Hello xda. Not a newbie, but i am suffering from a strange problem.
My Cwm recovery seems to have been corrupted after trying to flash CM7.2 rom. I can't restore my nandroid backups, & can't flash any other rom. My stock recovery too shows following errors:
last log/dev/block
E: can't mount cache,
E: can't mount system & bla bla...
Anyone knows any fix for this?????????
the best is to flash a firmware complete new with odin.
Follow the instructions on cm7 thread
once you flash percys kernel you will get mount errors
just format system data & cache in cwm as you need an ext system partition

no...can't wipe..
if you want to using cm7...you must format data...system..cache in recovery...then flash kernel and flash rom
else you go to download mode and flash stock rom with odin

You might not know this, but every device has its own different system partitions. The thread you were referring to is for Asus Transformer Pad. Following that might make the problem worse.
But this is ASus phone it works on lenovo a6000

In that tutorial mmcblk0p8 is being formatted because that memory location has the /data directory on Asus Transformer. But, in our device the /data can be in any other partition, and doing that might brick the device permanently
Delete the recovery log from twrp folder and flash another twrp from flashtool or rash..what version are you using? If it is indeed a corrupted partition, you can reflash your phone using qfill
Try using the Fix Permissions in TWRP recovery...
It may help.
:fingers-crossed:
@nikhil7870 do you solve this problems?

Best way is install the latest twrp I.e 3.0.2 and do the format everything instead of advanced wipe. Your problem will be solved. I too faced the same problem and I did what I have advised you. It worked.

Is the problem resolved??
I have solution
Bro don't take so much tension , thats not hardware problem its only your Recovery's reading cache error . you can simply fix this by flashing old version of recovery and from that old recovery again wipe what you want to remove but man don't touch your mount section column , after wiping data and anything else simply flash new twrp.img then simply reboot recovery . wollllaaa you got your partion cache back now again you can simply flash you favorite roms. I hope you understand what you have to do now . But please follow these steps carefully :good: .
Remember don't flash KitKat recovery over lolipop recovery otherwise you got bootloop. Old recovery means suppose if you have now twrp v 3.1 just simply flash v2.8 then after wiping things you want , then simply flash twrp v 3.1 .
If you still have any doubt you can contact me via WhatsApp - +91 9205097520 (indian no. ) or simply reply me on xda or simply mail me at - [email protected] . And at last don't forget to tell me about your device problem .
Had this fixed on my first one . Had to return it and I cant find how i fixed it. Rooted. TWRP gives error message cant mount data. I cant backup or restore. Can someone point me to the fix, please?
Please note any instructions contained within this post are to be followed AT YOUR OWN RISK. I am not responsible for data loss, device failure, or any other form of damages resultant from the below post.
Final Edit: Method below tested and working on my SM-T580. Please read entire post before making any device modifications.
The reason you cannot mount /data is because TWRP does not support Samsung encryption, and your /data partition is encrypted by default. To fix this, you must disable encryption and FORMAT (not just wipe) your /data partition. You will lose all data on your device by doing this.
To disable encryption you must flash this ZIP file by ashyx via TWRP. I will update this post momentarily with the link.
Edit: Procedure that worked for me is as follows: [YOU MUST HAVE A ROM FILE TO REINSTALL]
-oem unlock and flash twrp
-format data
-wipe cache, dalvik, system, and data
-back out to main menu and reboot recovery
-flash your rom of choice back onto the device, I personally am using Fenix v2 found on XDA
-flash ashyx zip *not sure if this is actually necessary but it couldnt hurt, I flashed this file at this time
-reboot system
-then reboot to recovery to flash xposed, sd patch, etc
-you will see that twrp successfully mounts /data
Good luck!

What? Not sure what you meant but it seems there is more to it than this. For some reason my device is forcing encryption across all sorts of wipes and such so I am currently trying to figure this out as well, will update if/when I figure it out

Hey, can you plss guide me through this. What is internal installation?
Will all of my data be wiped??
I fixed it by dirty flashing No limits rom. If you have a nandroid backup in hand, wipe everything except internal storage, dirty flash the rom then restore the nandroid backup.
Hello guys,
i've just received the Android 8.0.0 and as soon as i got it, i root-ed it. Now everything is fine but the only problem i have is that i cannot backup the whole system as it is right now with TWRP.
When i open TWRP in boot and i go to backup all files it gives me the following error : "unable to mount //data". How can i solve this problem without formatting it again ?
Thank you.
P.S : i added a photo as an attachment with the error.
Format both to fat and back to ext4. I would like to know if there is another way. You can backup needed apps with titanium and restore later.

When you say both, you mean "data" and what else ?
LE: I did it for "data" and now it seems to work but will try when i have the whole rom ready.
Thanks.
Update : for that time being, it seemed to work. After that i installed all the apps and did all the settings and now when i go to backup it gives me the same error. This is a part of the recovery.log after the failed backup. By the way, it failed at almoast 95% .

I:Actual block device: '/dev/block/sda24', current file system: 'ext4'

Did you first format data to fat and back to ext4 and it got fixed?; was it showing free space in /data/media, not like on screenshot where is 0mb and it's broken? after you tried to backup it broke in the process? Try to wipe, install custom rom and back up it. Try external sd

I never got blocked out for 7 days even though i installed at least 20 times different roms in the past days.
When i rooted i installed the RMM .zip . Are you sure it's from there ?
Yes, I had the same problem. I am back on Android 7 until there is a good discribtion in the right order to get it right. No one can tell me the right solution. They are all diferent. So I wait for now.

I've tried using a twrp for oneplus 5 because they seem to have had the same problem. The good news is that is seemed to work as the /data remained ok. The bad news is that the phone would enter a loop.

If you want to I will ask dr. ketan if i can upload the files.
Thanks for the help and have an easy day!

if you follow the video you have the "/data" problem and after that you solve it with the solution from dr. Ketan.
I don't know if you can flash directly the zip from dr. ketan, haven't tried it. In theory it should work but i can only confirm what worked for me.
Keep me updated on what you did.
Best step if one is on oreo stock and just want twrp +root
1.flash twrp with format data (will wipe Int storage)
2.flash magisk (from ext SD)
3.flash data mount fix(from ext SD)
All three to be flashed without reboot in between
Then must have to reboot to system
Now next time when reboot to recovery, data will available in twrp
Who already have oreo rom +twrp then simply flash data mount
Who are on nougat custom and want oreo custom rom
1.factory reset (no need to format data)
2.flash oreo custom rom
3.flash magisk if rom doesn't included
4.flash data mount fix
Reboot to system once
Done
