Are G950F/ G955F ROMs compatible with G950U/ G955U? Is it possible to use Flashfire to flash G950F/ G955F ROMs into G950U/ G955U and vice versa?
I don't believe so.
F is the exynos and U is Snapdragon
As long as they don't mess with build.prop or kernel, they *should* work.
I would say no because the Snapdragon and Exynos variants use different kernels, but isn't it a moot point because Snapdragons have locked bootloaders?

nope, its because we have flashfire. I think if its like new apps or mods that modify system files, not kernel, it might work. But again, if it modifys the build prop and stuff. But anyways, nah, we can flash. As long as it supports flashfire.

Take a look at this guys.... It's root for all variants on all the carriers! Pretty exciting even though the bootloader may not be unlocked!

Verified working on my VZW S7 Edge.
Sweet! Just a few questions?
1. This does trip Knox right?
2. Can we downgrade firmwares through odin? Samsung did not block downgrade?

1: Dont think so.
2: You can use this on the current update. You are not downgrading firmware. Just kernel.
I am rooted on Verizon S7. It runs a little warm and uses a bit more battery. I am most likely going to flash back to stock shortly. Does anyone know if I can use just the available firmware? Also do I have to use the custom ODIN that was used to flash the root or will the normal one do?
has anyone took a chance at this on the SM-G935J Japanese Variant??
Has anybody tried this on the Japanese SM-G935J Snapdragon Variant? I'm curious... would it work?

You have to use the kernel provided. It is a rooted engineer kernel. This is what allows root.
Any other japanese users try this?

I'd really like to root this phone
Can we close this thread please?
Thread cleaned.
:good:
I was able to root my U.S. Cellular S7 Edge and to my understanding it has a locked boot loader. So I am able to root but not flash custom recovery or rom. Can anyone clarify this? Also because of this, does it mean I can not actually get Xposed on my phone now?
You can install Xposed, look for instructions in your model's forums. You can't get custom rooms in a normal way but a custom rooms has been made by replacing system files.
Im not sure if the latest version of xposed would work (86 build), older versions didnt work when i tried.

It does just use wanam's builds, found here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=37508.
I've been reading the forums for days since I got my S7 (flat, AT&T, 930A) but I can't figure out the story with alternative ROMs, flashing firmwares, ODIN, etc. I'm coming from a G3 where I rooted, installed TWRP, then flashed ROMs, but this is not the process for the S7. So how does it work? What is Odin? What are the firmwares for?
Am I correct in that you use Odin on your computer to flash a firmware to the phone? And these firmwares -- they are stock ROMs without carrier bloat? And then rooting is a separate process?
Thanks... :highfive:
The bootloader is locked currently. You cannot flash any roms right now

What about my other questions -- What is Odin? Why flash a firmware?

Odin is a tool used to flash Roms but it can only flash Samsung official roms. The bootloader is locked still so you cannot flash unofficial roms

Thanks. So could someone flash the firmware from the international variant on their AT&T or Verizon variant?

No because the two variants uses two different chipsets.
Thanks!

So is it possible for someone to take the stock AT&T (or any other variant) firmware and modify it, such as remove bloatware or something else more extreme -- essentially creating a somewhat customized ROM? Or is it in a format that can't be modified... maybe the Odin software checks for the integrity before flashing?

Does anyone know if/how I can get a custom recovery on the S7 Edge (American Qualcomm G935V-(Flashed to G935U, rooted)) for a custom ROM? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
I also saw something about the bootloader being locked, so it may not be entirely possible, I'm not sure. If this is the case though, is there any workarounds?

Since you are on a SD model, you won't have support for the exynos roms and you would need the SD roms. where there are barely any for now.

Flashfire is the only type of recovery but cannot flash a custom kernel

Has any one root the T-Mobile s7e with it already on 7.0?
I have been looking but not sure . I tried to root with the method on here but I get stuck in a bootloop when it restarts after flashing the AP boot file in Odin I have tried several ways. I want to know also. I'm running 7.0 and g935t .
Yes been out for a few days, haven't tried myself yet.

Using ambasadii rom for few days and it works nice
Link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/development/android-nougat-7-0-beta-1-rom-test-t3498664
But you need custom recovery, and rom is debloated + rooted
Just get a custom recovery, disable encryption and flash latest SuperSU 2.79 or Magisk. All good
Am I missing something.....why are the people above me saying to put a custom revovery on tmobile variant.... afaik that's not possible.

I think that every exons proccesor (Europe) can be rooted.
But im not sure. I got my S7 from germany and its unlocked. No TMobile or other carrier.
Everything works good ?
T mobile is snapdragon. There is 7.0 root, it uses another engineering Bootloader
Right but there's no custom recovery, no custom kernel, no custom Rom, which is what the user was suggesting. Doesn't make sense. At least not for US variants.

OP, i thought was asking for root. Flashfire is basically our only recovery atm for usa hence locked bootloader.. no custom kernels but we can tweak kernel via kernel author. We have custom roms but it's TouchWiz based.(stang 5.0 rom is awesome) Still better then having nothing imo.. xposed+root apps+romcontrol+system write, makes sense and worthwhile for me.
