Hello,
My home button (and fingerprint along) had died so I disassembled the phone to see how it's made and discovered that most likely if I wanted to replace the home button, I would have to replace the whole front panel (screen) because home button is bonded to the front panel. Is there a way to separate the home button from the screen? If yes, how is this possible? I need some advice from people who were in the same situation as me and managed to get it done correctly.
Thanks!
Bump
But where will you get another home button and how will you connect it to the screen?

I would get it on aliexpress, there are lots of people selling it. It has a connecto, that's not a problem. The only problem is separating the button from the screen.

Hey all, I'm new to the forums but I can't wait to get my 8125 working. I bought a replacement screen on ebay and a broken 8125.. on receipt all I got was a white screen, then last night I replaced with the new screen and got the cingular logo and the windows mobile "touch anywhere to set up.." message.
Well, touching it did nothing, and the keyboard didn't work, so i opened it up again.
Somehow when I opened it up, the power switch button circuit thing detached from the mainboard (and it looks like the owner before me had actually crazy glued it on!!) .. and now the thing won't power up, won't show a charge light... nothing at all when plugged in or attached to my PC. So I hope that detached power button is the culprit. Upon further inspection I saw that yet another had detached but I can't seem to find where it landed... this one for the little button next to the slider, I don't really know what it does yet.. .
.. so I guess first step is to solder that power button back on and see what happens. Does it sound like a missing power button circuit thing would cause the unit to no longer power on at all (even when soft reset when connected to PC, which used to power it on?)
Pete
i did this. it is hell to solder on. I would say replace the phone

Argh.. well, i'll give it a go with the power switch.... do you think it will affect the phone to be missing the comm manager switch off the mainboard too... or will the phone still function without this piece soldered on?

Yes, the power on/off button being broken is the reason why you had a white screen, and only getting the splash screen after replacing the touch screen. If you're a good assembly man, I'd suggest try to solder the button back ln place or replace the device. As for the button by the volume slider, that's the comm manager button. If you can ever get to the homescreen, the comm manager icon to activate the comm manager (bluetooth, WiFi, etc. is in the system tray at the bottom of the homescreen.
It sounds to me the new screen was replaced improperly, accounting for nothing happening when you tap it.Try re-installing the replacement screen.

Okay, so basically heres the story. Idiot makes me drop my phone on cement horsing around while I was taking a video, cracked my digitizer. Get someone to replace digitizer and he cracked the lcd screen, replaced that too and lost the button pad for the bottom: call/back/home/power.
As of a week or so ago, the CONTACT PAD for the power button fell off, so now I can't use the power button at all. If it shuts down, its game over for my phone. Is there a fix that I can use? Can't really afford a new phone or a new mobo for the hd2 now.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
What are you using android, winmo? If its android you can use the app "button remapper" and remap the hardware buttons.
Tried the app I found, it didn't work.
Is there a "free" button remapper that works?
Button remappers only work once the OS is loaded up. It won't do anything for the power button if your phone turns off (full power-off).
Solution: Make idiot buy you a new phone.
I dropped my Nexus 4 face down on the cement and the (screen?) is cracked. I can see everything fine under the cracks (LCD works) but the touch does not.
Do you think I may need a whole new screen or just the digitizer? Its cracked really bad.

as far as I know N4 have digitizer and screen combined so both will be replaced. otherwise too your screen is cracked so need replacement and touch is not working so need to change digitizer too. i think that costs around 100$
yes you can change the digitizer only around 25-30$ for material
here is video

But it would be easier to change the whole thing LCD and digitizer
I decided might as well get a Nexus 5 and sell this broken Nexus 4. Now the question is how do I reset it without the touch screen? Its there a way to do it plugged into the computer? Thanks.

Figured it out...
If your phone is on, turn it off.
Press & hold the Volume Down button, and then press & hold the Power button simultaneously until the device turns on. You'll see the word "Start" with an arrow drawn around it.
Press the Volume Down button twice to highlight Recovery mode.
Press the Power button to restart into Recovery mode. You'll see an image of an Android robot with a red exclamation mark.
While holding down the Power button, press the Volume Up button.
Use the volume buttons to scroll to "wipe data/factory reset" and press the Power button to select it.
Scroll down to "Yes - erase all user data" and press the Power button to select it.
Note: If at any point during the above steps your phone becomes unresponsive, you can restart it by holding down the Power button for several seconds.
Hello!
I damaged my recent app button's sensor cable while replacing my screen. Afterwards I ordered a new usb board, but interestingly that didn't solve my issue, so I assumed that something else got damaged on my mainboard. Anyway I closed up my phone and glued the screen in place without a working button.
Can anyone help me with remapping my home button so that a double or long press would open my recent apps?
Thank you all in advance!
just use the tool that puts the buttons on screen
tasker's "assistance request" trigger can be tied to long-press-home so you can use it for all kinds of stuff.
for me it opens the dialer.
So my buddies HTC bolts home button has been giving him issues. Then yesterday totally stopped working. I looked up how do replace it and the process isn't he hard the only thing is I can't find a replacement button anywhere. I searched on ebay HTC bolt replacement home button and HTC 10 Evo home button replacement with no luck. Do anyone know were to get one?
Thanks
are you still looking for a button? I have a bolt with a broken screen but the home button and fingerprint scanner works perfectly. I might be taking it apart soon and if I do I wouldn't mind sending you the home button.
