I bought the phone reasonably new off Craigslist as a travel/GPS phone in the summer of 2010 and it worked OK for six months or so. Then I decided it would be a good idea to re-flash it and ended up bricking it to a point where it would buzz when turning off and then turn off immediately. Fortunately, an e-mail to HTC later, they asked me to send it to their repair center in Texas and fixed it the same day they received it and sent it back. Not a penny charged to me and I didn't even think the phone was in warranty. I basically got back my old phone flashed back to default and it worked beautifully.
About nine months ago I went abroad to the Netherlands and the phone was working good as new with a Vodafone SIM card. It worked until December 2011 when I returned to the States, turned it off and put it away in a drawer. Before anyone asks - never dropped it, not a drop of water has ever touched it, it was working just fine. Six months later (otherwise known as a month ago), I traveled again, but now, having had my iPhone4 unlocked, barely had the need for the HTC. However, I am about to make a trip to a country where I will need GPS and won't have an iPhone data plan, so I figured I'd turn on the Leo and check that it was still functioning.
It wasn't. It wouldn't even register a yellow light when charging. Soft reset impossible, so was hard reset. My friend, whom I got the idea to get the HD2 from in the first place, had a couple of spare batteries and a plug-in charger. I tried both replacements (charged in the wall unit) - no dice. I called HTC and they called it an end-of-life product and refused to even have me send it in to get checked, so I took it to a repair shop and was told I would likely need a replacement motherboard. Checking eBay there isn't one damned thing called an HTC HD2 motherboard. So what do I do? What can be the problem and how can I replace the board? Is there a site that deals in OEM HTC parts or is there a part model I should be looking for? Or would I even be able to fix it myself without a soldering iron? I guess my other solution would be to sell it as is for the remaining parts, but it's a great GPS if nothing else, so I don't want to give up on it quite yet...

Insisting to look up on ebay will get you eventually to success, but a good working MB may be purchased up to 70-80USD.
Replacing it needs no soldering, but I wouldn't recommend to DIY if you're doing this first time in your life!
But if you feel confident(and a bit lucky), watching some good videos about, may help you fulfill this job.
Good luck!

Thanks. Looks like I might just be better off selling it for parts.

If so, I'm interested in!
PM me, we could work it out...
Do you happen to have insurance on the phone? If you have a plan through someone like tmobile and you have insurance you could always file through them. You could also look for one on ebay that has a cracked screen or something like the charger port when up. That way you could get the motherboard you need. Just make sure the phone is in good condition otherwise. I know someone in the past had a problem and if i remember correctly they couldn't find it. I think but dont quote me that this was the motherboard..when it has the pcb board (printed circuit board) attached. Found here. This was years ago so please consult someone else before buying. Amazon also has a lot of parts you can order so looking there might be useful.
So I have had a few issues with the Galaxy S5 in a little over a month. The first being, over time the charging port started feeling loose. You would have to press it a lot more firmly to get seated/sealed. Then one day I happened to look down at it and noticed it was gone. The hinge is still there it just appears the cover came off. I also have an issue with the camera. It's showing a line of purple/bluish color on all of the pictures and videos. You can also see them on the view finder.
I took my phone to the authorized dealer where I purchased it from. They called the Verizon tech support. They wanted to troubleshoot the issue before moving forward. I let them know I am a technical savvy person and did most of what anyone else could do over the phone. Obviously the asked me to do things I've already tried (to fix the camera). Nothing worked. However... they said that in order for them (the guy on the phone) to take the phone back and replace it that they would need to have the little port cover that obviously fell off somewhere with the phone when it was shipped otherwise it would be considered damage and I will have to make a claim with my insurance.
That did not make sense to me at all, nor am I going to pay 100$ for a replacement on something that was not actually damaged. Plus the camera is still messed up.
Does this sound right? I tried going to a corporate store but they said they can't do anything about it since I didn't buy it from there. The phone is on the EDGE program. I kind of didn't understand that since I am leasing the phone directly from Verizon, why it should matter where I should take it.
I attached an image of the camera issue. Has anyone else seen this problem yet?

You can order a new 'cover' for the charging port for cheap iirc.. unless you don't want to try faking a new piece with an old problem.
Also, have not personally noticed the colored lines you speak of in photos.
Hey everyone! just wanted to share my experience so far.
I got an HTC One m7 last year, and I love almost everything about it, except it began to develop the pink camera tint. For those who don't know, many m7's have a manufacturing/design defect that causes the camera to slowly degrade, and as a result, all low light pics come out with a pink or purple haze across the image.
I took my phone over to the bell store, where I signed a couple documents, and the rep sent the phone over to the repair center. The phone was in "Like-New" condition, and still in warranty.
I waited about a week, and today I got an email telling me that the repair facility was refusing to repair the phone citing physical damage (there was none, maybe a micro scratch!), and to get it back they would charge a $35 diagnostic fee. I don't even really care about the fee (although there shouldn't be one) I just want my phone fixed.
I called Bell and they escalated the issue and told me someone from the repair center would call me in 24-72 hours. They wouldn't give me a number to call, so now I have no choice but to play the waiting game...

Well u are not in USA. I had couple of devices with this deffect fixed under warranty even when warranty was expired. Call the consumer support number in your country and talk to them and tell them u have done your homework and this is a well known deffect and it should be taken care by them. Or wait maybe they will call.I never deal with carriers in this situation s call directly the manufacturer. Good luck.
Well, its been a while now, and it looks like I may have to send the phone to HTC since Bell are a bunch of ********. I eventually got a call, but it wasn't from the repair center, it was from USA's tech support, and the gentleman told me he had no idea what was going on, and that he couldn't help me at all, nor could he offer any type of recourse, or contact information for someone that may be able to help. I am very displeased as you can probably see. Anyway, I wrote HTC a letter complaining about their service. Here's what I wrote to them for your amusment:
Hello,
I recently sent my phone in to repair it's camera that wasn't working correctly. I was denied the repair, citing physical damage (I have documentation from the Bell store stating otherwise) and the device has now been marked down to be shipped back without the repair, when I did not give my consent, nor talk to anyone who had any bit of control over the repair process. I am very displeased at the service that has been given to me, as well I do not appreciate being lied to, or cheated out of the repair I am entitled to.(the phone's camera issue is a widely documented factory defect, just search Google or call HTC about the m7 pink camera issue). As well, I am appalled at how Bell has tried its hardest to evade my asking for help, instead pointing fingers at other divisions of the company and telling me to go talk to them. And finally, I would have liked to call the repair center, or visit the facility directly as I understand it is fairly close to me, but the information I have been seeking was kept secret from me. If you listen to the recording of the support call I made last week, you will hear the agent telling me that the company actively tries to withold this information.
I WANT MY PHONE REPAIRED. Not returned defective. If my phone is returned defective, you can be sure I will not renew my contract with Bell, ever.
Brandon Benyacar
I can only hope they read this letter sooner than later. Anyway, that's my repair experience so far. Lesson learned: Don't by a phone right away, let a few months go by and see if any major problems turn up. also, note to self: Buy extended warranty.
I may post one more time if anything else worth sharing happens. Have a good day everyone!
I'll also post my experience with the purple tint problem. Got my phone in may/june 2013 and got the purple tint somewhere around september 2013. Over time, it got worse in dark settings, but as the phone was still ok during daylight, never bothered too much. This year I finally took the effort to get it fixed. I contacted HTC europe (as I live in the Netherlands) about the problem and they said to just make an appointment; if I had caused the problem, I had to pay 35 euros research costs and if I agreed, an additional fee for the repairs.
As I rooted the phone like a month after I got it (unlocked through HTC dev website), I was kinda 'scared' they would say that would be the cause, but I followed all wonderful steps here to get it S-OFF and in locked/untampered state again and send it off. Made the appointment (UPS came to pick it up) and after a few days I got the email it was ready and repaired. Today (after about 10 days) they delivered the phone back. No charge at all.
So my experience with HTC customer support is fairly positive at the moment. Purple tint is indeed gone. Sadly, my original phone was just fixed and not swapped for an M8, but still no complaints about their service.

Glad to hear everything worked out for you. I contacted HTC a few days back and explained what happened and they said they would be happy to repair my phone at no cost, and agreed with me about Bell's repair process being all sleazy. I just need to wait until my phone gets shipped back from Bell's repair center first.
I think I read somewhere that sometimes HTC will put in a higher quality camera module. do you notice the picture being better than the original? (before the purple tint started)
I really don't want my phone to be swapped for an m8, I like the m7 better. slightly smaller, capacitive buttons, and a more symmetrical speaker grille. Not to mention its super easy to s-off. though I might not mind if they give me an M9! HAHA
well, its been about a month, and after much trouble, I finally got my phone fixed. See, When I got my phone back from Bell, HTC told me to ship my phone to a company called Futuretel, located about 15 minutes from where I live. I shipped it, and a few days later, received an email claiming that the repair would not be covered under warranty, and would cost me $226. they also have a policy that requires them to replace both the camera, and the motherboard at the same time, hence the price.
Their first claim was that my H-Boot date on the bootloader screen tells them that my phone had been tampered with. I did install custom firmware, but I flashed it back to stock, with the date showing January 29 2014, before I even bought the phone(not that they would know that) so I called them out on their claim. Then, they disregarded that claim, and now stated that since was that since my phone was S-Off, I was not entitled to a repair. Everything else on the phone was stock, bootloader locked, tampered flag removed and status showing locked.
talking directly to Futuretel was futile, so I called HTC and explained how refusing a defective hardware warranty because of S-Off is like ford refusing to replace your faulty transmission because you changed your headlights. The two are completely unrelated (unless your mechanic REALLY sucks I supposed). They agreed, but still wouldn't fix my phone.
My father, who isn't really a lawyer, but knows quite a lot for an average guy, wrote up a legal document for me to sue HTC. This isn't his first lawsuit, so he knew exactly how to write it up properly and file it into small claims court. I sent a copy over to HTC, and the next day, they offered to pay for the repair. It probably just wasn't worth it for them to fight it, so they gave in.
I also let HTC know of all the horrible reviews and complaints of this repair facility, with many of the stories online ending in either ridiculous repair costs, refusal of repairs for stupid reasons, or devices being returned with additional damage. HTC said they would do an investigation on this facility. that being said, Futurtel repaired my phone in 2 days time, and returned it in the same condition it left (actually, slightly better condition, my power button was losing its black paint, and they replaced it. small, but good attention to detail).
I powered up the phone to 5.0.2, and firmware version 7.17.666.7 which I believe is the newest version (a google search produced no results). They also replaced my mainboard, so everything was stock, and I had a new IMEI. tested out the camera, and its a night and day difference. Now my pics look the way they were meant to look. Once again, I am a happy customer.
I hope my experience inspires others to fight back, know your rights, and don't take no for an answer. I would love to hear other people's success and failure stories, especially ones pertaining to this pink camera issue.
Now onto installing insertcoin's sense 5.5 ROM. I just like it better than sense 6!
My related experience recently, I acquired almost new imported HTC One from local dealer, and there was Pink Tint, I took it to HTC Service Center in my locality, I had already did OTA updates and the phone is in Lollipop, the support person said, it will take 5500 INR (88 USD) which I agreed, then they said it is imported phone, the camera module might not be compatible they don't have software to calibrate the camera since the phone is in Lollipop (?!), and it is the risk they are not willing to take! they don't even try to repair and say it did not work. Their excuse was once they attempt to install new camera, and it doesn't work the Camera will be completely shut off even day light photos will not be possible. Looks like I had to live with purpley photos!

Don't worry, you can always use flash to avoid pinkish photos in the night. I didn't even bother to get mine repaired for free.

the flash helps(thank god its even there), but still, video in low light is practically unusable.
It's not acceptable that HTC can get get away with this(though I found it had more to do with the repair facilities), and you should fight it if you've got the time, especially now that they have introduced that "oops protection" this for the M9. If they can replace an M9 at no charge for dropping your phone onto concrete, then they should at least be able to fix their own factory defect. Even if its out-of-warranty. Its what I believe is fair.
by the way, after they fix, not only are the pictures not pink, but they're less grainy now, and they're not washed out.
I too had this problem since last 1.5 years.. somewhere read online that you can get rid of it by placing your cellphone in freezer for sometime and it will get rid of the pink/purple issue of camera. So I did it.
WHat to do-
1.) I placed my cellphone HTC One(M7) in my freezer nicely wrapped in a small towel
2.) changed my refrigerator setting to the coolest...
3.) kept it in there for almost 20 minutes
4.) Took it out.... and no more Pinkish pics.......
Not sure if its permanent solution as I have tried it today only.... but as of now I am happy to see my camera work as good as new.... NO FAULTS WHATSOEVER.
It worked for me.. hopefully it can work for someone else as well.. please try at your own risk and make sure to cover your cellphone properly before trying this option.

Do you really think our phones are designed to withstand below zero temperatures? This is a terrible idea which is most likely only a temporary fix (if your phone survives it).
While not a true "fix" I just edit the effected pictures and add an effect to them. 2 of the effects work well to remove the purple haze in pictures (depending on the picture each effect works better than the other). Not perfect, I understand, but they come out looking quite good.
Hi Folks,
So if you're like me and bought your Storm shortly after they came out you did everything you're supposed to. You registered your phone on the website, purchased the warranty extension that took it from 2 to 3 years and took out the screen protection as well.
Fast forward to Thursday night. Phone charging cable gets snagged in a cupboard door and the phone jumps onto the floor. Broken screen and the touchscreen doesn't work.
You go to the Wileyfox website and try to log in but it doesn't recognise your details. Strange, I've still got the same email so don't know why it doesn't work. I then register for a new account with the same details, so it is apparent that my details have been deleted from their database. I then go to re-register the phone but there is no option for the Storm.
So I email them and ask how to get this repaired under the warranty that I took out, including all the details of the phone and my details so if they still have an internal database they can look it up.
First reply:
Please be advised that the Storm has been discontinued.
You cannot register it on our website, but we confirm the 24 months of European Warranty.
Click to collapse
Second reply asked for details to create a repair request and said to include proof of the screen warranty. I had to reply saying the proof was in their database which looks to have been deleted. I do have a credit card bill which shows the purchase though but obviously cannot send that to a repair centre.
I then got:
Thank you for your reply.
Please be advised that the Storm has been discontinued, it is not possible to register it on our website so the screen repair,
It is not under warranty, but it will cost 60 / 90 pounds.
Furthermore please be advised that the 3 years warranty it is provided for Kazam devices, and yours is Wileyfox.
Please also be advised that our repair time takes 2 / 3 weeks since we receive the device.
However some delay might occur because we cannot directly control every phase of the repair process.

So, not only is the device discontinued but they are denying that I could have ever purchased the 3 year warranty (never heard of Kazam so don't know what that has to do with it, they sold me it so they can honour it). They are also saying that it won't be possible to extend the screen warranty, which is annoying as that is one of the reasons I picked this phone.
So if you think you've warranty/screen protection make sure you've got proof or be prepared for a fight with support people who seem to have the company line of fob you off. If you could spare some time, please check your details and see if you've been deleted as well. If you don't want to post publicly please get in touch directly. I want to make sure I'm not the only one as I'm already getting in touch with some tech news places in the hope that they will show some interest and call Wileyfox on their shenanigans.
**** WILEYFOX !!! Actually Wileyfox is a rebranded KAZAM -_-. I bought the storm about a year ago. Firstly it was heating up too much, the battery life was not so great. Apparently the screen glass broke and touch was not responding. even i couldn boot into fastboot or recovery to copy over my data to PC. I contacted Wileyfox to repair my storm. They said that screen repair is not possible withouth replacing motherboard. WTF?!? Never heard of this bull****. Can't send screenshots because mine wileyfox account got deleted too....
Lastly i tried to recover my data on my own and i ****ed up the partition table......
I bought a Nexus 5 and I'm happy as hell now.....
Thank you for confirming I'm not the only one. I too had the poor battery life and over heating. That was so bad that trying to use GPS navigation required the charger to be plugged in whilst driving. Even then it slowly lost power until it got so hot it stopped charging, presumably via a thermal cut out.
I tried to use out geo caching a couple of times & the compass was useless.
I've now bought an Huawei P9 Lite. Got it off chitter chatter's eBay page with a payg ee SIM that I've ditched. When it is out of warranty I will make it dual SIM and unlock it from ee.
Wilcox is being repaired by insurance with my bank account rather than Wileyfox themselves who refused to tell me what the £60/90 repairs constituted or rule out that or might cost more
The screens on the storm seems to be very brittle. Mine broke a few times. There are new touch sensors on eBay for round 20 EUR
Sent from my XT1580 Hammer using Tapatalk
This sounds way to familiar. I had exactly the same issue it took me 5 weeks to get it resolved. Because everything went so ****ty and I was able to deliver proof they send a wileyfox swift 2+ as replacement. Luckily their system is so broken a month later I got my storm back repaired to. Then it broke again because I was stupid. A few months after I send the device and tried to contact their support but got ignored every time I decided to post about it on Facebook on the fb page from wileyfox in my country. They reached out to me and were really helpful at first and almost send me a wileyfox 2X but then found out I was not supposed to have my storm repaired and after some **** they decided to send me a new storm. And that was the end of the story. Now I'm trying to flash a custom ROM on my storm but this device is just **** and doing a lot of stuff that shouldn't happen as far as I know. So if someone knows a lot about flashing custom ROM's and rooting a wileyfox storm and has time to help me please contact me
Ps: I have a lot of amusing screenshots of support they once ignored me for 2 weeks and then send me an email that said "sorry for the delay I was on vacation"
Hey folks, after the glass over my S7A camera mysteriously broke within the first month I came to find out that this is a fairly common occurrence for this phone and many owners have had the same problem. Both AT$T and Samsung refused to fix what appears to be a manufacturing defect. I have been in touch with a law firm that is preparing a class-action lawsuit on behalf of S7 and S7A owners whose back glass has shattered through no fault of their own and either paid to have it repaired or been refused repair by Samsung. You can contact attorney Joel Garrido at:
[email protected]
You can also go to their website and fill out the info form online.
http://www.krcomplexlit.com/currentcases/samsung-galaxy-s7-shattering-camera-lens-covering/
There are way too many of us with this problem for it to be simple owner error.
Update: after I posted this here, in several other phone forums and on Samsung's own forum I got a call from someone at Samsung. They wanted me to send the phone in for a free repair and a pre-paid mailer showed up the following day. I doubt they will do this for everyone affected, so you may still want to contact the lawyer anyway. Should have it back by Monday. Will report back.

No joy! I got an e-mail from Samsung on Monday saying the part to fix it was not in stock and that it had to be ordered. No idea when it would arrive or how much longer they would have my phone. Ridiculous. Why have me send it in knowing what needed to be fixed and not having the part on hand? I will never buy another Samsung product again. Most horrible customer service I have ever seen.:crying:

If you grow impatient waiting, it is an easy fix to do yourself. I did it on my AT&T S7 the other day. Bought the part off eBay, they have all OEM carrier variations. http://www.ebay.com/itm/252605291755
Then followed this guide here: https://youtu.be/du1OYeEIX_E The camera glass is optional but only costs $5 for OEM replacement.
Whole thing cost me $17 (I already had the tools), and now looks factory. I understand that's not the reason for your post, but if you get tired of waiting for Samsung it's an option. Good luck with the lawsuit!

S7 Active does indeed have a glass over the camera lens.
As for fixing it yourself, that would not maintain the factory water-resistance.
Got an e-mail on Friday. My phone should be back on Tuesday. We'll see.
Finally got my phone back last Friday, more than 2 weeks since I sent it in. After assuring me they did not need to access the phone (I locked it) they sent it back completely wiped clean. Had to go through the very tedious and time-consuming process of reinstalling all my apps and settings, but lost some things I can never get back. Good thing I have my contacts and emails synced through MS Exchange. Paid apps are a pain to reinstall, though. This made me notice a failing of Google's supposed backup/restore service. It tells you that any app that is backed up will have its data/settings restored upon reinstallation of that app. I have never seen this work. Ever.
In any case, they not only fixed the back glass, but replaced the digitizer screen, as well. Not sure why since there was no issue with it, but they discarded my tempered glass screen protector in the process. At least they didn't send me a refurbished phone (checked the IMEI). Hopefully, the replacement glass will not suffer the same mysterious failure.
The phone immediately updated to Nougat. Among the many changes noticed is that I can no longer use any of the custom wallpapers I had. I install them, but cannot find them when I try to change wallpapers. The Samsung "Themes" appears to be all I can choose from.
sorry, but it states very clearly, in the email you would of got, that it will most likely be wiped, and to make sure EVERYTHING is backed before sending in,
how else will they make sure all is fixed, and put back together.... plus just makes sense ! as its possible it could of gotton lost or damaged along the way too !
the best app to back everything up, is SmartSwitch... will back up apps, screen layout, test msgs everything .. and can be exported to memory card etc too ..
is good everythings been fixed properly, gives me hope when i send mine in ... just be glad you got a free server (postage wise) ive gotta pay for mine to the US and back....
and yes Nougat is alot different, and uses a different set of themes/icons, which are not backwards compatible...
mainly cause alot has changed, but its definitely for the better in the long run much smoother, with some how even better battery life again !!

That informative e-mail you speak of came 2 days after the pre-paid mailer and 1 day after the postman picked up my phone. The 2 people I spoke with directly by phone assured me that they had no reason to wipe the phone since it was just a hardware repair. They obviously have people either lying or completely inept working the phones.
2 people AT Samsung said that ! think there must of been some kinda communication failure there ! ... and also odd you didnt get postage and handling info with postage label to !
of course they gonna want to test it etc ! "completely inept working the phone" is a bit strong dont ya think! .. they completely fixed your phone! ....
and even still, didnt you want to backup up the phone, just by the mere fact that it was out of your control, so thus at a MUCH higher risk of loss, breakage, or theft ? ..
or just a good point to make a backup anyhow !
anyhows... good phones all sorted now .. !
I had the phone locked. Good to know that didn't stop them.
