Exceptional battery life at idle with Beta Google Play Services (I think) - Huawei Mate 9 Guides, News, & Discussion

A few days ago I updated to the latest beta version of Google Play Services. Ever since then I have had very good battery life at idle. Prior to the update my Mate 9 would drain about 0.5% battery per hour at idle with 97% deep sleep time. With the update my idle drain is more like 0.1-0.2% per hour with the same deep sleep time. Yesterday it took 15 hours to drain 3% and today after almost 10 hours I am still at 100% (I've been busy at work the last few days so I havent been able to use my phone much). I am not entirely sure this improvement is due to the beta of Google Play Services but I didnt make any other changes to my phone.

Link please or can you just join the a beta program from the app?

Have you guys read the comments/reviews about Google Play Services on Google Play? I laughed, so, SO MUCH! Seriously, is it a meme? LOOOL!
Anyway, got the beta, will test tomorrow when at 100%

HA HA HA. I've never taken the time to read the comments for this. Very funny indeed! The scary thing I bet some of those people who commented were not kidding. My fav comment:
"Super doper boring Useless app in the world.. Nonsense"

Well well... Interesting...

@tboooe, I am also interested to install the beta version. What is the percentage of Googly Play in battery consumption settings?

I installed the Beta yesterday. Left the phone at 46% at 11:30pm. At 6:50am, it was down to 44%.
I had Bluetooth and mobile data on while WiFi was off. I'm on stock C432B194 (MHA-L29).
Too early to say, but I'm seeing very flat drainage curves when the phone is not in use. Would've posted a screenshot had I not restarted this morning before remembering to take one.

Good feedback. So is what you are seeing an improvement?

Here's a short window, but you can see the flat curve when the phone was idling for the past 2 hours.
It is improved idling. Here I had everything on: GPS, Bluetooth, mobile data and WiFi.

Here's another screenshot attachment (notice the idling).

There was an update a few days ago. I havent had a chance to test and compare the idle battery life to the previous version. Any try it?

what about SOT with it?

Still a monster saver when idle. Noice!

sick battery life after logging out of facebook app

Wow I can't believe what a difference that made, I don't have anything frozen.
I turned off GPS and logged out of facebook app and my phone went nearly 6 days and 18hours.
with EH17 modem I was getting worse battery using WiFi (go figure) on all the time, so I just turned it on when I wanted to download something.
I have an extended battery I bought from Gorilla back in March

Can't the same thing be achieved by just selecting "never" in the fb settings for refresh interval? Yet somehow if I leave notifications checked I still get notifiers for messages, invites, etc.
I don't even have Facebook setup, I think I even have it frozen in Titanium since I don't use it. I don't get crazy battery life like that though.
I have facebook and twitter syncing constantly ever 4 hours maybe ill try this out.

That is why screen on time in a situation like this is important. I could probably get four days from my 1500mah battery if I never used it.
Not saying he didn't get 6d with good use, but I doubt it.
Facebook is why we have our phones! So less checking of Facebook then less use of your phone. Hence better battery.

Yes, I have the best reception with the EH17 modem. I am able to connect to 4G in my house. I could not do that with the EC05 modem or any other leaked modem for that matter.

not very much, I am a lite user because I work from home. I text a decent amount, because of that only a few phone calls (I can get the exact number of each if you'd like) and update my apps.
I'll check the screen time when I get ready to plug it up again next week.

Same thing on my wife's epic (running midNight 5.3 as well). I logged her FB off and her stock battery (didn't want the extended battery because of the bump) is lasting like 2 days, and she uses pandora and the rest of her phone a lot more than me.

yeah I noticed that even though I asked it to sync every 4hrs it was always listed in the running services. I think this came about with one of their recent updates that has location data and what not.
If you need to check FB you can always login, check and then logout. not like FB needs to be uninstalled

NO you MUST log or sign out to stop it from keeping the phone awake. Same thing for Lattitude and Amazon MP3 if you log into those.

You have to give the battery some time; like when you first got your phone the battery life was really bad but then steadily improved.
Also, I recalibrated my phone with the new battery

FB constantly syncs over and over.. & GPS keeps locating you, so it's best to only turn it on when you need it. You could have left facebook on, turned off automatic syncing, and manually press sync every week or so.

Battery life ?

Hello,
I'm here because i think i need your help.
On every blog that i found on the test of the LG G2, they mention a very strong autonomy (1,5 - 2 days of intensive use with 8-10h of screen time)
I've the LG G2 D802, rooted, stock rom. Uninstalled every bloatware, installed battery doctor, BatteryGuru, Greenify, Mediaserver Killer, but i don't found my autonomy as good as they mention on every blog.
This day i've used few apps such music, photo , sms and 15min of game (Dead Ahead), some bluetooth.
I don't use many widget (just for bbc one)
Let the wifi, H+ everytime. No GPS at all (neither the wifi location)
Sync always on (no automatic backup of my photographs).
Don't know if this is a very intensive use (not at all for me) but i don't know if i need to return my phone ...
Is that normal ?
Thank in advance for your response.

My battery sucks, to be honest. I did the same as you except without the battery apps and only get about a work day (wake up at 7, home by 6). By the time I get home, battery is complaining. I just text and instagram alot. No music at work. Kind of sucks...
Bad Battery?
Hi i just my lg g2 yesterday, but I can barely get through 10 hours on solely wifi and texting with some internet surfing. Is this bad? Because I have been looking around and people have been getting around 15 hours of battery, which will get me through the day. I also have a 7-6 day at school.

That's what i said at the beginning of my post.
Some blogs and test reports 7-8 hrs of screening time of video.
Compared to my screenshots, i didn't played video, neither video game so much, didn't activated the GPS... I didn't used a lot my phone as you can see "5h45 of running time"
More of that, i tweaked a lot my phone to obtain this "poor 4+ hours screentime" so ... thought can be way more

ok well we will need to dig into whats eating your battery.
get betterbatterystats, its also here on forum.
get cpu spy, see amount of time asleep or at which frequencies your cpu runs often.
check what is longest on partial wakelocks, or has the highest amount of wakeups. each wakeup requires about 10 seconds idle cpu time.
How have you setup account sync.
I know none of this can be concluded from the screens above. But I do think it could attribute. also just guessing here.
I had really awesome battery life when I got my phone, almost 48 hours with like 6-7 hours of screen on time.
But now I've used it for a few weeks it hawks 30% in 4-5 hours with less than 1% screen on time, I don't know why!
Rouge app or service. 3 months in, clean phone, I lose at most .2%/h no use, and that's with GPS and Wi-Fi always active, full sync. With a few minutes of screen time in 5 hours, it's slightly possible I may 1-2% for the total.

It does not. I use it for weather, commute traffic, and game info. It updates itself with widget, just not based on location unless it pulls wifi drop to cell. I locate manually if need be with pull down refresh. I can and have gotten over 7hours. The location reporting reports entirely to often and creates too many wakelocks. Wish Google would fix it already. At least give some form of control.

I keep history on. It still saves history when I manually refresh, widget wants to at random times (doesn't happen often), or data coverage changes (like cell data to Wi-Fi).

Android OS battery drain since 18th Feb

All of a sudden the Android OS usage of the battery shot up to 76%. I usually get around 2% per hour but now I'm getting a 2% drain in 15 mins. The battery page shows Android OS as the culprit, Wakelock Detector isn't showing anything up and BetterBatteryStats just says Android OS is the big user. Easy One Hand has also appeared although I don't have this switched on.
I have done a restart of the phone earlier this morning to see if there was a rogue app kicking around and I've just finished charging it up to 100%.
Has anyone else experienced any issues in the last 24 hours?
Congratulations ! You are now the millionth user who has reported this. :sly:

Well, with so many people in the same boat, i have been having the same exact thing, what i found that even with the Location services disabled, the Android System still shows as location "running" in App Ops.
Check for this, Download app ops starter from market and under location check the android system, if you see location running then just disable it. it have no effect on any apps. You will get your battery back
Same here
I have the same problem, I am 100% stock.
What I noticed is if I reboot my phone the battery will behave correctly for a couple of days then suddenly Android OS will take over and drain it
With Android OS drain I get
3% drain per hour with no use (Wifi on every 20 min to sync)
10% drain overnight (7/8 hours with wifi on every 1 hr)
sometimes I have like 30 mins screen on time and the Android OS CPU total and Keep Awake over 3 hours (lol)
Normally, I get barely 1% drain per hr during the day if not using it and almost no drain at night
I already disabled NewsStand and I am about to try to disable Google+ even though I like the Auto-Backup feature.

Ah you see this is where saying "Oh there's loads of stuff on this issue" is a bit premature. Yes I've read all that stuff and yes I got my battery life to a happy place.
Now since yesterday evening, I've suffered battery drain and was posting to see if anyone else had noticed a similar increase. It's a sudden change which would suggest that either Google have changed something or an app has changed in some way (although I'd expect an app to show up as itself rather than Android OS). A couple of months ago there was an update to Google Play Services that caused similar issues and was quickly fixed by Google. My not pointless post was to see if anything similar had happened in the last 24 hours.
OK then, I'm over and out. I had this Android OS drain just once. Didn't bother to look into it too much. I've let the battery drain till 15%, rebooted the phone, charged it till 100 and that was it. Hope you sort it out.

Greenify apk use this app its shut down all aps working backgroud
I was on this rom N9005XXUDMJ7 , and I have tried everything that is written on the internet but I couldn't solve the problem. Recently I have upgraded to the latest rom in the link below , and the problem has disappeared.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2647861
I think I've sorted it. It's early days yet but it appears to have been an update to the gReader widget. I've removed it and everything is settling down nicely. I'm going to let it drain though and then recharge it so I won't know for another day or so.
Greenify would be the best choice since you are on stock ROM. Disable some bloatware and you will observe improved battery life. Greenify requires root and Xposed Framework though.

UPDATED! FIX: improve standby drain! (not sure if exynos only?)

So I would like this tip to be there for as many people as possible and not let it get lost in some thread. Already got some great feedback from other who tried this too.
I do not have any feedback yet from snapdragon users, so results could be different there
In settings ==> apps==> show system apps.
Disable and then enable the following:
- Google Services Framework
- Google play store
- Google Play services (here, only wipe all data en cache).
After you enabled it, these services will update themselves again in a few minutes. But with one big change: a great standby battery usage!
UPDATE!
So it seems I had forgotten some other settings that I changed also, until I read someone else his post. So for here some additional steps:
- privacy -> location -> increase precision: set wifi en bluetooth off
- privacy -> location> location history: remove location history, and turn all other devices other then THIS DEVICE, to off.
After doing all steps, do a restart. Just to be sure .
Let me know if it helped you too
Just did it, will report back with results

What i did last night was disable it that 3 and go to bed and charge the phone and this morning i turn in the 4G to go to work , and what i notice was the battery last i bit more , i notice the difference.
But as we know we can live without google services.
Now i see google services is one of the problem.
The standby only at night i can tell something.
Already losing only 2% battery overnight on wifi lol
How do I wipe the cache here? Also no option to disable or even stop here.
Nevermind I figured it out.
Unfortunately, this didn't help me. I'm still losing ~2% / hour, even overnight on WiFi.

I have had Google backup disabled prior. Battery life still miserable. Did this trick seeing how it works.
This is where I am at now. I don't think this solution had any impact on my battery life. I was able to achieve these kinds of stats day one of the upgrade on tmobile with APG1 FIRMWARE. prior to that update less than 4 hours SOT. Where I'm at now isn't terrible, but it certainly could be better

You're saying my stats are great? I have GPS toggled off and Google back up disabled. I think battery life largely depends on what you're doing. Seems like you get much more life out of watching YouTube versus texting, or something similar. Also, no wifi usage today.

report there if you saw some improvement, for me doing that stuff really changed everything and keep in mind that I have everything enabled.

I'm assuming you're referencing the WiFi glitch you noted on your device? In that case I generally don't use wifi much. Even when I'm at home I just never think to turn it on. I'm a nurse, so at work I'm moving around and jumping from modem to modem, plus all lines are monitored and I just feel uncomfortable with that. There is one unsecured connection which happens to be where my office is located, but like I said I bounce around at work a lot.
While I never thought I would see the day that I was able to achieve 6 hours SOT, somehow I did. I'm attributing it mostly to the most recent Tmobile update although I did follow the instructions in this video, but based upon previous usage drain prior to applying this method, it seems to be on par.
Granted I do have location services turned off as well as Google back up, which has not been of any help historically. So with that being said I am finally pleased with the battery life I managed to achieved. However I will continue to monitor it as battery drain on this phone just seems so day to day.
nevermind. Happy it helped

Average SOT for One Plus 5 Users / Mobile Radio Active Bug still present?

Hey Everyone,
Can someone please tell me what's draining my battery? I used 32% of battery and didnt even get 2 hours of SOT. I do see that my connection is bad.. (at work right now on the 11th FL). I did turn on airplane mode but it seems like the mobile radio wont turn off? Anyone else facing the same issues?
Currently on stock OOS 4.5.14 Kernel- Simplegx Kernel
I don't know. I'm on stock 4.5.14 and stock kernel. I am getting about 9-12 hours of SOT and .3-.6% idle drain for a combined drain average of about 2.2-4.5% an hour depending on medium to heavy use. I don't do anything to crazy with my setup. I just turn off my google account sync unless i add a contact or something then i manually sync them, turn off background data for each app that has no need for background data usage. Work email is on push and personal email is set to fetch every 3 hours.
Seems you're not alone, my 4G+ isnt' great, never seems to connect in the same places my old phone did, and even when it does its nowhere near as fast.
Data is sub-par compared to other devices, it's that simple i've been through every single setting, nothing can change it.
I don't know ow either. I have my OnePlus 5 since a few weeks ago and so far its battery is showing being the best I've ever used till now (I upgraded from a G4+).
I usually get 7-8 hours of SoT with medium usage:
- WhatsApp
- Phoenix (Facebook/Messenger)
- YouTube
- Some gaming (Free Fire Battlegrounds)
- WiFi + 4G+ (switching between them depending on where I am).
I leave home early on morning with full charge and get back with about 30% left.
About the 4G+, it's showing really good here, nothing to complain about it.

right.. and the damn phone radio is ALWAYS active. Even in airplane mode it wont turn off. It's frustrating. I'm trying to locate what is really eating my battery and i dont have a clue.

Are you sure? How do you know? Could that be the settings Mobile Data always on? Or maybe allowing google to scan for networks, allowing apps to use data without permission? Not 100% if it's the phone.
Thinking about that, what if you are actually on a plane lol

Seems average at best. I'm using only a single sim and I don't have SOT like that.

Lol my battery stats say so... and airplane mode is SUPPOSED to shut off mobile data but the radio is still active. It never turns off for me. Idk bro I'm using Gsam to find the stats but I cant find whats going on. Can you take a closer look for me?

Are you using beta or stock? Tried wiping cache? I've seen some reports that after a while cache the battery showed very good.

stock. Inerased cache multiple times. I'm going to reflash OOS and lightning kernel. Hopefully a factory reset will help.

Sure, post some screen shots from: Settings/battery. Click the graph for detailed and non detailed.
Post gsam too.
