How many times has there been multiple official builds for the same Android version? The JWR build pushed ota to our phones is much more stable than the JSS Roms. However for some reason AOSP supports the JSS build which also means everyone building Roms is also using JSS as a base. Sorry but "occasional" deadlocks and freezes is something isn't stable. Cataclysm is a JWR based ROM that works really well. Just wanted to see what else is out there.
Anyone else mystified why AOSP would support some broken build of 4.3 when a stable build of the same version is available?
Anyway, sorry to rant. I'll be happy when stock and AOSP are on the same page again. Come on 4.3.1!

I have read the thread. I felt the need to rant despite that somewhat informational thread. Aside from that I ask legitimate and pertinent questions. Apparently you cant answer them. Nice bloated sig:good:
there are constantly different builds for aosp, while stock stays the same until an official ota update. aosp is constantly getting stuff added/fixed, since the very beginning, with differing build numbers. the difference being this time there is a big difference(change) in the kernel and graphics.

Hey thanks for the info. But usually stock and AOSP share the same build if I'm not mistaken. I personally can't recall a time when they didn't. Aside from that I can't grasp why AOSP would officially support a build known to be broken. The best developer in the world can't somehow fix a broken source. Also not sure what you mean by aosp being constantly updated and fixed? As a n4 user how could I reap the benefits of all these changes aside from waiting for an OTA update?

as soon as there is new code available, it gets dropped into aosp immediately(usually). lets say the build number is rtt234(made up), aosp can add a rtt234a, rtt234b, rtt234c.. just like it happened for 4.2.2. aosp supports the latest build, they dont go backward. just because something might not work right, i can and will get fixed. but, just so you know, aosp can get updated 10+ times before stock sees 1 update. anyways, the issue that you are talking about, the freeze in the keyboard, affects everyone a bit differently. some people havent had one freeze yet, others get it constantly and are very annoyed. it happens to me one or twice every 2-3 days, so it doesnt bother me at all.

My point is even though AOSP is updated constantly how does the user reap the benefits or update to the latest build if its not official? I'm pretty sure they can't. Pretty sure developers can only build from an official source. So AOSP updating constantly really is a nice idea however if updated builds aren't published why should I care?

JSS is a development branch. The reason why AOSP has multiple branches is because JSS has last minute fixes for The new Nexus 7. Google knew these changes broke other devices but didn't have time to fix them so they just gave other Nexus JWR. Most custom ROMs just supports JSS because it's the latest.

builds are published constantly. look at the development threads. for example, Rasbean jelly, an aosp ROM, gets built that day or the next, after a code drop. that's the beauty of running aosp builds. stock ROM users get updates only after an ota, while anyone can build from aosp whenever they feel like it.

Only if you look at Master branch. There are more recent commits in the device-specific branches...
Still I'm not expecting it any time soon. You can build with prebuilt-kernel, hence the current Lineage port and soon something a little different.
Yes it's hugely disappointing to not have kernel source and it does restrict some of the more fun things but at the same time it isn't MIUI and variety is always nice.
Expect something more exciting coming soon, I had some data loss and other things to deal with but now I have a little more time to spend on this.

Kernel building from scratch is a hell of a challenge without sources, even for developers hugely more experienced than me. The same kernel is compatible across a lot of devices here and there's a reason none of building it themselves. Even LineageOS where they're soon going to be adding Mi5s Plus with official support isn't using custom kernel.
I was hoping 5/6 months from release we'd have kernel but, as you know, nothing yet. Maybe 5/6 months from International release (I think Taiwan counts as international)
But using prebuilt kernel is a way to still have some custom roms. Once MIUI 9 (or 8 based on Android 7) is released that will help things a bit but in the mean time. I am working away at getting something much better than what we have at the moment.

Which are differences between ROM you linked and this one (https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-note-2/development/unofficial-lineage-14-1-ported-build-t3574298) ? It's not the same?
OP3T still is on the March 1st security patch (2017-03-01), and is missing the fixes corresponding to 2017-03-05 patch (8 critical items of which at least 6 should be applicable to OP3T) and both 2017-04-01 and 2017-04-05 security patch levels (at least 1 huge critical item plus a lot of slightly smaller ones).

I don't really care because i think the phone is awesome, the price was awesome and the constant updates is absolutely amazing. But it is a bit bizarre i get 2 updates a month on the beta yet they can't for some reason include the latest security patches. Like why do something so well then slightly ruin it?

Security updates bring along bugs. That's why security patches aren't included in updates so often.
And do you really think someone is exploiting your data through these exploits.
Most exploits don't even concern anything remotely dangerous to data.
Even apps on playstore tend to theft data more then any exploit did till date.

Oxygen OS is the best ROM/OS I've ever used,
And was the main reason for me to choose a OP3T over others phones.

Best stock ROM out there, honestly. Closest to AOSP as you're going to find.
Aosp is boring. And as soon as oneplus 5 releases you can say bye bye to oos updates for the 3 and 3t. Better start getting used to custom ROMs if you want any future for your device. And oneplus has already stopped updating security patches. Custom ROM devs are much better with keeping up with everything. OOS doesn't even have 7.1.2 yet and I always see OOS users complaining about not having this or that feature or how they can get it. Which most custom roms have all of the features that everyone wants right of the bat. And if you really want a good aosp experience there are plenty of OOS based roms with lots of extra goodies out there. Like aosp extended or freedomos plus lots of others. OOS is basically just base bones with features that aren't even that useful and if you try to say that you can switch to dark mode and change accents then I say substratum. Which almost every ROM out there supports oms now. The way I see it is people who stick to stock are afraid of changing and tinkering with their device or just don't know how to. Bottom line is OOS is terrible best rom for this phone is resurrection remix hands down.

i used custom roms before the day you got you're first android phone and joined XDA.
Android gained maturity since marshmallow,
OOS has all the details missing from Stock android(wich is the best)
So you would like to believe. I know what I'm doing and have been modding since way before marshmallow. Your the type to complain to everyone here at xda when something goes wrong. I just fix out on my own. OOS sucks and that's that of you can't use a custom rom without problems then that's your not knowing what your doing.

I'd usually agree with you about custom Roms but RR is mature and truly is excellent and as good as if not better than OOS and is on April security with 7.1.2.
No doubt the custom ROMs are probably solid. But stock 7.1.1 oos (+beta) is the best stock ROM I have ever used. Fast, smooth, very close to asop with some nice tweaks. It matches the hardware nicely. It really should have up to date security patches. Maybe mention it to the couple of OnePlus guys on the forums, like @Funk Wizard @innocentwoolf
I'm guessing those guys are linked to OP, just from what I have seen, not for sure. Sorry if I'm mistaken guys.
As Android is further refined, there are fewer and fewer reasons to use a custom ROM for most users,custom ROMs will always be relevant to entry-level/midrange smartphone users, or those who still use older devices, that aren't receiving official updates from OEMs anymore.

I am about to get a Axon 7 within a week and I am curious to know which rom(s) are useful for everyday usage aka daily driver rom.
There are tons and I am all confused about the matter.
The custom ROM support for this device isn't great, but it does have all the popular ones like ResurrectionRemix, LineageOS, AICP and AospExtended. My favourite at the moment is DARK ROM which is basically LOS 14.1 with some additional modifications; like the UI sounds from the Google Pixel, OMS theming support and unlocking after boot without PIN number. Once LOS 15 (8.0 Oreo) is released I will switch to that and use it as my daily-driver until the other custom ROM's also upgrade to Oreo.

It's a bit of shame that the support isn't there since this phone is really amazing.
Out of all roms you mentioned which one is the most stable and less "bloated" one?
I have no problem with stock but there is some issues that I am wondering if custom roms have fixed, like dropped calls(think it's software that messes with signal, never happened before) and random low volume.

Yeah, it's unfortunate that there isn't better support for this phone. I didn't realise when I bought it about a month ago that the situation was like this. Even my ZUK Z2 had a better community behind it which surprises me.
The most stable and least bloated ROM is definitely LineageOS, as that's the closest you can get to stock Android in the form of custom ROM's with just a few additional mods. DARK ROM as I mentioned before is just LineageOS with some extra enhancements. Both are stable but if you're after an officially-supported ROM with proper OTA updates, then LineageOS is the best option. I would recommend flashing Magisk v14.0 afterwards if you're interested in root support.
Over the last few months, ROM teams began feature locking and doing final Nougat builds to start work on Oreo. This period always leaves us dry for a time being. I've seen dry spells like this since KitKat. I anticipate a wave of ROMs in the coming months. Until then, there is a fine selection of ROMs to choose from. I do agree that the selection is a bit sparse compared to other phones. There is just enough to satisfy a flashaholics urge to tinker.
Let's hope the coming surge is better than the last.

I am not a flashaholic but I know that most fixes are always done in custom roms or they optimize battery stuff, user experience and the ability to have custom kernel and schedulers are always welcome.

Good point. I keep forgetting the fact that most of the ROM teams are working on their final builds of Nougat and beginning progress with Oreo. At the moment it does feel like there is a slight lack of development, but like you said there is still a decent selection to choose from. (Lineage, AEX, AICP, RR, etc.) I did expect LineageOS 15 to have arrived already after seeing the screenshots and estimate of 1-3 days in the development thread, but that was of course 3 weeks ago and unfortunately it ended up getting delayed quite substantially. (I'm sure our patience will be rewarded though, if it means a more stable first release!)
The next few months should be exciting and i'm definitely looking forward to it, but for the moment it is a difficult time for us 'flashaholics' awaiting the initial builds of Oreo. I should probably indulge myself in another hobby rather than obsessing about when Android 8.0 will arrive on the Axon 7.

Also just noticed with stock rom playing games really drains the battery fast, REALLY fast. Every 3rd min is a 1%.
Another funny thing I noticed is that with stock rom if I press a folder and then exit the folder and then press again, the whole launcher crashes and restarts.
Oh and I noticed that the wifi connection isn't stable.
I don't get that behaviour with my A2017G. What ROM is it on ? Mine is Nougat B04 (AU).

So I am curious about roms/kernels.
I want to try a rom/kernel but I have been seeing there are a few roms that have something called "callbug" where the speakers make noise when a call is going on and when answering the mics are muted or call will be interrupted, no idea tbh.
So I would like to avoid a rom with such bug.
I'm back on Verizon after switching to Sprint back in 2008. So I recently picked up a mint condition Verizon Note 4 so I could have a little fun building a new Note 7 port ROM. Many of you may know me as the creator of the Ultimate Note 7 ROM for the Sprint Note 4. I'm here to tell all of you that I've been working on a new Ultimate Note 7 ROM for the Verizon Note 4. It is nearly ready for public beta release! With the experience I have porting Samsung Touchwiz ROM's. I figured it is long overdue for the Verizon Note 4 users. My port ROM has official and original Verizon Note 7 framework, apps, etc. So instead of trying to make international port ROM's work, which is no simple task unless you know what you're doing, get ready for a true Verizon compatible Note 7 ROM. Those of you who still have your Verizon Note 4 and want to get more life and use from it with a fresh look and feel, look for a new ROM thread soon.
I need a few reliable and knowledgeable testers. The S8 and N8 ROM's are Nougat 7.0. The N4 has been cut off at Android 6.0 and doesn't have official Samsung Nougat 7.0 kernel source, therefore the Snapdragon N4 can't run Android 7.0. ROM's. If this was possible we would have a lot of excited dev's continuing to build 7.0 TouchWiz ROM's for the N4. Unfortunately Marshmallow 6.0 is all we have for the N4 so the N7 Marshmallow software and perhaps some ported S8/N8 apps is as good as it gets for the N4. What i'm doing is building a solid N7 base ROM for the Verizon N4. Once it's ready I will upload it as a stock base rom. Other dev's can use my base to build out custom ROM's with mods, ROM control, Xposed, etc, etc. This will eliminate the need to fix any network related features. It will all work as it should. International N7 port ROM's are not compatible with the U.S. CDMA carrier's features. This is why we need a true Verizon N7 base rom. I know it's a little late and many people have upgraded to newer phones but if there's still users here wanting to run a proper Verizon N7 ROM, this will be it.
With this said, I welcome any and all testers and dev's to pitch in and help test and troubleshoot minor bugs. PM me if you're interested in helping with this. The ROM is 100% complete and operational but I'm working on minor bugs with a few system apps.

I realize the Note 4 has been cut off at Android 6.0, but how are devs able to come up with a 7.1.2 ROM for it? User hsbadr has three: LineageOS, ResurrectionRemix. and EmotionOS (this one seems to be discontinued). I haven't used any of his ROMs for quite some time, because they seem a bit buggy, to me, but that's beside the point I'm getting at. How is he able to make a 7.0 ROM and others can't seem to? That said, why wouldn't an 8.0 ROM be possible?

You're talking about AOSP ROM's. Those ROM's are open source from Google, not Samsung Touchwiz ROM's. Big difference. The kernels they build are not compatible with Samsung Touchwiz ROM's

Hello, I am still rocking the note 4 Verizon. And I will be keeping it as long as devoted members such as yourself put out great roms! That being said I would like to be a beta tester if you so need one. I have a little knowledge in troubleshooting and the like, mostly my expertise is in repairing and building phones. I have a whole closet that's devoted to phone parts repair, and computer systems repair. My last few phones I have held on to until the dev section went quiet, note 2, Moto atrix, moto bionic... they were awesome with deodexed/rooted roms... I am addicted to flashing new roms to find the right balance between performance and battery...
By the way, one slight request, when all said and done fixing most of the bugs, don't forget to make sure the rom has a kernel that is compatible with extended batterys. Most of us holding out with our outdated note 4, usually have those huge batteries hanging off the back...lol

No worries. I'm using the Flashpoint kernel and there's also an extended battery version. It's based on Verizon N4 QI2 so it's good to go.
OH MY GLOB!
I still have my Verizon Note 4, can't wait for this rom ???

I just figured you would build your own kernel. Yes, flashpoint is the best in my opinion, as of right now.

I really don't mess with kernels. That's not really my forte. If needed, I would just ask someone to build one. But since there's already one available and it happens to be from Verizon source I will use it and give credit. But I may request a new kernel from the latest source once I get the rom ready.

I think I may have the CQL1 source kernel ready. I've been running it since Tues and was thinking of posting it soon. If you, or anyone else, wants to try it out you can download it here.
The source code is here for those interested.
The changes are the same as the ones for the 910F beta kernel that was posted the other day.

Backported the 3.18 Linux version of Interactive Governor
Add patch for USB fast charge
Add Sound Controls- so far this hasn't negatively impacted anything but it's definitely the change I'm most concerned about and will probably make a separate version without this in the future. Be careful with this. Had my earbuds in and it gets very loud.
LED fade control
Completely reworked the thermal temperature control. So far the temperature has been throttling down pretty good when it goes above the set temp. I've been setting mine on the lowest setting.
Added zswap control
Extended Battery patch is included
On a personal note, I'm very excited to see a port rom that's not built with an international firmware. If there's anything I can help with let me know. My skills are somewhat limited but every now and again I can get lucky.

What I want to do is get the stockish base N7 ROM done then see if there's somebody who wants to take it to the next level and add mods, rom control etc, etc. I know a lot of people like the custom mods, xposed, etc but these days I really don't care for that stuff as long as everything works as it should i'm happy. So if you know of someone who could take on that task once I get the base ROM finished, then that would be great for everyone who wants the custom stuff. And I can take a break. I'll pm some of you once the test build is ready. We'll need to test the basic functions like bluetooth NFC, wifi, etc. It should all work because i've ported these roms before so I know what all i have to do. I'll get the test rom ready as soon as i can as time permits. I'm going over framework getting it debugged and making sure it's a smooth and zippy as i can make it.

I don't use xposed anymore... too much of a hassle to get through some apps that look for it and are diabled from xposed...
Couple brainstorming requests, or something... lol
the people Edge should work properly... I've had so many TW roms that are half done and people Edge is boinked..
Something with note 7 roms and task manager is buggy on note 4...
There is a fingerprint work around for ported roms, if we could get a good, understandable write up to make that work, that would be appreciated.
TW launcher should be themeable... some ports I've tried have that boinked as well.
The brightness on some ports has an issue with not dimming, or high brightness when in sunlight and darkness...
Mostly stock feel and look is quite nice though.

All of the things you mentioned will be working, except fingerprint scanner. That is a lot harder to pull off and will be the very last thing on the to-do list. If it could be made to work other dev's would have figured it out by now without the N4 settings apk swap trick. But i will definitely try my best to get the fingerprint scanner working with my verizon N7 ROM. With Kevin's custom kernel this will be an amazing ROM for the Verizon N4! It's coming along great. It's raining all day today so i'm inside hammering away on the ROM.

Well it's never been accomplished by anyone as far as I know. I started working on the fingerprint scanner fix for my sprint UN7 ROM but I abandoned it due to the complexity and the time it takes to do it. It wasn't worth the amount of time and work. This is why it hasn't already been done. We'll see how it goes but I seriously doubt fingerprint scanner will be working on initial release. it's probably my biggest negative on running the N7 port ROM. I use fingerprint lockscreen even though it's the swipe method.
