at kernel patching, but anyone who wants to play with the kernel will just have to type in "getkernel" and it will dl & unpack it.
Thanks for your interest!

It may work on a 4GB, I'm going to be doing some testing w/ one today. The current 8GB I'm using is only Class 4, and Bodhi works pretty well on this older card of mine.
I'm sounding repetitive, but thanks for your interest as well! At first, I didn't think anybody would care about this too much.
When can we expect the required files to be uploaded? (an estimated day perhaps?). And do USB peripherals work (e.g keyboard/mouse) and camera work? And do you think either eclipse or netbeans IDE will work when installed?
Will this work with any Linux distribution?
I was wondering if your Linux recovery kernel will work with other rootfs images like ubuntu or kde or backtrack?

It should be up tomorrow, but my ISP sucks. I'll try getting it up. I've noticed that usb keyboards and mice do work. The apple mouse doesn't, but that's probably just a kernel module I didn't compile. I'll get that in the next version, or you could compile your own, which is very fun to do (seriously, on of my favourite hobbies.) No clue on the cameras, haven't tested. Eclipse / Netbeans may work, you'll have to test and post the results, please.

Yes, it works with Ubuntu. I'm pretty sure you could load kde up on the bodhi image, log out, then select it as your sessions. It may be slow. I recommend taking a look at the Plasma Active 2 interface, built by the KDE folks. It's pretty sweet. I've just got done downloading backtrack, and it may work. Not sure, either.
backtrack
could you possibly upload a backtrack raw image for our iconia... would love it, would also entice me to donating hehe

Also, can you include the florence keyboard into the rootfs in the next releases?
I have troubles with it`s compiling (becouse i am noob)

wow thanks much I am still an infant when it comes to compiling kernels or even rootfs image lol... I I was able to get aitcrack-ng but not gerix yet cannot find good repository for bt5 to add
So, I now have the images up on the site. The next day or so I'll be working on an in-depth tutorial. I'll also post a tutorial for downloading / compiling the sources straight from the device.

With the current kernel, no. I stay away from that for now, to prevent bricking. You can compile a kernel using the source to aim at the internal card. This is not reccomended, and I take no responsibility for anything done.
Backtrack anytime!
I'm interested for Backtrack for sure.
This website might be helpful for backtrack:
http://roms.tiamat-dev.com/tiamat_xoom/backtrack-5-with-aircrack-for-motorola-xoom/
It seems possible to use USB wireless adapter and drivers with the Xoom, I am in the office for too long this week and I'm starting to look at that very closely.
Running an RTL8187 monitor on backtrack on Iconia A500 might be something that could be done...

Thanks for the link. You see, we don't have to worry about making Android compatible drivers. On the Iconia, my kernels don't boot under chroot. They load themselves, then point at any chosen partition. Simply compile the needed driver in the kernel, flash it, (or just load the module), and go from there.

I'll compile you a special kernel to boot to internal memory. Which partition (mmcblk0px) do you want it to boot to? I cannot verify it will work. It may brick your device. I am not responsible for anything that may happen.
I type debian and debian for username and password and I recieve the following error message:
"GDM could not write to your authorization file. This could mean that you are out of disk space or that your home directory could not be opened for writing. In any case, it is not possible to log in. Please contact your system administrator."

UBUNTU and/or BACKTRACK on the I9300 (Samsung Galaxy S3)

============================================================
SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 with UBUNTU
============================================================
So I really wanted to try and use Ubuntu on my Samsung Galaxy S3, cause I already placed an order for the MHL cable so that i can hook it up to my monitor. (and also a docking station). And I think thats just awesome.
Now my plan is to show UBUNTU for android (ubuntu.com) in progress by Canonical that the SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 is the right phone for this.
And beside i think this phone has a lot of potentional.
I even like the idea that in a few months maybe some genius can figure out a dual boot system between "android & windows 8 ARM".
But now I had alot of problems figuring out how to get ubuntu to work on my Samsung Galaxy S3.
So I decide to write a short how-to.
============================================================
HOW-TO
============================================================
Now first of all, credits go to the maker "zacthespack" of the following app "ubuntu installer"
As he suggests please first try the free version and after that buy the paid version since you have more options...
IMPORTANT:
I wrote this thread for the Samsung Galaxy S3 and I will call this further SGS3.
Your SGS3 needs to be rooted and I also installed the OMEGA v4.0 rom.
Since you need a kernel with loop support.
(maybe the insecure kernel with you'll get with the rooting is also good enough, I am not sure)
ALSO
Be sure to have usb debugging on.

Further more:
THIS IS BASED ON VNC VIEWER AND REQUIRES INTERNET PREFERABLE WIFI. THIS IS NOT A FULL EXPERIENCE LIKE ON YOUR COMPUTER. HOWEVER THIS IS A TASTE OF THE FUTURE TO COME.
STEP 1:
So when installed, run the "ubuntu installer" app and it will show you that you need 3 more apps:
- VNC Viewer
- Android Terminal Emulator
- Busybox
STEP 2:
After installing those you can download the ubuntu file.
But not the script!
Now the orginal script is the problem, somehow this script cannot be friends with the SGS 3.
STEP 3:
So I re-wrote the one from "zacthespack"...
ubuntu.sh
click to download.
STEP 4:
This script and the ubuntu file you chose to download (small, medium or large) you put these in to a folder called "Ubuntu" place this folder in your "home map" of your phone. This map is called "SDCARD" not to confuse with your "extSDCARD" which is your external sdcard.
STEP 5:
now run the terminal and type:
Su
cd /sdcard/ubuntu
sh ubuntu.sh
after that you will get alot of text and it will ask you which resolution you want.
Well since the SGS 3 is a 720p phone you type:
1280x720 now you get alot of text again.
Then the terminal will ask the following:
safe this as default? (y/n)
Well "N" which means "no" and "Y" means "yes" ofcourse.
So this means it will remember the resolution etc.
Then you'll get this screen:
sometimes the terminal will ask you to put in a password 2 times
password is : "ubuntu"
proceed to the next step
STEP 6:
go back to your homescreen and open the VNC viewer.
I type following:
click CONNECT... and voila
if you did everything right you will get this:
this is a picture of ubuntu on my phone... so you see it works...

What MHL cable and docking station have you ordered because apparently a working MHL cable is yet to be released?
Ebay friend... now the s3 uses a higher MaH then for example the s2.
So you need to buy a mhl for s3 and not someone who advertises for "mhl for s2, nexus and s3" this wont work.

I am not familar with this error.
However i would suggest to remove busybox and uninstall the busybox app and VNC viewer. Be sure to use the same as I described.
And I used UBUNTU large image and my script.
If it still does not work.
Please remove all above and the ubuntu installer and image etc..
And try backtrack installer, but then use the script which is supplied with the installer.
This mostly works right away. There is something odd about ubuntu v12.
But you should get it to work, like i did.
I would just tell, that i run ubuntu on my galaxy s 3 with just the cf kernel. No need to run omega rom, but it maybe runs better with omega if it uses less ram, then stock. I also have the ubuntu image on the external sdcard and i runs alright from there, again it may run faster from the internal SD - so instead of writing cd sdcard/ubuntu i just write cd mnt/extSdCard/ubuntu
Just wanted to tell that it's possible to run with stock rom and from external SD(3,5 GB is alot on the internal SD when i only have the 16GB version)

I think you are receiving this error because the Ubuntu image is inside ubuntu1204-v2-full (or your corresponding folder) not inside /sdcard/Ubuntu. Just move the image from that folder to /sdcard/Ubuntu and it should work.
Same problem here and I have copied the files to the right folder. I'm running stock rom with the insecure kernel and busybox installed using busybox installer.
How well does it run on the phone? I wanna do this so i can finally go play some java games on the net xD

Screenshots shown in Spanish (by me) but attached for download here is the English version
I put together a little self-extracting Windows package that does all the job for you (includes adb, dlls & fastboot) and flashes the recovery on your phone.
Credits: INSPEKT0R @ 4pda.ru, quens @ bbs.gfan.com, Dees_Troy @ TWRP IRC, @Flyhalf205, TeamWin, Freize @ 4pda.ru
Please note that the Automatic Script erases Cache for safety. If you get into recovery straight away after flashing Cache partition won't mount until you Wipe it. This will not happen if you reboot directly into Android as it will get regenerated on start up.

2.8.0.2 Sense: http://goo.gl/KLTZBu (unzip & run executable) - Windows
2.8.0.2 Sense: http://goo.gl/uPV9ti IMG TWRP file (for manual install, not needed if running Automatic Script)
2.8.1.0 Play: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56429709&postcount=76 IMG TWRP file (thanks to @bgcngm)
- Screenshot support! Press Power + Vol- to capture the screen.
- HTC Sense theme by Freize @ 4pda.ru
What's new in 2.8.1.0:
MTP fixes and improvements - you can now copy zips to the root of storage - thanks to _that
TrueType Font support - optional as it takes up a decent amount of space so may not be available on all devices - thanks to Tassadar
Temperature support - thanks to bigbiff
Various other bugfixes and tweaks
What's new in 2.8.0.2:
Fix a bug that caused weird graphics and touch issues
Add MTP support to recovery thanks mostly to bigbiff with a little help from Dees_Troy
Add command line capabilities - you can now execute various TWRP features via adb instead of the touchscreen
Add support for color in the console and give error, warning, and highlight lines different colors
Track backup and restore progress based on file sizes to provide a much more accurate indication of progress
Improve handling of /misc thanks to mdmower
Improve setting of time on Qualcomm devices thanks to [NUT]
Allow using images on slidervalue GUI objects thanks to Tassadar
Allow using variables and addition and subtraction in variables for easier theming
Add support for 1440x2560, 280x280, and 320x320 resolutions and update 240x240
Allow ui.xml file to include additional xml files to help break up the theme and make TWRP easier to maintain
Other minor fixes and improvements
Note: 2.7 marks the first time that we are dropping support for older devices. We are doing this because of the SELinux support needed to install 4.4 Kit Kat ROMs. The non-TWRP parts of the recovery image have to be built in at least a 4.1 tree and the kernel that is included in the recovery image has to support writing SELinux contexts. We don't own most of the devices that we support so we depend on outside testers and developers to help us update devices. In many cases we can't find someone readily. Come to #twrp on Freenode if you want to help bring your device up to date. You can tell right away if your device will support 4.4 ROMs in 2.7. Boot TWRP and press the console button (the square-ish button either in the bottom middle or upper right) to view the console output. If it doesn't say "Full SELinux support" in the console, then your device still needs some work. Help us help you.
OLD VERSIONS:
2.7.0.0b: http://goo.gl/gjY0ep (unzip & run executable) - Windows
2.7.0.0b: http://goo.gl/pfDPJ4 IMG TWRP file (for manual install, not needed if running Automatic Script)
- Supports SD Card and USB OTG
- SELinux Kernel Support
2.7.0.0a: http://goo.gl/mlb7rV (unzip & run executable) - Windows
2.7.0.0a: http://goo.gl/gY2sLq IMG TWRP file (for manual install, not needed if running Automatic Script)
- Supports SD Card and USB OTG
2.6.3.4: http://goo.gl/T0j0g2 (unzip & run executable) - Windows
- Supports SD Card and USB OTG
- Works with KitKat according to @criszz
2.6.3.3: http://goo.gl/XrFIQY (unzip & run executable) - Windows

2.6.3.0: Automatic Script (unzip & run executable) - Windows
2.6.3.0: IMG TWRP file (for manual install, not needed if running Automatic Script, unzip first)
If you find yourself in TWRP with no working touch, you can use adb reboot bootloader to reboot again and flash another recovery.

Please report back your findings.
BRICKED HTC ONE 802w WEIBO
Hy guys,
I pretty glad that you could make it up. :cyclops:
It looks great but unfortunately didn't work for me. :crying:
Well I'm newbie so not so expert in doing all those operations.
On top, I am... French (...nobody's perfect!) and try through the language to catch your posts.
Not so easy.
Actually I have HTC One 802w (M7CDUG PVT) Weibo from China Unicom,
After many attempts I download Moonshine for S-OFF but now now I am stuck on the WEIBO logo of 1st page...
No rooting possible. called.. .er... Bricked? oui?
Damn! it was working more or less (except the Chinese apps I can't read + competition in between Google Play and HTC Market).
But at least, working great.
Situation is like having the latest Bugatti Veyron and can't shift the 3rd speed... Frustrating!
The mobile is not any more recognized when plugged to computer, Only Distiller can detect it... to end with error!
But if someone can post me a lead (at least) it would make my day or my Xmas...!!!
Meantime someone can post something, I sincerely wish you all a very Happy Time to all XDA members, Developpers, Contributors, etc.
Looking forward to reading you.

I can tell you that somebody tried to install KitKat using TWRP 2.6.3.4 with no success. I don't know if that means that it cannot work with it.
From what I can gather from your posts, you seem very knowledgeable, so you can just go ahead and try and if it doesn't work just flash another recovery.

yes just install minimal adb drivers, it'll still ask you to install it choose no instead.
For proper working of windroid make sure usb debugging is turned on and when your phone asks for granting permission to PC, grant it.
From the list of phones available if you choose your phone it'll give you an error happened with me, don't panic just press the drop down arrow to hide the phones list.
Now, you'll have 3 tabs choose commands tab, select reboot device if it works then you've succeeded if not then maybe install your device specific drivers.
Note that if you choose to flash any files it'll ask you to choose the file.
Hope This Helps

Work In Progress
Android related questions
Q: What is a smartphone?
A: ... just kidding, you are way past that!
Q: What is an android ROM?
A: Android Read-Only Memory. A file containing the Android operating system and its apps. The "stock ROM" comes preinstalled on the phone.
Q: What is a custom ROM?
A: A custom ROM replaces your device's preinstalled Android operating system (or Stock ROM), normally stored in read-only memory, with a new version of the Android operating system.
Q: What is a kernel in android?
A: A kernel is the component that helps the applications communicate with the hardware. It manages the system resources, communicates with external devices when needed, and so on. Android uses a variation of the Linux kernel. The kernel is the bridge between the ROM and hardware.
Q: Rooting-What is it?
A: Rooting is the process of allowing users to attain privileged control (root access) over various Android subsystems. As Android uses the Linux kernel, rooting an Android device gives similar access to administrative (superuser) permissions as on Linux. Rooting gives the ability (or permission) to alter or replace system applications and settings, run specialized applications that require administrator-level permissions, or perform other operations that are otherwise inaccessible to a normal Android user.
Q: What is a recovery in android?
A: In Android, recovery refers to the dedicated, bootable partition that has the recovery console installed. It is accessible with a combination of key presses, or instructions from a command line.
Q: What is Stock Recovery?
A: The Recovery that comes with your Android Device from the manufacturer is called Stock Recovery. Stock recovery can be used to flash updates from an update.zip file, OTA Updates, for factory reset etc.
Q: What is a Custom Recovery?
A: From stock recovery, we cannot flash Custom ROMs, Modules etc. For this, you need to flash custom recoveries like TWRP. Flashing a custom recovery overwrites the system recovery. Custom Recoveries have been coded to allow for backup and restore functions, selective deletion of data so you don't have to wipe everything, and modified to allow update packages that have not been digitally signed by official sources.
Q: What does TWRP stand for?
A: Team Win Recovery Project.
Q: What does OTA stand for?
A: Over The Air Update. An OTA Update is a software update that is distributed via Wi-Fi or broadband network, making use of functions built into the operating system itself.

Substratum creates a folder in your internal sd card with a flashable file that you can rescue your system.
Boot your phone into twrp if you have one and flash that file.
If you don't have a recovery installed, than just boot into a recovery and again flash that file.
