Hi All,
With Google Assistant officially official on Android TV, how to get it on Nexus Player, which technically should be getting it first. Any way, is there a work around to enable it in Nexus Player with Oreo?
Thanks

Someone on reddit posted the ARM version, i don't think that will work on x86
Finally it's work
just download this file:
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/googl...ndroid-tv-android-tv-3-0-1-172043791-release/
and install it in your Nexus Player
I know its for arm not x86 (nexus player) but its work , I download and install it in my Nexus Player and work 100%
Now I have Google Assistant

Thanks a lot,
I was affraid of try that version until I read your post.
By the way, it works on Nexus Player, but not as good as I wish.
Anyway waiting for the NEXT UPFATE (VERSION) to see if it works better.
It kind of hard to listen your complete Question or Command,
and after frst question you need to close and reopen Google Assintance to maka a new question,
is very lag so far.
Waiting next update of "Google App for Android TV"

Yesterday, I noticed that the OTA update had added GA, but every time I press the microphone button the device shows the "Meet your Google Assistant" welcome page.
Factor Reset, un-installed and reinstalled the Google App, all without success. :/
Thoughts?

I noticed the latest update with November Security Patch is supposed to have Google Assistant now. I recently bought an nVidia Shield TV device which also has Google Assistant (well was the first device to get it anyway) and it works flawlessly on that device (which currently runs 7.1.2).
I'll have to hookup my NP tonight and update it to see how it works. Mine is running Oreo but I disconnected it when I picked up the Shield TV last weekend. My NP is fully stock, and I did read that GA was a little quirky with the Nexus remote and it was suggested to use your mobile device for a better experience with it. Anyway, point is, I'll hook mine up tonight, update it and check it out. Let you know how it goes [emoji6]

Doesn't work on mine. No errors or anything it just doesn't show up when I go to cast. Same results with my gtv vizio co star. Works perfectly fine on my N4/7 though.
I tried it on mine last night. I only tried youtube from my phone. It switched into youtube mode, but just displayed a wierd logo in the middle. like it didn't have the codec or something.
I might try google music. but it kinda seemed like perhaps we don't have a specific library or something like that. Hopefully someone more skilled then me can figure it out!
I got a htc evo 4g lte and it works on mine but you have3 to have youtube on both devices I wasn't able to get google music to work
For me youtube and google music are working both.
Using cheapcast on the ouya and remotecast (beta) from the playstore on my phone (jiayu g3).
(but google play was already working on my ouya)
Greetz,
CheapCast works on the Ouya, but you have to be connected over Wifi. Ethernet does not work.
There are two bugs written against this:
https://github.com/mauimauer/cheapcast/issues/10
https://github.com/mauimauer/cheapcast/issues/8
Having ethernet connected results in the app returning the loopback address in the device-desc.xml, which causes it to not show up in the list of available devices. In my experience, when it does this due to being connected to ethernet, you have to reboot the Ouya with the ethernet unplugged for it to start working and show up as an available device in Chromecast enabled apps.
App has moved in the play store. This is the new address

Worked Great

Worked for me as well but now I'm having an issue with the playstore
1. 1.5GB free storage GTA VC is 1.3GB
2. Installing app says insufficient storage space even though there was enough
3. app failed to install but left the files it downloaded for the game somewhere on the OUYA and I can't seem to find it to delete
4.Looking for temp/cache files from the playstore I know they are somewhere but where exactly using root file explorer to try and find the files/file with no luck
5.I'm assuming this is a common/know problem it can be fixed with a factory reset but I would rather learn where the issue comes from as I see it often on devices with small storage spaces
Any help would be awesome guys trying to get my posts up So I can post in the DEV forum i've been rooting and modding since the iphone and T-mobile G2 so I understand most issues that I come across this one is just driving me NUTZZZ lol
maybe you can try

Try to shorten the Cheapcast Friendly name.
When I change it from "Cheapcast_Barn&Noble Nook HD+" to "Cheapcast_NookHD+", it starts to work!
Before I change it, my phone(AT&T Galaxy I(NOT II)) was NOT able to even detect the Cheapcast service/device.
Hope it helps!
I was having a similar issue with a WIRED PC connected on the same network as the Ouya going through WIFI. I fixed the problem by putting my Ouya in DMZ mode in the router configuration. BOOM! It works now with all my devices. (Asus Nexus 7, Optimus Elite, and Windows 8 PC). You will know when the Ouya has Cheapcast configured right on your network if your (updated) Youtube app starts the tutorial right when you launch the Youtube app on your Android Devices showing you how to stream to your new "Chromecast".
I know I could stream Grim Fandango Remastered from my pc but I do not have a Nvidia card only the intergrated Intel HD graphics. Fangdango is available for android but it is not compatible with any of my devices if it were I would d/l it and then sideload it. What can I do?
Do you have any devices that it is compatable with? If so, you can install it there, and move the APK.
..
Every device I have is rooted but the only one that is registered that is compatible is the Nexus 9 but I returned it because it was running very hot and bought the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 SM-T800 which my daily device now. It is rooted and running a custom 5.0.2 rom. I tried every device option available with Market Helper but Grim Fandango still did not show in the play store. I tried using my chrome browser and going to the play store and Grim Fandango would show but it still only showed it being compatible with the Nexus 9. Strange when I clicked on the play store compatibility list the device I was spoofing was not there. I double checked the device manager page and it showed that the device had ben changed to the spoofed one. Am I doing something wrong?

That's what you want. With market helper, it doesn't change the play store on the device. You have to install it on the web interface to the spoofed device. The play store on your device will update all installed apps though luckly, supported or not.
But, the spoofed device is not showing up in my compatibility list. The list is still only showing the original list. I am using the play store through Chrome browser. I'm starting to feel like a noob again! ?
..
So, I definitely have to use a pc. I thought since there was a in app link to the Android device mgr there was no need to use the pc.

I didn't have to use a pc. I used chrome browser installed on the shield. Just refreshed a few times in that and the spoofed device showed up.

Yes, it works on the shield. You have to install via web browser, but the device does the rest.

Back on topic, did you manage to get this working?
To be honest, I have been sidetracked most of this week with an addition I am adding to my home. I will try this coming week and post results.
No I could not get it to work, it kept crashing. There is a version of it ln the Nvidia Store but it is only for the Shield tablet. How hard would it be to port it to the NSATV. I guess Nvidia would have to ask Doublefine for permission or else Doublefine would have to do it themselves? How does one bring this to Nvidias attention?
any updates whit grim fandango on android tv?
Its on sale this weekend

Guide works, but when I get into Play after entering my user name and password, it just says "No Connection" and gives a Retry button. I've uninstalled and reinstalled everything, rebooted, etc and I keep getting that. My Wi-Fi is on and working. Any ideas?

I'm having the same issue. Anyone find a fix?
This only works on the 5th Gen 7" Model. Will not work on the 7" HD Model.
Cool. I am mostly looking to install some good weather app and turn my tablet into an always on weather station. Being my first Fire tab I'm not really sure how to get there. But this looks like a path for me!
I'm thinking I just want to install SOme weather app (there are a bunch) and set it up to never sleep, and always run the app when tablet boots (there are several apps in the play store that do this).
Any thoughts for a newbie?

Yes you have to sign up for the developer program to get the update. Sign in to amazon and then go to this link https://developer.amazon.com/public/solutions/platforms/android-fireos and on the right side is a orange developer sign up button. Follow through those steps and you'll get the update.

Force stop, clear data and uninstall the update, reboot the NP and let it update Google Cast again. Also, if you have more than one NP give the players a unique name in the About section within Settings.
I did all of this and I'm still unable to cast to my Nexus Player. Doesn't make any sense...

It's so weird. It works fine on mine. They're both updated with the latest Android updates. I also have the Chromecast app installed on my phone, I don't know if it even makes a difference but I am just trying to think of things that I have done.
You have the casting app updated? From Reddit: The problem didn't have to do with either Marshmallow or the most recent APK update (though the timing was understandably suspicious), but we're pushing an updated APK that resolves the actual issue.
You should see version 1.16.45911 (Settings > Google Cast) once you've updated.
You could try to downgrade the app if it still doesn't work: http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google...ast-receiver-1-12-28389-android-apk-download/

That's the Chromecast receiver version I have. I read on reddit and here and some people has the same issues but no fixes apparently. I'm not saying its MM, just that it's not working.
I might do a factory reset this weekend (thus losing root) to see if it gets fixed. Either that or just live without Casting...
I just had to reboot my router

Free APK to send chrome cast content (screen cast and tab cast) to your fire tv. It supports any fire tv.
Instructions:
side load the APK to your Fire TV
Version 1.2
This is not my work but it is verified to work and it does not contain any ads or any limitations
Hello!
Thank you very much for this app. I sideloaded on my FTVS and it works great with Spotify. Unfortunately I can't detect it with any other app like Chrome / Youtube... Is this app able to cast only sound?
I was able to test it with chrome tab cast and screen mirroring from Windows computer
Install Google Home on your tablet, phone, whatever and go to cast screen.
This works great. Just gonna keep stuff like roms\emulators on my tablet primarily now.
Thank you!
Hi, thanks for apk. Unfortunately it doesn't work for me. I have installed your apk and googleHome Cast app. Moreover i installed the google play service for android tv. On my phone and my PC i can see the new "tv-stick-chromecast-device", but i don't can see anything if i try to send something from Phone or PC to the Stick. After opening the Chromecast app i tried to go to cast screen, but there is no device found. What i'm doing wrong, please help me. Thank you.
greetings
Sideloaded also and works perfect!!
Works perfect for me on fire stick 2nd gen nice one is it a full one or a trial ?
VERY cool!
It took me several times to get it to cast but it is works.
I hope this app sticks around longer than the last Google cast app for AFTV.

Hi josuelopezv:
What's so shameful. Developers give you a convenient to install android box without Google Play Service since you said you already buy it from Google PlayStore. But you leak it as piracy and don't think how many times developers spend to implement the Cast Protocol in house.

I thought this is forbidden/illegal? Shouldnt this thread or at least the APK have been deleted?
I do not have a problem to buy any app that has the right functionality.
Im just not used to see pirated content on here(?)
There is nothing illegal about this.

Same here. Casting from YouTube via Chrome on my laptop doesn't work but casting the whole screen does (never found a use for that though since the quality and latency make it pretty useless)
Yeah since I found a work around for the coming youtube/fire armageddon I'm not concerned. How are you casting the whole screen btw?

I use Google Home to steam everything and haven't had a hiccup. Even games work fine.
Thanks! I'll give this a shot. How is the apk in this thread different than the one in the play store?

Why don't you find out for yourself? Kinda seems like a complete waste of time to register just to say this.
This appears to run as a chromecast receiver & NOT as a chromecast Audio receiver. I'm not sure why Google differentiates them but it would be nice to have a toggle in this app.
