OK,
So i run a phone repair shop and can source the wireless NFC flex very cheap. I personally have the G6 with no wireless charging.
Is there any difference internally with the UK G6 and the US wireless charging G6?
Could i simply swap my NFC flex for a wireless charging one and reap the benefits?
Im not too worried about removing the back glass as i can get parts cheap and use B7000 adhesive to retain the water resistance.
Just don't want to rip it apart if there is a difference in hardware, or possible just needs software to run?!?
I just tried on mine, following the guide from Sack at JerryRigEverything in regards to removing the rear glass panel, which was surprisingly easy.
Be careful not to scratch the layer underneath the glass. I couldn't avoid doing it, where I with a razorblade lifted it up. After heating it up that is..
Unfortunately the motherboard is missing two pins that should have been next to the two NFC connectors. Also just below the hole for the FPS there are also missing two pins.
Hope that helps to avoid wasting your time.
Wondering why LG is wasting money making different motherboards in the manufacturing process.

Perfect!!
Thanks for the detailed reply. Weird why LG would do this. Not possible to drop a bit of solder on the points to make contact?
On the plus side you could remove the paint from your back glass have a see through back cover like JerryRigEverything.
I'm sorry but I don't understand your question. There is nothing to solder on the motherboard. In the picture, exampled with red to the right, you'll see two pins connecting to the two connectors on the original NFC plate. Next to them there should be 4 pins in all to enable wireless charging.

While replacing my Atrix battery cover with a rubberized one I got curious and peeled off the sticker on the at&t cover and I noticed some sort of shield material (see photo)
Would that be an RF shield, heat shield, signal booster, just a sticker?
Cheers!

My guess is that its a heat shield. Anyone else?

Probably just the sticker. Why would you want a heat shield keeping heat in? Wouldn't be rf since it's not grounded to anything else in the phone, and anyone believing those "signal boosters" actually work, I've got some land to sell you.
Probably something to dampen the signal enough to meet FCC requirements.
The foam you see is to keep the battery cover firmly pressed against the phone. Dont want a battery cover that flexes when you press it! Drop it just right and it would shatter without it. Think of it as dynamat for your phone.
just the glue for the sticker

Good guess, but it actually sits pretty flat so I guess its not that, but who knows, it may be all the thickness it needs right? ;-)

Definitely some sort of glue, but it has some kind of metal feel to it, almost like tin foil.

If it's anything interesting, it is probably a heat spreader, not a heat shield.
I just got an oem replacement cover (to completely debrand my Atrix) from cnn and it does not have the sticker (nor the speaker grille). I'm gonna use it as is to see if the absent "shield" makes any difference.
The oem rubber cover do have the sticker on.

that type of glue is common on "no tamper" stickers as it is easy to see if someone has removed it. My guess is that the manufacture just has most of its stickers made this way as a SOP kind of thing. I can not imagine they really care if someone takes a sticker off a solid piece of plastic
The Note II rear battery cover has fragile hooks that hold it in place in addition to the usual tabs. Failure to remove/install the cover in the proper fashion can result in broken hooks and a loose/creaky cover.
My cover was creaking in the corner above the volume rocker. I didn't realize the hook was broken until I stumbled across a thread where other users were experiencing the same issue.
I drew something up to hopefully prevent others from breaking their tabs/hooks. The green arrows show the direction on how to safely remove/install the hooks.

This is from a Sprint device but I assume the design is the same on the variants.
thanks for the guide, this back cover is harder to put back than note 1 and s3
Good to know, thanks! :good:
Yeah I was victim of creaky cover because I removed it really hard first day I got it. Anyone know where I can get a replacement cover?

What's the black bit on the inside of your cover? Looks like a place-holder for a wireless charging module.

Yeah, I looked at my S3 cover and the tabs looked reinforced. The hooks on the N2 are weeeeak. I only had my phone for a couple of days until I noticed that the hooks broke.

Try your local Sprint store that services phones. They usually have extra parts laying around but the N2 is still new so they might not have them yet. I'm still looking for a replacement cover.

That black plate is for my iMagnet car mount (thread). Highly recommended! I know a magnetic mount sounds crazy but I'll let the 5-star reviews speak for themselves.
i have no broken or bent tabs and it's still lose by the volume button. such a simple flaw on such a great phone. this stinks!
I noticed that the pictures don't show the wireless charging pins, which should look similar to the NFC pins but it's next to the battery
Beamed from Jupiter on my Galaxy Note II
The pics were taken from a Sprint variant where the housing covers the wireless charging pins. They're there underneath.
thanks
Not sure if this has been posted yet, but I found this Z3c teardown video. No close-ups so it's hard to see much detail, but at least it gives a good idea of the guts of the phone and how it's assembled. And the back glass didn't crack when it was prized off!

I may not like the fact that this phone lacks a user-removable battery, however the ease of access to the battery itself is a relief.
I wonder how opening affects the waterproofing. I remember I opened by waterproof watch once to replace the battery and it was never fully waterproof after that.
I wonder how difficult it would be to add wireless charging...
1. Wow that's a big battery... no wonder
2. Teardown videos should really be in 1080p
@jug6ernaut There doesn't seem to be much room to play with, the QI receiver would have to be very slim. The one's I've had in the past had PCB components that would be too thick to fit in there. Anyone know which QI receiver is the slimmest? I love QI charging and plan on playing around with something DIY, but it will probably be something external case-based.
@banjker I too would like to know about the waterproofing. It looks like there's an insulated rubber strip around the edge, you can see it better in the Z3big teardown. They mangled it, but I'd imagine you could do it non-destructively by heating it up first.

Ok so with all these cases of cracking back glass it looks like it's quite easy to remove the back panel and replace it with a new one your self off eBay or somewhere?

Perhaps, but there's no indication of how easy it is to reattach the back and without the right foam/adhesive the phone will no longer be waterproof ( I doubt the existing foam can be saved, even by heating)
Firstly Thanks to ARNO59 for his original teardown - http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/accessories/teardown-google-official-wireless-t2628022
Due to the curved back of the Nexus 6 the coil sits further behind the rear case than the nexus 5 :

The Charger has a 2/3mm Glass front that sit between your phone and the coil inside :
So by removing the glass and the magnets were reducing the distance the Inductive charging has to go to get to the coil in the hand set and also the profile of the charger base helps the nexus 6 sit in place better.
Tools Needed :
Torx 5 (T5) Screwdriver / Bit
Flick Knife - Long blade ( You can use a Stanley knife however i'd advise against it as there are some wire than could get cut by a very sharp blade ! )
A Official Google nexus QI charger ( Not the Orb ! )
A sticker larger than the top of the qi charger
Okay lets do this !
1. Remove the Sticky foot of the Charger with your knife, its a plastic pad with the sticky rubber adhered to it, so getting under the plastic pad will remove the thing as one piece
2. Using a T5 driver remove the 4 screws and put them aside in a safe place, i use some electrical tape to stick them to.
3. Pry the plastic base away from the unit
4. Be careful as there are two exposed copper wires connected to the main board !
5. Carefully pry the glass from the top of the device, go slow and easy don't chip or scratch that glass, a blunt tool is better in this situation !
6. Once the glass is removed remove the Magnets with your knife they are only attached with a little glue.
7. Take these out, and put them in a place for safe keeping, now re-assemble the whole thing Minus the Glass and those magnets and apply a sticker where the glass once sat to top the metal scratching your new device.
So what's the point of this? It charges faster?

It charges .. Period.
As it stands, the older Nexus 5 charges is VERY spotty at best for charging the newer Nexus 6 ... Add a case, and it just doesn't work. This hack removes some of the gap between the charging coil and the phone will help it charge and allow you to use your existing hardware.
So I used to have a Galaxy Note 3 and the NFC chip was on the battery. I thought the same was the case with my V20 until I bought one of those extended 6600mAh batteries (because I dont really care about the thinness of the phone) which doesnt support NFC. I noticed the lack of the black ribbon around the camera and the 2 contacts on it. Im assuming this is the NFC chip? Do you guys think it would be possible to peel it off and stick it on the new back cover that comes with this extended battery? NFC is something I use daily for NFC payments (since its widely available in Australia) and would love to still be able to use it.
Pic for what I mean

Splitting hairs, but what you see around the camera cutout on the cover is the antenna for the NFC chip. Chip is on board itself.
Honestly, I would imagine it would work, were you to be really careful about pulling the ribbon off..
That said, practicality of the matter is another thing entirely. those damned ribbon cables are crazy fragile. like, dont look at it too long, or you'll tear it fragile. and, i imagine it is stuck to the original cover with some sort of adhesive or another.
tl;dr
the odds of a botched removal are too damned high!
I'd actually like to know about this myself. Considering the v20, with the extended batteries as a main point as I hate being grounded to a charger, but NFC seems like something i would like to start to use as mobile payments are being accepted at more and more places. If you try it, let us know how it goes. Maybe you can put tape on the sticker to give it more support? Who knows. If you mess up, I'm finding spare back covers with NFC antennae for around 20 USD on Amazon.

I have a post in section for accessoires for backcovers could u please post the shop at Amazon there. I'm looking for them. https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/accessories/backcovers-shop-t3582813
