how to boost download speed on redmi 3s stock? - Xiaomi Redmi 3s Questions & Answers

I just flashed back to stock "miui 9" for redmi 3s and remembered why i left in the first place, one major issue is that is that the download speeds are horrible! its caped at like 350kbs-1mbps and with bluetooth on its discussing , half that. its seems like a software cap somewhere but i wouldn't know why they would do that. when im on a custom tom like CM based ones teh speed is great, about 50mbs and with bluetooth it only drops a little (for both android 6 &7) why is stock so bad? is any why i can remove the cap or accelerate it?

dell streak 5 wifi range

I had nexus one which had a pretty good wifi range.. I could access my home network router from pretty far away.. now i am using Dell streak 5 within same home network and I have found that it's wifi range is a lot less than nexus one... why does it happen? any idea? Can we boost wifi range of dell streak 5?
Streak 5 has a wide wifi range especially with MIUI ROMs.
Flash a MIUI ROM and try again, you will see that it has a perfect wifi range.
really let me check it with MIUI .23 version
Please post back if you see a difference using MIUI rom, i'm also interested
i flashed with MIUI .20 version ROM, i am sorry i did not find any difference
To save younall some time.... there's pretty much nothing can be done about the Streaks short wifi range

I have tested stock roms and the other custom roms including cm7; all of the roms have the same wifi range at the same place; they can't find the wifi signal or they find weak signal but at the same place especially MIUI 2.2.17 and 2.3.16 find double strength wifi signal.

yeah it's your exp.
i want to know what exactly inside MIUI 2.2.17 and 2.3.16 that made the signal stronger? any mod or script maybe?
so there's a chance for me to use some tweak in mine

Maybe...But i didn't examine this.
Put a bigger aerial on your router, or use a extender

[Q] Wifi Link Speed stuck at 24mps

It doesn't matter which network I try, 2.4 or 5, how far I am from router, how strong the signal is. Link speed is permanently stuck at 24mbps. I have no idea if this problem started after flashing Lollipop (I'm on CM12 nightly) or not, but I tried going back to JB and still the same. Nexus 7 on Lollipop (CleanRom 5.0) gets much faster link speed from same location.
TIA/
Same here. Wifi is fubar under 5.0.x on my N10. It rocks like hell on my Oneplus One, but if 5.1 doesn't solve all that wifi issues I am outta here and get back to 4.4.4
Haven't found any solution for the wifi issues yet. Sometimes speed is okay, ten minutes later its a mess.... can't reproduce...
/edit: should say that neither CM nor stock lollipop solve the wifi issues for me. I'm sure this is a kernel issue. But as there are no kernels other than stock and cm I am out of alternatives.
I use my n10 to watch videos in bed so I had to go back to KK. Link speed shot right up to 80-100mbps. 1080p MKV streams buttery smooth with ES File Explorer+MXPlayer (or Plex) now.
My Wi-Fi speed is crap too, and lately the YouTube app gets out of sync where it freezes for a second and then when it continues the sound is ahead of the video. I'm on Lollipopalooza's Rom. I'm going to flash something else and see if it's affecting all 5.0 Roms.

My thoughts on my new OnePlus X

Man this phone is beautiful. Size and build quality are A+ really good in the hands. Sound is surprisingly good for a single speaker. I also like the Oxygen OS as well. Call quality is good too. There are a few things though that would make this phone even better, and I bet if they had these features the phone would have sold 50% more than it did. They are:
1. LTE on all bands including 12 and 17
2. Dual WIFI 5 G
3. More Timely updates
4. Better Camera
They could make a Oneplus X SE version and have those features and charge say $279 Overall pleased with it.
There had to be few compromises. Yes the camera could have been better. But there is a version by sultanxda that enhances the camera. It is good.
Yet to buy this phone. Cannot wait*!
It is a very good phone but it is even more amazing once rooted and a custom rom flashed on it which you may or may not want to do yet. I think it may also be possible to unlock the locked LTE bands once rooted but am not sure.
I tried to put a custom ROM on it. Must have tried 8 or 9 of them. They would install fine but I would get no cellular data, I had no signal from T-Mobile. Finally just gave up and went back to stock and everything worked.

That's interesting..I'm still thinking of flashing a custom rom... For now I use stock oxygenos with bluspark kernel, rooted. I still try to add all funktions that are missing for me via xposed and apps but for one it's quite some work to do and I'm also concerned of additional battery drain. My cell phone carrier is T Mobile Austria.
I'm sure it was just me, user error some how I must have missed a step or something
Wow this is strange. I just went back to try and flash Exodux Rom and this time it worked. I have data and everything. I have no idea what I did different this time to get it to work.

Not to mention that you can do even more with the camera from Color OS
This is the best $250 you could spend on a device really. Its perfect. No performance drawbacks or anything like that. The only things I could ask for if they made a X^2 is a bigger battery and a better camera sensor... Maybe an 805 or 652 as well... and maybe 3.18 kernel sources... but hey, I'm happy.
Regarding 5ghz WiFi... That would be awesome and actually, with an internal mod, should be possible. But even with 2.4ghz I'm able to go a far distance away from home and still have a decent connection that I wouldn't have on any other device

Agree. I got the ceramic version, paid $300 (onyx version would have cost the same for my country) for 9 days now and I'm pleasantly surprised. 5ghz wifi and a bigger battery are the only 2 things missing for me.
A cm based rom, not overly bloated makes it perfect. OxygenOs itself is not perfect but after rooting, installing bluspark kernel, removing some google apps and using xposed modules it's great.
If one is used to have a custom rom flashed, I can only recommend the xposed module gravitybox..lets you greatly customize your rom.
Thinking of upgrading to this from my 2014 Moto G that I got before Chirstmas as an emergency purchase. It's lasting me fine and running a highly optimized stock ROM very well. But I really want something that has more under the hood. Especially in the RAM category. I'm not a super heavy user in terms of how many apps I run. (I try to keep whats running in the background to an absolute minimum) So having the 'latest and greatest' specs isn't really a concern for me.
My only concern is the lack of the popular LTE bands being that I live in the states. I've been living on HSPA+ for the past 4 months and really haven't had much to complain about. Anyone care to share how well it does on 3g and the like?

Mi A2 slower than a Redmi Note 5?

Hey guys,
how is it possible that a SD 636 is faster than a 660 with Android One?
In this article you have different videos that show different Speed Test, and in the last ones, the Note 5 beats the Mi A2:
https://newesc.com/test-velocidad-xiaomi-a2-vs-xiaomi-redmi-note-5/
he-s comparing apples and pears.
whyred has been out for months now, plenty of time for miui for it to get optimizations and improvements (it's also probably the main redmi device that they work on miui10, complete with the new ai engine loading algorithms that learn your usage patters to speed up your phone).
and even without that, any sort of miui vs android one comparisons are irrelevant if you ask me... nobody ever said miui is slow, some just prefer a clean android instead.

Every company should launch the best optimized product they can, because the first month is the most important in sells. If you launch a new product that cost more but is not faster than an older one, you are gonna lose customers. Easy.
Beside, the argument i hear a lot of: "With time is gonna be faster", is complete nonsense for new customers. I don't want warranties on the future, if I'm buying something NOW, I want it to be the best NOW.
"nobody ever said miui is slow" that's true, but you can see a lot of youtubers saying that they prefer Android one because is "faster" and "more optimized"

i don't think i agree with you that the first month is the most important for sales. and we need to work a bit on the definition of faster. starting apps isn't necessarily the benchmark to use. try running miui for a few weeks, switch to a custom/stable aosp of sorts for another 2 weeks and come back to miui. then decide if a phone is slower or faster on android one versus miui. some people like miui others like android. it's always a matter of preference. i personally couldn't use miui any more after the first time i switched os versions like this. it just felt wrong.
L.E. the storage speed difference could also be down to encryption being on or off on the 2 terminals. or due to the A/B system of the mi a2. there could be services running on the jasmine that the whyred is not running at the moment. it can be that miui is really better optimized to start apps. if your definition of faster is that then get yourself a whyred. it's your choice to make! always remember that!
L.E.2 "I want it to be the best NOW." you know these are all budget-y phones we're talking about, right?

but shouldn't it be even possible to use a whyred GSI on jasmine too? it's a treble phone.

well miui is device dependent (no plans to make a gsi style image that runs on any treble phone. if xiaomi decided to make one it would be pretty awesome though!) so you can;t run the whyred miui on jasmine. you could maybe port the one from wayne (mi 6x) without too many issues, in fact i think i saw a thread on en.miui.com.
gsi images might work on both yes since they're both shipping with 8.1 (but there's not really needed on jasmine, it's already "clean" android).
but yes, if you want a fair comparison, a gsi running on both might be a better test.

I wish someone would have told Microsoft that about 25 yrs ago... every new version of the OS (that they rushed to market) had 1,000s of bugs that were fixed later on. I don't think mfg's really care about what you want "NOW".

indeed, sorry, what I mean is the wayne / mi 6x image, same device with miui
There is bunch of tests on youtube comparing note 5 pro and mi A2, and you can see that in many A2 is clean winner.
So, I believe that this tests depends heavily on tester and apps which they choose to use in the tests.

Not sure what all the fuss is here. This is a budget phone which is plenty fast and has great features for the price. If you want speed and fastest phone you will have to pay at least twice as much. I am coming from an SD835 phone and I hardly noticeable the difference at all.
As the old saying goes, you get what you pay for.
Ah these are crap test and YouTubers, better trust C4etech, Techdroider, revatlas

It is possible to tweak android to load faster apps, you can find on youtube test between S9+ and P20pro.
S9+ has about 240000 antutu score, while P20pro has about 200000.
P20pro beats S9+ in all standard apps and games, because android learned what apps user use the most, and cache them somehow, leaving S9+ in the dust, in real time usage.
It dosen't mean that it is really faster, but it is tweaked with smarter OS.
In "our" case, note 5 pro vs mi a2, of course, it is nonsense, mi a2 is faster, but miui also can be tweaked.
Also, custom roms are usually also tweaked and are faster then stock ones.

from my experience with the Redmi 4X MIUI is anyway pretty fast compared to Android One on my Mi A1, but rather lousy in regard of doing great shots.
there's other vantages of AOSP-based ROMs like RR, lineage, etc. Now my choice was the Mi A2 only due to the unlock process, improved cam, QC4.0 and CPU.
camera and microphone are definitely an improvement:

Yes cause mi 6x is the same specs but its faster than a2 hope xiaomi fix this

What is the most stable ROM for an N910V where everything works, that is not da stock

Tired of trying to use cutting edge roms where everything is unstable or just plain does not work. If it's not a problem with my bluetooth audio, my Tic watch stops working, or the whoe lthing just up and freezes and reboots. All types of wild stuff.
What ROM would be recommended where everything works that is stable and is not the stock ROM? Resurrection?? Or Anything else??

I'm assuming by "not stock rom" you mean not a modified stock rom either, correct? If that's the case, I've been recently using both LOS 16 and RR v7 (pie). Both of those work really well with minimal issues depending what you use most. I also think star53's Norma v26 worked well for the 910v.
There are issues that come up from time to time with all of the non stock roms, but I think those three are as close to 100% as it might get.
If you're okay with a modified stock rom then I've only used one where all the features work...

Ive been using LOS up to now. Nothing against that ROM or those guys. And they are doing a wonderful job. I just can't use it as a daily driver.. too many bugs and things that either don't work or stop working after a awhile.
I loaded up RR last night. With exception of some sluggishness and a SystemUI crash this morning, it's been running fairly decent with my Tic WATCH, Cars ODB2 adapter and Bluetooth audio working fairly well.
However once I begin using Google Music to stream and Maps to navigate at the same time, it becomes deathly slow. I think I'm coming to the realization that I have squeezed as much life as I can out of this old gal. Maybe it's time to hand it down to my son who like playing video games on his phones and get myself an S8+. The prices are starting to plummet since the announcement and distribution of the S10 and Plus.
I need a snappy phone and Pixel 2XLs are still up in the clouds somewhere at $450-500 USD. ANy advise on the most snappy yet underrated(read inexpensive) phones out there?
