Activate double tap on status bar to lock
Try another rom, InvictaOS https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/development/xt16xx-cyanogenmod-14-1-alpha-t3492274 have a double touch in fingerprint to lock screen
Been using fingerprint quick action app. Have to use the root method to get exact stock behavior of tap > instant sleep.
Would prefer non-root method but it works. Only issue is that I suspect it causing minor stability issue. Every 2-3 days need to restart my phone or I'll get 'could not get root access' errors when doing the fingerprint lock, but all good after reboot.

can Invicta (or any other rom) do single touch fingerprint gestures out of the box??
Use RR ROM official. It has single touch FP lock.

Hello
Is it possible on the Nexus 6p to use the finger print scanner to unlock apps with the finger print scanner on the phone without using it to lock the phone and having to setup the PIN lock?
If you mean that you'd like to have an app that locks certain apps and unlock it with the fingerprint scanner, you should try FingerSecurity. You can set which apps are locked by the app and you can then use the fingerprint scanner to unlock them.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rickclephas.fingersecurity&hl=en
You can join the Beta to get Nexus 6P support. Works great.
and without any app?
just using the F.P to wake the screen up or lock it?

I don't understand what are you saying.
With Nexus 6P you just have to touch the fingerprint sensor without touching any button and the screen will wake.
Android doesn't have a functionality to put a fingerprint lock to open a certain app. For that you will have to use the link above.
i wish, but

in order to activate FP, it demands another locking feature.
i'd upload a screenshot, but it's not in english

Yes and that is how it works with every device ever.
No device will allow you to have only fingerprint security (if you mean that you want to make it impossible to unlock your phone without your f.p) because modern (6.0+) Android phones would be thrown into the garbage if your f.p. sensor stops working properly. (the system encryption will be fu*ked cause it requires a pin)

It says: fp with linw/password/code.
No option for "just" fp.
Android 7.1.1
Just like what was said above, there is no option for just fingerprint. You need to have a backup way of unlocking your device. So if you get your fingers chopped off, fingerprint sensor fails, etc. you could still unlock your phone with a pin/password/pattern.

is not correct?
just the FP isn't enough
oh! finally i got it.
forget the last question. everything's great
So I just upgraded to the OOS 3.0.2 MM build, and there's a new issue that's greatly annoying me. If you lock the phone with the power button, the fingerprint scanner will unlock it fine. However, if you lock it with something else (as I do with both shake-to-lock and Nova's lock actions), it will insist on ALSO asking for the pin/pattern unlock once your fingerprint has been scanned.
Anyone find a way to disable this security feature while still having a fingerprint unlock in place? Neither Gravity Box nor the security settings are presenting any obvious options
That's a feature of Android MM, not OOS. It can't be disabled.

There is no way to disable it? Even rooted? No xposed or system level hack?
It seems to be an error in design of Nova launcher and other solutions. They don't use the correct way of locking the phone hardlocking instead of softlocking, and therefore the phone will ask for pin just as if you restarted your phone.

I had same issue when i used double tap to sleep in nova launcher prime.... i is because it uses device administrator to lock phone! I fixed by using root to lock my mobile....
Long story short you need your application to use root to lock your device!
But what if the shakelock app I use (and love!) doesn't use root....? It's sounding like I'm out of luck here. How have you managed to make Nova use root to lock?
I guess I'm more of an Apex guy, don't fancy Nova launcher even though I bought it a couple of years ago. I just double tap on top part of screen to lock, or press the power button, or let it timeout. For unlocking, I just use fingerprint, no fuss, no asking for code.
I was happy with Nova Launcher (which is currently on sale for $0.99 on the Play store), until I found out that it has a bug in voice searches from the Home Screen's search bar. It annoyed the heck out of me as it kept on complaining "App not installed" when clicking on the little mic. I had to click on the search bar and THEN click on the other mic that appeared, inorder to access voice search. Defeats the purpose of the voice search b/c I use it a lot while driving and I cant be bothered to be clicking through so many hoops. So I switched my homescreen launcher to Google Now Launcher, while keeping everything else Nova Prime.
For anyone interested, I have found a sort-of solution. Using a combo of Xposed Maxlock and Lockscreen Disabler, it's possible to have a lockscreen up that you can dismiss by using the fingerprint sensor. There's a fairly obvious downside in that it doesn't matter what fingerprint hits the sensor, as anything at all unlocks the screen (which is Lockscreen Disabler's function) but it works as a way to use a non-root lock method that still allows you to unlock the screen with just a touch. Until such a time as someone finds a better solution
I'm pretty sure that it's easy to write a simple apk that uses the root method to call the screen off function. Only if someone would write that
Why I tell that - because if You double tap the status bar - the screen locks and You can easily unlock it just with the fingerprint sensor... therefore, that function does exist already in the ROM.
Yeah, I've got the Nova rooted lock function working, so those actions or GravtiyBox stuff like double tap status bar will work and not require pin+fingerprint, but my specific ask is this way to lock the screen by quickly flicking/shaking the phone (which is GREAT and I don't understand what hasn't been included in stock) - none of those seem to use root to lock so this workaround is a way to have that convenient screen off + convenient fingerprint on.
Need aide over performing double tap to screen lock and use fingerprint sensor to unlock the screen.. Intention to avoid using physical (power button) for screen un/lock . Thanks

To enable double tap to lock from home screen, simply install a launcher that supports the option via gestures.
E.g. Nova launcher prime (available for INR 10 or about 0.15 USD as part of summer deal), or other free launchers.
If you want double tap to lock in the status bar or nav bar, root & install xposed, then GravityBox. It is hands down, the best customization module that I have tried.

Yes, I have enabled DTW. But, i need to perform DTW to lock and perform unlock by fingerprint. Since, I notice if DTW is done for lock of screen then the same is required to unlock the screen whereas unlock by fingerprint is not functioning.

What did you use to get double-tap-to-lock? Try any third party launcher and see.
I use Nova launcher: gestures>double-tap>choose shortcut>GravityBox actions>goto sleep.
If you use the native screen lock action in Nova, you cannot use fingerprint to unlock. Pattern/PIN might be needed. The GravityBox action does not have this limitation.

It's available in Nougat
available in nougat.. if u can't wait use fingerprint quick a action in XDA
Gravitybox
You can use gravitybox to lock your phone using fingerprint. It is available in Nougat, but if you're on MM, and can't wait, install xposed framework, install gravitybox module, and under fingerprint settings, you can set an action for each finger you've configured. One of them can be set to lock the screen.
On 7.1 im using the fp sensor as home button and set up double tap to turn off screen. Maybe it's available on some cm13 builds too?

Provided you're on the stock Nougat ROM, and you've got your fingerprints set up, head to Settings>Security. Under 'Device Security', tap the gear icon next to Screen Lock. There on the Screen Lock Settings, you'll have an option to long press the fingerprint sensor to lock your screen.
(This is present on Nougat v7.0 NPJS25.93-14.4, I think it's present on earlier Nougat builds).
Custom ROMs likely have their own method of locking with the fingerprint sensor or with the soft home button.
This will help

Hello,
Last week i got an update for Nougat version & updated it successfully. But i have come across an issue, with Marshmallow even though i didn't activate finger print scanner to wake my screen up when i touch on the finger print scanner it ll wake up my phones screen. but now with Nougat, that doesn't work (or) double tapping the screen also doesn't wake the screen.
Is there any way that i could wake my screen ? (i didn't root my phone so i would prefer non root method)
Thanks in Advance.

Open the "Moto" app -> Display -> Enable the feature.
I think that's the raise-to-wake feature you're looking for.

settings-> security-> fingerprint. set up the FP here to unlock the phone
"Gesture settings" are not part of stock N, they are in custom N ROMs like CM14.1
my wife has the same issue, it´s now raise to wake. in marshmallow, when you haven´t set any fingerprints to the phone, the fingerprint reader used to wake the screen, the exact same behavior of the power button, in nougat they got rid of this feature (im guessing).
I am facing same issue.
