recovery resets to stock after update. - OnePlus 5 Questions & Answers

I have rooted my op5 and got twrp recovery but every time I update the rom by flashing it from recovery the recovery goes back to stock. Is it normal? Or is there a way to keep the twrp recovry ever after updating.

You need to flash supersu/magisk after flashing a ROM update to keep TWRP

Yes, and flashing the stock ROM also flashes the stock recovery. Hence TWRP being replaced.
If you want to keep TWRP after a stock ROM flash, just flash the recovery img file right after you flashed the stock ROM.

Or use Flashfire and check the appropriate box.

Use Flashify it's an app in the play store I had the same problem. Flash recovery via that

So I don't need to install it via bootlaoder every time.. I can just flash it via recovery after installing the rom and that will work??

Yes. I updated mine the exact same way.
But remember, flash them all at once and reboot only after you're done. Rebooting will replace TWRP with stock recovery and you won't be able to flash TWRP in stock.
Flash stock ROM, Magisk or SuperSU and a TWRP.img file, then reboot.

[Q] lost root and can't get it back

Hi all,
I rooted my smg900f two days ago and flashed a recovery, everything went fine, I tried a couple of custom rom and at some point I noticed that I didn't have root access anymore (checked with root checker). I launched towelroot again, and now it says that my device is not supported yet. Does anybody encountered the same issue ?

I have clockwork recovery, I had Omega ROM running on my phone (maybe at this moment I already lost root but I only noticed it after), I tried to flash this mod, it didn't work so after a few tries I full wiped my phone and insalled Omega 8.0 again. Then I noticed I lost root access when trying to open some apps.
I also flashed the bootloader for SMG900F featured in the Omega rom thread
That's about it

Flash CF Auto Root with Odin, your KNOX flag is tripped anyway. Link http://download.chainfire.eu/397/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-klte-kltexx-smg900f.zip.

Then i suggest you flash a stock rom, factory reset and root/flash custom recovery from scratch. Its seems some files are messed up that prevents you to root. Backup important files to the pc/sdcard first. That is what i would do at least

Good luck mate. After the flash and factory reset flash a custom recovery and then the superSU.zip and you`re rooted.

There should be a folder on the sdcard named Clockworkmod with the backup, save it to the sdcard before you factory reset. No a backup can`t be flashed with Odin, only in recovery

Did you flash a stock rom with Odin or flash a custom rom in 3rd recovery? Just do a data factory reset in recovery, pull the battery and wait 20 seconds and flash a stock rom with Odin.

Anyway to revert back to 100% Stock?

So I need to revert my OP2 back to 100% stock. I found my self some flashable stock firmwares but I'm not certain if using odin would work. Im noob at this lol. I currently have installed TWRP and root on my OP2. Can anyone tell me the process to undergo in order to go back to 100% stock
Yeah flash the 2.0 image and then apply the ota update. This will give you stock firmware and recovery.

Do not use Odin for anything related to OnePlus devices. Odin is used to flash firmware on Samsung phones.
Just flash the stock recovery image through TWRP. Wipe cahce & dalvik. Let the phone boot into Oxygen OS 2.0. It will then prompt you to update the firmware to 2.1.1. Apply that update and it will get you back to stock on the latest firmware.

I did what you say, and I'm back to stock! THank you! Also after doing full reset, TWRP prompted me if it were to overwrite the stock recovery, i said no, and then the device is 100% stock again!

Hi all. I'm in need of the stock recovery file for N910H on stock 6.0.1. Preferably in .tar format. Thanks

I believe that sammobile would have the stock rom, which if i remember correctly will automaticly flash stock recovery on flash.
But what problem do you have or why do you need a stock recovery, if i may ask ?

Flashed TWRP on my unrooted phone via Odin. Worked the first time round, and I was able to clear cache. Rebooted, and I've not been able to boot into recovery since. I can boot into download mode, but not recovery mode. Pressing the right buttons just boots up the phone normally. Haven't got root, so I can't use an app to boot into recovery.

I want to root my phone but it needs to install a custom recovery, if ever I want to get back the stock recovery...
Does flashing the stock rom replace the custom recovery with the stock recovery?
Sorry I'm a noob
Hi there
I didn't got everything but I'll try to help.
Get latest Odin : https://samsungodin.com/download/Odin3_v3.12.3.zip
Get a stock ROM: chose the right one for you
http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=SM-n910h
or
https://samsung-firmware.org/model/SM-N910H/
or
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-note4/SM-N910H/
Get TWRP: https://eu.dl.twrp.me/treltexx/twrp-3.1.1-0-treltexx.img.tar.html
Get Magisk:
https://dl.xda-developers.com/4/4/2....zip?key=ZHiP_JZ9z3O4YQoq9ammlg&ts=1522485842
Flash stock ROM.
Flash TWRP. (Knox 0x1)
Boot to recovery and backup.
Flash Magisk in TWRP.
You'll end up with a rooted stock ROM and custom recovery
Hope this may help

Another question, does flashing the stock rom ALONE make my phone stable and usable like a new one?
My phone is Note Edge SC-01G btw
I really wanted this phone to be rooted

Take care to get the right ROM or you could brick your phone! All I said above apply to N910H ONLY!
For your device: www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-note-edge/SC-01G/
Maybe another ROM would fit but you have to find out in the other threads...
Sorry if I can't help you more but there are too many differents versions

TWRP to Stock Recovery

How can I go back to stock recovery?
I am on TWRP, but using stock rom. I can no longer perform OTA updates. It would be easier to just go back to everything stock. TIA!

Doubt abour recovering OTA

If I install a custom rom and recovery and then I want to come back to stock and I flash the lastest full fastboot image, do I recover OTA?
