I checked and seen that I have a download from Sprint...I wasn't sure if I was going to be this soon because I flashed from unlocked. Guess I'll test it out too before going back to stock unlocked...lol...

So this is just a minor config update to get ready for a major update later...this one improves connectivity and polishes hidden settings...still no calling plus

What do you mean, polishes hidden settings? I'm prob not taking the update.
so I'm guessing if I take this update I won't be able to root later if an exploit is found, right?

Sammy/Sprint speak for we're closing root holes
No I think this is more for connectivity
The connectivity issues are security issues with bluetooth and malware.

Not for me...try to
1. reboot, if not fix
2. boot in recovery and clear cache, if not fix
3. Cache and data, if all else fails, sometimes updates are screwy and we need to
4. Factory reset...I hope you don't have to do that. I only reset after major updates...use Helium to backup your apps first (that's what I use)...sorry S Pen is having issues for you
Before any of that find the spen app or settings app and clear that cache and data or reset just the settings of your phone under the general management section

You can still root with this update...root involves combo factory binary...when new update comes you can flashify the system img and Odin cp and csc...check out the comments in root thread in main dev section

im not updating until 8.0 comes to are phone next year
New update, BQJB, breaks root so if you plan on keeping root or rooting later do not take update, if you do not care about root, update as it plugs security holes...and updates to 2nd version bootloader...geting ready to drop Oreo in Jan or Feb...

arrrgh. laziness.
I am sideloading the original FW ver. 2.19.40.18 (1.15GB) now. So now it is unrooted. Then update to .20 then to .22, then root again. What a waste of time. Should have unrooted first. haha.

Yup. Something like that.
In order to fix mine and bring back alive.
1. Download the latest FW for the ZE551 from the Zenfone 2 support page of Asus India.
2. Install TWRP
3. Format /system and /data via TWRP
4. Flash the latest firmware .20 downloaded above.
Back in business. Bootloader still unlocked. I will try to update to .22 later. Hope everything goes well or else back to square one.
I found the update summary on asus Chinese site. Translating it into English:
1. The United States and Canada software get new security feature Kill switch
2. Improve India's 3G signal data Capability
3. Fix Thailand Provider True SIM1 not able to make call

Can you check which bootloader version it is please. Go into download mode/Odin mode and look for the thing that says either B2 or B3. If it says B2 it's still bootloader 2, if it says B3 it's bootloader 3. Report back ASAP. I would really like to know.

Damn not bootloader 3 that sucks. thanks for checking. On another note im looking at the firmware details but it seems as if the actual firmware didn't update as it still says August. Tested right before replacing my N7 (v1)...
After upgrading to latest API4 "Green Battery" Update...
Confirmed:
- Unable to Odin Sprint "Root" Firmware...
- Unable to downgrade to APGC...
Result...
No root & stuck with API4... (Not bricked)
so... in other words... IF you want root... stay with APGC and simply wait for an API4 ROM... (with APGC bootloader)

The API4 update is available to V1 phones. I took it, knowing I'd be getting a new phone in a couple of days.
As I understand it, they'll make you take it one way or the other.
i can confirm do not update your v2 note 7 to the new firmware. you cannot downgrade and they have blocked the sprint userdebug firmware from even flashing.
if you want to keep root. don't do it.
wht are the chances that the update comes straight from the box..
It does bro....i got mines today and it automatically started down loading...i just asked this question to @jovy23 in another thread
Yep, mine installed right out of the box. what a bunch of a-holes. wifes did the same thing, no root now welp, perhaps its time to return it and buy a different phone. this is retarded.

as long as the phones don't come preinstalled then it's fine.
Well... I just updated to API4 intentionally, to try out the new update on my v1 device. I gotta say it's much more snappier now and lag is completely gone after it fully boots everything. But it's still not worth losing root over. So I'm either gonna get a refund or buy the international version, better yet might just say goodbye to sammy all together.
I don't know why anyone is still surprised about non-Nexus devices being locked down. Sure, a device might get root access, but it's the OEMs job to fix it in future builds because it's an exploit that needs to be fixed.

Same here, it downloads on its own but it can be postponed up to 3 times before it automatically installs the update, so what do I have to disable so the update won't install, or where can i find the update and delete that sob? Some Substratum theme options weren't yet working. A few random force closes. Security Log agent messages from some apps. Lag in the notification shade when playing Spotify (so possibly any media). It's not like Oreo is a big upgrade, so I'm not in a rush to get it.

I hope they fix the theming issues, half of the icons get the stupid white border/frame. even when you turn off icon frames its stays. its the biggest reason why I switched back. This Beta is really stale this year. I have it on my s8 to and I'm not really impressed

New update has dropped. Version P-MR2-RC001-RZR-190914.3123 and brings the phone up to September 5th for security updates.
I have the update pending but I don't want to download just yet to ensure compatibility with Arter97's kernel. If the WiFi is really better then I might jump on regardless because that's my primary issue at this point. Can anyone confirm either the kernel works or the WiFi is noticably better?

I have the update pending but I don't want to download just yet to ensure compatibility with Arter97's kernel. If the WiFi is really better then I might jump on regardless because that's my primary issue at this point. Can anyone confirm either the kernel works or the WiFi is noticably better?

Compatibility hasn't been confirmed yet, but previous discussions with someone who had an AT&T version that was on a July update had issues with arter97's kernel on September's update. The kernel seemed to be incompatible as it failed to boot and also switched the phone back to the old slot afterwards.

This seems to be a differential update, as the boot.img is 1/4 of the normal size. I thought, I could patch it with magisk... [emoji53]

It seems to be the case as the images are rather small. I'm not sure what to do now that I'm on Havoc OS GSI. Is there a possible way to patch stuffs other than system (such as vendor)?
I'm yet to make a backup as the current app I use for backup (Migrate) doesn't appear to work properly on this phone (while it worked on my previous one, Xperia XZ Premium), and that Titanium Backup hasn't been updated to be compatible with new features (such as split apks) so some backups can no longer work properly after restoring.
I also need to know if there were any improvements regarding Bluetooth compatibility. Currently I cannot use my bluetooth headset on GSI (only phone calls work), even with a modded overlay (with values changed to undo Razer's crippling of certain features such as aptX).
EDIT: I guess it's not that easy as the payloads are most likely block-based OTAs. These updates do not tolerate any changes on the partitions unlike file-based OTAs that we used to have. We'll have to wait for full factory images to come out and make a list of what we really need to flash from stock updates...
Any issues with the update etc please lmk everyone!
Enjoy it!

Not exactly an issue, but can you tell us, when razer will push the factory-image for this new update? That would make things mich easier...

Wish I knew!
But I can say to them that people are wanting the factory images if no major issues are present I can't see why it wont be up there but that's me.
I tried updating but it gives me an error everytime.
(Using the Deodoxed version)
Can someone help me with this ?
So trying to game plan here. Logic tells me to flash boot, vendor, and system from factory image of current build. Then let the system update itself. Then flash arter kernel, then go into twrp and flash latest magisk zip to get root.
Is this update still Android 9 or is this taking us to android 10?

And this .zip file you linked.... Can we flash this in TWRP or is this the standard OTA that needs stock recovery?

I'm trying to read between the lines here Brad but I'm not picking up what you're putting down.

This is the standard OTA that needs stock recovery & the update is still Android Pie/9
Also, for anyone that's curious, it doesn't seem to fix any of the speaker phone/call quality issues currently present in Android Pie/9 (but weren't present in Oreo). I can't speak to Wi-fi performance improvements, or other fixes mentioned in the update notice, but I am very thankful that Razer has released this OTA with security patches through September of 2019 ? ?. Thank you Razer!
Wifi
The WiFi is fixed for wifi calling I believe if you put this phone into airplane mode and trying wifi calls it would glitch the wifi out before now seems to work
I think I'll wait to install it until someone else who is more educated in this tests it and makes a guide for it to put stock back on and whatever we need to do to make Arter 97 kernel work with it.
Any fixes to the camera apk?

i reflashed the stock firmware and ran the update to get the latest security update. I also have arter97 r11 kernel installed and magisk and have it rooted with no problems. Google Pay works as well as I was able to get it to pass the CTC scan.
