O recently installed Paranoid Android in my LPro3 and it is amazing but I cant get Android Pay work. I have the application installed and my card added but when I get close to the terminal the phone doesn't read it. NFC and
PAY is enabled and the phone is not rooted. It passes the safetynet check.

Android Pay requires a locked bootloader but I'm not sure. If it works on stock ROMs with unlocked bootloaders, that means the kernel is reporting a locked bootloader (or there's something else I'm missing). If you want Android Pay to work you need a kernel that passes SafetyNet and/or a locked bootloader.
BTW I was able to get my NFC payment working using those 2 guides

I agree any dev out there want to let me know what you might possibly need in order to begin to exploit the boot loader. I know that the Samsung n4 fix is for a different chipset but there has to be a way to bypass Verizon's DMV so I can dump the boot loader and system and upload it for the community. I really really like this phone for its price point and I don't feel like that it should be let to the side because it's not a flagship. I'm not a dev but I'm also not new to the capabilities of this community. Any Assistance would be great
My issue is somewhat different, I have a banking app that reports my J3 as rooted (no other apps do) and I need a way to reverse or work around this flaw. The banking app does state for Galaxy S5 model that Android 6 Marshmallow is needed and I know I'm only on 5.1.1, but I'm not sure if the kernel and baseband used are the same.
Any help or advice appreciated. Or if I can root, update to 6 and then unroot to resolve this.

No rooting so far. Kingo- and Kingroot APKs and PC versions fail to root, no custom recovery to flash SuperSU, and no vulnerabilities to exploit. I've had this phone for about 5 months now, and nothing sticks. But that's the way it goes with Verizon- branded devices - because the boot loader is locked there isn't much that can be done. The most I've been able to do is "convert" it to a SM-J320V by flashing that firmware via Odin. Still can't use non-Verizon SIMs though.

Does converting it allow you to use Verizon MVNO Sims without paying the ransom for a month of verizon prepaid service first to activate the phone ? I know you said no non Verizon sims but nkt sure if you meant MVNO too

I would love to buy a S5 Active in the U.S. an use it in Germany. Since it is looked to AT&T which we don't have in Germany, I want to root it.
For the past 2 days I did some research in this forum. It turned out that it's more complicated than I thought.
My English is not that good, so before I actually buy a phone I want to make sure that I understood everything... more or less.
So, if I get my hands on a phone with 4.4. or 5.0 on it, there is no problem to root it because there is no blocked bootloader, right?
I don't know though which ROM I should use in that case? Which one runs best on the S5 Active?
If the phone is running on 5.1. there is the problem with the locked bootloader, right? In that case I use this guide?
If I get a phone that is running on 6.0 or 6.1 I need to downgrade to 5.0 or 5.1 using this guide and the just do one of the two steps above accordingly?
Does that mean it doesn't matter if the phone I buy runs on 4.4, 5.0, 5.1, 6.0, or 6.1? Can I root in anyway?

you dont need to root it for international use. If its not bound to a contract with at&t anymore, then youd just need to contact at&t to have them unlock it for international use. if youre worried about the cost to call at&t, just get the textnow app, get a usa phone number and call them via the app over wifi for absolutely no cost. or, if your worried about your english being a barrier, go to idoneapps.com and they can unlock it for you for $35. I unlocked 2 G900P (sprint S5) with them.

So I figured, the only way to get rid of them is to root the device right?

youre correct, those specific apps do require root to remove. Then youd want something like Titanium backup to get that job done
I havent found anything so far that will show me how to root a G870A ACTIVE on 5.0 (OF3) all these links go to methods that show how to do it on a G900 (non active) if anyone can point me in a direction that would work i would much appreciate it.

i think the bootloader is still locked on that device. Not getting much love from devs either. Not sure there is a solution for this, sorry good sir
Well I received the SM-G780A today. It is not locked to AT&T anymore so I can actually use it without rooting it.
However the preloaded apps are just a pain. So I am thinking about rooting it anyway.
The Android Version is 5.0 and the Kernel Version 3.4.0-4443965. Do I understood it right that the bootloader is not locked in Androit 5.0 yet?
What's the best way to root it and is there any chance to get a rooted Android 6 running on it?

Greetings! I have just ordered my new OP5 and now I hat a Sony Z5. If you were Xperia users, you know that after unlock the bootloader, you lost permanently (or you did a backup before) a speial partition where Sony put very important data for the device (like the camera quality for example).
I know myself ad I have fear that if I unlock the bootloader I lose some imoprtant data or something so my question is: which consequences do you have if you unlock the OP5? Do you lose something important like in the Sony devices or not?

Unlocking the bootloader basically resets your phone and you lose data plus any apps you installed but you don't lose anything like what you are describing --you just need to set up your phone again. The biggest problem you would encounter is that Android Pay probably wouldn't work unless you flash a custom kernel. Default Android behavior is that if you unlock the bootloader you automatically can't pass Safety Net and I don't think OnePlus or any other phone maker that runs Android is officially allowed to change that behavior --which is why you need a custom kernel to still pass Safety Net.
Oh, and you have a screen at boot that pretty much states that the bootloader has been unlocked.
Not sure why we still have to deal with this as this has been masked on a few other model phones, like the Axon 7, and with all the dev's available for the one+ it's surprising this hasn't been sorted for us too...
So far after unlocking my bootloader and rooting with magisk, android pay is unavailable. I didn't use it much anyways as out here in rural country midwest (USA) it isn't very widespread. As far as warranty goes it is still in effect and 1+ also has a guide for restoring your phone to stock too. It's definitely a great phone for customizing and trying new things with. I didn't apply a new ROM though as most ROMs available at this time are still a work in progress and not what I deem entirely stable. I'm sure someone here will contradict me, but I'm doing fine with what I've got so far.

Essentially, if you're happy with how your phone is working, there is no need to unlock the boot loader and root. There is no point to unlock the bootloader and then not root .
Unlocking the bootloader allows custom recoveries and roms/kernels to be installed onto the phone.
It also allows such things as substratum, xposed and magisk to be installed as these apps generally require root priveliges that aren't available with a locked bootloader and being unrooted.
Customisation can be easier, Bloat can be removed instead of just frozen and tweaks can be applied BUT there is a downside too as this has effectively breached Googles security and will break certain apps (mostly banking but there has been reports of streaming apps being affected too on other forums).
Luckily as you have the One+5 you can, if you wish, revert to stock and relock the bootloader thus reverting all changes, unlocking most other phones which will destroy any hope of getting warranty or a relocked bootloader.
Just be sure you HAVE got it back to stock 1st however as having anything different, (kernel,rom or recovery) may very well brick your device once you relock the bootloader.

You need to flash a custom kernel to pass safety net. It won't work with the stock kernel. Blu Spark seems to be the official unofficial kernel and you could easily flash that one and forget it as it is pretty fast and smooth as is. Boeffla kernel is built for stability and is rock solid but if you don't tweak the settings at all you might notice a slight drop in performance from stock. Either one will allow you to pass Safety Net and can improve the speed and performance of the phone over stock. Boeffla also includes a fix for the auto brightness making the phone too dim by allowing you to set a minimum screen brightness that it won't go below.

I'm aware this is thread is pretty old, but I'm wondering how things are now? It's been quite some time since I've touched any bootloaders or custom roms and I'm interested in testing android 11 with my op5. What are the downsides with unlocking your bootloader and installing a custom rom?
Google pay not working?
Banking apps not working?
Netflix not working?
I tried searching this forum and googling around and I really could not find any answers. And none of the custom rom threads I checked mention safetynet.

Miui 8.5.5.0
loaded android pay.
loaded my card onto it.
everything went fine, without a problem.
then when i went to buy some goods today, i selected "contactless" swiped my phone over the pay terminal....Nothing. no vibrate, no sound, no change on the phone....and no pay.
very strange i think?

I've installed unofficial Lineage OS 9.0 from this forum. Right now it is without root, but the bootloader is unlocked (which is obvious). Unfortunately when I want to pay using NFC payment I get an info that this device cannot be used to activate NFC payments, because the device is not meeting VISA/MasterCard security/system requirements.
Do you have any suggestions how to solve this issue?
I need to mark that system is not rooted now, but the bootlocker is unlocked.

Mine works with Magisk installed. It does some coverup for the security check. Before (7.0/8.0) I had Xposed added to the set and NFC payments were not available. With Magisk only, everything is fine.

I'm not in Pie for now, but I'm sure that your device doesn't pass SafetyNet.
You have to root it via Magisk Manager and download the modules that fix these problems and you will have to hide your banking apps with Magisk Hide.
