Good morning everyone, i have a horrible problem with my Moto G5 Plus XT1685.
I had the stock version NPNS25.137-33-11 of the firmware a couple of days ago, and i decided to unlock my bootloader and flash one custom rom.
Well, i did it but i realize i can't use Android Pay and i need it.
I tried to flash a firmware via ADB but i'm getting this error when i write "fastboot fash XXX XXX.img"
Code:
(bootloader) Security version downgrade
(bootloader) Image o failed validation
(bootloader) Invalid signed image
(bootloader) Preflash validation failed
FAILED (remote failure)
finished. total time: 1.689s
I would RELOCK my bootloader and FLASH the original firmware but i can't because of this problem. Who can help me?
Thanks in advance
Unfortunately, to lock your device, you'd likely need the NPNS25.137-33-11 stock firmware to flash; generally, only stock firmwares of the same build or newer than what you have will be able to re-lock your device. Currently, I can't see that particular firmware having been released/leaked.
If you need Android Pay, you may wish to look into rooting and using magisk to hide your unlocked bootloader status, which may give you SafetyNet and Android Pay. I'm not familiar with rooting and with magisk on G5 Plus devices though.

You can flash any potter fastboot you want, upgrade/downgrade, whatever; just don't flash the bootloader or gpt.
As long as you skip these, you won't have any issues.
FYI, flashing a stock fastboot file will NOT relock your bootloader.

Agreed, magisk is the way to go for root and solutions for rooted devices on the g5.
Thanks both for the replies, very helpful.
But how about relocking the bootloader? There is nothing I can do? I know you reply me yet about this, but I just wanna be sure..thanks again

Until the NPNS25.137-33-11 or newer stock firmware comes out, I think you cannot re-lock your bootloader (and as I mentioned, I see no sign of such stock firmware). Only stock ROM firmware of the same build or newer than the bootloader patch level on your device can re-lock your device.
Many thanks sir, very helpful.
I think we solved the problem.

ok, just got the ZE600KL, installed the latest OTA update of Android M, setup the phone and everything. Then only I realised that I cannot root the phone without unlocking the bootloader. Tried the official bootloader unlocker from Asus but it didnt work.
Had been looking low and high, Question:
1. Is there a way to unlock the bootloader since the official tool from Asus wont work? (and I understand that you must unlock the bootloader 1st by any means before rooting the phone)
2. I saw from some thread that there are pre-rooted image (I assumed that is the whole Android OTA update for the latest Android M but rooted), can I apply that onto a locked bootloader, and doing so will I be able to retain all my users files? How I do that?
I tried my best not to re-setup the whole phone but I really need to root the device so I can do more with my backup app and stuffs. Pls help.

no working...the bootloader is locked. Shakalaca's pre-rooted patched system img doesnt have the version currently my phone is installed. The version on my phone is WW-21.40.1220.1698, but the image on the cloud is much higher version. Can I use the newer version and update my phone?

Did you tried the unofficial method? Unlocking and then rooting is the best way to gain root access permanently. But if you still want to flash pre-rooted system.img, you can use ZE550KL's system.img (from shakalaca) irrespective of what version it is (Unless it is for the same android version i.e MM)
Warning: Don't flash anything other than system.img and/or boot.img. Flashing other parts may HARD BRICK your phone

I'm sorry of this is a noob question, but I found this: http: // www . filefactory . com/folder/c6cdedc45a775d27 <--- which contained a bunch of stock roms. (I'm a new user, so I can't post links; just remove the spaces)
I bricked my phone with an incompatible SuperSU (stuck on Moto boot screen), so I need to flash 6.0.1 for XT1644 (I think it's unlocked/USA variant but idk)
I tried one that I found called "XT1625-XT1644_ATHENE-RETUS_MPJ24.139-48_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_CFC.xml_2.zip" which said that it was 6.0.1, but when I tried to flash, it said:

Apparently, I'm flashing the wrong version of the firmware, but there's like 10 pages of downloads on the filefactory link, and it takes about an hour to download each... Can anyone help me out here?
Thanks!
That firmware should be okay, however that error is normal if you're attempting to flash a build older than the build you currently have/had. I'm guessing you had either MPJ24.139-64 or Nougat on your device before? Your updated bootloader and gpt blocks any downgrades (and thus reduces the chances of bricking your device).
You may be able to flash your older firmware (and downgrading in the process) if you do not flash gpt or bootloader, omit:
Code:
fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img
The rest of your flashing commands should be the same. Of course, verify your bootloader is unlocked (which it should be if you were flashing SuperSU), else you won't be able to downgrade.
Thanks for your quick response!! I downgraded without problem! Also rooted with a compatible SuperSU this time... Then disabled the OTA daemon, so it wouldn't auto update, and brick myself, since I'm running an earlier version of the bootloader (correct me if I'm wrong...) Thanks again! :good:

Woo, good to hear you've got your device working I think with the OTA, you should be okay as the bootloader blocked earlier attempts to downgrade and your subsequent flashes won't have affected those partitions, so it's unlikely you'll brick your device!
Currently I have installed latest official nightly LineageOS 14.1 on my device. I want to return to stock ROM and lock bootloader. Previously, before bootloader unlocking, I had 6.0.1 stock, version with january security updates (probably).
I have downloaded latest stock 6.0.1 MPD24.107-52 ( https://github.com/motoxplay/stock ).
Unfortunately, I got an error when tried to flash it:
HTML:
$ fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
it returns:
HTML:
(bootloader) Preflash validation failed
same with recovery.img
To lock bootloader I have to flash all stock files.
Any ideas? Thanks
skip it. You cant flash same bootloader and same gpt.bin again.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...de-return-to-stock-relock-bootloader-t3489110
NOTE: You must use a factory firmware image that is the same version as what you have installed or newer to successfully relock the bootloader, you cannot just grab the old (shipped) version from Moto's site. If you attempt to use a firmware image that is older than what you have installed currently, you will receive a Preflash Validation Error indicating such when you attempt to flash the partition table (gpt.bin). At this point you can either continue the flash and NOT lock the bootloader at the end, or stop until you can find the most current image. Moto used to be quite willing to hand these out when they were requested, so if you have a very new firmware installed you may not find one that you can use to relock with on the Internet. Part of the requirements to lock the bootloader is you must successfully flash the partition table (gpt.bin) in order to complete the lock process, if you can't then the bootloader lock process cannot be finished.

i am not able to use my phone right now request you guys....
It's normal not to have your IMEI on stock if you've flashed Oreo ROMs before.
You can follow instructions in this thread if you want to get IMEI back.
Happy flashing!

Okay dude .... Let me explain very quickly ....
First off I bought this device like 8 months ago .... 1 week b4 I flashed customs ROM that is lineago os 15.1 which was recent for my device .... Everything was fine until yrstdy.... Yrstdy morning what I did was I planned to flash normal stock ROM to my phone .... Using some brasil version by watching YouTube ... Everything went well I was like thank god and then I inserted the sim but there was not network due to imei issue ....
This is where problem started...
Thinking after I do the OTA update security patch might go back and I might get the signal but then I did ota update and phone restarted ... It showed installing updates in half wat it suddenly switched I realised that I hard bricked my phone ...
Then searched the whole xda forums and found this guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5-plus/help/moto-g5-plus-hard-bricked-recognized-t3636457/page6
By Rakesh1b.....
I did the same I used potter blank flash and my phone woke up after trying it several hours....
Then when I tried to flash bootloader of moto g5 plus it showed error like I previously displayed ..... Well there was one more post for all of these 3 files, bootloader.IMG gpt.bin and recovery.IMG well I did flash all of them they seem to be worked ...
Then I tried to flash moto g5 plus twrp recovery which gave me error of failure...
Then I tried moto z2 play twrp ... God damn it got flashed and went into twrp recovery then as I studied as per @Rakesh1b ......
And now I'm stuck here ..... Not able to go front...
I get error like /cache not found when I try to flash custom os ...
What all I need now is moto g5 plus boot loader.IMG recovery.IMG gpt.bin
Of January security patch ... Mine last update was November security patch
I request some one to give those files or give a proper solution for this plzzzzzz

Thank you for the explanation, your situation seems to (mostly) make sense to me now.
You probably realize this in retrospect, but you should not have accepted an OTA on stock with no IMEI. But enough with that, what exactly do you mean by "my phone woke up"? I'd love to offer you a solution, but to find one, I'll need to know if "waking up" involved booting into Android, booting into the bootloader, or whatever.
u should unlock bootloader first.. the version of bootloader is lower than on ur phone, you should not OTA update, OTA did upgraded ur bootloader ver to latest..

THE FIRST THING U SHOULD TO UNLOCK BOOTLOADER before to try and CWM OR TWRP, custom rom..
Hey guys thanks for everyone's assistance here
i have successfully flashed Pixel experience ROM to my phone by using this procedure
1st. Blank flash your phone as per the above procedure..... (disable signature enforcement if u are using windows 10)
press and hold power button you could hear that mobile disconnects and connects once you hear that then press voldown and power with one hand and run blankflash.bat and then release those buttons before u hear them again
2nd. Flash all 3 provided files in MotoG5Plus_addison2Potter in the attachement and it will take you to the boot loader
Using these Commands:
fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
(Flash the files from provided Zip attachment)
3rd. download Moto z2 play or plus twrp recovery as i didnt have time to compress everything i cud nt provide that, then flash the custom recovery, then try to enter into recovery mod and it should enter..... if u have done 1st and 2nd step properly then u will enter into TWRP recvery mod
and here is the link for debolated ROM download version 2 which has november patch on it....
https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5-...dexed-t3619972
then once ur in twrp mount it to ur pc and copy the debolate ROM to ur phone and then flash it though TWRP ....
once it is done reboot ur phone into os and it should successfully boot into ROM...
once done u can flash any custom ROM into ur phone using TWRP
But 1 major issue is that i lost 4g or VoLTE:
Can u guys please help me with that.....
hi now I no you prob see this title and think oh another 1 but hear me out as I cant find any thing the same as the issue I'm having.
so I followed a rooting guide unlocked bootloader installed twrp all good installed supersu phone wont boot reinstalled twrp systemless installed supersu still nothing I have followed every guide I can find phone will only boot into twrp or bootloader I have flashed custom and stock roms however I do keep getting

I have tried every way I can find still nothing when I try to boot it freezes on the screen saying my phone is unlocked and cant be trusted I'm now lost don't no were to go from here I did not back any thing up as the first thread I read don't say bout it and iv neva had any problems with any of my other phones or games consoles I no games consoles are different any help would be amazing
Most likely the flashing wasn’t complete or corrupted or the stock ROM wasn’t the correct one (Remember to be safe you’d have to flash the original ROM when you bought the phone) that being said. My suggestion you should try flashing TWRP again and boot into TWRP. Then flash stock ROM which will overwrite the current config. Not guaranteed, but it’s worth a shot.
Good luck.

1) If you're rooting on stock Motorola Nougat ROMs, you need a custom kernel - attempting to root on the stock Motorola hudsoncm kernel usually results in a boot failure or bootloop as you've found. https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...de-root-moto-g4-plus-supersu-android-t3587918 for a useful guide, you can root with either magisk or SuperSU.
2)That security downgrade error suggests you're attempting to flash stock firmware older than the firmware matching your device's bootloader. If you need newer firmware, you could look into this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/stock-rom-npjs25-93-14-4-march-1-t3608138 You'll need to flash this firmware via fastboot/the bootloader.
3) Try first of all booting into TWRP, copy a custom kernel to your device via a computer and USB cable, and then flash the custom kernel. See if that gets your device booting. If not, you may have to re-flash the stock firmware to get your device booting again (or use a backup, if you had one).

Unfortunately you'd have to wait for a newer firmware, the NPJS25.93-14-13, NPJS25.93-14-15 and NPJS25.93-14-18 firmwares are for retail devices. Amazon devices are on a different firmware and as you've partially flashed the Dec 2017 firmware, you'd likely need AMZ NPJ25.93-14.7-3 or NPJ25.93-14.7-5 (Feb 2018 update), however neither AMZ build appears to be available at the moment.
If you're desperate for a working device, your best bet may be to talk to Amazon or Motorola support, or if your bootloader was previously unlocked, you could try to unlock your bootloader and flash a custom ROM.
I will wait for a new firmware amz
