Note 8, i want my money back! - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) General

Am I the only one getting annoyed by the number of Note 8 topics popping up here in the Note 8.0 area?
It's wasting my time reading and answering Qs that should be elsewhere but here. It goes to show you how many techies can't look at simple details. It makes me wonder how much tech stuff will make most all our decisions in the near future. Until there is an app for that, peeps should know how to get around in a forum. Geezo, in am in my 60s and kids these days make me wonder how they can cross the street without their noses being buried in their mobile devices. I can do it... I look both ways and watch where I am going. So easy I can do it bare handed. Ha!

ok...look...lets calm down

First I'm not a mediator mod or any of that, but people we are acting like children.
1. Why are u here?
The devs on this forum are taking personal time! We as community members are not ENTITLED to ROMS. They do this for the love of the platform, so respect that.
2. This is not the Sprint forum.
Again, this forum does not imply or state that EVERYTHING is going to work with whatever ROM u choose. So really, why ***** or hate? Really?
3. What can u add?
Nobody expects anyone to be the cdma hero "hero". Everyone should know they lane and stay in it. Report bugs or dev, its that simple
I don't have the highest post count and I may be out of line but I have been studying/learning here since it was questionable if there would be a sprint hero forum. Let's not **** it up by driving away the same folks that got us here. I know that from past comments this will probably get locked, but if we don't as a whole respect more what's going on we have a chance of loosing it.
Respect to all the devs on here and the work they do, for US!
+1,000,000 Agreed,it's sad when people can't even thank someone without it turning into as bunch of un-needed bull$#17.Just be positive people, some good things are happening, don't let these people ruin things.
I don't post much here anymore, because of some personal reasons with regards to this forum. I still lurk a lot, however, and I just don't see where all the straight-up hate and animosity these posts such as yours are mentioning. I tend to avoid the 80-page threads because they are mostly filled with junk, is it in there?
Perhaps I should check them out.
The hate and animosity and watering down of this subforum with too many useless posts is why I haven't released anything since December. I'm working on a new rom for myself, and I'm thinking less and less like I might want to actually release it here. Last thing I feel like dealing with are a bunch of whiny people who aren't happy with me or my work unless it makes their phone do what THEY want. Where's the reward for devs? Don't anyone even bother mentioning donations.
Support that!
dude props for this! good going. And I agree with you 1000%
its no crime to show thanks and respect to some one for their hard work. if deving was easy we would all be doing it.

This is exactly why we should respect the devs... pretty soon all of them will be gone.
You beat me to it ... but I don't really care.
I think we just got too amped up with all the 2.1 excitement and started trying to outdo oneanother instead of working together. Once the official 2.1 comes out, I think we will see a lot more collaboration to make it as good as possible. In the mean time, always five credit where it is due, and don't worry about who did what first, because it only benefits everybody. That's why our great devs are here: to help create a better device, not to profit or hoard secrets. This is the first real open source project I have been a part of, and I get excited just thinking about what the future has in store for us. Let's make it a great one!
Can we just please stop with these types of threads.
The way I look at it is like a car.
You buy the car, and you COULD just leave it at that. Some people like to mod their car and optimize it for maximum performance. Many people do not know how to do this, so they need to take it some someone who does know how, and the mechanic for damn sure isnt going to do that *** for free. I think of our devs a mechanics, optimizing my phone for me because I have no idea how to develop to my phone. The difference here is that they are doing this **** for free. So what if they ask for a donation, bums on the street ask for "donations" for doing ***. We were going to get 2.1 for free one way or another at some point since we already had the car (Hero for you thick headed people), whether it be a whole 2 days after flipz released it to contributors, or when sprint/htc officially releases it at the rumored end of this month.
And be happy this isnt a car, because if it was not only would you HAVE to pay for the official update, but you would have to pay for the installation and optimization.
Taking a *** chill pill all those people who are too stingy to even donate 1 buck.
Don't make me say the f word and post an off color picture so this thread gets shut down
just playing mods. don't hurt me.

No kidding... I am pretty sick of hearing people explain to me why I should be grateful to the rom developers. Like saying "The devs on this forum are taking personal time!" is some enlightening way to look at it. Everyone knows that already. And it gets really old seeing people make threads like this in an effort to get brownie points around here. There are so many threads EXACTLY like this. You are pushing posts that actually have a use out of view for a lot of people.
Oh wait, I have a difference of opinion. Lets start another thread and label it disrespect to the development gods...
Thank you. And I mean that. Because of XDA and it's amazing devs, I have gotten more out of this phone than I ever imagined. I have never had a phone that could do so much and people here were always willing to help me with a problem. And that is wonderful. I am glad that I joined this forum. In fact, I look forward to checking it every day. lol I don't know a lot about Linux, Java, or coding, but I do however know a lot about photography. I am a professional. So, if anyone needs help that way, I am completely for helping...I mean, all of you have helped me...I'd like to return the favor.

Actually that wasn't my point at all. My point is threads like this do nothing but divert attention to them, it perpetuates the negativity. New users come in these threads and see this and "ask what I missed" then it gets started over and over again.
As soon as these threads die (yes I realize I bump when I reply) the drama will also follow. Donate, dont donate, dev, dont dev ( not really) but just treat each other like some one you would walk by on the street or have a conversation with while standing in a line.
Asking for your cake and eating it 2.
I dont post alot here as well due to personal issues here on the form (so many smarty pants people on here)
But if i see a rom that i like (or app) i give the dev his props and thank him for putting in hard work when he or she could of been doing something else not trying please us and make our phones better then the stock ones.
Not saying the next person have to do the same. But if i wasted 5hrs of my time. and your running around showing off with my work i would like some props.
This dont even have nothng to do with roms or dev so im sure its going to get closed down soon. You people are just wasting your time making these threads people going to do what they going to do.
It's true that these type of threads may seem senseless and get hijacked to negativity... but in the past, my experience is that when moderators and dev's get fed up enough the forum/site would become closed and open to invitation only type membership, i.e., PRIVATE ACCESS!
That scenario is both good and bad... "Good" if you're in the loop, but potentially "Bad" because you just might end up on the outside looking in with your nose pressed against the window! So PROPS it is...
I have come to XDA for a long time, joined only so I could post, and only recently began to do so. But, that said, it has been indispensable for the provision of knowledge and fixes for handsets that the manufacturers and or carriers are unable to do themselves... so again - PROPS it is... no reason to drag it down.
+++++1,000 thanks to the awesome work being done!
There are those who truly can never be pleased, yet, I think that ration is extremely small. So again, for something I would gladly pay for, but am not required to do, I offer the easiest thing, a gesture of THANKS!

A brief rant about some of the members here

Honestly I am starting to get sick at the attitude of some of the members of this forum. It takes more time to ***** than to just simply skip the post and go to the next one.
As the forum gets bigger (XDA today is huge!) you will have simply no way of avoiding these kinds of posts. Telling them to go search or being rude to anyone is NOT going to help.
This used to be strictly a developer forum but with all the press it's getting, the site has been growing a lot over the past few years, and by being an ass you're insulting the very people that are helping this site grow, and even those saying HUGE THANKS by donating money to you for your hard work. How rude is that?
C'mon, let's be more upbeat, forgiving and helpful towards our fellow members and let the actual moderators do their jobs.

It's 50/50 I just avoid reading something if I know I might get a littlke snarky about it and I agree with some of what you're saying. It had someone today that made a thread asking for something that was literally 3 threads down from his post. I found that rather annoying. But still pointed him in the right direction. NOT everyone is as patient as some of the members here. Just saying.

I don't mind when people flame them for not searching...as long as they then answer the question (like you). Because it is so annoying down the road when you are searching an issue...and a thread comes up with your exact problem...and the only replies are telling the person to go search..when that's what you're doing!
There comes a time when people get to the breaking point with lazy people not wanting to search. In those instances it is absolutely infuriating, particularly with someone posting like was done earlier where the answer to his question was literally on the same page... Not only that, it was in the dev forum to boot.
I'm sorry but it doesn't do the community any good to have people come join who contribute nothing to the forum but enrage everyone who has to tell them to UTFSE...

This.
We are a development forum, this isn't the place to get hand held and walked through the same idiots guide 30 times with pictures and line by line instructions. I have no problems helping people that want to help themselves. Seeing, "Why can't i flash this" when they aren't even rooted, have nand locked and never bothered to even check the stickies angers me to no end.
We were all noobs once and we learned really quickly to search, read and then read some more. When you think you know what you have to do then you should read some more. Then try.
Many here flash development kernels and then we end up with 15 pages of 55 fps OMG. Camera is broke! Can we fix it? OMG I have an epson with screen tearing I'm going to return this pos! Nova panel no fix? Dude I'm returning it for an epson!
Don't even get me started on the cross device posts and people threatening to return their device. Return the damn thing. I don't need you to justify my decisions. I also don't equate my penis size with my phone so; grats the Iphone records 720p awesome if that is what you need then by all means help yourself. No need to post. No need to post "I love my EVO" Threads in some lame attempt to counter act the negativity of another device doing something better than yours. Take that stuff to one of the other laid back forums where people aren't actively trying to fix problems.

Why should I waste my time digging the link up for them? Then they are just going to expect it EVERY time and we will keep getting the same posts from the same people who are too lazy to take the time and search and read.
Tough call, I am relatively new here but I help a lot at other forums and this stuff happens everywhere. Some days I bite my lip and some days I am a smart ass.
I definately agree that if you decide to reply you should say something useful so to not populate everyone elses search results with useless info. Of course the bad part about ignoring a noob's post is that they will then keep bumping it themselves until someone tells them to go search....so you can't win!
The other day when I posted at another forum that progress was being made on nova panels and the 30fps cap I flat out told them I wasn't going to post the link because the developers needed the thread to work. I of course credited xda just didn't give them the thread.

Actually, by telling them to just search and not answer their question, we will ultimately HURT those who are actually UTFSE....Google. By responding to them you are BUMPING the thread. Either let it die, let a moderator take care of it or simply tell them to search, but point them to right direction kindly and with respect.
It's pretty apparent that UTFSE is a common issue and maybe you can modify behavior through the forum itself? I don't see why the forum can't search out the keywords being used, sentences and such and force the user to "review" previous postings prior to making a new one? It could even go as far as to have them review and check off certain starred postings "before" making a new one. I have been blasted on other forums for not searching and thus I learned my lesson very quickly. Since it is such a common issue on many different boards, I would think someone could come up with a solution.
My .02-
I don't know how much I agree with the OP. I have been using these forums for maybe a year or two at this point and for the most part the balance seems to be 80% helpful 20% trolls. I figure that everywhere, in any forum there are always going to be trolls but on the whole XDA has ALWAYS been helpful. Maybe I'm just lucky and havent had to deal with too many trolls but either way, while I agree with the OP, not sure how large scale of a problem this really is.
I think one of the biggest problems is search itself. I can find my way around ok, but even searching can take an inordinate amount of time.
People tend to take the path of least resistance, so if they have two choices: search or ask, they'll take the option that requires the least effort--they'll ask. So even though they get *****ed at about searching, they'll still just ask because they're likely to get an answer in a few minutes without having to do any work.
I believe the answer, and what would help this community the most, is to consolidate the most requested information in a SINGLE SIMPLE place. I've checked out the wikis, but to be honest, things move so fast here, even the wikis get out of date quickly.
Consider some of the most asked newb questions:
"How do I flash this"
"I can't get adb to work"
"When will it be out"
"My battery sucks, what do I do"
Most of this information is readily accessible with a search, but the advice is varied as much as the individual results. For those of us who understand what we're reading and who can filter the wheat from the chaff, tinkering is great fun. For others, they just want expert and reliable information that works.
How do we put that together?
For example, I've seen advice such as: "To save your battery, remove the people widget." I get four hours of battery @ 100% with the people widget, so am I lucky? Is that bad advice? At best, it appears anecdotal. What we owe the community, and the newb offenders that generated this topic is fact based, concise advise that is easy to read, easy to obtain, and easy to download.
I also think XDA should start adding moderators commensurate with its growth. Moderators should DELETE DELETE DELETE posts that burn time and energy when this information is readily available. XDA is nothing but a big ass database of information, and like any other database: Garbage in, Garbage out. We need to keep the forums clean with relevant information.
I agree with the OPs original aims: We should be gracious to newcomers and help people out. I'm sick and tired of reading snarky "go search you dumbass" posts, but I also agree, it does get REAL OLD seeing the same old "I flashed this and now I'm bootlooping, OMG, someone help me now"
One last point and I'll shut-up: The devs spend WAY TOO MUCH time doing bull**** troubleshooting. If we all stepped up and took care of the basic PD for their work, they'd be free to keep doing what we really want them doing and that's improving their ROMS, Apps, Themes etc. So while we work on figuring out how to manage information, you can best help out by answering every question you can so your friendly dev can keep coding.
Apologize for the rant...
What a waste of thread space on XDA.
Why enable dependence in people? They either learn it the right way, and learn to read on their own, or they should just leave and never come back. Once you've been here a while and see the baffling amount of stupidity and laziness that is exhibited by people who just "expect" everything to be served to them, I couldn't give a flying f**k if I'm nice to them or not.
On the other hand, if it's obvious that the person has done his own homework and is still unable to reach some sort of consensus on the matter, or is just trying to get affirmation on what he's about to do with his phone, then by all means for helping the person and making sure he doesn't end up with an electronic-has-been-brick.
XDA is not a handheld daycare center. I'd rather XDA grow slowly with people that are actually worth having, than having XDA grow like mushrooms overnight but filled with spoiled, self-justifying narcissists on what they deem should be their right when it comes to simple forum etiquette and common sense.

Give a man a fish (or thread link) and you feed him for a day... Teach him to fish (or search) and you feed him for a lifetime.

Finally! I couldn't agree more.
I will have to say that I think XDA desperately needs a wiki-post forum feature like the ones on slickdeals.net or fatwallet.
Would save a ton of time on these massive threads with posts that might have outdated info.

I couldn't disagree with this more. XDA is not an end user support forum, it is a forum for exploring new development techniques and ways to hack devices. The main purpose of XDA, in my opinion, is NOT to provide sweet consice fully working solutions. The purpose is to share information that leads up to finding complete solutions.
If new users want to find easy answers then they should use another forum, such as AndroidForums, which do a pretty good job of only linking back to XDA if it is a complete solution. If users want to use XDA then they need to deal with SEARCHING through the developmental process.
While the constant occurrence of people refusing to search on their own is annoying, I find the flat out disgust for anything not Android (or w/e forum you're in) to be painfully immature. It happens everywhere but there are too many posts on here that sound like a 12 year old "dissing" some other kid in school (iPhone the majority of the time).

Depends on how it is done. Personally I enjoy the friendly banter between IPhone an Android.
And it is interesting to compare issues between devices.

WTF is up with the pissing matches

What the hell is up with all the fighting going on in this forum. A lot of people seem to ***** and moan about every little detail. It seems that whenever i go in to the popular threads like. Eugene's, or the lag fix, etc. and hit the last page, there is a lot of arguing going on. Can't we just be patient and content with what we are offered by the awesome work of the dev's we got. If we continue to ***** and moan about every little thing all they are going to do is work for themselves and maybe a couple of close friends and leave us out because all we ever do is complain. I know we are all eager to use our sweet ass phone to its full potential, but its going to take time. Just look at the g1 and how long it took to have it running at full potential and beyond. All i'm asking for is peace in this thread and make it a pleasure to come in here and read about new developments in peace. [end rant]

I sincerely hope you don't believe this thread is going to stop anything. This forum has been the same for many years and It will never change. This forum is full of children and they're all going to argue and fight. Your best bet is to ignore it and continue to what you're doing. Posting a thread like this puts yourself right down at their level.
for real. Im not sure if 75% of people on xda are children, but 75% are definitely childish.
i have never seen so much childish like arguing, fighting, and comments in my life
If people posted their age (real of course) I would assume that the large majority are 12-17.
threads like this never seem to actually change anything, but it does make me feel a little better to see a few people not acting like 12 yr olds.
Im not getting all 'high and mighty' but i think i act like a 'normal' person (not a whiny brat).
--not saying that younger people should not be here, or course they should, they just should not act so stupid, aggressive, impatient, disrespectful, immature with the comments
Coming from ppcgeeks this place is a war zone. I actually stayed at ppcgeeks even when I had a nexus one because everyone here is so rude.
You make a new topic and God forbid there's been another one days ago made, so now everyone jumps on your case hard core.
Unfortunately I have to come here cause ppcgeeks is mainly cdma ..
But it took a learning curve coming here.. gotta put on war paint to make a thread or even a post..lol
or if people want to argue about silly little things they can use this thread or make one thread just for arguing, if thats what gets you off, but leave the development threads clean and only post about relevent things dealing with the actual thread
p.s. Thanks Mods for moving it to the proper forum

I do agree though no one should EVER ***** or complain to a developer.
However if someone states a flaw without going oh my god this ruined my phone, but only just states it I don't see why everyone has to try to jump on them (usually the case).
For example in one thread I stated that I missed froyo and I hate that the Vibrant doesn't have it yet. Someone asked me what i missed, I answered with exactly what I missed and examples and I got jumped on for being impatient about developers releasing it. Never once did I say I wanted CM or any develeoper to release it (in fact I want it directly from Samsung), but the pitch forks came screaming those aren't big deals and and i needed to stfu and wait for a developer to release it.... which was never my point.
Too many people think there way is the only right way to think. Its rather annoying to see how far people will go too. Also I find that alot of people in these pissing matches don't read entire posts which I find funny because 1 person is usually arguing with someone who has the same general opinion but slightly different and they make it out to be a night and day difference.

The Pessimism in the forum is almost benign...

Its almost humorous at how many negative threads there are, or how many threads start out positive and you have people come in and bring them down, I have never seen a forum this pissed off EVER, BUT I can say that we as Sprint customers are getting a little tired of the **** we are dealing with, I like many of you just want CTIA to come, I mean the Echo is cool and all but not for me. Also people are ripping on the new Pre 3, I for one am interested, so what if it has 1 core.... SERIOUSLY it may just be me but isn't functionality override the e-boner you get lol?
That said, I will now hide behind my stone wall.
Not going to lie... I love Android, and love my Evo... but the Pre 3 and a TouchPad make for a killer combo... I liked their presentation today.... HP is doing something right, and that is the fact that they are releasing a WiFi only version before their other variants.
As far as the negativity going on in XDA, don't sweat it. There are trolls everywhere online. Best to simply ignore, or if you can't, ask Shift to give out the "thunderous back hand" of his!!!
I think a lot of people in here forget that not all of us grew up screwing with this stuff. That rooting and flashing and all that aren't second nature to us. And I understand some of the sarcasm given to certain posts... though a lot of people are rude to a belligerent degree.
I've opened dumb threads and had my ass handed to me from people, understandably. But sometimes it crosses the line from being facepalmed to being gangraped.
The funny thong is I have noticed the opposite that you posted. Compared to a couple other forums I check out this one has a lot more comradery and people can usually ask a relevant question without too much high school attitude.
yes, there is still a decent amount of rudeness but for as frustrated as a lot of the more informed members can get with the barrage of stupid questions, things tend to stay pretty civil.
Plus, we can always blame shift
I think the Echo announcement is the cherry on top. People have been pretty down on Sprint since their Premier and discount policy chances, and the new $10 tax on any smartphone. =/

Samsung trouble, deals coming

|Mentioned, and doubted, in many topics about their business hurting from stupid decisions, here is some more to add.
Samsung just reported that their big daddy S5 has sold a whopping 40% less than they predicted.
As I said. they are eating ass right now and you will see some deals coming.
Someone posted inquiring about Note 4 deals. They will come. They are counting big on this in this quarter to help the bleeding.
Supposedly they are betting a lot on the S6. Whole new redesign and more.
So those waiting for the Note 4, I am sure you will see some great deals coming. Just give it a few days.
Edit: Those talking of petitions and calls, ignore the "waste of time"comments. Now is the time to do it, I know business and of all times this would be a great time to apply pressure.
Please keep in mind, please, that when talking, contacting, or whatever guns that route be professional ( proofread!), know your goal, be direct and do not ramble, and never make threats (this advice comes from experience ).
Also, a thousand Well thought out letters /emails will do more good than a thousand signatures.
Anyway, just trying to help
I realize there are errors in my post. So no jokes, I just do not feel like fixing them.
