3D launcher discussion - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Guides, News, & Discussion

I wasn't sure where to post this but I would like to start a discussion of 3D launchers if anybody is using one. I think this phone would be great for a 3D launcher. I was looking at Next shell but see that it hasn't changed in almost 2 years so I don't know if it is still being developed. If any of you are using a3D launcher please list the name, what you like about it, and what you dislike, and lakh the performance.

Anyone use alternate home launcher?

I love the speed of my iconia tab but I honestly thought swiping through honeycomb would be a little faster. Does anyone use alternate home launchers with their tablet? I don't know if this is possible or not. I love the interface so I'm content but just wanted to get people's opinion on this and any particular launchers they really like.
Sure is possible. I loaded go launcher ex just to try it out and it worked fine. I would like to know if anyone is using a launcher specifically for tablets though, if there is even any available.

Yeah, that's what I was really interested in. A launcher built for tablets would be something fun to mess around with. I feel like it could be tailored specifically for tablet functions. Possibly something like new windows 8.
ADW Launcher EX works, and is updated for honeycomb.honestly, though, its nothing revolutionary, none of the launchers are. I went back to stock. It may not be really fancy but it works, and well.
Have you checked out spb shell 3d for tablets? I don't think its out yet, but they have a concept video, and it Looks amazing. There's a thread on here with the link, in the general section.

The one in the video doesn't exist, and the one that is out now doesn't work on the iconia. And you're not missing much, I messed with it on an X and it was just plain laggy
I'm using Launcher Pro with great results.
I 've got ADW Launcher on my phone so I tried it on the Iconia. Even though it's a great launcher, for me it didn't cut it. It made the tab look rather like a big phone. It would be nice to have a launcher that preserves the tablet feeling.
I'm sure it's only a matter of time for Tablet specific launchers to roll out.
Personally, however, I feel that they got to step up their game to make something that adds more functionality and is more efficient than what the stock HC launcher provides. I'm not into all the eye-candy - its function over form for me. (pointing my finger at SPB)
It was easy to raise the bar with Eclair on up to Gingerbread as those OS' were built for the phone and those environment were rapidly evolving (and in some cases, differently from manufacturer to manufacturer) - with Honeycomb and the tablet environment third party launcher developers have had the bar raised on them (in terms of usability, efficiency and hardware) so in my opinion, it could be tougher for them to step it up.
Time will tell.
If anything - I would like to see support for skinning the tablet. 1 skinning app, developers build skins - release skins - users downloaded skins - use skinning app to apply skins. Done.

Looks interesting, thanks for the links. Androids one strength definitely is the ability to modify it to look and behave exactly as any individual personally wants it to.
Duplicate thread? One already exists for the best launchers
Though they do look nice.
Theylook interesting but none of them mention, changing icons thats a must for me and my launcher of choice!
They both look great. Thanks!

Go Launcher! Go!
go launcher ex is my personal choice, been using it when was on the hd2
The TSF looks really fluid im wondering if the locked the governor into performance mode for that clip.
I like LauncherPro

I am a big fan of Go and ADW, but I will ditch them in a split second if TSF Shell Pro runs that well on the note.
I'm not sure about these launchers. It's amazing to see the youtube clips but I've got the feeling that with so many bells and whistles they may be limiting in a way. It can be difficult to find matching widgets and icons so you may end up kinda stuck with what you got out of the box.
My personal preference is a launcher that's simple, "transparent", highly customizable and with really good performance.

Next Launcher vs SPB Shell 3D vs TSF Shell

So, which one of these three is the best? I really can't decide. The TSF Shell looks a little better than the SPB Shell... And which one is better in terms of performance and battery saving?

I used all 3.
Next Launcher ====> what a waste. very less features plus are copied from TSF and SPB. big NO
SPB ===========> nice, innovative but still so many unwanted memory blocking stuff given.. you can give a try
TSF ============> Best ever launcher for me (only on CM as Aurora is very heavy on RAM). Awesome themes and nice effects. Almost everything you want in a launcher, plus m waiting to check their updated version which is going to be released on 28th Feb 13

I agree with you...Next Laucher has a long way to go before it gets as popular as Go Launcher once was... Abaout SPB, it isn't bad, but I don't like the widget layout (for example, the clock uses a hole "slot" (Can't remember of a better word)).
TSF is just awesome...It has, as you said, nice effects, and so much great stuff I can't remember right now... The only thing I can point right now is the absence of the static bar, which will be added in teh next update, So, after the next update, it will be the best launcher.

TSF is the best. Extremely smooth but takes lots of RAM.
TSF shell is my best and only launcher
Next Launcher is best for me

Next Launcher is best for me. I have a Samsung Galaxy S I9000 with firmware I9000xxjw4 and JellyBeanRom JW4. For me it is the best. I'd recommend it.

TSF Shell
Sorry for my english,
I use TSF Shell since a long time (S2 Note S3 S4).
I have this bug on my Galaxy S3 and my S4 :
Never remember default home app (Already reseted cache/data of any other app / I have only touchwizz) I muse select TSF at each reboot
It do the same with FACTORY hard reset : Same bug on galaxy S3 and S4.
On the last version I can't add a shortcut inside any folder, the shortcut is not remembered if I restart TSF !!!!!!!
This launcher *LOOK LIKE* the best (3D, 60FPS, many options), but it's a *P I T A* to keep working every day and every update.
Developer NEVER do correct regression testing. Each update is a PAIN.
Developer never answer seriously, only F&#{I?G cut&past DUMB emails.
After several years of use, I love the 3D and animation quality of this launcher, but I seriously think to ABANDON permanently.

New Launcher idea request

Im thinking about putting together a new launcher exclusively for the Ouya. I see a few have arised but died over time so id like to build one that gets alot of users and support.
Just wanna see these forums spark up. We have a great device but appearance and style is important to alot of people so i think thats why alot of people look down on the ouya.
It will only be for stock firmware and for both rooted/non-rooted users and work beside the ouya store launcher.
Id like to see some request and il see what i can put together. Its a game console, not a tablet, not a phone and all those 3rd party launchers make it feel more like an original device and not a console
Sent from my XT912 using Tapatalk
That would be great, I'm looking forward to try this. Anytime you want to test something, please let me know...
I think XBMC (for the most part) is the ideal "launcher" for any console. Really the stock Ouya launcher is pretty good, at least in terms of appearance. I'd be happy to test a launcher (or possibly contribute) as well. I've written a few Android apps, no launchers though. I'll be done with summer classes in a couple weeks (still work full time though), so I could definitely lend a hand if you wanted.
Take a look at custom ouya launcher which was really great replacement for the stock launcher unfortunately it's not updated any more but I think it did a lot of things right, more customisation would have been nice, like reordering apps but the dev stopped updating. Here's a link to the old forum
http://ouyaforum.com/showthread.php?6515-Custom-OUYA-Launcher
I still use this over the stock launcher

I would love a launcher specifically for the ouya. The original launcher has no options and limited capability. It would be nice to have a custom launcher with the ouya discover store integrated... But I know that is probably a ton of work. So just a good "TV oriented" launcher would be really nice.
..

Launcher... why yes but which one are you using?

what launcher you are using and why
I have used many launchers and it seems though some are smaller size wise most use up to the 123mb that TW uses (this includes unread plugins and such) even Trebuchet from CM is using from 99-122mb.
Just wondering if there is a gem hiding that I havent used
Favorites
Zeam- too old has issues now
Nova- memory hog
Apex- out of date
Lightning- uses alot of memory
KEEP IT CLEAN AND POLITE. ALL COMMENTS AND OPINIONS ARE WELCOME :good:
Mods if it gets out of hand or if it feels irrelevant feel free to remove post or clean post at will. Thank you in advance for all your hard work
Touchwiz! ?
Stuck on GoLauncher... I know it's heavy , but so used to it.. Will move to something simpler soon
Nova prime is still the best, it's been regularly updated and has the best customizations. Every launcher is a memory hog, so you might as well choose the best lol
Sent from my SM-N910T using Tapatalk
Been using Nova launcher for years now and have never regretted my decision, even after using alternatives like golauncher, apex, trebuchet, etc I would still find myself reinstalling nova. Another reason for my love for it is the constant updates and implementation of new animations each time a new Android version comes out, it is versatile and as surprised as I am to hear people point out is a memory hog this is one issue I have never experienced.
true would be nice though to have a truly light weight launcher.
Using Mihome launcher
Nova launcher, prime. Worth the donation, and the devs maintain it. I bought ADW a long time ago, but it's growing cobwebs.
Anybody use the sense 7 launcher and apps?
Nova
Nova, because of the ability to have a scrollable dock. I have 5 pages (25 icons) there, so I almost never need to use the app drawer.
I love the tsf 3d launcher and use it with the lines icon pack. Comes with its own weather widget which I love

Smart launcher works best for me
I know that I'm inviting hate by saying it, but I'm using the Google Now Launcher on my Galaxy Note 4 N910T. Used Nova religiously my my GS3 and Note 2, then got a Nexus 5 on launch day and got hooked on Google Now. Haven't really tried anything since, though I might revisit the launcher scene if I'm looking to change things up.
I'm still on stock ROM, but using Nova Launcher. I think I misread the poll and voted stock. Sorry.
Nova or Apus launcher
no hate for the Google now laucher, if you use it as its meant it is pretty sweet and has good functionality. I myself tried out Windows launcher wasn't super impressed that's why I use android lol
