Hi! I have been playing around with bootanimations and they suddenly don't work anymore. I think it has something to do with the /system/bin/bootanimation file but I've replaced it and it still doesn't work. I've tried tons of resolutions, mp4 and png, nothing happens. I could clean flash LOS again but not atm. If you can help me, that'll be great! Thank you in advance

In /system/bin, bootanimation is not correct thing for replacement. You need a zip file of 1080p and place it in /system/media.

i've clean-flashed los again, the original boot animation works but just that. any of the modifications nor re-compressing the file work. I know /system/media is the path, that's where I throw the bootanimation.zip.

But in 1st post you said, you are putting zip in /system/bin.
Anyway, try flashable zip, many available on XDA. Find and try flashing. Also see what permissions should be set if you put manually.

So I pretty much have the custom boot animations figured out... It seems to work whether I put bootanimation.zip in /data/local or /system/media no problem... but the one thing I can't figure out is how to get a sound to play. I've tried every combination I can think of... boot.mp3 in the zip file, android_audio.mp3 in the zip file... tried the zip without the mp3, just placing the mp3 in the same directory as the zip (and also tried both names that way, in both directories stated above).
Is there something I'm supposed to add to the desc.txt file? What am I missing?? The only info I can find for the Eris is just "put a boot.mp3 in the zip file" which is just not working...
I am almost ready to explode...
Any help?? It would be much appreciated!
You cannot use sound using the bootscreen.zip. You have to use the old method. Search for Stock bootscreen w sounds, In the Eris dev forum.

You could check out my rom. It has the nexus boot screen with the mac bong sound.
Alright, I searched a bit more and had no luck with the .xml (stock) method... It just simply doesn't acknowledge it. It works fine using the bootanimation.zip method (well, no sound of course), in either location as stated above, but if I remove/rename them and try the /system/media/bootscreen location with .xml, .gif, and .mp3 files, it completely ignores them. I copied the exact file structure from the CookieRom and got nothing.
Is there a setting somewhere that I am missing? Like maybe some sort of switch that says "LOOK HERE FOR BOOT ANIMATION" or something?
I've even tried taking the /system/bin/bootanimation file from Cookie and replacing mine with it, but then it doesn't even run.
There has to be something simple I'm missing and I just have no idea what it is...
FYI I'm using a non-Sense ROM if that makes any difference...
Anybody??
Anyone...? Bueller...?
i am just a puzzled about this. If you get it figured out.... lets us know!
You need to take the boot animation from a rom like cookie rom or damaged tazz, that have sound enabled. It usually in in the system/bin folder. Put in into the rom of your choice and then flash the bootanimation.zip file and it should work. That's what I did and it worked for me...DROID

First time poster here. I am working on a boot animation for the Droid X that features a clip from the 1986 animated movie of Optimus Prime blasting some Decepticons before his battle with Megatron.
Just have to fix a few things before I release it for download. I am trying to add audio but am having a problem. I have tried everything I can think of. Named the file boot.mp3 boot.ogg (changed format of course) I have placed the file in the /system/media/audio/ and /system/media/ directories.
I have edited the build.prop file. When UI do that i get like 1 second of audio after the animation is done and it brings up the lock screen.
I have looked everywhere online. there doesnt seem to be any easy solution or for that matter, any solution. I was hoping someone out there can help. I have a pretty cool boot animation I am working on.
I would like to show it to you.... but I guess my account has to be approved.

boot sound is found in /data/local directory as a mp3 file, try there
also to get ur boot sound working properly, you have to edit desc.txt in the bootanimation.zip file according to all your specification of your bootanimation, good luck on this.

I too am looking for a way to add a sound. You wouldnt happen to have a link to a post to look towards for editing the desc.txt to allow sounds would you?
Hello, does anyone know where to find MIUI Multilingual's bootanimation and bootaudio, and the .xml file so i can edit them?
In system/media there is bootanimation.zip and bootaudio.mp3. If you want to edit the bootanimation look at desc.txt.
Thank you, however it seems that my phone still uses the IDEOS logo as bootanimation, and that one is located in "pink-screen" mode, is it okay to delete it?
You mean the splashscreen? I believe that is located in the kernel, and not easy to edit.

Well, when i boot, it doesn't use the MIUI bootanimation, it still uses stock Ideos animation, and i think that one is located in pinkscreen-mode.
Try placing the bootanimation.zip in /data/local on your phone with root explorer. Then reboot, it should work

Hmm, it didn't work, and i even tried replacing the bootanimation.zip in cust/Dialect/SE/media (which is where i go when i go into pinkscreen-mode) with the MIUI one, still nothing.
Sorry, I see no reason why it won't work.. You can try to delete the whole cust folder (in pink screen), it that don't work preform a full wipe.
What ROM version are you talking about? If latest, then you should pay more attention to rom changelog. retart said there, that he turned off bootanimation for faster boot.

be careful messing with these files

Thank you!
I found the debug.hw.bootanimation set to 1, changed it to 0, and BAM!
Bootanimation+ audio.
My only concern now is the splashscreen and that the bootaudio is loud/bad quality
Could anyone dump the stock unmodified /system/media/audio folder for me?
My sounds got messed up after trying to add my previous ogg files and I'm trying to restore it and see what I did wrong to mess this up.
I was hoping to get the list of all the original sounds and maybe someone could upload them in a zip file here.
Thanks!

Ty Sir!
I derped with my sounds too. Thanks for putting this up!
Where you able to fix yours?? Still running into the same issue with them not working even when I copy the ogg files to the correct folder.
They copy fine and show in sound settings but they won't play but a default chime

The files copied, and I'm still tinkering with permissions that possibly need to be aligned, but nothing plays on the device. File sizes match up with what I saw previously, but Google Play returns with "Couldn't play the track you requested."
Same here... Tried to give it full perm but that didn't work.
Interestingly the same files will play perfectly if moved to another folder...
I'm really hoping not to have to wipe!!!

I got it! Not only is it the file permissions, but the folder permissions have to be correct too. I found the audio folder needs drwxr-xr-x, the alarms, notifications, ringtones, ui need drwxr-xr-x, and then the sounds themselves need -rw-r--r--. It's one by one, but I've successfully gotten lock, unlock and effect tick under the UI folder working again.
Good luck!
U tha man!!!!!
That did the trick.. Actually only needed to change permissions on files.. Folders were still setup fine.
I ended up ssh into the device and chmod 644 * under each folder after enabling to on the system folder.
2min fix!!
Alright, here goes...
I have flashed a few zips that supposedly are supposed to give your Samsung device bootanimation.zip functionality, and have also replaced the .qmg files in /data/media and in /system/media. I have made sure that the permissions are RW R R, and have deleted the dalvik cache. I have used several apps to try and apply custom boot animations, but none have worked. I have tried using flashable .zip archives in FlashFire to install ones, but no cigarette ( )
What am I doing wrong? I have done several searches and have poured through numerous articles, but have found no working tutorials for my Galaxy S8. (My device is rooted with SamPWND.)
Instead of system/media try system/omc/(your variant)/res/media

I put my custom animations there now, and when I hit restart it gives me a black screen with the navigation bar for a while, and then shows the LS.
Did you try switching both system/media and the other directory and remember to change permissions

I fully changed all the permissions to RW-R-R, I forgot to do that. What do you mean by switching system/media and the other directory? I have all the .qmgs pasted in both places.
Is it working now?

No it is not still, unfortunately. Idk what I am doing wrong...
Here to chime in, I have been trying to change the boot animation for a while now, by only changing the .qmg files in system\media. With no success. Im happy to say that you have allowed me to finally be able to change the boot animation with this other location. Thanks a lot!! Having the files I wanted on my sdcard, I just copied and pasted to both locations, both bootanimation and bootanimationloop. Changed the permissions to 644, reboot and profit!
