No Celluar Data - Moto G5 Plus Questions & Answers

My phone is rooted with a custom rom and everything runs good except it does not recognize my sim card. I get a blank triangle in the status bar. I have tried various roms with the same outcome. The access point name is "StrightTalk Verizon" Do I need to reinstall the radio? If so how is this done? Where can I get the radio? Other suggestions? Thanks for the help.

Are you using the Verizon network with Straight Talk? It's a CDMA phone? I'm running Straight Talk using the AT&T network. APN settings with the AT&T SIM are:
APN: RESELLER

Advice Needed: No data (3G/EDGE) after rooting(via AMON_RA) & ROM(CM 4.0.4) update...
Hey all, yup I'm an idiot, but I did search the threads for at least an hour and now I'm late for work: so hold back on the "well, if you would've looked...." stuff. So heres the scoop: last night flashed my T-Mo MT3G (32b) using the AMON_RA gold card method...which I took to a 32a radio and recovery and then back to a 32b radio and recovery: can someone tell me why I had to do this when I as already using 32b. OK so that was all successful: when reverting to the 32b after rooting I used CM 1.4 recovery ROM and CM 4.0.4 ROM this is all working slick at least for now with the exception that I don't have data service. So, I will kick down some more flow to the XDA kitty if we can get this fixed. OK now you lets here the, "well, if you would've looked...."
Thanks!!
Below are my APN and system info:

Try taking your sim card out and putting it back in. I read that one here a few days ago. I just got a data plan added yesterday but I still was getting no data service until took the sim card out and put it back in. I don't know if it'll work for you but its worth a try.
No dice...
Try pulling card...no luck...but thx!
is it possible?
Is it possible to fry the 3G portion of the radio when flashing it? I can make calls, use wifi, BT, and GPS but no data over T-Mo network...
Just in case anyone is listening...
OK so I un-rooted my rig...voila got me data connect back...any ideas on this? I would love to get off the beaten path with this lil guy but...won't sacrifice my data plan for it. If anyone has suggestions I will run em...thx again!
Are you sure your APN settings were correct for T-Mobile? I am on Rogers up in Canada, and know I had to redefine my apn setup after loading Amon-RA... Once I did that everything worked flawlessly.
Re-rooted and 3g access works
Something must have went wrong with the procedure the first time because I redid the whole thing from the Tmo ROM-SPL-Radio with AMON_RA's tut and re-applied the 32B radio and recovery now it works...I must have did something incorrectly along the way that first time through...anyway this thread is dead. Thanks

Lost data with Wicked v4

I did a complete wipe and flashed my at&t glaxy s4 with wicked v4 and got the ( not authorized by at&t” error ) tried again after doing some research. This time I did the complete wipe and flashed the rom, than flashed with (KT-SGS4-TW-JB-ATT) . Phone booted up and worked great for 4 days. Love the rom. This morning I pulled the phone off of the charger and headed to work. The phone has no data connection. I tried rebooting with airplane mode on, changing the network mode and toggled between all the settings, ( LTE/GSM/WCDMA and the other three The Access Point Names just has one ( Cingular 410 ). Out of ideals, anyone else ran into this?
Dang, was hoping somebody would have the answers I needed.
Did you lose your IMEI?
Re-enter your apn settings again. Sounds as if the kernel triggered this issue...try another.
Thank yall.
I reset my ( Access Point Names ) to this.

How do I know what radio is on my Nexus 4

I have a Google Play Nexus 4 Android 4.3 that I rooted so that I could flash different radios to correct a data problem. None of the radios made a difference but I called Straight Talk and they gave me new APN settings for my T-Mobile sim and for the last hour I have been getting a data connection. Now my problem is I want to know if there is a way that I can see what radio is running on the phone? Yes, I forgot what the last radio I flashed was. I don’t want to mess with a setup that seems to work. Also if I rooted my phone will I be able to get the android 4.4 update from google when it is released in October or do I need to reflash it back to factory fresh?
Settings> About> Baseband
you can go into your settings and about phone and check the baseband version and that is your current radio that you are one. To get the update you would more than likely have to go back to stock, or you could wait for a custom port of the rom and just flash it.
Thanks for the answer. seems the stock 4.3 radio and these APN settings got my data working (Straight Talk T-Mobile sim), although the speed is nothing to be proud of.

How to Sim Unlock Domestic Sprint Galaxy S4 SPH-L720T on 5.0.1 [Guide] Straight Talk+

first I'd like to thank all the different people on multiple forums that put in all the work with what I gathered here to make a simple guide on what got me a domestic sim unlock for my SPH-L720T
I know there are other guides out there, but I couldn't find any clear and simple methods to do this; there were a lot of things where I had to dig and scratch my head for information, so I will post step by step how I did this and try to make it clear and easy. This is all free and requires no unlock service.
I currently have my SPH-L720T on Straight Talk with Talk, Text, Data, everything working. I ran through and made phone calls, texts, picture messages, checked the internet connection etc. All worked with an ATT sim card that came with my Straight Talk Activation kit. I havent tested T-Mobile, or other sims. But i can verify for you the ATT sim from Straight Talk works.
This is what I did step by step and what worked for me, I'm not responsible for what you do.
Step 1
1st off you need to root, this was extremely easy with chainfires CF Auto Root, and it worked on 5.0.1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41743595#post41743595
just carefully follow the directions, it worked perfectly.
Step 2
next you need to flash the MK5 modem
put your phone in download mode (power your phone off, then hold volume down+home+power. their will be a prompt menu and it will warn you, but just continue by pressing volume up),
next open Odin which you should have from the CF Auto Root process, connect your phone to your computer with your usb cable while its in download mode, Odin should recognize it and you should see it says its been added.
Now flash the MK5 modem. You do this by clicking on the PDA / AP button in odin and selecting the "modem-L720T-MK5.tar.md5" file I provided. Make sure the re-partition option is not selected in Odin, now click Start. Odin will run its process and once your phone reboots, I got a quick notification saying that android has successfully updated. Then you can check in your "About Device" settings in your phone to verify you're now on MK5.
SPH-L720T MK5 Modem:
https://www.mediafire.com/?m28qp33jrb7q4zq
Step 3
Next you actually Sim Unlock for domestic use, this is the part that took the most time searching for something that worked, I used the Galaxy Tools .apk app from idone.apps. You can purchase it or obtain it by other means, but just make sure its up to date, v3.1.8. is the version I used
http://idoneapps.com/instructions.php#msl_sam
When you open Galaxy Tools .apk, you'll see a MSL/SPC: number which is your unlock key, you dont need to do anything with this, because on the option / button called SIM UICC Unlock, all you do is click the button, and it uses the MSL number to unlock your sim for you. If you've successfully Unlocked your sim, it will say in bold letters "SIM uicc: UNLOCKED"
If your MSL/SPC says UNKOWN then you probably need to update your Galaxy Tools .apk or reinstall, I had to update mine, then it worked like a charm
note: I know some other people had success with SSU.apk the samsung unlocking app, but it wouldn't work for me, the app would force close, try SSU.apk if you like
http://forum.xda-developers.com/spr...print-samsung-unlocker-unlock-sprint-t2928250
Step 4
Next you need to modify your GCF settings via the service menu. Open your phone dialer, and follow these instructions
Dial *#0011# and in the service menu do the following
Click (menu) then (key input) then input Q then (Ok)
Click (menu) then (back)
Click (menu) then (key input) then input 0000 then click (Ok)
Wait for about 15 seconds then a menu will pop up, from there follow these procedures:
Click (UMTS) then (DEBUG SCREEN) then (PHONE CONTROL) then (NETWORK CONTROL) then (GCF) then the top option. From there you may press the home button and go to Settings and change the mobile networks to either Automatic or GSM.
note: these directions for the service menu were from user F_X here, http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f453/how-unlock-l720-l720t-1980164/
Next all I needed to do was modify some settings in the Mobile Networks section on my phone
Change your Network Mode to GSM/UMTS, you can also choose Automatic, but I have it under GSM/UMTS.
Step 5
Lastly you need to add an APN setting so you can actually use your service, for Straight Talk I use these settings
go to Settings, under Mobile Network settings to Access Point Names (APN) and press the + button to add a new APN.
Enter Name: Straight Talk
APN: tfdata
Proxy:
Port:
Username:
Password:
Server:
MMSC: http://mms-tf.net
MMS Proxy: mms3.tracfone.com
MMS Port: 80
MCC:
MNC:
Authentication Type:
APN Type: default,admin,fota,mms,supl,hipri
Keep default values for all blank fields shown above.
Press menu button (top right) and select Save.
note: these settings I got from here, https://apn.gishan.net/settings/752_11_straight_talk_apn_settings_for_samsung_galaxy_s5.php
If you already have your Straight Talk Simcard in, then you should literally see the 3G icon and everything active almost immediately, it was for me at least.
-----------------------------
Thats it, you should be good now. Some other notes I would add, would be that I THINK, and I repeat THINK, you can lose your SIM UICC UNLOCK in Galaxy Tools .apk if you flash to another ROM or upgrade your OS, I never really found a clear answer on that, so I am leaving this phone with the stock ROM so I dont lose my SIM Unlock, but please share if you know more about this.
Also please share more info so I can update this Guide if you have more knowledge, which I KNOW theres more info out there on this to be added. Or if theres a mistake in my guide lol (pretty sure I covered almost everything I did in my own process.) I dont know if this will get moved or what, but it will prob be associated with the section about unlocking in the [q] ALL THINGS GALAXY S4 (GS4) MODEL SPH-L720T under the "UNLOCKING FOR USE ON OTHER CARRIERS" section here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=56584245#post56584245
Again thanx to everyone I sited, seriously..!

My baseband is OH1, I'm not sure if that's 5.0.1 or 5.1.1 cuz I'm on CM13 atm. Any insight as to if I could still use this guide before I just go willy-nilly flashing back and forth?

I did this on 5.0.1 stock, so I'm not 100 about custom roms, I wish I had a solid answer. Although I think I read ppl did this on stock Android, then flashed roms. But if the sim unlock will stay, is the question, please let me know if it works for you, try a backup beforehand, I think I heard that SSU.apk's sim unlock sticks better than Galaxy Tools .apk regarding flashing to custom roms afterwards

It isn't compatible with custom ROMs, I know this ahead of time. I meant asking what baseband OH1 came from (its 5.0.1) so I would be able to revert to stock, test the unlock then flash back to CM13 and test the unlock sticks or not
Does it work for international carriers?
OP, I've installed and run the Galaxy Tools / idoneapps apk version 3.1.8, but it shows MSL/SPC field = unknown and SIM uicc = NOT SUPPORTED. When clicking the "SIM uicc unlock" button in the app, I am prompted with an popup dialog titled "Network UnLock" and a field named "Enter Control Key" to be filled in. Not sure if the MSL code is expected there. I happen to know my phone's MSL code. After entering it and hitting "OK", it shows "Unlock request unsuccessful".
What may be wrong? I am on OK3 stock Sprint ROM, rooted, and baseband downgraded from OK3 to MK5.
Lollipop 5.0.1
The Galaxy Tools 3.1.8 apk doesn't seem to be able to do its magic/do the unlocking.
Thank you.

Moto E 2015 XT 1526 Surnia Version working with Textnow and custom rom

So maybe you have an old Moto E 2015 XT1526 laying around and want to get free talk and text with Textnow, but don't want to use Android 5.1 OS...and when I would flash a custom rom I would lose LTE and thus couldn't use the Textnow app without WiFi. Well thanks to Deega's thread this is the APN you need to put into your phone...
NAME: TextNOW
APN: spl1368.i.dlsn
Proxy: not set
Port: not set
Username: not set
Password: not set
Server: not set
MMSC: http://mms.sprintpcs.com
MMS Proxy: 68.28.31.7
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 120
Authentication type: not set
APN type: default,mms,ia
APN Protocol: IPv4
APN Roaming Protocol: IPv4
Bearer: unspecified
MVNO type: none
So what I did from an unlocked bootloader XT1526 was to
1. reinstall all the stock firmware via fastboot, activate the phone via ##72756#
2. install twrp 3.3.1, flash SU, install root explorer and dig out the APN info.
3. Made a backup.
4. Wiped the phone and then installed custom rom (RR, AICP, Lineage, etc)...then entered the custom APN info listed above, make it the active apn
5. shutdown and restart and profit from free talk and text from Textnow
As a side note you DON'T NEED to buy a 9.99 sim from TextNOW if you have an old sprint GLW236C sim laying around...After I stock flashed my phone I installed this sim, downloaded the TextNOW app and activated via my old SIM, no money out of pocket and now I have a bangin retro burner phone!
Hi, I followed your steps and the data connections to textnow works for the app calling on my Noto E 2015(Boost Mobile). But the connection is only 3G, showed on both status bar and sim card status. I tested webpage loading from google.com and textnow.com, it's 3G speed. I installed LineageOS 16.0 ROM after ##72756# and updating profile and PRL This phone can get sprint LTE connection at the same location before.
I double check /persist/telephony/apn.perm , the settings are the same as above APN setting except MNC is 000 instead of 120. But in the example in Deega's thread, all MNC are set to 000 too.
Could you think of what other reason can make it fail to get LTE ? Thanks a lot.

I've had this happen on another XT1526 and what I did was completely re-flash from a clean slate...in other words download the XT1526 original firmware and re-flash as back to stock. This should reset your radios...if you flash alot of ROMs sometimes things can fritz up.

Seems like you may have a ROM that doesn't like to update APN settings...but in the end if you have it working, CONGRATS you have a nice lil burner phone. I gave mine to my kids.
If anybody needs it, I have a stock Android 6.0 Marshmallow ROM for the xt1526 Surnia with the preinstalled TextNow mobile app and LTE data connection preconfigured for the TextNow network. Works exactly like the stock TextNow Android 5.1 ROM preinstalled on the TextNow-branded Surnia, except it is stock Android 6.0. (Built from the stock xt1524 Android 6.0 firmware) If anybody needs this ROM, post a comment and I'll post a download link.

Greetings @astrod , sorry I've been on hiatus from XDA and just now saw there had been a reply. Are you wanting the stock Android 6.0 TextNow ROM for the xt1526?

Thanks for the offer but I was able to get TextNow working with stock 5.1. I'd really like to get it working with LineageOS but every time I install it, it cannot connect to the TextNow service.

Oh ok. I have a couple of LineageOS builds that work with TextNow. The CyanogenMod 13.0 Snapshot build and an LOS 14.1 build. The trick is flashing an Aroma installer via TWRP that configures your APN and Telephony parameters to TextNow on a system level. I will get you some links to what I am talking about.
Ok. Try flashing this in TWRP on any custom ROM Android 6.0 and newer.
TextNow-MotoE-CM13-r2-LTE-fixed.zip
drive.google.com
This does two things: it installs the TextNow app to /system/priv-app and it configures your apns-config.xml and eri.xml to TextNow parameters. (You will need to update TextNow app via Play Store or another app repo once you boot back into the OS.) Also, and I'm sure you already know this, but make a Nandroid backup before flashing this installer.
I have found that the Surnia must first be activated on TextNow using a stock ROM. This way, the ##72786# network reset works and SprintDM carrier provisioning can properly occur. Once activated on TextNow using a stock OS, you can then flash a custom ROM and install the above fix via TWRP. Upon reboot you should connect to the TextNow network. The above fix was originally created for a CM 13 ROM but in my experience it works on about any custom ROM. I am presently using TextNow on my Surnia with the latest official LineageOS 17.1 nightly build.
@astrod let me know how it goes. I can upload some pre-configured TextNow LOS ROMs if you need as well.
Hi, thanks for your help, @Viva La Android . I tried flashing your zip on top of lineage-17.1-20210716 using twrp-3.5.2_9, but am getting an error.
It claims to successfully mount /system, but then gives a "set_perm: some changes failed" error.
When I boot into the OS, it works fine but no TextNow app.
Any thoughts? Thanks again!
Edit: never mind, I set twrp to NOT "unmount system before installing a ZIP" and it seems to have installed your zip without an error.
Edit2: but now the OS is stuck in a bootloop. Perhaps because I also flashed Magisk? Will try again without Magisk.
Edit3: nope, reinstalled LOS 17.1 without Magisk, and flashed your zip and still bootlooping.
