LG G5 Idle Battery Drain FiXED after V20P Update!!! - LG G5 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi to everyone,
I just one to let everyone know that the wakelocks problems seems to have disapeared with the V20P update (I made it with LG Bridge, not with OTA).
My phone, like others, was NOT dozezing at all... and geting a max of 1.5 - 2 hours of SOT.

V20P for which variant?

For the H850, European version. I live in Romania, if it helps. Like I said, I made it with LG Bridge, since the KDZ for Romania isn't out yet (on lg-firmwares.com) so I can flash it with LG UP.

Hmm. Thought the 20p is only for at&t variant, different models shares the same update code name, that's new for me.

Hi!
I've checked for software updates with both LG Bridge and by going into the settings and checking for them, both have told me I'm on the latest version of current OS. I'm on h850, v20k-EUR-XX right now and I live in Sweden.
Very grateful for any help!

Yep, checked at lg-firmwares too and as you said, only GB version is on there. Guess I'll have to wait a bit. Thanks a lot though

No only G5, my dead G4's battery drained quickly when bluetooth is on, even when there is no BT connection at all.

flashed 20p on my Netherlands EU H850 which had 20k version. Please note that I could not successfully upgrade it so had to wipe entire phone (sd card data was fine).

as for me.... i see at the SS that the phone still drains the battery while not being used at night...

How can i get this upfate on my H860?

battery drain at night is also possible due to your cell signal reception quality, especially in a bad reception area this variable can drain your battery quite a lot.
nevertheless I noticed a significant improvement on this new 20p, I ordered a new battery a week ago and decided it was a nice point to start fresh with a new firmware.
was worth the couple hours I invested.

fingers crossed

They pushed out a 20n version, again in UK. Does someone know the difference to 20p?

Is it for different carriers? I just got 20N on my 3 UK phone

I'm on 20p and still have same problem. However I did update ota. I'll find 20p firmware and start a fresh. I had no issue on marshmallow. But nougat is smoother and nicer to use. I'd love to keep it. I'll try what you suggested and use LG up.
---------- Post added at 09:34 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:32 PM ----------
No I'm not. I'm on s firmware following more updates. Don't tell me s broke it again. Maybe I should just flash brand new firmware using LG up. The problem could be caused by updating ota.

So i installed latest 20s firmware using lg bridge and battery drain with screen off was 3 percent an hour. That means over 1/3 of your battery is lost with phone doing nothing. With my collection of apps phone only sleeps 40 percent of the time. I downgraded back to marshmallow and it's 90 percent asleep with same apps. Battery drain only 1.5 percent an hour. Can cope with that as using Bluetooth smart watch and lots off syncs. Interestingly the battery life of my garmin smart watch drops to 2 days when using nougat from 7 days when using marshmallow. But uninstalling garmins app and turning off Bluetooth only improves standby drain by 0.1 percent on the G5.

Nougat ok if you set location to GPS only
Back to nougat. It's just much smoother than marshmallow and heats up less. Seems the problem is the location settings. With this on GPS only and no WiFi scanning I get much less wakelocks.
It's made a whole day with 4 hours 30 screen on.
Can't complain at that. About what I'd expect given screen and battery size. Some of that transferring photo's over WiFi and playing games. Rest browsing the web.

I have tried both plus the previous 7 whatever radio and couldn't notice even the slightest difference between any of them. If you have no issues I would skip it.
currently running KF2 on my SGS2, I updated this morning and have actually noticed that the battery life is much better than before, I am not even below 50%, 61% right now and this is from charging it last day, no charging at all today.
hallo,
im new here and i have a question. im from germany i got my my s2 a month ago from o2. no sign of branding but the homebeg in the interetbrowser.
i have KE2 on phone and when i connect with kies it tells me that the version of my software can not be updated. is this normal?

This is absolutely OT here, but just try this:
"Dial" *2767*4387264636#
This brings you into the ServiceMode
If you see these values in the third line:
[2]PCode: GT-I9100LKAVIA
then the answer is: YES
This means your phone is branded by O2 Germany. And they didn't
release an own SGS firmware until now. After they released their first one
the message inside Kies will change...

+1 i updated last night, i flashed the firmware, radio, and csc package from kf2 and am so impressed. It is night and day when it comes to battery usage on idle. So far 6 hours and only 88% with light use. I was getting to 88% on an hour of idle time.
I have had alternate results dunno why. Was on K2 and had issues went back to K4 and its better :x
Awesome, glad I waited. KE7 has been great, battery life is fantastic after the Fastdormancy + Under volt + ATK to kill rogue apps. I'm hoping KF3 will allow me to not have to do all that for excellent battery life.
KF4 - 10/06/2011
KF2 - 11/06/2011

update on battery, lost 10% over an 8 hour period on idle, which is a lot better than before with prev firmwares
So if I understand the most recent is the KF2 ?
I thought normally the count would go up
If I have a dutch S2 can I use the KF2 or should I use the ZSKF2 ?
I tried KF2, but I had to go back to KE4 because I had terrible priblems calling and getting data.

damn, my OTA is not working, device modified.. heading to sammobile
I thought there was a 5.02?
I updated mine yesterday and it seemed a bit buggy/laggy here and there so I did a factory reset and now my battery won't charge with phone on. It goes down 1% every 5 minutes or less. It will only charge with phone off and the it dies like 2 percent just booting up.
Tmo support says 5.0.2 is what should be what we are updating to, not 5.0.1?

Mines 5.0.1, battery is still pretty good, just slightly less than what it was on KitKat, super smooth running though

[EDIT] I answered my own question - realized there's a thread about this.
That lollipop was huge, took the edge awhile to suck it in. For a while I thought it had shocked
Sent from my SM-N915T using Tapatalk
Nothing but problems since I've upgraded..
Download and install went fine, but after it booted up for the first time, the battery would die 1% every couple minutes. I plugged it into the charger at work that I've used for months (nexus 5 charger) and it died even faster. I tried a factory reset and it still kept happening and the battery completely died. The only way it would charge is when the phone was off. So I waited a longggg time until it had about 15% and did another factory reset.
The phone seemed to work fine after the 2nd reset. Right now, certain apps will take a long time to open such as gallery. It doesn't force close. It just freezes and I have to press home button to cancel opening the app. Everything else works fine and battery life seems good.
I realized my LG charger at work that I've used for months now does not charge the phone. It will no longer charge the battery. I have the spare battery I got from Samsung with the 50% off any accessory deal. Neither battery will charge with any charger that isn't the fact charging samsung one. when it is plugged in, the battery depletes rather than charges. It will charge if the phone is off but very very slowly.
Laggy
Wow, lollipop is lagging hard. My edge is crawling AND I can't tap speaker when I answer calls on the edge, anyone else with same issue?
I noticed u have to slide the speaker shortcut on the edge like how u answer calls

I installed the latest c firmware (d in build prop) with LG flash tool (NOT UPGRADE), a CLEAN install.
wiped(factory reset) before flashing, then in flash tool cleared and made a CLEAN install and factory reset after to be safe (3 resets) .

Before this I got screen on time maximum 2,5 hours.

Think I've been around enough to make an accurate judgement, add I'm an recognised developer, I made a hell of a lot of mods and ROM's all developed for two things only battery life with good speed.
You don't have to believe me, what matters is for me, add I got a much better phone.
Hi smaberg,
I was wondering if you are on the Euro 815 version of the G4? Based on your post I'm guessing you are? As a guy who knows what he/she is doing, I was wondering if you could make a flashable zip of the version d firmware? I have a mac and my understanding is you need a pc for the LG flash tool?
Figured I would ask and would greatly appreciate if you could help!!
Do you have the same set of apps installed as you did before the firmware and resets?
I saw better battery results on my second G4 vs my first, some of which I assume was because I installed a lot less apps on the second unit. Which seems reasonable to me.
What device is the OP using?
Sent from my LGLS991 using Tapatalk
I'm on international 815 (Euro).
Still using the exact same apps(didn't use LG backup Restore as it brings back the old draining Barry problem from my old backup).
And NO I can't make an zip, as it would skip some important steps. I mean I can make it, NO problem, but then you will end up with the exact same problem add the old.
hey Smaberg, can you outline the step to flash the new version? I'm using 815, but since i'm residing in Asia, my phone is not seeing any upgrades.
Yeah i also like to get exact steps you made to flash

I know, but compared to before, with only 2 hours, sometimes even less worth stock a and b I'm pretty ☺ happy, now I'm going to deactivate some junk and see the results, and when I'm done I'll share it.
I'm trying to get the best battery without root, then with root and some of mine scripts and files mod. And we'll see where we stand. In the end maybe an ROM pure made for battery as in the old days. If some still want this? I thought/think people mostly want bling bling and speed...

Hi,
I would definitely be interested in a battery life based ROM. I find that premium phones have more than enough power you need (if youre not a gamer) so as long as the UI is smooth battery life is more important to me.

Ravi

I'm still testing, but the possible observed bigger battery drain could be due to a new doze management that doesn't allow the processor to reach a deep power saving condition as before so to solve the notification problem when the phone is in standby.

On one Polish Android forum, a few users had battery drain and high mobile data usage with it. It might be responsible. I have it disabled and battery drain is lowered for me from B152.
Also, remember that if a newly installed app is added automatically to the protected app list in the battery manager, it is also added to the Doze exemption list (or rather I think it works that way).
Make sure you go to Settings->Applications->Advanced->Ignore optimizations and exclude the apps you want to be stopped by Doze.

With C432B170 I get only 7-8h SOT with 48h battery runtime. Listen to music for only round about 3h over Bluetooth and 85% of the time using lte. Now I'm testing the C10B172 and here it's the same battery life. On C432B152 with B162 Kernel I had 8-9h SOT with the same lte usage but with 8-10h listen to music.

At least my problems with K9-mail notification under wifi in standby condition are now gone.

New TMobile software update 146.91MB battery seem improved screenshot included.

This is a T mobile update
Let's discuss the result. Exciting time, not expect to see update this fast, but man I just want this problem to be solved. Do I need clean cache after update? Security patch has been updated to April. I feel like I'm looking at a new Samsung with timely software update!
After some more usage with the new update I think it is safe to say that battery life now is much more consistent. I don't have stuff that jumps out that suddenly drain 200 mAh of my battery where android system consistently responsible for 1300 mAh to 1600 mAh of battery loss per day.
However, I still think there are still a lot of improvement on the software side can be made to improve this phone (including battery optimization). Hopefully Samsung can continue the development of the software to discover all the potential of this phone.
Still looking forward to the Android N as well.

We know this.....In my opinion however I'm sure there are plenty of other S7 Edge users who don't have T-Mobile versions and would like to know there is a fix on the horizon.
Whether you're on T-Mobile or not, this information is still pretty useful to most users.
Get my drift?
I have the APC8 version since like 2 weeks ago (I have the International Exynos version). Battery life is indeed much improved after this update, but I'm not sure if this also applies for the Snapdragon 820.
Where's AT&T at? Looks like an improvement with regards to Android System battery drain.

Hopefully it will be soon,if t-mobile has it all the other carriers should as well.
I have an unbranded phone from Vietnam (G935FD), does anyone know what the update trains are like for non-carrier phones? I haven't had a single update and I got the phone the day it was released. I'm experiencing heavy battery drain (and a very warm device from normal use), so I'm holding out hope that an update will fix it.
Have had the APC7 update for about a week on a SD820 (the greater China edition SM-9350), empirically battery life is quite a bit better. Android system is still #1 but that includes camera usage (what a battery drainer!)

There's a PC9 update available for our SM-G9350 from what I can see online, but I haven't received the OTA yet. I'm on the HK version.

We know this.....In my opinion however I'm sure there are plenty of other S7 Edge users who don't have T-Mobile versions and would like to know there is a fix on the horizon.
Whether you're on T-Mobile or not, this information is still pretty useful to most users.
Get my drift?

Other users (international NON-USA) don't have anything about this information:
The updates in the USA are OPERATOR-dependant and released, and are DIFFERENT from the international updates!
So: this info should be in the T-Mobile USA section of the S7Edge (it's created for that)!
After one day testing very happy with the result.

International users don't have an issue with Android System battery drain.
This thread is for the US users and they have the right to be informed that there is an update coming soon to their provider that will fix it. You're not from the US so I wouldn't expect you to know how provider updates work here. T-Mobile is usually the quickest getting them out and then it follows by Sprint, ATT and Verizon.
This thread is to let those users on other US networks know that they are about to be shown the light at the end of the tunnel. Nothing more, nothing less.
If you're an international user then you need not apply.

You will not have an issue either, once you will learn that this is actually the idle power draw of the Snapdragon 820 processor and not much can be done about it.

Except that there can. The update out for T-Mobile users fixes it. From what I've seen in screenshots, it gets it down to that of Exynos phones.

Well, hopefully, but the Android System drain on Exynos is at around 3% while after the update on SD820 it goes down from around 30% to around 20%.

I think is less of about percentage it showing. As you can see, I don't use my phone like 5 hours a day or something like that. Even without update, I can also pull 5 hours screen on time if I just keep using it or read book on it. If you look into the Android system drain compare on mAh level is huge different. Used to be 1700 mAh for android system now is less than 400 mAh per day. That's much more than just 10% of difference. What I'm excited about is the improvement on the idle time where I use it to check massage and respond once every three or five min.

From what I can see it just draws less and don't fix it..still over 30% with both android and system while the international have way less combined (10%). See pic
