Hi Fellow Members,
Seeing many post on the development threads in all section which are not completely relevant with the development but sometime due to normal bootloader unlock, FRP unlock, root issues, even normal discussion on OTA etc which flood the development thread sometimes and if a new users come up with any issue or any question, they need to repost as the thread is long and extending multiple pages and they could not find the solution or answer of the same in all those pages, even though answered few times but due to more number of pages or just because new users are not aware of how search works on XDA they repost the same thing.
So, I though of creating this new thread so that we can discuss all development related and little off topics related with ROM in this thread and keep the development thread clean enough so that it is purely for development related questions and really critical and important stuffs with sufficient logs etc.
Please continue discussion on any ROM, recovery, TWRP etc in this thread and lets keep the development thread clean enough.
Good initiative. I had created a thread yesterday for a proper rooting method. And very soon , we shall all see ROMs as well. First one will probably be AOSP based

Same info is already mention multiple times.
Yeah , noticed it was already there after i posted it ......
Can be closed and removed .
Multiple threads are already available on this subject. Also, you posted in the wrong section. Thread moved to General and closed.
Was wondering if we can get a ROM section with all ROMs in one place?
That would be sweet.
The dev section is more or less a rom section.
I don't think a separate section is needed, but what would help is a common format to identify threads which contain ROM's. For example, starting a ROM thread with "[ROM]". Iced Glacier is an example of a ROM thread that doesn't follow that format and therefore doesn't stand out as much as it could.
Maybe a sub section within the dev area....
Have you checked out the Wiki?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Glacier
Section 1.4 sounds like exactly what you are looking for.
Nice suggestion but no need to clutter the forums section as its already classified under Dev. Now I understand it maybe little hard for new users to get use to on what is what from thread title. But one must do research on howto and find it for themselves as if you brick it you are responsible for your own actions.
Best thing I can tell new user is they ask the folks in General or Q&A section to help them list stable roms and report their user feedback on pro/con about the rom this way you can get many input and ultimately flash it yourself and decide.

Oh nice.
Thanks

Realistically, seasoned users have no issues finding roms in the dev section, and new users shouldn't even be aloud to read thre dev section until they've been here for a while and have the chance to learn a little bit so they have a clue before they start trying to flash their phones.
Hey,
Was wondering if it was possible to upgrade a NAND rom without loosing all my apps, contacts, images etc. Reason being that I have a very early build which has some missing features such as GPS and I really need them. I have been using this build for a while now an have added new contacts, installed apps and have a lot of data on it generally. Is there any way that I can update to a new build whilst keeping my data?
Thanks in advance

if u upgrade u're rom by ClockWorkMod all app and sms and . . . still alive and dont change.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877777
in this topic a video show u how can u upgrade u're rom with ClockWorkMode.
It amazes me that there are people in these forums who are smart enough to to install android rom on there phone, but they still can't figure out where to post a question. There is a forum for questions and there is a forum android development, and yet they still pick the development forum for questions. Why is this concept so hard to understand. Haven't you noticed that there isn't any other questions being asked in this forum except yours?

Its because they know more people view the nand development forum than the Q&A forum so they have more chance of getting an answer to their question.
I noticed a while ago a mod from another xda forum posting a question in the nand dev forum for that very same reason.
Simple solution, don't answer people who start question threads in dev forums until they are moved to the proper place.
Regards.
Titanium Backup
The name is Titanium Backup

So you don't want people to answer your question in the nand dev forums until it is moved to Q&A forums. Then why didn't you just post in the Q & A forum in the first place. You saw another person posting in the nand dev forum, so now you feel like you should do the same. So now other people will see your question and then will post there own questions in the nand dev forum and the trend will continue. The last thing everyone wants is the nand dev forums flooded with questions. By the way, a quick search in the forums, you could have found an answer to your original question.

If you bothered to read my reply i was agreeing with the person i quoted "YOU" and was only stating the reason some people are posting questions in the Dev forum. Example,,,, the mod who had posted a question in the Nand Dev forum for that very reason.
I was also saying people should not answer questions put in the dev forums until it has been moved to the proper place. They will then have to wait until it has been moved which could be hours if the mods are not about or busy. Getting a quick reply in the dev forum only encourages others to do the same.
If you can find any question i have started in a Dev form you can have my HD2 for free.
Idiot.
I seem to have started a row. I appoligise for starting this thread where I did. I hope you two can still be friends! Thanks for the help will use the clockwork mod as soon as I can!

You can't use CWM unless the ROM is CMW friendly.
You need Titanium Backup - free in the market. (The paid version is WELL worth it though!)

When I click that link I get the following. Has the thread been deleted or am I not permitted access because of my post count? It says you cannot post with less than 10 posts, but it doesn't say you cannot view. Am I doing something wrong?
knickfan5745, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
Please Read: New members (those with fewer than 10 posts) are not permitted to post to development-related forums. The developer forums are intended for experienced users and developers to discuss ways to improve technical aspects related to ROMs and Software. While you may be an expert, we ask ALL users to avoid posting questions about using or installing ROMs and software in the Development Forums. To encourage this new Users can read but not post in these forums.
To ask Questions about developing your device, installing ROMs, software and themes you must go to the Q&A or General Forum.
Remember, your question has very likely been asked already, so please search before posting.
Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?

I think it is silly that I can download and install custom ROMS from these forums but I have no way to post questions or my review of said roms because I am not allowed to post in the Development forums without having made 10 posts elsewhere first.
Well this is post #8
Post in the general section for now. And that rule is there to keep people from signing up just to spam the development section. Its inconvienient to those who truly want to contribute, but its there for our own good and the site is a lot cleaner because of it.
I fully understand that reasoning, it's just frustrated to use a ROM and not being able to post questions about it in the thread for that ROM.
One more post until I can post in the Development Forums

Hit thanks if i helped.
Sorry for being a killjoy, but this belongs to general.
If you havn't developed it, it doesn't really belong in development.

I dont understand your question..My post won't affect any one in any way.
I agree, I'ts AWESOME!! :good:
I just think this s3mini dev section is cluttered with general posts.
Even rooted stock firmware should belong to general as there is no developement done. Just adding a few already existing files doesn't really make it developement imo, unless you add your own scripts, mods, tweaks or something.
Same goes for threads with guides, tips, questions, pure stock firmware. None of it really belong in dev-section as nothing has been developed or not even had an intention to develop anything. This section is full of things like that!
Yeah people want to reset the counter, but if they have questions about it they should go to q&a or general. It has already been posted on several places within s3mini section.
The forum also have a search function and you will find info that triangle away now supports i8190. No need to post everything everywhere.
This section is cluttered and needs to be cleaned up. This is just my opinion but I think some agree.
As an example, this is how a dev section should look like.
Thank you.
any one have tested if work ? if worked just confirme to dev and if not just give hime report
AW: Download Binary Counter Reset app support
Yes, it works.
Also when its nonsense in this part of development,
I think there will be many many hapy users like me who doesn t know this new thing.
I accept the rules.
The order is most important!
But i think a little "chaos" will help people with chreativiy (?) to find more neccessary ideas to help the world.
And hardlinking is a way to share info to the world.
Why should only Galaxy S 2 users to be able to know this new app?
Otherwise i suppose, the thread from chainfire about the triangle away belongs to General Android Section. Hmpf...
Well, in future i suppose to make things as it rules.
Thanks, i m fresh here in the forum.

I never said it was nonsense. Only that it was in wrong section.
This is nothing against you at all. No hard feelings!
I'ts more of a question why the moderators doesn't do their job!?!?
After all there's six of them but I havn't seen none of them doing anything.

Oh well..so these rules don't apply anymore?
General Forums - For news and announcements relating to your device.
Q&A Forums - For all question threads / posts. If there is no Q&A forum use the device General Forum
Accessories subforum - For posts related to accessories relevant to the phone model
Development Forums (ones with the word development in the title) - For developers to post release threads e.g. ROMs and Kernels including modifications to Kernels, Bootloaders, ROMs, etc.
Themes and Apps Forums - For themers to post Themes and App. announcements & discussions including modifications made to Apps and Themes.
Afaik Dev-section is for developers to post their work, not for regular users to post other peoples work.. Am I wrong?
About bug reports, it would be better to post them in original thread. How else would Chainfire take notice about them?
have some one teasted on LA version i8190L
Thanks
