I have 2 shield tv's, on one market helper works, on the other it says token error. There is no fix for this I can find. If I exit my build.prop to trick the play store to think it's another device will it bork my system. I would try it myself but I upgraded to 6.0 and they haven't released the a restore image for 6.0 yet (if it borks my system, I'm down one shield tv until they release the restore image for 6.0). I'm actually surprised I couldn't find an answer for this here or in the nvidia forums.
Has no one has ever tried this, who is the brave soul that will test this on 5.2. If no one is brave enough than I will wait till the 6.0 factory images are released and I will be the Guinea Pig myself.

Didn't work, anyone have another solution besides market helper(now won't work on both shield tv's since 6.1 update) and sideloading apps. Editing the build.prop changed the device name when looking at device info but did nothing in the market (for letting me install non tv paid apps from the app store).

Found a fix, called the yalp store. Works great, spoofed my device to download the apk straight from the app store. Even worked on my paid apps. Got my root explorer updated and I'm playing zynga poker!!!

Is there any hope that Netflix will play on the iconia?
I would think that it would be a better choice to make Netflix work on tablets before phones but this just doesn't look like the way it is going to play out.
Can the iconia just not play video good enough or just being ignored by Netflix?

got an idea if anyone can do it
So I was messin around abit yesterday and had some brainbstorms yesterday. If you run Linux you can't run silverlihgt hence no Netflix via browser. However if you install the add on called moonlight through Firefox or chrome you can do a work around via desktop on PC and stream throuhg the browser. I believe the browser on the tab is a variant of chrome. Would it be possible to rebuild moonlight into an addon or apk for the browser either in debuged desktop compatibility mode as a work around. Thoughts?
I think back in April, the mono guys ( before most were laid off ) showed off a preview of moonlight for Android & it was good... but then they got laid off...
Anyway, I'm sure we'll get Netflix on our Iconias as soon as Netflix is able to guarantee DRM'd playback so the studios won't jump all over their butts.
Has anyone else seen the recent news on the Netflix app in the last 24 hours?
Version 1.3 adds support for 16 new devices, with the only Honeycomb tablet being a Lenovo one. However Xoom users report very high instances of the APK working on their tablets. Most Iconia users have reported the still remaining 12001 error. However you can no longer download Netflix from the market. I have rooted 3.1 and no go for me.
Several people have requested that the people trying it on the Iconia list their ROM / root status, however few have listened.
I'm on rooted OTA 3.1 and I manage to DL the Netflix app before the update and before they banned it from the market on the Iconina and when I open the app it prompted me to update. Attempted to update but I get the "the request could not be found" error from the market.
Even attempted to play with the version I had and I still got the 12001 error.
Btw, here something official from Acer:

Confirmed working with minimalist 3.2 and Asus Netflix patch also working with Acer stock rom 3.2 and Asus netflix. And I don't get any force closes which is awesome

What she said. I've been watching NetFlix movies for a few weeks now on my Iconia.
works for me fine on my wifes non rooted A500. I also have it working on my Transformer nonrooted
Here is a link for a version that works on all devices no patch, no extra lib. If you have Netflix installed already then clear data and uninstall first.

Did not work on my a500, running HoneyVillain 1.1, previously I had the patch file, placed back original lib file, cleared data & uninstalled Netflix, installed this version, getting error 120001.

This is working for me. Stock Iconia, 4 hours out of the box (Android 3.0.1) Rooted, no OTA updates. Netflix also did want me to update but I pressed cancel.
Running stock 3.1 rooted and have tried the official Netflix 1.4 app plus the one posted in this thread. Neither work....Hope either Netflix adds support or someone hacks an apk correctly soon.

+1. Tried em all to no avail. Don't feel a patch that cripples other functions of my device is a good one and will wait. Come on Netflix, get with it already...Hulu too...sigh.
DRM is what keeps us from bootlegging stuff isnt it? ive got netflix working on my a500, with a force close for the back camcorder. rooted. see below for versions.
someone want to help me understand DRM? i know it is to protect the people that make money from netflix, but since i have it working on my a500 and there is no DRM for the a500 according to netflix, what does that mean? how does DRM keep me from making copies? i installed the patch to my .so file. which i have a copy of the original if anyone needs it. but what does the patch do exactly? im not trying to rip off netflix, but i woukd like to understand how they are able to stop so many of us from accessing netflix.
So I just bought a refurbed unit from Acer and I wanted to rent a movie from Google. Went in to the video application to watch it and it says that the application is not supportee on rooted devices. How can I tell for sure if I have root access or not? I actually don't really want it as this thing is just fine for me without it. If it is indeed rooted is there any way to reverse it?
Sent from my A500 using xda premium
There is a app on the market called root checker..
with it being a refurb its very likely that your tab is a OPEN Box Someone rooted did not like and returned.. If this is the case you will need to find a full not rooted rom to flash to your device..
you can also tell if you are root by looking for any of the fallowing apps in your app drawer
root checker
busybox.
Su superuser
su updater app
Acer Recovery Installer..
post back with more about your system and rom verion and you can be better helped..

In the Android Market, there's a free app called Root Checker Basic. All the app does is check the status of your tab to tell you if it's rooted or not.
As a first step, I'd start there and see what it says your root status is.
Good luck to you....
Thanks guys, root checker says I do NOT have a rooted device, which is good news for me, but now I have to figure out why my google videos is not working. Or just ignore it and not use google vids because they're uncool bungholes who wont let people with root access stuff that they paid for. Netflix anyone?

I have netflix and it works very well. thou i do not like to use the app to add movies to my que . i do that thru browser when i hit play it opens the app.
Wish i could help with the google videos issue. But i do not use that . as well as not heard anything about them. You might could try the google android support. but its kinda lame..
Also go into setting / about tablet then / system updates.
to run update check.. current version is 3.2.1 ..
And you are very welcome
I keep flashing a custom themed version of Google Play but it keeps updating itself shortly after I install. I cannot find googleupdater.apk. I usually delete phonesky before I flash. Lucky patcher app doesn't work for it either. I am on 4.4.2. Anyone run into this before?

Edit....
Just noticed lucky patcher custom patch for self update

My problem is not with apps updating. Its with the play store itself updating. I want to stop it... don't know how. Anyone successful in this? Again, I'm on 4.4.2.

Did you read my edit about lucky patcher
Sent from my SPH-L720 using XDA Free mobile app
Yes... I did that. Lucky Patcher makes a phonesky.odex file that's supposedly meant to prevent an autoupdate but it still eventually auto updates phonesky.apk anyways, giving me the ugly normal play store.

Blah. .. stupid auto update
Sent from my SPH-L720 using XDA Free mobile app
After some digging around, apparently Google Services Framework seems to be the culprit. They have updated it in such a way that replacing it (and vending/phonesky.apk) with an older version causes it to stop working.
If you dare clear the data from GSF, You'll be unable to sign into Google nor the play store, and the only way to fix it is to factory reset or to restore a backup if you have one. This seems to be the case only if you're on 4.4.x. JB and ICS don't have this problem for some reason because I had no issues using a modded color themed version of Google Play.
Hopefully someone will take notice and create a fix.
Im running the stock rooted ROM on my Vz note 3, no desire to use the ROM slot overlay.
I can no longer get SuperSU to update, even with installing the beta versions.
Does anyone have a fix?
Thanks

Nope, I'm not using safestrap. Just running the native rooted ROM.

Rerun towelroot, reboot then try

Use root explorer or the equivalent, go into /data/app and locate eu.chainfire.supersu.apk and if you have the pro version, locate eu.chainfire.supersu.pro.apk (there may be a "-<number>" before the ".apk) and tap on them and you should get asked if you want to install or view. Install each.
That should fix the problem.

I did that, and it reinstalled/updated the current install, but I still cannot update. Is there a step I'm missing? I'm worried I'll need to factory reset at this point.
Sent from my SM-N900V using XDA Free mobile app
I'm having the same issues. I have even tried to install different SU apps to see if I could make it happen that way. Still no luck and I've done all of the above aside from factory reset...something I DON'T want to do...

Your best bet is to install safestrap and flash a supersu package. Then uninstall ss if u want. Towel root is a temporary fix imo.
Check your /data/data folder and /data/app (/system/app if you've converted) and check for duplicates or what number beside package name (e.g. com.xxx.xxxx-1 or -2 and sometimes even 3 and 4. Rename it to have a -1 and then go to /data/dalvik-cache and find the same package(s), delete them and reboot. If still unsuccessful, reflash from safestrap but manually mount system b4 flashing just for the hell of it and after second boot-up (if required), you should be good. Erase any .txt or the like from sdcard and extsdcard volumes from chainfire or supersu too I almost forgot to add
Got it to finally update binaries....upgrade your SU to Beta version 2.13. Works like a charm and snappier!
Just want to say thank you to everyone who replied with great suggestions, unfortunately none of them worked. I did however stumble on a fix. I downloaded mobogenie , and when it went out to look for app updates, it had an update for superSU that the play store did not show me. I ran the updates and now we're good.
Hope this fix might help others who are stuck in the same boat.

Thanks for the tip. Technology is complicated, it is weird how a random app like that will fix something.
My superSU actually works now, one day it just asked to update and it actually worked! I think that was after another fresh factory restore and towelroot.
Anyway, good luck!
Play store has a version that works fine now. Version 2.16
Hi, first of all, I bought my Nexus Player just to watch Netflix. Since I live in Brazil, at that time Netflix App for Android TV was not available here. Then I had to root my device to get Netflix working. Now Netflix won't work or install again because I rooted my device just to get Netflix! It would be funny if it wasn't so sad.
So, is there a way to make my Nexus Player "original" again, just like it was out of the box and be able to install / update Netflix again?
Thanks.
