I have set up "OK Google" to recognize my voice from screen off.
This works great, however, when I use it, it requires me to enter my PIN/fingerprint to show the results.
Is there any way to turn this off? I find it kind of silly that I have to do that every time.
And as far as security reasons, the phone won't respond to anyone else, so it's not like someone would be able to "OK Google" and unlock my phone, unless they sound exactly like me.

I've been having this issue as well, I've been meaning to start a thread about it. It seems that trusted voice isn't working correctly - this is meant to unlock the device when it responds to your voice. Well that's my understanding anyway.
Ah I see what is missing. You have to enabled "Trusted Voice" in the security settings for smart lock. Once I did this, it now unlocks with OK Google.

I've already got this enabled yet 90% of the time it still brings up the PIN screen.
I too was confused by this. I was like.. well google now from screen off is totally useless if I have to unlock the phone after making my request. lol
All is good now. Thanks for the tip.

Unfortunately, trusted voice matching is still hit and miss. It can depend on the environment when you talk to it, or even on you if you have a cold or something else that effects you. The best option is to try retraining the voice recognition in the ok google settings; I had to do that once when I had a particularly poor match up.

Surely though if the phone responds to my "OK Google" and wakes it up it has recognised it as me though so should work?

While I don't have documentation to support my understanding, the best I've been able to put together is that "trusted voice" and "hotword detection" operate on different levels of accuracy. When you train it to recognize "Ok Google" in order to launch voice commands, it's attempting to better recognize you based on your enunciation and potential accent, where as the trusted voice is actually trying to match further, perhaps with things such as tone and pitch, in order to authenticate that its really you. For example, after training my phone, I can use "Ok google" to launch into voice commands when the phone is unlocked, or to bypass the unlock requirement when the phone is locked and execute a voice command. My wife, if she tries to immitate the way I say the phrase, can get my phone to launch into voice commands when the phone is unlocked, but if she tries while the phone is locked, it will require a PIN entry. It seems to be the same situation as what you're describing.
To me, this is exactly how it should work.

You should retrain your voice model then. Be sure to speak naturally and at a distance that you'd be speaking at the phone normally. I always practice a few times before hand to make sure I don't sound robotic like I am talking to an automated operator. "Speak to a representative..... Speak to a representative.... SPEAK TO A REPRESENTATIVE!"
You can use this app to pass that policy: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.luutinhit.doubletapscreenoff
I'm not sure if im right but ive tried it 6-7 times and there is a major security glitch in the phone.
Here it goes:
When the screen is locked ( protected by finger print authentication and pattern lock), if u trigger the OK GOOGLE command ( not by pressing the microphone button in the lock screen) and ask it a question , it will bypass the authentications and direct u to the google answer screen and if u tap the middle home button the phone unlocks itself.
maybe its just my phone or am i missing something?

This glitch does not exist on my phone. If I press the home button from the OK GOOGLE page, it takes me back to the lock screen. It is still locked and only unlocks after I authenticate.
Sent from my KFASWI using Tapatalk
Long press on home screen and then press on settings.
Go to voice -> ok google detection and then turn off trusted voice.
It's not a bug. It just recognizes your voice but its not safe. As the feature is not accurate it may unlock even with others voice. Better turn off trusted voice. The voice command works even from lock screen works if your turn on option to Ok google from any app.
When i use it it says that the screen is locked and won't open my contacts
Try this

In Google app setting, go to 'Voice' > "Ok Google' Detection > and then check if the Trusted Voice is On or Off. If it is On then turn it Off. I hope this will help.

this worked tyvm
I'm considering purchasing the G5 Plus. I currently have a Droid Turbo and love all the Moto Actions and features they include. One of the features I was bummed to see not make it to the G5 is Moto Voice.
I'm aware of Google Assistant, but at least on my phone, it doesn't work if it's locked and not charging (Moto Voice can). Can someone confirm if this is still the case on the G5? Figured I'd check in case this works differently from phone to phone or perhaps was introduced in Nougat.
Thanks!
I have the moto g5 plus and I tried google assistant it works perfectly even in locked screen and screen is off it recognise the voice and unlocks phone and start listening but I didn't tried while charging I think that works there also.
Huh, mine doesn't. I have the trusted voice set up, but only works when unlocked.
Same here, only works when unlocked.
Shoot. That's what I was afraid of. Really sucks that removed Moto Voice. I use it all the time for this very reason.
Thanks for the confirmation all.
I can't speak with other phones, but my LG G4 is the same way. Google Assistant doesn't work if the screen is off and not charging. If I charge it or if I hit the button to power it up to the lockscreen, it works.
I can't speak from experience, but you should be able to either download the app from Google Play or install the apk. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.motorola.audiomonitor&hl=en
Hey guys I checked again ok google works on moto g5 plus even when screen is locked just go to the google Assistant settings>"ok google" detection>turn on ok google detection anytime ,turn on trusted voice , turn on detection on google maps then everything works flawlessly. I also have screenshot but it says you can't post it here.
Well bro thats not true its not possible on the G5 plus as I have it and experienced it. What u r saying is possible i.e. unlock screen from voice but that requires the phone to be in charging or the screen turned on it wont work when ur screen is turned off
It worked for me from locked screen. I turn assistant off and back on through settings and it worked.
Moto G5S Plus, works with Google Assistant when screen is off
Found a workaround to allow Moto G5S Plus to recognize voice when screen is off, even with lock screen on. Make sure you turn on Trusted Voice.
1. Install "Screen Off (No Lock)" from the Google Play store.
2. Install a program to make phone stay awake. I use an app that is accessible through Google Play as well called "Nougat / Oreo quick settings", Once this is installed, enable toggle for a.setting called "Caffeine." I use this so I can access the setting fast.
To use, all you need to do now is enable "Caffeine" mode from notification settings in drop-down. Use Google Assistant command. Say "Open Screen Off." The screen will turn off and not lock. With, "OK Google", the screen will now turn back on from screen off.
This is just a temporary workaround. Especially good for driving when hands are not available!
Assuming the phone is not locked
Most of the time "ok Google" works from a black screen on mine, as good as it did on the Pixel Xl.
Yep, it works even if the screen is locked with a password, pin or fingerprint. Just make sure trusted voice is turned on, in security settings.
Hi Guys, interested in this phone but does it have screen off ok google detection???
Thanks
It has it, but doesnt work see the screenshots. I am able to use google assistant over BT headphones when phone locked. When headphones disconnected, phone doesnt react on OK google command...
Are there any options to enable ok google with screen off? My old Galaxy S8 detected ok google with screen off. Miss that a little bit
