So I'm torn between two options. A PS3 controller + gameklip, and the Moga Pro. Specifically with 4.3.
With our lack of a self powered USB OTG, and the recent changes in Bluetooth from 4.2 onward, what is the "best" controller to use with our N4s?
Rooting is not a problem. As most reviews of android game controllers revolve around not having to be rooted, and having USB OTG support.
I'm leaning towards the Moga Pro with its built in clip, and dual connection mode. (Bluetooth HID, and the Moga app.)
Anyone has experience using both controllers on the N4?
Edit: wasn't sure if to post here or in the Q&A forum. Since the question itself is about accessories. If a mod deems necessary, please move this thread.

I haven't use the Moga so i'm posting for no reason...ha
But I really do love the ps3 controller using an app by the same name from the play store. It really is great how you can image map and such. That being said, there is a Moga thread in this forum somewhere and you might get better results there. Id be interested to hear about the comparison though.

Yeah, the compatibility of the ps3 seems to be the best. The ability to map buttons to screen presses seems to be the best way to make any game work, whether it has controller support or not.
I've heard of lag issues of using Bluetooth and WiFi at the same time with the Moga, not sure if these issues were ever fixed or not. Are they present with the ps3 controller? I have unlimited mobile data, but reception is obviously better on WiFi than mobile while inside my house.
The main thing stopping me from using the PS3 controller is the price. Once I buy an official controller plus the gameklip, you're looking at almost $80 after taxes and/or shipping.
I've been watching craigslist and might start looking at local pawn shops to see if I can find a used ps3 controller at a better price. (Unlike GameStop which gives you a whole $5 off for a used controller)
Edit: and while i asked for opinions from those who have used both, I'm more than open to hear from those who have used one or the other. I just want opinions from people who actually use one of these devices on a N4 with 4.3.

hello my friend, i recently purchased the moga pro controller to play with my n4, and im absolutly happy about it, the control feels really nice in your hand, like really nice..i've been playing a lot mc4,riptide gp2, asphalt 8, shadowgun deadzone and a few more, and they all run perfectly with no laggs, i repit, 0 lagg xD... i've been playing some emulator aswell, using the moga universal driver controller, and it runs just fine , playing zelda ocarina of time on this bad boy is really awesome , i have tried sixasis controller, but for like 2-3 days, and it was ok, but u need a gameklip to play with, and the set up for mapping is a bit strange to me ( i dont know why) setting up the moga controller was not a problem, is really easy to set up.
i hope this help to you, if u have any question for the moga pro controller, just ask
grettings
(pardon for my english)

I'm not sure if it will work but I think ziddeys kernel can work...its a modded version of Franco's...it supports OTG...but ul need an OTG cable with external power...
I'm currently using it with flash drives, Mouse, card readers,etc...but I'm not sure if a game controller might work or not...
Here's the link to the kernel...

I'm on 4.3 rasbean, I use both ps3 controller and the moga controller. I use the ps3 controller when my phone is connected to the TV. I stream my pc, and I play fps and emulators on the TV, it's like a little console for me. Moga works great for the road doesn't work with my pc streaming app but works great with other apps like gta.
Both worked well with Franco and I haven't noticed lag with them. I use them often. Both work great, but Moga doesn't work with everything like kainy my pc streaming app, I play Diablo 3 with the ps3 controller
What's gameklip?

I will have to check out kainy, that's one feature I loved about the nvidia shield. While the streaming app sounds awesome, I honestly only see myself using it with diablo iii. KB/mouse > controller for fps. Strategy games have too many buttons. Diablo is honestly perfect.
The phone will be the screen. I won't be hooking it up to the television. I'll wait for a dedicated device for that.
Gameklip is a ~$20 plastic clip that will hold your phone onto the ps3 controller. Much like the Moga will hold your phone. A little pricey, but from all the reviews its a very well made clip.

For you it sounds like you need to sell the Moga and get a gameklip.

I had an Ipega, it wasn't great. Really want to try a Moga but they're still too expensive in the UK.
So I am sure plenty of you guys know Sixaxis has been given a lot of us a really big problem and a lot of people are rooting (and voiding warranties) just to find out that Sixaxis doesn't pair with TN7.. Has ANYONE been able to get this to work with their TN7 wirelessly. If so please explain exactly what you had to do to achieve this. I really don't want to buy another controller and I like Sixaxis software. I have never gotten Sixaxis to work with the TN7 using Bluetooth, but I had it working with my now sold Nexus 7, although I did have some issues then.
I've gotten a dualshock 3 to work using USB/BT center Gold, an OTG cable, and a Bluetooth dongle.

I do wish Wii controllers and Dualshock/Sixaxis controllers would work with the built-in blue tooth.

afaik it doesnt. Was discussed in another thread here, someone said the n7 has similar bluetooth drivers like the <insert device where sixasis doesnt work>.
alternative is 360 controller, dont know about the wireless version, but wired works perfekt.
Cheers for that m8 think will just save pennies for Bluetooth controller anyone know a good one for the note seven ?

I have a Moga Pro that pairs just fine, but that thing is prone to some serious lag sometimes. I just plug my PS3 controller in with an OTG cable and it works fine, no root or anything. It's funny, Nyko's Playpad is supposed to be the "official" controller of this thing, but I've read people having a lot of issues with those as well. I also remember seeing one random post of someone using one of the GameStop controllers with theirs, and they gave the impression that it worked fine but didn't really say so.
Thanks for your comment on sixaxis using otg cable, I have sixaxis app as I purchased for my last tablet but as mentioned here it won't work on tegra note as Bluetooth driver isn't compatible
I purchased a steel series free mobile whilst in USA but didn't get on with it so was wondering about ps3 pad via otg cable and sixaxis app - would prefer wireless but I like the pad and remapping abilities
Sent from my TegraNote-P1640 using Tapatalk
I have the SixAxis app, but I've never had to use it with this tablet; PS3 controllers will work through USB with no additional software required. The only need for it would be remapping, and come to think of it, I'm not sure if you can remap controls in the SixAxis app without it being connected via BT... I've never tried.
Oh, and damianiw, you might wanna check your signature... judging by the "Sent from my TegraNote-P1640" in your post, you're no longer "soon to own" one of these Welcome to the club!
Man, I'm kind of bummed that I got this nice tablet with the features I wanted but have run smack into a Bluetooth comparability wall. I can't synch Wii or Wii U Pro controllers to it. To get PS3 controllers to work I have to use an app, an adapter, and an OTG cable, which means I can't game and charge.
Some of the most fun I had with my Acer A500 was hooking it up to HDMI out, plugging in the charger, synching up some Wii remotes with classic controllers and playing through Seiken Densetsu 3 with my friends. I was hoping to be able to replicate that with a smaller more powerful tablet but looks like that can't happen for a while if at all.

you need to use the Nyko Playpad pro, they work perfectly over bluetooth and are endorsed by Nvidia for use on both the Tegra Note 7 and Nvidia Shield - (both packing Tegra 4's).

I just received my PlayPad Pro today and I've got to say I'm pretty disappointed, especially after reading a few decent reviews. There are very noticeable deadzones on the sticks, the shoulder buttons are spongy and uncomfortable to use which is annoying as they are used more in games than the better quality triggers.
Maybe I've been spoilt, having used the SixAxis app on my last tablet which was just awesome. It's a real shame we can't get that working with the PS3 pad on the TN7, as that is far far superior to this PlayPad Pro.
Seems that they finally got screen casting to completely work in the recent CM updates. Including a photo I took of my TV casting my screen. Sadly this is only able to just show that the camera is on making the TV endlessly repeat but it shows that it is working. I was able to play games and watch videos and the sound even went to the TV as well. If I hook up my wireless mouse with my otg cable and connect my Bluetooth keyboard I'll be set with the biggest screen I've ever seen android on.

Its only going to get better too. There's already so many more apps that work with it than there were a few months ago when I bought it. Screen mirroring was something people only talked about and wished could happen back then. You needed to have a miracast to screen mirror but even then it doesn't work like it doesn't on the Chromecast, im only noticing a latency of a fraction of a second. Enough to make playing games through your TV a little tricky but still doable.
very suprised dualshock 4 controllers work natively with otg cable... very nice combined with mirroring

This has worked wonders for me in my new car.
Now, I no longer need the MHL adapter and huge bulky HDMI cable to hook up to my stock in dash car radio screen.
Just the HDMI to RCA converter and the Chromecast. Works great!!!!!!! and takes up less space.

If I recall right, DS4 compatibility was within the Linux kernel, and was improved somewhat recently. But in any case, it is pretty nice that it works
I've been screen mirroring for a couple months now with a rooted Chromecast.

That's great - if you have a Chromecast that can be rooted
Hey.
As i have got the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 a little over a week ago, i figured out that the phone is perfect for pocket gaming.
However, i need a very good gaming controller before it can be perfect for that. Before i asks about the controllers i will just tell that i have the MHL 2.0 to HDMI adapter to my phone, so i can plug my phone to the TV. So i just need the controller.
I have been looking at 2 alternatives that looks to be good.
1: Moga Pro Mobile Gaming System.
2. Samsung Wireless GamePad.
I'm looking at those 2 because they have the ability to carry the phone if you are not close to a TV. I just want to hear what you guys / peoples here thinks about those to gaming controllers and which of those are the best?
Ofc, i'm open to other controllers (that can hold the phone) to as long as you can give a good explanation on why you would choose another gaming controller.
And lastly, as i'm living in Norway, i'll guess i can use Amazon.co.uk to buy a controller and get it sent to Norway right?
what is the best bluetooth game controller for my note 4?
I have already ordered a TN7 on amazon. Despite being over a year old it has an extreme value for money at 9000rupees.(150$). I want to play games with my dualshock 4 on the tab. So–
1. Can my ds4 connect to TN7 by sixaxis app or usb otg?
2.If yes, then will sony game control mount and nyko smart clip for ds4 fit the tab?
3.If both fits, then which one is better in reliability and ease of use?
The sixaxis app is supposed to support Dualshock 4 controllers now but I don't know if it will work with the TN7. The TN7 has had issues pairing with PS3 controllers over bluetooth in the past so I would be weary of PS4 controller support though I was able to finally get my PS3 controller to pair last night. It should however work using OTG, my PS3 controller always did.
After look at them I don't think either of those mounts are going to work. The Sony uses a suction cup and the back of the TN7 is textured so I can't see that working. The nyko is listed as being for phones up to 3.5" wide and the TN7 is 4.75". Some people in the comments have said it fits 7" and 8" tablets but others say it doesn't so there is no guarantee that it will work.

I tried using a otg cable but it's like kind of a hit or miss thing. It sometimes connects and works well. Sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it disconnects. Same happens to flash drives.
Does it works well on your tegra note?
I have never had an issue with flash drives or controllers connecting on mine. Maybe your OTG cable is defective.
Yeah. That might be the case. Can you post a link to the cable you use?(if you've bought it online)
