does anyone know if the consumer Cellular version of the g5+ has an unlockable bootloader? I can pick one up at Target for $199 and it's sim unlocked already.

In general no... No carrier branded device that Lenovo's Moto has supplied can be bootloader unlocked. I can't speak to this device specifically, but Moto G3 and G4 devices that were Consumer Cellular branded had bootloaders that could not be unlocked, so logic stands to reason that the G5 won't be unlockable either.
Yes I unlocked the g5 plus bootloader. You will need to get a code from the Motorola website though

I have a US Cellular Moto G4 Play, and a G5S Plus. Not SIM unlocked, but you can do that for .99 on ebay. And it is bootloader unlockable. I've bootloader unlocked and SIM unlocked both.
I purchased a used US997 that appears to be a LG demo or test phone. It activates and works, but the software version is still from May of 2017. What is the date of the current stock software for the US997? Furthermore, I attempted to unlock the bootloader and got denied. The message says "Your device (TEST_GPIN) does not support unlocking the bootloader." Hence my thinking the phone is a beta/test version of the consumer model. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge on this? At this juncture, I am posed to return the phone.
Thanks in advance.
There are two versions of the US997. One is the US Cellular version, the bootloader can not be unlocked. The other is a non US Cellular version that can be unlocked. You need to go to the LG developer website and submit your IMEI and they will email you a file that can be used to unlock the bootloader. If you have a US Cellular version, they will reply that your phone is not unlockable.

I am aware that there are the 2 versions. What I have is not the US Cellular version of the phone. It is a demo or test model of the US997 unlocked phone. However, I can't unlock the bootloader and it doesn't look like it is capable of receiving OTA updates.

US997 is also the model number of the U.S. Cellular phone. Both the open market US997 and U.S. Cellular US997 are identical in every respect, EXCEPT the U.S. Cellular is not eligible for bootloader unlock.
You have a demo or test model US997 which was NEVER sold at retail by authorized 3rd party retailer like B&H Photo. Thus, it's not eligible for bootloader unlock. The ones that are eligible would not come up TEST_GPIN and their IMEI numbers would in the LG Developer bootloader unlock database.
(Oops...Title should end with (XT1768) not XT1767).
Does anybody know what differences there are (if any) between the Verizon Moto E4 (XT1767) after you unlock it and the (US) version of the Moto E4 (XT1767) that comes unlocked? A few things:
1. Can the Verizon bloatware be removed?
2. Is the frequency band support the same on both phones?
3. Are the other specs exactly the same?
4. Do the updates for both phones come directly from Motorola, or will Verizon continue to be responsible for updates on the Verizon model even after you unlock it?
5. Do both phones come with the quick charger?
6. Can Motorola provide the means of unlocking the bootloader for both phones?
7. Does any Verizon logo pop onto the screen during startup?
Any help with this would be much appreciated. Thanks!
I believe that you can edit your post title by editing and going into Advanced. Anyway...
1. Yes. See this. However, it's only semi-permanent. If you reset the phone all the bloat will "re-install".
2. There has been debate about that. Most users don't seem to have a problem but others have reported issues with certain T-Mo MVNOs.
3. I'm pretty sure they are.
4. Not sure.
5. I believe so.
6. Verizon will never allow Motorola to unlock the XT1767. Other version, no problem.
7. Yes

I have both variants; previously provided responses are largely accurate. I use the XT1768 (bootloader unlocked, rooted, stock) as my daily driver; XT1767 is primarily a GPS navigator and fallback device. Highly recommend the XT1768 if you have any intention of doing serious modding. Carrier unlock is effective with most GSM based networks. Things get dicey with CDMA MVNOs.
I've unlocked the bootloader on a few Moto G4 Play phones and the process was simple enough, but I want to make sure I don't run into any issues for rooting before getting my hands on Moto E4. On the Motorola website, the Moto E4 is not listed as a device that can have its booloader unlocked.

But I see people unlocking theirs? Maybe that page is outdated?
It's unlockable. Except Verizon. Go here and log in. Follow the steps. It works. Not sure why it's not listed, but it's unlockable.

Crap. I have the Verizon variant of the E4. I also have an E5 Plus, but thats a Metro variant.
I'm looking to buy a moto g7 from best buy. I was wondering if anyone had luck with unlocking the bootloader when bought from them?
i bought a used Best Buy model and was able to unlock the bootloader. As long as it is not carrier specific you should be ok.
I have a Moto G7 Supra (Cricket) and I can't get a bootloader unlock code from Moto... Does anyone know of a workaround?
