Superb work
dayum, it really looks like a step up from the Mate 9. Just read the in-depth DxOMark review, any chance we can see some extreme low light shots that would require flash?
Did some comparisons:

Sorry it is in Slovak language, but I hope you can get the point from pictures themselves

For me Mate 10 Pro is better on three photos, except the photo with "Danger"

Yeah I agree with that, You can see the texture of the sign board more on the pixel. Decision made, Gotta get the Mate 10 P, I just hope they keep up with the updates :fingers-crossed:
Well got it delivered today (10 Pro) so tested out the camera

I was a little surprised to find the RGB camera isn't 12mb like advertised too, it's 11.8
Comparison between P10+ & Mate10 at ISO1000. Mate10 noise reduction is too strong until lost of colors & some details has been smoothen. P10+ handle it much better & more natural. Hope Huawei will improve in this area.
I am also dissapointed by mate 10 photo quality. In daylight its worse than my old galaxy s4!
Noise reduction is too strong, sharpening is just way too strong and contrast is too strong. Pictures look completely artificial.
JPG are almost useless on 4K good screen.
On the other side - raw files are great.
My Mate 10 arrived yesterday, sampled out the camera this morning. I'm so impressed with the entire Phone so far, but the camera is really something.
The forum has reduced the quality of these quite a bit.
Is possible some of our camera are defective? I haven't been impressed at all with it. Especially in low light the pictures look a bit rubbish. The u11 and original pixel xl looked a lot better

I agree. I've been comparing the Note 8 and M10 Pro... and when i send them to people to tell me what they think, most of them come back to me by telling me the N8 is much better. I am using the Zero camera mod on the N8, and it seems that it really makes the pictures better. Honestly i was expecting much better.
Did you try the M10 on "moving subjects"? like babies, dogs, cars... for me it just has a hard time focusing. Of course, this on auto mode... on pro, and when you take still pictures it looks really nice. I also realised that the color isn't very warm, tends to go on the blue cold then warm.

I haven't really taken loads of pics outside mainly low light... But what I have taken is a bit washed out and haven't been impressed.
I think the hardware is as good as the other flagships and I heard you can get better pictures in pro mode. The software side obviously isn't doing a very good job and needs updating

very bad....sorry to say it!
It is much better though than many 12mpxl cameras of the past without any low-light tricks. But it still sucks.
https://www.anandtech.com/show/13038/the-oneplus-6-review/8
V30 with MUCH smaller sensor and pixels obliterates OP6 with its pixel binning. Op5T had pixel binning, but it had it on a sensor without OIS. Hence nobody liked op5t low light blurry mess shots. I have no idea why OP6 devs cant just port pixel binning software to the main camera with OIS and see how it obliterates competetion.
I wish we had somebody who can make this happen. Just make a port of op5T second camera binning software to op6 main camera and have a best allround flagship killing camera. Is it that hard?
I would say its quite good. I compared this with my friend that owns Samsung S8. My photo came out a lot of sharper with so much light in contrast of his photo that came out a little blurry and with less light on photo.

Yeah, it's not forgiving when you use point and shoot mode!
I found turning off hdr makes better pictures. However, lots of reports says 5.1.7 has better low light performance. So one can only hope an update makes it better. Or we just have to hope that when the pixel 3 comes, we can use resources from Google cam for 845 snapdragon.
We hope.....

But if I zoom in on the p20 pro pictures I feel the same... In fact all cell cameras if you zoom just look horrible not made for zooming in tbh. Looks better if looked at a bigger screen.
I own other phone less expensive with Gcam, and zooming the detail is more present...
My daughter face is full of grain and lacks detail...
I've never owned a "premium" phone before and I must say that I'm actually quite impressed with the low-light photo quality - I was having a tour through a cavern, took a few photos and they've actually shown more detail than I could even see! Of course, when I looked at them on a big screen, the photos were noisy and oversharpened, but they were definitely an "instagramable" material and that's what counts for me.

So far I'm pretty impressed with the quality of pictures that the phone takes. Coming from Samsung Note 9, I was worried I waste my money on the hype on the this phone, I didn't. The low light picture quality is amazing as well as the dedicated night mode. I've only had the phone two days, and it's the 128 gb version, I can already say I will need a memory card. I love catching images of just about anything, and this camera fits the bill. I will post some shots later today. The longer I have the phone and really get a feel for the camera is capable of doing, I'll post a review.
Here's a picture of a grasshopper I took yesterday. This was with telephoto option.

Those are not bad at all. Asus seems to be taking mobile stuff a bit more seriously now, so hoping the app - or GCam - improves things.
Here are two long exposure night shots of the sky on a moonless night (single images, no alterations). First one is 16s exposure at iso800 and second one is 16s at iso1600. Main camera is able to do up iso3200 and up to 32s exposures but I noticed slight star trails starting at 20s

Wow, those came out better than I would've expected. Then again, I'm use to my V20, which looks bad at anything above ISO 400. I'm surprised you started to get star trails with that focal length too. Get a handful of those in a row and that could make for a good composite with long trails.

Yeah the star trails weren't really that bad, more like just not pin point stars anymore. Here is a photo at 20s and iso800. When zoomed in you can see very slight trails.
Edit: this was also taken on a different night and the moon was just coming out if I recall correctly.

Coming from a Pixel 2XL, i REALLY miss the ois ...
Daylight photos are fine but low light is junk. Garbage would be too kind to describe it. The ONLY thing wrong with the phone. It is still my phone off the year though... And I've used them all.
Photos below comparing low light pixel 4xl and pixel 3xl to it. Daylight (pixels first in each collage) was good but not premium. Colours a bit muted.
Asus need to really do something about the camera quality. It's a premium priced product (although accessories included here in Australia for $1699aud) with a mid range camera (although the pixel 3a kills it).
Agreed, coming from many years of Samsung phones the camera is straight up trash !
You can't depend on it and in most cases i am not in a bright sunny environment but indoors, cloudy environment, etc.
Gcam mods kinda work but i find them to be kinda slow and therefore i lose the moment to capture a moment quite often.
Asus really NEED to spend serious time on this after the Android 10 release and come out with a MAJOR camera update.
Love pretty much everything else of the phone but the camera is a real let down and should not have been released this way.

The camera is the weakpoint of this phone. For the price you pay for it, I would have expected a much more decent camera.

I know it's not fair to compare it to a phone that costs the same as almost two s10 lite phones but I'm guessing that the SE 2020 which is on the same level will beat it.
The screen is nice though ...
Honestly fine.
I dont know why people gave this a low rating. I feel like people are expecting to much from Phone camera's.
For an average human being that takes a pics for memories or casual photo albums its more than fine. Enough options to choose from.
I do miss the lack of tap to focus, unless i missed it somewhere in the settings.
Hi people,
The cams are ok in good light situations i think for the price of the phone!
Only in low light situations it will have not so good performance. The aperture is only 2.0 so for that aperture is not so strange. Try to get as much as light as possible and your photo's will be ok!
I have a question, is this camera able to take RAW photos? And can you use a third party app to change the shutter speed?

It's a reaaaally huge difference dude! I am disappointed, I was thinking to get the lite for me, maybe not after see that pics.
One area that the camera impressed with was digital zoom (8x). Daylight pictures from 20 feet away were good. Guess that's one advantage of a high megapixel count.

Edit:
Now that i have the phone i think its very disappointing, can't make sharp pictures. Whatever camera app i use, zoomed in to the picture its not sharp, compared with ipad pro 2017. Everything is soft. People complain about it allot with s10 series. I didnt expect miracles from this phone but it is just ridiculous if every photo is to soft.

I agree only that it can't outperform S20Ultra - only to match sometimes. It has been proven that for Mi Note 10/ Mi 10 Pro there is better processing than S20 Ultra looking at the details. Even 9 to 1 bining does not work that good with this gen. But the margin is so small and noticable only in pixel peeping. Xiaomi's native cam night mode is very bad from Mi Note 10 and Mi 10 - I see that with this model 10T Pro they improved a little. Hope this will be fixed with updates in future.
For Note10+ I would not compare these much - yes for resolution like 'instagram' it would match looking at small scale, but at even slightly zoomed in (especialy in PC) it really outperforms Note10+ at everywhere - this is for night mode (gcam used on xiaomi). At day time yes, Note 10 series processing is great, only it lacks looking inspection at details. But for most uses the rendering on samsung is way aheat comparing to native xiaomi app (not gcam).

I've received some pics from mi10t pro (stock app) and compared with my gcam note 10+...Even on zoom in difference is minor.
I'm asking this coz I'm thinking of selling note 10+ and getting this one...than put gcam on it...Problem is, I like note (looks, spen, screen, ONE UI)...but I do love camera upgrade.

If gcam works on your note 10+, so its SD 855 processor?
In that case I would wait for next gen, Note10+ overall offers better experience.
