Rooted LG V20 won't reveal hidden files - LG V20 Questions & Answers

Good evening, XDA. Recently, I spent the night rooting the LG V20 model by T-Mobile H91810d. Successfully followed James Lane 19 minute tutorial on Youtube for it and flashed noverity by the end.
Regardless, it still won't allow my PC to completely view data files, the V20's temperature rose (used to feel a lot cooler), and the speed became significantly slower. Immediately enabled developer mode and disabled automatic updates to keep my current software version.
I just want to see files within offline applications like Planescape Torment Enhanced Edition for modding purposes. Does anybody know how to successfully view app data specifically through PC at this point? The app data is clearly visible through Google Playstore's mobile file explorers.

I forgot to select "show hidden files" on my PC before. Could it be that?

I wish. All files extensions are already set to show for Fallout and Skyrim modifications. Thanks for the response

Showing extensions and viewing hidden files are different options. You probably know that... just putting it out there.

I can't recall the exact situation, but I have had instances where files on my phone were unavailable, or non copyable from the phone. You can try a adb pull of the folder, or using an internal file manager compress, then copy the compressed file. Also make sure you can see hidden files on the computer lol.

I got the view hidden files feature switched on and double checked this now to make sure. The worst part is I can't paste over the app's invisible file structure with a replicated one. It creates a new folder instead like if there's some invisible force shield around it or something lol

MobilMon - File system monitor utility

To the many excellent folks here at xda-developers.com, I'm releasing MobilMon 0.5 for free.
I wrote a simple app that monitors file system access (specifically, file creation, deletion, or modification). This sort of tool can be invaluable when you are trying to figure out what's happening on your system. You can export the findings to a log file.
It's pretty bare bones at this point, but that was somewhat intentional. I wanted to see what folks wanted out of such an app before spending more development time on it.
Check it out, and let me know what you think: http://www.mobilmon.com
wow! thank you! this is pretty much exactly what i was wishing for ever since i started playing around with new apps and such on my phone.
it's a great help for just before a system backup. for example, i have SPB backup set to run every other morning. let's say it runs on Saturday at 5:00am. I install some apps and do some random things from 8:00am to 9:00am. 9:30am, my phone crashes. I reset to 5:00am, and I lost all that stuff i did from 8 to 9. now i know! thanks for this app.
Feature changes
A couple of things I was considering:
1. CSV EXPORT. Would it be better to leave the plain text formatting for easy readability, or format it for CSV export?
2. DIRECTORY. I was originally going to include the ability to change the directory (i.e. something other than just "\") but that would involve some significant work on my part. And, I'm not sure if you'd really want to do that anyway.
3. VIEW FILE READS. As delivered, it monitors file adds, deletes, and changes - not reads. This was done intentionally for performance reasons. Would people want to see all the file reads, even if it bogged the device down?
This is awesome! I haven't seen anything else like it, so I am really happy to see someone from the xda-forums to make this magic!
I think that you should add in the view file reads, but only as an option. Maybe also an option to select which operations you want logged (eg. when I only want to see the files created, and not deleted). Although being able export to CSV would give me the same results, but with some editing.

Many thanks for the app.
It would be nice to have (even as a separate app) something like mamaaich's file monitor: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=247425, with ability to start/stop and good frontend - to capture all file activities in the whole system.
It helps a lot to find frequent, unintended system file reads (in most cases - draining batteries)
monitor lost memory
i wonder if you could add some powerful memory mgmt to check where my pda memory is lost and what is the process, application or service which is causing memory leaks or using too much memory. maybe you could draw a graph or monitor memory usage during time for all processes. when i start my pda i have 48% free ram, after a day i am back to 80% without any visible app running.
Thanks!
Thanks
Thanks for the good feedback; I'll look into making it where you can select the types of events to monitor and then go from there.
Good lead on mamaich's program - I wasn't aware of it. I will take a look. I'm all about working smarter, not harder
Hello,
I stumbled over this (admittedly quite old) thread on the search for a windows-mobile version of something like iTunes FolderWatch or iPad ShutterSnatch.
Would it be possible to extend MobiMon such that an action can be triggered once a new file is found? In my case that action would be to start a picture viewer with the newly created file name as a parameter.
Scenario: Send pictures I take with my camera to my Windows Mobile Phone (HTC HD2) via FTP (MochaFTP) through an Ad-Hoc Network directly from the camera (using Eye-Fi). MobiMon would recognize the new file and fire up the picture viewer. This way, the latest picture taken will be shown on HD2's big display right after the shot was taken.
Of course, if there is a more streight-forward way of doing this (like a picture viewer with integrated FTP-Server ) I'd be more than happy to hear about it!
Regards and a happy new year!
Alex
Yes, it's possible.
In regards to your inquiry, it's programmatically possible, but would require a re-write. This has to do with the way things are instantiated. Whether I could afford the time to do it is a different question
1. What is the target OS?
2. Do you have the means and skills to adjust my code and compile it yourself if I just pointed out the changes needed?
allright, heres my question:
is it possible to add (i.e)tray/taskbar icon showing card r/w activity?
I am thinking not exactly about this specific project, but general idea related to it.

VZW GB OTA update (June 2012) - 2am repeat reboot with Droid sound - stop the noise

Can't post yet in Developers, but wanted to share this, since I read that a number of people are literally being tormented by their HTC Droid Incredible (DINC) phones because of a "feature" in the latest (and likely final) OTA stock update to build 4.08.605.15 710RD. The OTA contains a script to force the phone to reboot and rebuild certain files and databases overnight when activity with the phone is anticipated to be minimized. Problems arose when the rebuilding process repeatedly failed to complete, forcing the phone to reboot repeatedly over a series of nights. I know this happened to most of you back in June and July, but the OTA was pushed to me just recently (I got a used DINC a couple of weeks ago) so this could still be affecting people.
My DINC is rooted so I did not accept the OTA and experience the problem, but I really sympathise with folks being awakened at 02h00 night after night by the harsh "DROID" audio accompanying the standard VZW boot animation as it repeatedly rebooted for nearly 3 hours (or until exasperated owners pulled the battery -- which only made things worse!). Also, I happen to find the audio rather offensive at any time of day. Perhaps others do as well, even without this nasty nightime experience, and would like to eliminate it -- or just possibly substitute something else.
There are plenty of apps and scripts out there to help replace the boot video animation, but I have not come across an automated method of removing or changing the audio. (The audio is not integrated, because the "video" is actually a series of pictures, not unlike the sort of video created by flipping through a page-book animation full of still pictures that create the illusion of movement. It only looks high-tech because of the remarkable speed at which even a smartphone processor can "flip" the pages)
For those of you who do not visit the developers portion of XDA or other similar sites, here is a simple (but admittedly technical) fix.
You will need to be rooted. If you are not already so, this might be a good time to give it a try, since the DINC has surely reached the end of its supported lifespan, and is likely well past any warranty that might be invalidated by performing a root. Search the web and pick your favourite method to follow. Mine is the guide posted by Scotty85 here at XDA:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1600904
Once rooting is done, all you need is a good file manager capable of gaining "superuser permissions" (one of the benefits of rooting includes the installation of a superuser app),. I recommend ES File Manager, but there are ones such as Astro and plenty more to suit any taste. For those who want a file manager designed especially for rooted phones, you can pay a little bit for the Root Explorer app. All you need to do after opening the file manager of your choice is to allow it to receive the superuser permissions. After that, it will be able to see anything in the Android setup. That's why it's called super-user!
When you open the file manager, you will probably find yourself looking at all the files on your SD card (/sdcard/), if like nearly everyone you have one installed. Locate the "up one level" button in the menu or on the screen, and touch it to go to the root of your entire DINC. There you will find in the list or collection of folder icons a directory named /system. Touch it to open it, and then touch the following directories as they appear on-screen:
/customize
/resource
Once you are inside the /resource directory, you will see lots of picture and video files. Amongst them is a single .mp3 audio file with the following name:
VZW_Droid.mp3
That is the one making all the noise at boot time!
Hold your thumb down on top of the file's icon until a list of options pops up.
I suggest you rename it with an extra extension on the right end of the file name. That way, if you change your mind and want to revive it, all you have to do is remove the suffix you are adding now.
For example, this is what I did:
VZW_Droid.mp3.ORIGINAL
That's all there is to it! Close the file manager. Restart your phone if you like, to make sure that the phone now boots silently. I promise you it will!
There is an opportunity here to substitute any MP3 audio file you like (but keep it brief - 30-45 seconds at most) . Simply put it in the same location where you found the Droid audio file, and rename it VZW_Drois.mp3. That way, the boot programming will invoke the audio at the right time.
I have tested the silent approach and using substitute audio, and they both work as expected in my DINC.
Sorry this was not more timely for you folks who ended up locking your DINC in the closet (or worse!) earlier this summer, but you can still give yourself some peace and quiet -- or even a bit of nice music to boot by if you like.
Cheers!

So true! There are ways to block both the download and the notification, but only if your DINC is rooted. If pure stock (not rooted), then you must forever resist the urge to hit the Update button on the notification or in your settings. Not an easy thing for device users to do -- we are well trained like Pavlov's dogs to salivate at the sight of a software upgrade!
In case anyone can't resist the urge, at least there is a way to silence the DROID sound. See the opening post for details...

Oh, and don't forget to use a root-capable file manager (e.g. ES File Explorer) to find and delete that little OTA bomblet hovering in your /cache directory. Alternatively, you can just reboot into your recovery and reformat the /cache.

Been having problems with the new OTA and internet streaming? I figured out a fix!

So after updating to OTA 63, I noticed that PC Streaming outside the network using Shield Proxy was no longer working. I would have the same issues I had before I had upgrade my ISP service to over 5 Mbps which is basically the lowest you can go to achieve streaming outside efficiently.
The main issues I was having was it seemed if I connected to Steam or other game, it would launch, show for a second, and then after a few seconds disappear and say it could not continue due to network interference. I know full well that it worked before the OTA, and so I set out to fix it. I also had a problem where if I disconnected it would immediately tell me it was "busy streaming to another device" even though that device was indeed the one I JUST disconnected from.
I have not completely tested this fix, but if anybody intends to do so before the end of tomorrow and report back that would be fine. If not, I will be testing this as soon as I can tomorrow.
As another added note, the streaming lag, which was non-existent or barely noticeable was much greater even on a local network after the OTA.
This fix assumes the following:
- You have GeForce Experience 1.7.0.1
- You are rooted
- You have CWM installed as recovery
- You have updated to OTA 63 or 64
- Your Shields bootloader is Unlocked (which would be assumed if CWM is recovery)
Anyways, here is the fix:
1. Either download the attached ZIP (and extract), or go here and download and rename the files (Shield PC Streaming, TegraZone Dashboard, and Shield Services) in the following manner in a directory on your desktop:
shield_pc_streaming[1].apk - nvpgcservice.apk
shield_services[1].apk - RothProvider.apk
TegraZone_Dashboard[1].apk
2. Download ES File Explorer and Use Root explorer with "/system" mounted as R/W to delete all the above APKs in "/system/app" and reboot
3. Clear all data in the following apps under the "ALL" category in Settings->Apps:
- Shield Services
- Shield PC Streaming
- Dashboard
3. Copy the renamed APKs you put in the directory mentioned in step 1 to a similar directory on your "Internal storage" of the Shield ("/sdcard")
4. Using ES File Explorer's Root Explorer in the same manner as above, copy those APKs you just put on your internal storage in the "/system/app" directory of your Shield
5. Reboot to recovery (CWM) and wipe both cache, and dalvik-cache just to be safe, and reboot to system
6. On your computer under "Preferences->Streaming" press the "Reset" button
7. Connect to your PC and click the usual "Connect" button, and have fun!
If you have any comments, questions, or concerns, please let me know. If you try this and it doesn't work, please let me know what results you have, as I have been getting drastically better results.
I got the idea for this fix from this thread in which agrabren had mentioned he replaced the new Dashboard with the older one, and it seemed to work fine. Then knowing that (obviously) apps must specify a minimum (not maximum) API level, I decided to try the stock Dashboard, Streaming Services, and PC Streaming App. I am very new to XDA, and don't really post anything, I mostly use the forum to find information, but I figured there hasn't been much in the way of fixes for this, and I got anxious xD
Please understand I am very much a newer XDA member, but thought this would probably help some people.
UPDATE:
So I realized that it was not working remotely, but the local network mode was working much better.

Needing help with my cheap A03s

Couldn't find that one listened anywhere here specifically. I'm pretty sure my phones compromised but I'll probably just get people telling me I'm being paranoid. Just notice a lot of weird stuff going on.
I'll give some examples, but it would be cool if someone else here has an A03s and could give me a full list of the system apps to know for sure if mine has some extra ones that aren't truly factory. Because I've restore it several times and they don't go away.
Like under the apps screen under the basic ones I got apps like Android auto, webview, configapk, customization service, and something called data restore tool, device health services, group sharing, meet, nearby device sharing, quick sharing, quick share, settings..etc. which to my knowledge are pretty normal apps to see on phones right? But I seem unable to control them, if I disable them and go back and check later they mysteriously reenabled again, or after that the permissions lists will be greyed out not being able to do anything. Also there is a app called "permissions controller", as well as ones called "apps", "apps update", "tools", "app recommendations", "settings recommendations"..etc. is that normal? I never noticed that with my old samsung. They are really small file size apps with pretty generic looking icons and they don't let me disable them.
What gets more weird to me though is when I enable the system apps too. I see all kinds of suspicious looking ****.
Like for the android setup, and android system apps there are two of each, and the other two have generic looking icons, also got stuff like configuration restore, audio mirroring, auto hotspot, automation test, bluetooth/bluetooth midi service, call & text on other devices, callbgprovider, camera extensions proxy, carrier login engine, sim tool kit, cell broadcast services, clipboardsaveservice, cmh provider, companion device manager (where I have no idea where my "companion is or how to control it so I must be the one being controlled?", configupdater, csc, dcktimesyncapplication, dynamic system updates, ipservice, enterprise sim pin service, external storage, like 10 different gestural navigation bars, group sharing, iaft, ims service, settings, and logging, input devices, iothiddenmenu, keycustomizationinfobnr, launcher, locale overlay manager, service mode and service mode ril, media and devices, mdmapp, vpndialogs, mmigroup, mmsservice, mobilewips, mtp host, nearby device scanning (2 instances), network diagnostic, nsdswebapp, one handed mode, osulogin, package installer, an app called "people", private share, proxy handler, quick share agent, samsung core services? (is that a real app even? I can disable it but who wants to disable "core" system apps, so touche there if it is a program deployed by a hacker on their app naming skills lol, smart switch agent, 2 instances of software update, system connectivity resources, system uwb/wifi resources, an app called "tasks", tethering, tethering provision and tethering automation, tfstatus/tffunlock always running when I never access them, usbsettings, and theres one called wallpaper services/wallpaper and style that looks really generic which is confusing because I assumed the samsung theme manager just handled all that stuff in one? We also got wearable manager installer running, and sometimes wificalling and wifi direct or work setup will be running when I don't have any of those configured.
Sorry for the huge block of text, I'm sure I missed a bunch i missed because there's some that don't show even when you tap "show system apps", like the skms agent as one example, so got a few general questions for you, so for the file/download system I got a bunch of default apps. There's two different files apps, there's a download manager and download app, and also a storage manager, and ALSO a app called the external storage that always wants to be running but can you explain that if I have no external storage? Is the built in storage space on the a03 called external storage? I even have my drive apps and stuff disabled.
Another things that's suspicious to me is secmediastorage, secvideoengineservice, secsoundpicker, secureelementapplication, media and devices + ext storage. Like why should there be a SECOND video or audio engine running when I'm old school and don't even use cast programs/features or anything like that? In fact it's usually one of the first things I just go ahead and try disable.
I noticed a lot of weird things going on with the display though too, looking really sharp then suddenly almost looking like there's two layers of gui not exactly lined up, like off by a pixels making things look blurrier. Like the one ui home is the default factory launcher right? So why does my phone also have a app called "launcher", plus another hidden launcher or something running in the background? I can't remember the name of it offhand, something GUI..
And I understand the concept of android have a permission controller, and "core apps" but are there actually apps under the system apps named that lol? "permission controller", "samsung core apps" one called "device services"...
also is service mode suppose to be running in the background? I googled into it and know it's a genuine service, but I really don't understand why a lot of these apps are stopping and running or renabling themselves.. It's like I have zero control over my own phone and if I'm just paranoid and they are meant to be just seems like a waste of complete waste of ram/data to me.
****, I was just sitting here thinking for like a few minutes about to post and almost forgot the most suspicious ones I've noticed in last few days. all the "com." overlay apps. I guess I really saw the word "overlay" as something you should be suspicious about until the vpn I recently bought had a feature that is suppose to block web browser based overlays. Then I noticed that MOST of my com. apps are all overlay apps! Lol, ranging from google/samsung to mediatek.
I won't post all of them because there's probably 20 at least but here's a few.
com.mediatek.frameworkresoverlay
com.mediatek.settingsproviderresoverlay
com.mediatek.systemuiresoverlay
com.samsung.android.networkstaack.tethering.overlay
com.samsung.android.smartswitchassistant
com.samsung.android.wifi.p2paware.resources
com.sec.android.app.camerasaver and a camera.app.cameraapp one (camera always running in background even if background and battery saver with restricted settings enabled)
com.google.android.ondevicepersonalization.services (I never used any personalization service or see a personalization app for that matter)
com.google.android.networkstack.tethering.overlay
and there's a bunch of com.google.android.overlay.gmsconfig ones /common geotz/ gsa/ photos/
com.google.android.overlay.modules.captiveportallogin.forframework
plus a overlay broadcastreceiver, ext.services, documentsui, permissioncontroller, and sdksandbox one.. tetheringresoverlay, wcmurlsnetworkstackoverlay, locale overlay manager..etc.
Also I get my service through straight talk which I think uses verizon and I noticed when I go to connections/mobile networks and network operators and uncheck the box "select automatically" that for some reason it only wants to connect to a network operator called "Home". I just thought that was kind of a weird and generic name for a network operator. I tried to use a android hidden settings app to change that because it was blocked out and thought I messed up my phone because I no longer had data and couldn't access the menu through the app anymore, but luckily a reformat fixed it but I'm still dealing with all this crap haha.
Can someone tell me I'm not crazy and there's definitely someone that is accessing and controlling my phone without my permission and what would be the best way to go about dealing with this?
Thanks.

Now on to your question...
It is my opinion that the problem may not be with what you are observing, but with your assumptions. In the duplicate thread, you assume two possibilities:
You're being hacked
Your paranoia is justified
Have you thought there may be a third or even fourth option? Such as, maybe you don't understand that much about Android, you don't recognize what you see, you're assuming it's malicious, which combined with your own confirmation bias, has led you to the conclusion that foul play is afoot?
Nothing you have described sounds in any way abnormal. You have a Samsung device running OneUI (Samsung's framework overlaid on top of Android) that is powered by a Mediatek chipset. Everything you describe sounds completely normal to me, with over 10 years of experience in Android, most of that with Samsung devices.
My conclusion, to be frank: You are not being hacked, and your paranoia is unfounded.
OP your post gave me a headache trying to read it.
So...
Have it reflash to the stock firmware if you really think it's behaving erratically and a factory reset doesn't work. Change Google password and all others.
Then be careful what you install.
Don't put in foreign thumb drives or let others use it.

Unable to install Third Party watch faces in Noisefit Halo (or any other variant)

So I am need of help in order to get some custom/ Third Party watch faces for this spare watch of mine.
Smartwatch: Noisefit Halo
First of all I'm unable to determine the OS used in this smartwatch. I wanted to download some third party watch faces for my watch however unable to do so bcz of the unknown OS, also this Watch doesn't seems to have the ability to install any sort of "apps" as well. Otherwise would have used Facer etc. Like in my galaxy watch 4.
Any help is appreciated.
I tried to find specs but had fail. 466x466 display only. very looks like usual chinese watch but without waterproof.
by price and resolution I'll suppose what it's a rtl8763 series chip. so more likely what it have a some sort of modification of rtos. it means what it more likely have a custom watch face format. share few original watch faces of this watch and m.b. I can tell you a bit more.
Thank you for the quick reply.
Yes, this is a IP68, AMOLED watch.
By original do I share the faces from Watch or the companion app that it works with ?
I have attached the screenshot of the watch faces. I really do not know if there is another way of sharing it as a file.
Once again, thanks a lot helping.

not sure what you able to extract watch faces from the watch. I need exactly watch face file from the companion app. mostly it's a "*.bin" files, usually in app folder.
My apologies. It seems the device needs to be rooted in order to see the files
I'll share the link of the app itself for your reference. Hope that helps somehow

no, root is not required. and no, I can't use this app because I have no appropriate watch to connect. and without watch connecting I can't download any watch face.
I'd install it and seems files must store at "android\data\myapps\com.noisefit\files\" perhaps it'll be have a folder "downloads" inside. watch faces files will apper in this folder only after installing/downloading via app.
Hi, so after fiddling around for a while a found the folders but they are of no use.
Two of them contain logs. One for watch and the other for my current phone.
Others are just empty. Enabled the hidden files as well.
Then there's this zip files which cannot be shared no matter what and it cannot be opened as well.
I've attached the ss so you may see and guide me further.
did you already install any wf via app? if no, install anyone and check ".\com.noisefit\files\" folder.
also share that "watchface.zip" file. not sure what it's useful, but file name at least promising.

just zip it once more. or copy to regular "download" folder before.
Yes. Earlier there were no such folders but when i installed the watch face and immediately wen to the com.noisefit folder the zip file and other folders appeared somehow.
As for the zip file I tried it all but it's not opening and gives me an error. No matter what app I use.
I'll try to copy to it to a different location and then attach it to see if that allows me to atleast share the file.
Thanks for the quick response mate.
sorry, did not found in "zip" any useful info. and yes, it's not a zip, and data inside this file not looks like a graphics.
what about files in ".\com.noisefit\files\" folder?
Everything else is empty sir, there's literally nothing and I've used several different file managers. Explored using every possible method
then sorry. in this case I know only the last way, but seems it'll be over hard for you:
- sniff the app to intercept watch face files (not so hard)
- analyze the app how it upload watch face file to the watch and write your own upploader (a way harder, even if you'll decide just to modify blestarter)
you may also try to find some sort of another compatible app (orunning, chronos, perhaps some gadget bridge based app...), but chances is too low.
Alright. It seems there are no locally downloaded wf available. They are all cloud based and do not download to the Device before getting synced with the watch itself. Log file said the same.
Thanks for all your help. I'll keep on fiddling around until I find it. M.b then i can share those files with you
you are welcome and good luck in your investigations.
n.b. if you just want to intercept app requests, use a some ssl capture app. you'll catch something like this: http://ft-cn.hetangsmart.com/public...032305191400427040BBCF&lcd=24&toolVersion=1.5 but for your app with watch faces list for your watch.
