My data plan is provided through my work and evidently doesn't include the ability to hotspot. My S7 is rooted and I'm wondering if there's a workaround to allow me to create a hotspot? My googling hasn't turned up anything...

Has anyone been able to get WiFi Tether to work without rooting their device? Picked up a Blackberry Priv for work and it's a great device. Considering getting one for personal use on Verizon.
I often use a WiFi tethering and I had no problem with that functionality. You can enable the tethering in the settings menu or using the quick settings dropdown; no rooting of a device is needed or even using additional applications.

Thanks for responding! Do you have WiFi tethering added on your service plan? This is the reason for needing root.
If you have a plan that doesn't allow tethering (like Straight Talk), it will be blocked. No workaround in sight.
Has anyone managed to make a WiFi hotspot work on carriers/plans blocking it like the old Verizon unlimited data plan? I remember reading for the nexus 6 that if you pop the sim card out, enable the hotspot, then pop it in it will work. Has anyone found anything like that? I'd really like a phone with a keyboard but I won't give up the hotspot function.
So I just rooted my phone mainly to use hotspot and I can't get it to work. I'm on cricket wireless and when I tried turning it on I got an error saying I had to pay for the add-on.
Did a quick search and tried putting net.tethering.noprovisioning=true at the end of my build.prop and that got the hotspot to turn on. But when I actually connect on my laptop I get a limited connection and can't actually load any webpages. Any way to get it working fully?
I am on Verizon and the hotspot worked right off the bat with no modifications. I am on a old grandfather unlimited data plan. At least about as unlimited as you get these days. I do not have the hotspot activated on my plan.
I have an Essential phone that replaced a LG G5. The Essential is not rooted, I have an app that I use to gain access to the Hotspot Tethering settings.
When I turn it on, I am able to tether my previous LG G5. But am unable to tether any other phone to it. It will connect, but no internet available. Any guesses?
Carrier blocked probably. Add net.tethering.noprovisioning=true to the build.prop. You need root though. I know you said you're not rooted though. Essential or Google seems to have fixed tether blocking in the past several months.
If you should have tethering on your account I'd contact support or your carrier.
I'm trying to set my phone up as a hotspot so the fam and I can play pokemon together but its a locked option and I haven't figure out a way to access it.
I have the Paid version of PDANet but everytime my phone updates it tries to block usage to it and I have to keep trying to hack the APN settings.
Now im at the point that no matter what I do, I just cant get it to work through PDAnet. they fixed all the bugs that allowed me to work around it.
Is there a way to access the sim to enable the hotspot or any suggestions?
