How rooting and stock firmware updates work on Moto X Play?

So, I'm coming from a "dead" Sammy Galaxy S3. I want to know of you, Moto users, how are these things on Moto X Play. I mean..
In my dead S3, I rooted using Odin and, when stock updates still existed, I was unable to update on phone and had to use Odin to flash the whole rom. After this, the root access disappear and I had to root it again using Odin.
How this things works on Motorola devices? I have already learned how to root the X Play but, after rooting, how do I update my stock firmware when any update become available? Do I have to update in the phone in the stock method (like a dream :fingers-crossed or Motorola devices got a flashing tool such as Odin?

Just download the file, unzip, and then manually flash using fastboot. There is a Moto tool you could use as well I believe, but I prefer fastboot. Gives you a better sense overall of what's happening, and you know what you are doing.

"just download the file" You mean, the firmware file, right? Is there a "samfirmware" from Motorola?
So, considering that this is the method used to flash a stock firmware over a rooted-stock firmware, what happens to the root access?

Root will go away unless you find a pre-rooted system image. Pretty much what would happen with a stock firmware file for any phone

My main question is: How is the process to back to a stock rom after rooting and installing TWRP or something like that?

More than likely you would download a stock image file from Motorola and install it using the "fastboot" command on your computer

Well, it's been some days that I created this thread. Now I know it's neccessary to remove root and reflash stock firmware on MXP to update for 6.0 update, for example (the same process as other Moto devices) . I never did this, but i'm not afraid because we got XDA and we have a lot of tutorials explaining how to do these things. The "scary" part is that a I see a lot of people asking for full firmwares and etc. I mean, I know the firmware from my region is different than the others (and this can easily mess firmware's modem or something like that - messing the imei also).
If we only had a "deposit" of firmwares like samfirware for sammy devices...

it gave me to understand that, If I unlock the bootloader of my phone and root it, but not installing custom recovery (for example), I'll still be able to receive and install successfully OTA updates?

I've posted a fastboot guide and a link to a stock firmware thread In the second post of this thread. If you can't find the image you're looking for just ask in that firmware thread, it's been getting updated regularly.

X1575 US to 6.0.1 with root?

So I am wanting to root my phone (for multiple reasons - tether reenabled, other fun software, etc), but if I do that, I'd like to move to 6.0.1 if possible. Before I do it, I wanted to check to see if the Stock rom in this would work: http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...rom-stock-rooted-debloated-x1575-6-0-t3262242 I am a little concerned about using this ROM since it's modified from the 1572 ROM and what might happen with little bugs. Wish I could just do an easy root without having to do a whole bunch of crap to get it done (like my old Galaxy S4 that was easy to root with towelroot.)
Are there any other disadvantages to using this besides not having future OTA updates? (not that I am really expecting any more for Motorola these days.)

this is all documented in the original 6.0.1 thread. Flash all 6.0.1 files except modem, flash twrp, flash su 2.62-3, flash franken.

How to return to original firmware from CM13

Hello everybody,
I have a Moto x play running CM 13. I followed the process listed somewhere in this forum and successfully installed cm 13.
Bad news is my laptop got stolen at uni. I had installed Motorola drivers and all that stuff in there, so now I'm wondering if I can go through this process without that laptop. I hope I can.
I only have the cellphone and I would like to return it to its original firmware so I can sell it.
Is there a safe way to do this without "bricking" my phone? I'm not very well versed in these processes and managed to install cm13 only because the procedure was very clear. I hope you guys can help me!
The original carrier is Iusacell (Mexico), although the cellphone itself is unlocked and takes any Sim.

to flash original firmware without PC you can use Chainfire's Flashfirehttp://forum.xda-developers.com/general/paid-software/flashfire-t3075433, however - it's still kinda experimental, needs some knowlege, and I'm not really sure if it supports our device. Reading through its thread may give you some clues. This will not revert your phone to out-of-the-box condition - that would take relocking your bootloader and PC is needed to do so (warranty will be still voided anyway). So maybe just try flashing some stock ROM in TWRP. The procedure will be the same as flashing CM.

I feel more comfortable with the second option. I found this github with MXP ROMs for my country and carrier: https://github.com/motoxplay/stock
I honestly can't remember if I had it at the beginning with Android 5 or 6. What happens if I flash Android 6 and it originally was 5? I suppose I should make a backup "nandroid" first.
BTW, can the bootloader be locked again via a new PC?

Flashing newer firmware won't break anything, it's a normal update. Worse thing would be if you tried to flash Lollipop over Marshmallow.
Making backup is always a good idea, do mind however, that flashing full stock firmware means overwriting your TWRP with stock recovery. Also, be aware the files you linked are actually firmware and not TWRP flashable zips.
And yes, you should be able to relock bootloader with original firmware.

Sry about the terrible shorthand. Finally broke down and factory reset my verizon gs5. Before setting up i decided to roll it back, root it, and get a debloated PB1 rom from here:

So, if like me, and you have the nov/dec VZW OTA update on your phone PJ2 if i recall, this link got me rolled back and rooted. This method added busybox which i didn't really understand, safestrap which i actually kinda liked, and initially kingroot then the flash went to superSU.
I kinda liked the marshmallow os a touch better with the google now launcher and everything verizon as removed as possible vs 5.x.x. Basically the verizon OTA update to marshmallow essentially bricked my phone (not enough space after like 3 years of never re-formatting). I love my tablet that essentially runs just a bare bones no BS google android marshmallow software similar to what a pixel has or nexus had.

This successfully unlocked the bootloader. They omit that you should make sure you have the rom on he phone or sd card before starting. So before using odin make sure the rom is on the phone and matched the bootloader unlocker you wish to use. This method of flashing used TWRP recovery which i found to be...different than safestrap but functional all the same.
QUESTION 1
Is there a rom for the SM-G900V that is similar or identical to a non branded google device like how the pixel comes stock?
I haven't messed around with the phone since unlocking the bootloader and flashing it to the VZW_BPB1_ODEX_DEODEX_V9 using the TWRP Recovery. Basically if my best bet is a debloated stock but rooted vzw rom that is 6.x.x and then manually removing/deactivating the garbage from vzw apps i'll do it. But figured this was the place to ask if there was already a rom out there that works on the SM-G900V. Because i can easily put a rom that does the job instead of tinkering more than i have too.
QUESTION 2
Now that i used the SafeStrap_PB1_Bootloader_Unlock_AIO.zip and flashed VZW_BPB1_ODEX_DEODEX_V9.zip using the method from the second link. It APPEARS i can just load a 6.x.x rom and use TWRP Recovery to flash that. Am i mistaken? Will i need to do the unlock bootloader process over for the PD1 PF4 or whatever boatloader unlocker corresponds with the rom. OR...now that the bootloader is no longer verizon'ed can i basically swap roms to my hearts content as long as they do not also try to install a new bootlaoder??
I have no idea how to "tag" either poster from the links i mentioned but i'm certain many here as well as they could answer both questions easily.

Complete noob here, so please be gentle!
I recently bought a new, "unlocked" LG V20 from an auction site.
The trouble is it came with AT&T carrier ROM, which being in the UK and not on AT&T means that it's stuck with the all of the branding and no access to updates.
Build number: NRD90M
Software version: H91010I
Android security patch level: December , 2016
If it's at all possible, I'd like to flash it with a generic non-carrier LG ROM, but unsure of what ROMs are safe to use on this phone, or exactly how to go about doing it.
I've looked at lots of forums and Youtube videos, but many of the links I've found are broken, or the instructions assume a level of previous knowledge that I don't have.
I'm not looking for the very latest firmware, or any trick customisations. I just want a phone that doesn't annoy me!
Can anyone advise what ROM to use, where to download it, and step by step instructions to install it without bricking my phone.

Being on 10i dirty santa method may work
I always stayed with stock rooted debloated roms on the V20. Most all the custom roms don't support the second screen or have something else I just didn't like.

Use dirty santa, to unlock the bootloader and root, then you can flash 996 rom which should be unbranded

Try Super Rom. It's bare bones. No bloatware from LG or ATT.
Follow the steps here to flash TWRP https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/root-h910-v10m-t3664500. I'm having trouble with backups fully restoring, but it works otherwise.
I'd imagine you could install Super Rom right after you can access TWRP, but I haven't tried it. I did it after flashing 10r.
Download Super Rom and put it on your SD card. Flash it after wiping everything https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/development/rom-superv20-h918-t3764390. During the installation, it will ask you if you want to flash a kernel. Select mk2000. The speed difference is astounding. It's slow and lags without the kernel, but extremely fast if you include it. Boot system and set it up. Then go back to TWRP and flash SuperSU for root.

You can just flash a US996 KDZ using patched LGUP, unticking modem. Don't accept OTA updates though

Is there any particular version of the rom to look for, or any to avoid.

Just flash the newest US996 KDZ, don't worry about modem (they're both GSM only devices, so US996 modem should work on the h910, and it'll also change the unlocked-bands to US996). Use the patched LGUP from this forum, it allows cross flashing
